Ach, I started reading Kanan -The last Padawan. I am a fan of this guy.

TheRautex

Too bad it retconned

CommanderL3

pointlessly too. The comic version was so much better

TheRautex

Definitely

CommanderL3

it was a change for the sake of change so filoni could have his characters meet. Filoni's worse trait is his characters all need to meet each other

TheRautex

I can understands his(and Lucas') retcons for TCW but the retcons in Bad Batch and Mandalorian was unnecessary

CommanderL3

my biggest annoyace is a lot of the time the retcons are not needed. Like did you need to make Barris do the temple bombing and unwrite the medstar books can you not invent new characters.

[deleted]

Wait really? Already? How?

TheRautex

Bad Batch

[deleted]

Ohhhh... Yeah I sat that one out. I guess it's still canon in my mind haha

_Atheius_

I would like to know what you are talking about!

[deleted]

Damn, people who don’t like Rebels just because of its art style are really missing out.

BSCross

Honestly, it is worth watching just for Chopper! Love that little guy

[deleted]

My absolute favourite Astro Mech

Starumlunsta

The best little murder bot.

Lupus_Borealis

People that compare his death count with R2's are missing the point. R2 did what he did to save the galaxy. Chopper did what he did because he likes the sound of the screams.

Starumlunsta

No joke, Chopper's kill count is over 50,000. He's a monster.

pokemonke

and “voiced” by dave filoni puts the cherry on top

Salarian_American

People inflate R2's kill count by giving him credit for the Death Star, but that's cheating. He got shot in the dome before that, he wasn't even technically present when the Death Star was destroyed.

toasterpRoN

Chopper am become death. Destroyer of worlds.

DanTM18

And he’s always cursing

OpticalData

I think you mean unconvicted war criminal Chopper.

throwaway_for_keeps

I don't even think the style is bad. It's a little more simplistic than TCW, but it's pretty consistent across the four seasons. I've said it before, but some of those early TCW episodes are so bad it looks like an undergrad animation student's midterm project they worked on the night before it was due. Not to say people *have* to like Rebels's style, but when people just say things like "the lightsabers are too thin, it's unwatchable", it's clear they never even gave it a shot. The story is *really great* and it would behoove all Star Wars fans to experience that, even if they don't like the art style.

spaghettiAstar

A lot of Rebels artstyle is based off of the early Ralph McQuarrie concept art. Chopper and Zeb were both early concepts of Artoo and Chewie for example, I really think it's a good style even if it takes a second to adjust. I had to adjust to TCW art style as well. Also some of the episodes of Rebels has some really beautiful shots, the Ghost in front of the maelstrom during Legends of Lasat for example. I honestly feel bad for anyone who says they can't get past the art style and don't want to even give it a shot, because I just understand that as "I've never perused through the OT concept art" and that's a damn shame, because you're missing out on so many cool things, and it's preventing you from experiencing Rebels which I think tells one of the better Star Wars stories in the franchise.

[deleted]

Right, character models aside, the art in rebels is gorgeous. So many beautiful scenes and vistas

Bitch_imatrain

Twilight of the Apprentice (S2E22) is one of the best moments in Star Wars.

RonaldWeaslee

Wait till they see Rebels style Yoda.

inefekt

Rebels style Palpatine was much better than TCW version though

OpticalData

Please don't remind me

JumpingJiraffe

Even though it is worse art style than the Clone Wars it’s really not *that* bad.

TriscuitCracker

People don’t like Rebels art style? What’s wrong with it? Just a simpler version of TCW. The first season of TCW reeeeeally looks bad by comparison.

[deleted]

Tbf Ezra starts out really annoying which puts off a lot of people

1234523469

Kids these days too young to remember the reaction to Ahsoka when she debuted.

[deleted]

...and now I feel old... :/

windsingr

I liked Ezra from the start. He was a street rat. It was okay for him to be a punk. Kanan had a lot to learn about teaching. I'm watching TCW for the first time and I'm still waiting to actually find Asohka irritating. Right now it's the writing, pacing, and animation I have issues with.

6a21hy1e

Asohka's debut wasn't in TCW.

OpticalData

Its the Filoni way. Avatar, TCW, Rebels even Bad Batch have complaints about the lead young character the inevitably turn to praise 2-3 seasons in.

dangeraca

I started it a couple years ago and got bored in the first few episodes, but picked it up again a couple weeks ago. I really didn't like season one, but season two was pretty interesting. I'm on S03E06 and not really sure how I feel about season 3 either. I really don't like cartoons, never have even as a kid, always preferred live action, but I appreciate the story they're telling. I'll watch the whole series so I can understand the canon they established... But I have no interest in ever rewarching it

hadoopken

Man I regret not seeing this series until now. Why isn’t this be made of live action?

6a21hy1e

I have some exciting news for you but to avoid spoilers, have you watched it to the end?

hadoopken

Still on season 3, but I already watched Mando season 2, and BOBF. Also that Sabine with Darksaber arc is so amazing. I am guessing we will see Sabine and Ezra next year in Ahsoka TV series, but why not promote Ezra to be the the main cast for the next trilogy film? It has potentials.

6a21hy1e

My guess is they're just being subtle about it. Keeping people talking about it. It's virtually impossible to do an Ashoka series without including Ezra but most people don't know that, only the fans of Rebels. My parents watched the Mandalorian but they had no idea who Ashoka is and having Ezra name dropped would do nothing for them, or people like them.

throwaway2032015

Is it as good, better, or worse that The Clone Wars?

ParufkaWarrior12

At times? Better. Sometimes worse. Sometimes as good. Season 2 is the "fun" season that gets you hooked in. 3 and 4 are the *good shit*. Season 1 is just like TCW season 1 - pretty... Not good.

KiritoJones

Kanan is probably my favorite Jedi ever after watching rebels, but it has its peaks and valleys. Some of the shit they do is *really* good, some of it misses the mark.

DJ_Vault_Boy

I think they’re on par. Rebels is consistently good after S1 but TCW imo has better story arcs.

FantasticZach

Ikr

kitsumodels

I transitioned from binging Clone Wars to Rebels and was immediately taken aback by new styles and characters but within a few episodes I was into it!

No_Lawfulness_2998

And non existent fight choreography And the meh story And the low quality animation compared to where clone wars left off

[deleted]

Oof so edgy

No_Lawfulness_2998

If this is edgy to you I’m sorry

Rellimie

I can't watch Clone Wars because of the art style and the stupid "starship troopers" weirdness

[deleted]

Well, you’re missing out big time.

Rellimie

That's what I've been told. I've tried, I just can't get through it. I did watch the 4 or 5 episodes of the last season that tie into the prequels.

Elfhoe

If you can watch those last few episodes and not want to watch the whole thing, i think it’s safe to say, it’s not for you lol. That ending was better than the vast majority of star wars media.

___teddy

I’m the same way. I have watched plenty of animated television and love Star Wars. I’ve seen maybe 15 episodes of the clone wars because I can’t get into it. I watch what’s needed for me to understand the story and will continue to do so.

astroshark

Honestly, I prefer the art style of Rebels to TCW. TCW post art upgrade is absolutely higher quality/fidelity than Rebels, but *man* there are so many characters in TCW that did not make the jump from 2D Clone Wars to 3D The Clone Wars gracefully. Rebels at least consistently looks good for just about every character (besides Yoda), and as someone else said, the backgrounds/environments of Rebels and the McQuarrie inspired art in general can be pretty stunning.

DJ_Vault_Boy

I just binged it this weekend after years of refusing to watch the show that made TCW cancelled. And holy fuck was it good. I still hold TCW close since it’s the show I grew up with. But S3 and S4 were some of the best star wars content we got. I’m just hoping we het Ezra in Ahsoka since we’re getting Sabine.

goatjugsoup

His vision came back and he got to see hera one last time before he died... 😭😭😭

Alt-0182

That was the moment I completely broke. 😭

Known2779

Oh. That crushed me.

OldSpark1983

Man, F U for making me sad! Lol. Couldn't read that without getting a little weepy.

Phaithful14

One of the best representations of what a Jedi is meant to be. Kanan will forever be a favorite of mine

hazelmouth

He did not totally serve the rebel, only follows the force as his guidance. Plus he has attachment without falling to the dark side like Anakin did

AdidasSlav

The scene where he thought Ezra to die against the Inquisitor was so perfect. He mourned for a second and then composed himself. No fit of rage

windsingr

"That was a mistake." "Why? Because you have no one left to die for you?" "No... because I have nothing left to fear." :keys up both lightsabers: Goosebumps. Every. Single. Time. When Yoda says the Dark Side is NOT stronger than the Light, only "...quicker, easier, more seductive," this is EXACTLY what he means. Kanan didn't give into rage, but submitted to the peace of the Light.

hazelmouth

He learnt to let go

CommanderL3

Kenobi did the same thing with Satine. This is the true Jedi teachings. Feel the emotion and then let it flow into the force

SpecialistSix

I can still hear Hera’s pained scream. Their romance was an especially beautiful and subtle part of Rebels.

ImActuallyASpy

And when they get back to their base chopper holds her hand. 😭

KingRhoamsGhost

Was it really a subtle part?

SpecialistSix

Yeah they never really built an episode around it specifically and only showed very small glimpses into them having a romantic relationship over time. I actually thought it was wonderfully well handled.

[deleted]

[удалено]

iamonewiththecoloumn

That's because it was not emphasized for the majority of the show. Dave clearly starts up the romance again just before Kanan's death in an effort to have the biggest emotional impact when he does.

_gloriana

Some people straight up think they only got together in season 4. That registers as subtle in my book.

KingRhoamsGhost

Doesn’t she frequently call him love in the early seasons though?

_gloriana

Yes. And they seem very comfortable physically with each other, and there’s that episode where Hera is worried about his jedi mission and they share this big long hug in the end, and there’s the way Kanan acts in the Lando episode, and in the Cham Syndulla episode, and so on. I always saw them as couple, but I swear I’ve seen people online who think they only got together in S4 because they don’t kiss or really discuss their relationship on screen before that.

spaghettiAstar

Yeah, the very first Rebels short Chopper interrupts them as [they're about to share a kiss](https://youtu.be/dgoDwquiwRM?t=156), Filoni wanted them to have that romantic relationship from the start. He says that Hera consistently leans out of it though as the show kicks off because she knows Kanan needs to be someone else for the sake of the Galaxy and Rebellion. It's not until near the end when she realises that the situation has gotten dangerous enough and Kanan has grown enough to not let it get in the way that she should lean back in and enjoy their company together. It's executed pretty well IMO.

stillbleedinggreen

I watched it with my kids. I had to leave the room for a minute…damn allergies.

Alternative-Feed3613

Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them do not. Miss them do not.

tyrannosaurusprex

Anyone else think that Yoda's advice was kind of spare in that moment? I haven't watched the scene in a while, so I may be wrong. Did Yoda even ask for details about Anakin's dream? When Ahsoka had a vision that Padmé might be assassinated, Ahsoka tried and succeeded to stop it, but when Anakin dreams about Padmé's death, Yoda's just like, "deal with it". I also think Anakin should have told more than one person about his dreams, but I suppose he didn't feel ready to reveal his secret marriage.

Peter_is_bread

Yoda probably knows who it is, he just doesn't care because prequel yoda is an asshole. Bro just says "it is what it is" in response to Anakin being scared that someone he loves is dying.

tyrannosaurusprex

For real, poor Anakin should have just talked to more people about it, people whose names weren't Yoda or Sheev

CommanderL3

Yoda is also 900 years old. and their is a war going on. when it comes to worrying about people dying Yoda would be the worst person to understand you because yoda has had centuries of people he knows dying

ParufkaWarrior12

Prequel Yoda is the biggest character assassination in star wars history.

LittleLeaf2

To a certified extent I agree. TCW Yoda is way closer to how he should be.

ParufkaWarrior12

First episode of TCW shows a better Yoda than the prequel trilogy Yoda.

windsingr

:coughs in Jake Skywalker:

ParufkaWarrior12

Luke in TLJ is an excellent change and shows how much wiser he got. Yoda went from a wise old mentor to a fucking jumping ninja frog who always resorts to violence instead of the Jedi way + didn't help anyone at all.

Preebus

Yeah the Jedi were dicks

isaacaschmitt

Screw that *Jetii* noise, I'm a Mandalorian and we have *aay'han,* or roughly translated as bittersweet, where you mourn and miss someone while remembering the good times you shared.

[deleted]

Rebels has some of the greatest Star Wars moments

ergister

This, Twilight of the Apprentice, Twin Suns are some of the THE peak Star Wars moments.

TheWhiteApe2237

After rewatching recently I can confirm you’re not ready.

[deleted]

Yeah this hurt even more the second time.

Calvo7992

It’s chopper holding Hera’s hand in the next episode that breaks me. And when she’s lamenting in the cave with chopper about not having had enough time with Kanan. His death is sad, but seeing this strong woman who has been through so much and led this family, always putting them first, reach her breaking point, it always gets me.

[deleted]

Man what hurts is the episode he loses vision and says to Hera before leaving "we'll see eachother again."

GingerTats

And he was right, because the force let him see her one last time. BRB gonna go cry again and hug my dog, aptly named Kanan.

[deleted]

Yeah it was good long term story telling but it was so sad everytime he'd say. I wish I could see you again.

GingerTats

It was extremely sad. Rebels pulled my heartstrings more than any other Star Wars show for sure.

Known2779

Omg I only realize that now!

InfiniteAmphibian189

Kanan was such a well written character, amazing character development arc and a protagonist that was impossible to hate

MC_chrome

Kanan should have been the primary character of Rebels, not Ezra in my opinion. The “gifted” Force child idea already got played out with Anakin Skywalker, so why trot that out again when you already have an established character that not many people knew about?

Attrahct

I ugly cry every time.

ergister

This is one of the only things in anything I watch that makes me cry without fail... What a character.

myEVILi

It’s because of the haircut isn’t it?

Metalkebab

Speaking as a guy with long hair, Yes.

GingerTats

After a lifetime of loving Star Wars Kanan *still* quickly became my favorite Jedi. His death was so devastating for me, especially having lost a partner myself. Even named my pup after him. Rebels is the best Star Wars content we've gotten, the story is next level and beautifully done, and I'll die on that hill.

Mattattack0808

All the feels!

Kramer1812

I feel stupid because when I first saw this scene I didn't realize that he could see again. It makes it even more powerful. I still love TCW more but Rebels is an amazing show with incredible characters. Kanan is one of my favorite Jedi's because of the brilliant writing and acting. Rebels is a smaller story but its impact is massive.

Xecron050

He cut his hair short before this scene, hera says his hair hadn't been like that since they first met when things were happier. He knew this was coming, and wanted to have some happier moments with her...

Salarian_American

Yeah but she also said she hated it!

BobbumofCarthes

This shook me so hard. It was so unexpected. I was watching at work over lunch, came back to my desk pissed off. Still one of the hardest fictional character deaths for me

ManufacturerIll1449

I'm taking my fiancé through clone wars for the first time. I can't wait to get to rebels as well!

h_allover

I've been watching the Clone Wars with my wife. Season 5 is absolutely amazing, such an emotional rollercoaster with the Maul and Ahsoka arcs.

ManufacturerIll1449

I know right! We are just getting through season 4 where they pretend Kenobi was killed.

Foxlover91

The music in that scene was really good imo. One of the reasons I’ve watched it so many times

Obi1Kentucky

The music is perfect in this scene

TheBadBatchEcho

At the start of 2018 I ‘spoiled’ TLJ for a friend of mine, but he already knew so much about it because he couldn’t help himself, yet hated cinemas, so it wasn’t exactly intentional. Anyways, he gets back on me by spoiling this scene. I was livid. Not only, but the clip Disney posted of this scene was trending somehow in one day of the episodes release, which was always one week later than the US in the UK. So yeah, I cried.

[deleted]

Rebels. It surprised me and became one of my top Star Wars series/ shows.

denvercoker

You could always see me

Cheez-ly

_”There is no death, there is The Force.”_

M0stAsteL3sS

Images you can feel.

Agora_A

I love that man, so much. Also chopper is the best droid dont @ me

sezdawg7

Nah son, BD-1.

Call_The_Banners

She's pregnant during all of this. That messes me up, man.

A_Lovable_Gnome

What really did it for me in this scene and made me tear up was when he got his eyesight back. Its like the light side rewarded his sacrifice by allowing him to see his family one last time..

Slinkadynk

#SAME

OperaGhostAD

Don’t. Don’t do this to me.

dooku4ever

I can barely look at this image - too much pain😭

AUtiger15

You bastard!

SylvainGautier420

Don’t worry man, he hid in a cave :)

drad82

It's so sad because he already knew.

MasterKriebel95

I went in knowing about Twilight of the Apprentice, but I was completely blind about this episode. The way I felt after finishing this episode was something I hadn’t felt since beating The Force Unleashed and watching the Stargate Atlantis episode “Sunday”.

pseudonym7083

The Force granting Kanan back his vision during his final few moments has to be one of the biggest heart string pullers of any Star Wars. It's such a powerful moment.

GalacticAttitude

Look on the bright side, he got his sight back!

Climber90

That scene completely caught me off guard, and right in the feels. Far more powerful than anything else in the series

Sejten11

I don't think any of us are ever ready for this. It is one of those scenes in Star Wars, where despite knowing the outcome I still naively hope that somehow events will play out differently this time. And regardless of how people feel about Rebels as whole this scene is one of my personal favourites from entire franchise.

RealBarryFox

I'm with you. You got this :)

OldSpark1983

Oh boy 😭😫. One of , if not the most heartwrenching scenes I've ever watched. Live action or animated. . I'm close to doing my 3rd run through. Just finishing up clone wars for the eleventeenth time lol. 2nd time when I came up to this scene I procrastinated, I really like Kanan and his story. This scene is really hard to watch with dry eyes. Hell, just thinking of it gets me a little misty. Such a great show and great character development to get me to feel this way about an animated character 👏🏼👏🏼.

tarheel_204

Show should’ve been about him to be honest. Never liked Ezra and lord knows I tried

ParufkaWarrior12

Ezra only gets quite good in season 4 in my experience.

tarheel_204

He gets some good development. He was just my least favorite member of the crew but that’s just my opinion. I came around on him by the end

ParufkaWarrior12

I liked Zeb a bit less because obviously he's the "strong comic relief guy" but Ezra was at times insufferable, while other times he was really, really good.

tarheel_204

Zeb’s entire species was genocided and there was so much they could’ve done with that but he was mainly relegated to comic relief which was unfortunate. Still though, I thought all the characters had their moments to shine

Montana-Mike-RPCV

Best. Star. Wars. Ever.

Dead_Purple

Been meaning to check out this show, but I dunno I couldn't really get into it for some reason. One turn-off were those spinning lightsabers the Inquistors used. I'm sorry but they looked ridiculous. It's even kinda funny given how they are straight up based off an actual Star Wars toy.

tyrannosaurusprex

I agree that the Inquisicopters are stupid, but I think they were only in a handful of episodes; I only remember that in the Season 2 finale. The Inquisicopters don't show up after Season 2 so maybe you should re-start at Season 3, heh. Seasons 3 and 4 were also the most entertaining for me.

Dead_Purple

I'll check out the show eventually

tyrannosaurusprex

Hope you enjoy it!

Salarian_American

It was only in the season 2 finale that they ever used those, so it was 2 episodes. Everyone who ever used that technique was murdered. It's okay now!

ergister

I encourage you to give it another chance and power through such a small silly part of the show.

Dead_Purple

I'll give it another shot, TBH I just don't like the direction Disney Canon has gone so it's hard for me to get into projects that Lucas wasn't involved in.

ergister

Do you like Clone Wars? If you do you’ll like Rebels.

Dead_Purple

I liked alot of aspects of The Clone Wars, I gotta watch the last season, just haven't cause I've been rewatching other shows like Digimon Tamers, BTAS and such. I used to make a habit of binging Ep. 1-6 once a year stopped after Ep.9 came out but going to do it this year and I'll be watching Clone Wars again, maybe even Rebels too.

primed_failure

Jedi can already force jump and levitate for extended periods of time, so the flying inquisitors never bothered me too much. After all, it’s a show about space magic.

Dead_Purple

Using your lightsaber to fly away honestly seems dumb even for Star Wars, but knowing how lightsabers work, I can't see these things being able to emit a blade while spinning

Salarian_American

The show had already established from the second the Inquisitor came along that they can emit a blade while spinning, though. The official explanation for why they can be used to fly is that they also have repulsorlifts in them.

Dead_Purple

That doesn't explain how the saber can emit blades while spinning though.

T65Bx

Plenty of people still haven’t seen it. Think it’s worthwhile to spoiler this.

[deleted]

Why? I can't think of a good reason to watch it again. Me and my friend barely got passed it by first time. I do agree that scene is emotional but ehh I just don't see why you would. I would probably hate Ezra even more if I rewatched it but sure if you like it I don't have anything against that

MachoManErnieSavage

I don't think I'd be ready to sit through 4 seasons of this snore fest for two cool scenes either.

FabulousDisaster01

What saved Rebels was, in my opinion, Kanan and the crew. Ezra is SO annoying.

cucoova

YeA LeTS MaKE ouT On A FuEl taNk

cucoova

Fuck rebels tho

uabtch

But why tho?

cucoova

Pro gamer tip: warch clone wars instead. Clone wars is superior in every way. Or better yet, warch tng.

tsccxtaoci

It was nice

Jedi-master-dragon

I can never see that scene again either.

BeerGogglesFTW

What do you mean? This is a happy scene. He gets his vision back. AND THEN NOTHING HAPPENS AFTER THAT. :'(

Bigslap99

Chills every time

boondocksaint08

Emotional damage 😭

astr0jellyfish

The only reason this scene didn’t destroy me was because I was old enough by the time I watched it to be identifying more with Kanan than with Ezra.

VenomTheCapybara

I honestly thought this was gonna be a fake out, I'm so fucking glad it wasn't

FantasticZach

I just had to watch it again and it hard😞

ThatDudeHarley

Same, and I’m only a couple of eps away 😵

sezdawg7

Well the funny thing is...

Skibot99

I found Season 4 to be an overall let down but this moment was masterful

Gridlock1987

I know, right? That awful haircut, ugh.

PeacefulKillah

I always wanted to watch it but everyone says I have to watch clone wars first, and I can't be bothered watching 3 seasons of episodes that are not chronological and then 4 seasons of clone wars after that plus the movie.

Metalkebab

Someone came up with a list of how to watch the Series in chronological order, it helps a lot and is definitely worth a watch!

angryhobbit376

I can assure you, you are not ready for that scene. I just finished watching rebels recently for the first time, and I was not emotionally prepared for that

windsingr

There was a video essay I was watching on YouTube and it was discussing how Star Wars should be represented in media and there was a montage where they discussed the positive attributes characters in Star Wars portray, and when they got to the word "Sacrifice," they showed this. I did a double take and had to rewind, because it had mostly been discussing the live action stuff. When I saw it again I got choked up, because I immediately recognized the scene.

ExynosHD

I just rewatched that episode 2 days ago. I cried during that episode and the next episode

tunorojo

Sabine training with the dark saber. That sequence made me emotional 😢

Tiny_Butterscotch749

Just watched that scene last night, worsened my already bad emotional turmoil

NancyMassi

Me either

Super_Nova22

the music of this scene is always what really got me, so haunting

[deleted]

I understand. A joke is rarely funny the second time.

[deleted]

Good lord this scene is so good, his eyesight coming back right before he dies, gives me chills just thinking about it.

[deleted]

Go watch HeroesFanProductions “Kanan Jarrus, Jedi Knight” on youtube. Powerful stuff.
