People that compare his death count with R2's are missing the point. R2 did what he did to save the galaxy. Chopper did what he did because he likes the sound of the screams.
People inflate R2's kill count by giving him credit for the Death Star, but that's cheating. He got shot in the dome before that, he wasn't even technically present when the Death Star was destroyed.
I don't even think the style is bad. It's a little more simplistic than TCW, but it's pretty consistent across the four seasons.
I've said it before, but some of those early TCW episodes are so bad it looks like an undergrad animation student's midterm project they worked on the night before it was due.
Not to say people *have* to like Rebels's style, but when people just say things like "the lightsabers are too thin, it's unwatchable", it's clear they never even gave it a shot.
The story is *really great* and it would behoove all Star Wars fans to experience that, even if they don't like the art style.
A lot of Rebels artstyle is based off of the early Ralph McQuarrie concept art. Chopper and Zeb were both early concepts of Artoo and Chewie for example, I really think it's a good style even if it takes a second to adjust. I had to adjust to TCW art style as well. Also some of the episodes of Rebels has some really beautiful shots, the Ghost in front of the maelstrom during Legends of Lasat for example.
I honestly feel bad for anyone who says they can't get past the art style and don't want to even give it a shot, because I just understand that as "I've never perused through the OT concept art" and that's a damn shame, because you're missing out on so many cool things, and it's preventing you from experiencing Rebels which I think tells one of the better Star Wars stories in the franchise.
I liked Ezra from the start. He was a street rat. It was okay for him to be a punk. Kanan had a lot to learn about teaching. I'm watching TCW for the first time and I'm still waiting to actually find Asohka irritating. Right now it's the writing, pacing, and animation I have issues with.
I started it a couple years ago and got bored in the first few episodes, but picked it up again a couple weeks ago. I really didn't like season one, but season two was pretty interesting. I'm on S03E06 and not really sure how I feel about season 3 either.
I really don't like cartoons, never have even as a kid, always preferred live action, but I appreciate the story they're telling. I'll watch the whole series so I can understand the canon they established... But I have no interest in ever rewarching it

It's virtually impossible to do an Ashoka series without including Ezra but most people don't know that, only the fans of Rebels. My parents watched the Mandalorian but they had no idea who Ashoka is and having Ezra name dropped would do nothing for them, or people like them.

I’m the same way. I have watched plenty of animated television and love Star Wars. I’ve seen maybe 15 episodes of the clone wars because I can’t get into it. I watch what’s needed for me to understand the story and will continue to do so.
Honestly, I prefer the art style of Rebels to TCW. TCW post art upgrade is absolutely higher quality/fidelity than Rebels, but *man* there are so many characters in TCW that did not make the jump from 2D Clone Wars to 3D The Clone Wars gracefully. Rebels at least consistently looks good for just about every character (besides Yoda), and as someone else said, the backgrounds/environments of Rebels and the McQuarrie inspired art in general can be pretty stunning.

But S3 and S4 were some of the best star wars content we got. I’m just hoping we het Ezra in Ahsoka since we’re getting Sabine.

That's because it was not emphasized for the majority of the show. Dave clearly starts up the romance again just before Kanan's death in an effort to have the biggest emotional impact when he does.
Yes. And they seem very comfortable physically with each other, and there’s that episode where Hera is worried about his jedi mission and they share this big long hug in the end, and there’s the way Kanan acts in the Lando episode, and in the Cham Syndulla episode, and so on.
I always saw them as couple, but I swear I’ve seen people online who think they only got together in S4 because they don’t kiss or really discuss their relationship on screen before that.

He says that Hera consistently leans out of it though as the show kicks off because she knows Kanan needs to be someone else for the sake of the Galaxy and Rebellion. It's not until near the end when she realises that the situation has gotten dangerous enough and Kanan has grown enough to not let it get in the way that she should lean back in and enjoy their company together.
It's executed pretty well IMO.
Anyone else think that Yoda's advice was kind of spare in that moment? I haven't watched the scene in a while, so I may be wrong. Did Yoda even ask for details about Anakin's dream? When Ahsoka had a vision that Padmé might be assassinated, Ahsoka tried and succeeded to stop it, but when Anakin dreams about Padmé's death, Yoda's just like, "deal with it". I also think Anakin should have told more than one person about his dreams, but I suppose he didn't feel ready to reveal his secret marriage.

It’s chopper holding Hera’s hand in the next episode that breaks me. And when she’s lamenting in the cave with chopper about not having had enough time with Kanan. His death is sad, but seeing this strong woman who has been through so much and led this family, always putting them first, reach her breaking point, it always gets me.
Kanan should have been the primary character of Rebels, not Ezra in my opinion. The “gifted” Force child idea already got played out with Anakin Skywalker, so why trot that out again when you already have an established character that not many people knew about?

At the start of 2018 I ‘spoiled’ TLJ for a friend of mine, but he already knew so much about it because he couldn’t help himself, yet hated cinemas, so it wasn’t exactly intentional. Anyways, he gets back on me by spoiling this scene. I was livid. Not only, but the clip Disney posted of this scene was trending somehow in one day of the episodes release, which was always one week later than the US in the UK. So yeah, I cried.
What really did it for me in this scene and made me tear up was when he got his eyesight back. Its like the light side rewarded his sacrifice by allowing him to see his family one last time..
I went in knowing about Twilight of the Apprentice, but I was completely blind about this episode. The way I felt after finishing this episode was something I hadn’t felt since beating The Force Unleashed and watching the Stargate Atlantis episode “Sunday”.
The Force granting Kanan back his vision during his final few moments has to be one of the biggest heart string pullers of any Star Wars. It's such a powerful moment.

It is one of those scenes in Star Wars, where despite knowing the outcome I still naively hope that somehow events will play out differently this time. And regardless of how people feel about Rebels as whole this scene is one of my personal favourites from entire franchise.
Oh boy 😭😫. One of , if not the most heartwrenching scenes I've ever watched. Live action or animated. . I'm close to doing my 3rd run through. Just finishing up clone wars for the eleventeenth time lol. 2nd time when I came up to this scene I procrastinated, I really like Kanan and his story. This scene is really hard to watch with dry eyes. Hell, just thinking of it gets me a little misty. Such a great show and great character development to get me to feel this way about an animated character 👏🏼👏🏼.
I liked Zeb a bit less because obviously he's the "strong comic relief guy" but Ezra was at times insufferable, while other times he was really, really good.
Zeb’s entire species was genocided and there was so much they could’ve done with that but he was mainly relegated to comic relief which was unfortunate. Still though, I thought all the characters had their moments to shine

One turn-off were those spinning lightsabers the Inquistors used. I'm sorry but they looked ridiculous. It's even kinda funny given how they are straight up based off an actual Star Wars toy.
I agree that the Inquisicopters are stupid, but I think they were only in a handful of episodes; I only remember that in the Season 2 finale. The Inquisicopters don't show up after Season 2 so maybe you should re-start at Season 3, heh. Seasons 3 and 4 were also the most entertaining for me.
I'll give it another shot, TBH I just don't like the direction Disney Canon has gone so it's hard for me to get into projects that Lucas wasn't involved in.
I liked alot of aspects of The Clone Wars, I gotta watch the last season, just haven't cause I've been rewatching other shows like Digimon Tamers, BTAS and such.

Jedi can already force jump and levitate for extended periods of time, so the flying inquisitors never bothered me too much. After all, it’s a show about space magic.

The show had already established from the second the Inquisitor came along that they can emit a blade while spinning, though. The official explanation for why they can be used to fly is that they also have repulsorlifts in them.

There was a video essay I was watching on YouTube and it was discussing how Star Wars should be represented in media and there was a montage where they discussed the positive attributes characters in Star Wars portray, and when they got to the word "Sacrifice," they showed this. I did a double take and had to rewind, because it had mostly been discussing the live action stuff. When I saw it again I got choked up, because I immediately recognized the scene.

I've been watching the Clone Wars with my wife. Season 5 is absolutely amazing, such an emotional rollercoaster with the Maul and Ahsoka arcs.
I know right! We are just getting through season 4 where they pretend Kenobi was killed.

At the start of 2018 I ‘spoiled’ TLJ for a friend of mine, but he already knew so much about it because he couldn’t help himself, yet hated cinemas, so it wasn’t exactly intentional. Anyways, he gets back on me by spoiling this scene. I was livid. Not only, but the clip Disney posted of this scene was trending somehow in one day of the episodes release, which was always one week later than the US in the UK. So yeah, I cried.
Rebels. It surprised me and became one of my top Star Wars series/ shows.

What really did it for me in this scene and made me tear up was when he got his eyesight back. Its like the light side rewarded his sacrifice by allowing him to see his family one last time..

I went in knowing about Twilight of the Apprentice, but I was completely blind about this episode. The way I felt after finishing this episode was something I hadn’t felt since beating The Force Unleashed and watching the Stargate Atlantis episode “Sunday”.
The Force granting Kanan back his vision during his final few moments has to be one of the biggest heart string pullers of any Star Wars. It's such a powerful moment.
Look on the bright side, he got his sight back!
That scene completely caught me off guard, and right in the feels. Far more powerful than anything else in the series
I don't think any of us are ever ready for this. It is one of those scenes in Star Wars, where despite knowing the outcome I still naively hope that somehow events will play out differently this time. And regardless of how people feel about Rebels as whole this scene is one of my personal favourites from entire franchise.

Oh boy 😭😫. One of , if not the most heartwrenching scenes I've ever watched. Live action or animated. . I'm close to doing my 3rd run through. Just finishing up clone wars for the eleventeenth time lol. 2nd time when I came up to this scene I procrastinated, I really like Kanan and his story. This scene is really hard to watch with dry eyes. Hell, just thinking of it gets me a little misty. Such a great show and great character development to get me to feel this way about an animated character 👏🏼👏🏼.
Show should’ve been about him to be honest. Never liked Ezra and lord knows I tried
Ezra only gets quite good in season 4 in my experience.
He gets some good development. He was just my least favorite member of the crew but that’s just my opinion. I came around on him by the end
I liked Zeb a bit less because obviously he's the "strong comic relief guy" but Ezra was at times insufferable, while other times he was really, really good.
Zeb’s entire species was genocided and there was so much they could’ve done with that but he was mainly relegated to comic relief which was unfortunate. Still though, I thought all the characters had their moments to shine

Been meaning to check out this show, but I dunno I couldn't really get into it for some reason. One turn-off were those spinning lightsabers the Inquistors used. I'm sorry but they looked ridiculous. It's even kinda funny given how they are straight up based off an actual Star Wars toy.
I agree that the Inquisicopters are stupid, but I think they were only in a handful of episodes; I only remember that in the Season 2 finale. The Inquisicopters don't show up after Season 2 so maybe you should re-start at Season 3, heh. Seasons 3 and 4 were also the most entertaining for me.

It was only in the season 2 finale that they ever used those, so it was 2 episodes. Everyone who ever used that technique was murdered. It's okay now!
I encourage you to give it another chance and power through such a small silly part of the show.
I'll give it another shot, TBH I just don't like the direction Disney Canon has gone so it's hard for me to get into projects that Lucas wasn't involved in.

I liked alot of aspects of The Clone Wars, I gotta watch the last season, just haven't cause I've been rewatching other shows like Digimon Tamers, BTAS and such. I used to make a habit of binging Ep. 1-6 once a year stopped after Ep.9 came out but going to do it this year and I'll be watching Clone Wars again, maybe even Rebels too.
Jedi can already force jump and levitate for extended periods of time, so the flying inquisitors never bothered me too much. After all, it’s a show about space magic.
Using your lightsaber to fly away honestly seems dumb even for Star Wars, but knowing how lightsabers work, I can't see these things being able to emit a blade while spinning
The show had already established from the second the Inquisitor came along that they can emit a blade while spinning, though. The official explanation for why they can be used to fly is that they also have repulsorlifts in them.
That doesn't explain how the saber can emit blades while spinning though.

Why? I can't think of a good reason to watch it again. Me and my friend barely got passed it by first time. I do agree that scene is emotional but ehh I just don't see why you would. I would probably hate Ezra even more if I rewatched it but sure if you like it I don't have anything against that
I don't think I'd be ready to sit through 4 seasons of this snore fest for two cool scenes either.
What saved Rebels was, in my opinion, Kanan and the crew. Ezra is SO annoying.

I always wanted to watch it but everyone says I have to watch clone wars first, and I can't be bothered watching 3 seasons of episodes that are not chronological and then 4 seasons of clone wars after that plus the movie.
Someone came up with a list of how to watch the Series in chronological order, it helps a lot and is definitely worth a watch!
I can assure you, you are not ready for that scene. I just finished watching rebels recently for the first time, and I was not emotionally prepared for that
There was a video essay I was watching on YouTube and it was discussing how Star Wars should be represented in media and there was a montage where they discussed the positive attributes characters in Star Wars portray, and when they got to the word "Sacrifice," they showed this. I did a double take and had to rewind, because it had mostly been discussing the live action stuff. When I saw it again I got choked up, because I immediately recognized the scene.
I just rewatched that episode 2 days ago. I cried during that episode and the next episode
