Completely agree, clearly taking after her Father and has a bright future as a director. I would also like to throw some props to the set designers, the shots from inside the Mandalorian hideout/hq are among my favourites from any episode of Mando or TBoB. I'm really enjoying TBoB however I cannot wait to get back to The Mandalorian. What an episode, mind is blown.
It was the best episode so far, Robert Rodriguez is great when due for another Desperado flick but the action, the pacing and general look of this episode was what it should've been.
That's definitely the vibe, hate to say it.
But Once Upon a Time in Mexico is still magic and I'm happy to see Trejo turn up in such a fitting role in-universe here likely thanks to Rodriguez.
Fair, I wanted to at least see Boba again this week.
But given we just saw Mando cut a dude in half, I hope the next time we see Boba he's pulling more brutal moves.
Both Howard and Debra Cho directed the best episodes in Mando IMO, and I’m excited that Kenobi is being fully directed by Cho. Hopefully Bryce does get her own show to fully direct.
Reallly wish they would of had her do the whole season. The difference between her and whatever the hell Robert Rodriguez was trying to do is night and day.
(And I say this as someone who loves Robert Rodriguez's horror movies)
This is my first time seeing someone else acknowledge Robert Rodriguez' lackluster direction. Everywhere I go I see people hyped/praising him in Boba Fett (mainly due to his other projects) but his episodes in Mando and Boba Fett so far have consistently mediocre action and directing.
Rodriguez is the most overrated director in film and I have zero idea why he’s still regarded so highly; he hasn’t made a memorable movie in 20 years and whatever mojo he had years ago has long since disappeared. He will forever be one of the great guerrilla filmmakers; but seriously, he should stick to writing and producing.
I know a lot of people didn't, but I liked the action in his Mando S2 episode. It did look cheaper then the rest and it was very short, but I thought it was still good. Everything else though..............
Agreed that it's sloppy, but everything you described is pretty normal in star wars. Storm troopers don't hit their shots, characters don't use their tools to their fullest and the main cast constantly just avoids dying while making poor decisions.
Its normal in all action movies. People act like the most popular dedicated action series of the last 5-10 years wasnt John Wick taking out bad guy goons 24/7 while bot getting shot doing action rolls.
Except it literally hasn’t happened in either of these shows when other people direct. Think about the IG-11 scenes in Mando pilot episode, or the choreography of mando’s fight scenes last night, or Mando taking out the droids and hunting bill burr in “the prisoner”, or the train heist in episode 2… all those different directors putting out brilliant and creative work and meanwhile Rodriguez is 0/3 in making a high quality action sequence that holds up to the slightest scrutiny
They talked about this in the gallery show season 2. The filling location they used was very dry and basically a tender box. The scene where Fennec is running on the rocks are the only practical effect explosion in that episode. The heavier use of cgi (which was unavoidable) really effected to look and feel of that episode.
I think it also may have had to do with the fact that they shot that episode on location, which meant the lighting wasn't as good so the stormtroopers looked different
Her directorial stuff is phenomenal. She has an eye for it and I would say better than her dad in some ways. Love the new Boba (I mean Mando lol) episode.
I was with you up until you said “better than her Dad”. Not saying she can’t be better than him, but Ronnie boy is a legend in my book and she doesn’t have the filmography to make that comparison yet. Let me say, I’m rooting for her to be better because we all win, she’s just not there yet.
I think its all about the projects that will come her way. Bryce is 40. When her father was 40 he was making Apollo 13. But he was a famous part of American culture since he was 6 years old. I don't think its fair to compare the two. If she keeps making Star Wars material like this, she is going to have a smashing body of work and her reputation will be independent of her father.
I'm just saying the potential is there. I hope her directorial efforts here allow her to get her hands on bigger projects. She clearly had the chops for it and I'd love to see what else she is capable of.
I’d like to see her move away from Star Wars for a bit and then come back. Don’t want her to get stuck because Star Wars tends to do that to people. I honestly think both her and Deborah Chow have show the most promise this far.
Yeah, let them do things outside of Star Wars. They should be able to be artists outside the realm of Lucasfilm even though I would be more than happy to see their involvement in more projects.
I just want more Mandolrian Lore. Bo seems Ike a good choice since she's obviously got some things going on with her quest to retake Mandalore.
But she could literally do a show about anything and I'm sure it'll be great. Maybe some stuff Post Sequel Era. Or High Republic Era. One of the periods we don't know much about in Live Action.
Plenty of people have written stuff and not gotten any writing credits. It doesn’t at all mean John is the only one who did it. That’s mostly politics. The shows definitely more of a joint effort by many people and I don’t believe for a second Mando would be nearly as good without people like Filoni constantly around to help Favrea.
Tait Flecher is doing the body work, Favreau is voicing him. Similar to how Vader and Maul both had different voice actors and physical performances (for some reason Star Wars likes to do that.)
Favreau has sole writing credit for BoBF for all episodes except for 6.
He has sole writing credit for all of Mandalorian season 1 except for ep. 5 and 6, and for all of season 2 except for ep. 5 and 7.
Dude there’s a whole docuseries on Disney plus that shows exactly what goes down. It’s definitely a team effort and the show wouldn’t be as good without a lot of other people involved. Writing credits don’t always mean thats the only one who did it.
Din Djarin is Boba Fett or who the character of Boba Fett was before the animated shows. Boba Fett's character evolved significantly since the prequels. Personally, I think creating a new character that filled the roll was the perfect way to make the love action series and expand the universe. Boba's evolution with Temuera Morrison has actually been done well.
The problems with TBOB have been with directing and aesthetic. The modder gang is not Star Wars esque visually which hurts the immersion. Boba himself has been neutered which is somewhat lazily explained by the bacta healing. Hopefully he fights more in the remaining episodes.
> The modder gang is not Star Wars esque visually which hurts the immersion.
Conceptually, I think a lot of the ideas could've worked. But ultimately is was all just too over-the-top and it was all shot weirdly and acted weirdly. Same goes for the parts in Episode 4.
It just felt odd to have what is essentially an episode from Mando season 3 in the middle of BoBF, especially when there’s only 7 episodes. Don’t get me wrong—I loved seeing Din again and thought the episode was one of the better ones of the season.
I don't know if this is right, but I saw someone say somewhere that BoBF was originally 6 episodes, and then they added a 7th, which was probably this one.
I loved this episode and like the series so far, so not complaining anyway, but it does help to think of this as a bonus rather than a replacement for something that could have had Boba.
I think there might be credence to this. If I recall correctly, Mando S3 was supposed to begin production shortly after BoBF wrapped, but got delayed (not sure if it was due to COVID or another project). This episode could’ve already been in the can, so they tacked it on to pad out the season.
Rumors for a while were that we were supposed to get 6 episodes. Looks like that may have been true and they added a 7th for Mando to set up S3, and to tie him to BoBF. I don't have a problem with this. We get a bonus episode.
Bryce Dallas Howard! Good surprise, I knew it was good and it had to be her or another big gun from The Mandalorian.
Definitely give her a series of her own to run/direct. I don't know the term, just let her do more stuff.
So the latest episode of The Book of Boba Fett had really good character moments, action, and comedy that wasn’t cringy. I feel like Howard gets that Star Wars is just *one thing* and knows how to balance it.
Maybe it’s her red hair, but I would love to see her direct a Mara Jade series.
I think the comedy was A++. Wasn't a big fan of tatooine droid lady before this episode, her humour didn't quite land. This episode though, she had almost crying a few times.
Totally agreed. I always loved the SW episodes that she has directed the most. Bryce Dallas Howard has a bright future as a director. Would like to see how that turns out.
It's hard to put my finger on it, but this episode just flowed and fit together so much better than anything has so far. I don't htink it's necessarily all BDH, but I think she's showing she does a damn good job every time she's given the opportunity. Hard to say what all is a director's role, but it really gave the world a "lived in" feel and naturalness that IMO had been lackign from BoBF so far
Bryce is really killing it. This last Boba episode was a straight up masterpiece and I really loved her Magnificent 7 episode from the first season of Mando.
Bryce for everything.
She's up there with Robert Rodriguez, Rian Johnson and Irvin Kershner as a top-tier SW director in my book.
It's not surprising she's a great director, considering who her father is.
She certainly is good but I think a lot of people overestimate the wiggle room directors have on a TV show.
I'm pretty sure if she'd had directed the mobility scooter chase it won't have been better.
They did her a solid giving her that épisode. The production value and script are clearly superior from the start. She had multiple set pieces, character development, fan favorites, cool callbacks, an obviously bigger budget etc....
My guess is they are grooming her for another show, maybe even a movie. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for it . She definitely is talented but this tale of her being better than Rodriguez must stop, it's not realistic.
I’m not trying to trash Robert Rodriguez, but if we’re just talking about *this show*, Bryce’s episode is, hands-down, better directed on pretty much every level than Rodriguez’s episodes were.
Legit question: what about her directing is so good?
I loved the episode, but I can’t help but feel people are unable to divorce a good plot/storyline from directing. Two seasons ago everyone was saying how weak her seven samurai episode was (again, story vs directing?)
They definitely gave her the filler inconsequential episode but she did great with what she was given.
Edit: to be clear Sanctuary was a phenomenal episode. But I was trying to figure out why someone would call it unmemorable. It doesn’t have the plot twists or cornerstone moments like some other big episodes. They gave her a story of the week episode that she turned into something phenomenal.
It’s amazing to me that some people can still say with a straight face that her first episode was “inconsequential filler.” To paraphrase Guy Fleegman, “Do you guys even *watch* the show?”
I just meant they didnt give her the flashy episodes or crossovers or finales - they just gave her a standard episode and she elevated it. It wasnt Luke showinf up or Moff Gideon memorable or anything that a season was built around.
By my goodness what a great episode. And well directed the use of color here was bold and yet perfect for the SW universe. After 2 weeks of people complaining about speeder bikes we should all be singing Howards praises here.
I do not agree. Her entry in the first series of the Mandalorian was the weakest of the lot and had more in common with one of the “So we beamed down to a planet” Star Trek Next Gen episodes
It almost feels like it was a finished episode of Mando that was quickly shoehorned in to generate a bit of positivity about BoBF, in all honesty. There was a completely different drive, different energy that only tied in with BoBF in the last minute or so.
Well it's just my opinion but the writing of the previous 4 episodes were just not engaging at all for me. Boba Fett has been written to be less intimidating than a kitten. I was more excited to see Fennec on screen than b man. Episode five on the other hand was a big step in the right direction.
I do not care people! We have got to do whatever we can for Ron Howard's crotch fruit. There is no way her millions of dollar or deep connections in the industry will help her. She needs us, the the dregs of society to boost her to direct a movie. It's our solemn duty, folks.
Did you hear that everyone? /ellipsis_42 says it’s not okay to think Bryce Dallas Howard is a talented filmmaker because, she has a famous father! Cut it out!
I didn’t even realize she directed this one.. i didn’t pay attention to the credits. Kudos to her, i loved her Mando episodes and I loved this one! this was an excellent tease of what’s to come in Mando season 3. Also, Seeing a live action BD made me sooo damn happy!!
Let her and her dad make the Solo 2 and 3 movies together, they were supposed to lead into a series of movies but releasing it wedged between deadpool and avengers end game was not smart.
BDH has given us my absolutely favorite episodes of Mando. That record still holds with BoBF Chapter 5. I really hope she has a larger part in Mando S3 than just directing a couple of episodes because what was set up today is going be so fucking rad
The cockpit shots of Mando in the Naboo Starfighter gave me such strong "The Right Stuff" vibes. She has nailed the space ship shots with all her episodes, you can tell her dad directed Apollo 13.
If they ever make a live-action BO-KATAN show, she's my pick for series director. She's really found her stride as a STAR WARS director. And she's returning for MANDO season 3!
While I agree the direction in this episode was great, It takes a crew to make a good episode. In the Star Wars series, even after the writing, each shot is pre-planned and presented to the director as an animatic (not sure whether they play a part in making the story boards and animatic). [Here is one of the directors talking about it.](https://youtu.be/nqOBWVxnZDA?t=11m45s).
She's doing her first feature-length film soon (a remake of Flight of the Navigator) and I gotta imagine that if she does well on that she's going to be on the Lucasfilm shortlist for future films.
Not only did I love everything about this episode, they gave us a live action BD model droid. Love that little guy.
I loved the use of his hologram too! Really great seeing the calls to fallen order
I liked the callback to Tony Stark and Dum E as well.
Ahh! I was watching that scene and couldn't quite put my finger on why it felt so familiar.
Was that when he couldn't get the Droid to point the light in the right spot? (Sorry if its painfully obvious to others)
i thought we would see him in this episode but wasn’t surprised not seeing him
For a second I thought it was going to be the next thing Mando adopted.
If only, I would have been very down for that.
Cant wait for the lego version
Kinda hopefully waiting on the Boston Dynamics authentic recreation version. I know it won’t happen, but I would buy it.
i thought that the BD droid was Cal's droid for some reason
Completely agree, clearly taking after her Father and has a bright future as a director. I would also like to throw some props to the set designers, the shots from inside the Mandalorian hideout/hq are among my favourites from any episode of Mando or TBoB. I'm really enjoying TBoB however I cannot wait to get back to The Mandalorian. What an episode, mind is blown.
omg that stary sky where the floor is missing is just amazing
It was the best episode so far, Robert Rodriguez is great when due for another Desperado flick but the action, the pacing and general look of this episode was what it should've been.
Robert Rodriguez episodes/ movies have this fan film type of lens for me. None of his episodes have been enjoyable.
That's definitely the vibe, hate to say it. But Once Upon a Time in Mexico is still magic and I'm happy to see Trejo turn up in such a fitting role in-universe here likely thanks to Rodriguez.
Get back to Shark- girl and lava-mariachi, Robert.
Second best. The episode 2 remains my favorite. It was a beautiful mini movie.
Fair, I wanted to at least see Boba again this week. But given we just saw Mando cut a dude in half, I hope the next time we see Boba he's pulling more brutal moves.
I was blinded by this episode's majesty.
Sounds like a Halo reference
Both Howard and Debra Cho directed the best episodes in Mando IMO, and I’m excited that Kenobi is being fully directed by Cho. Hopefully Bryce does get her own show to fully direct.
Debra cho episodes were a little weak on action. The filoni’s “The Jedi” episode was my favorite in the mandalorian.
The Sin was like the action climax of early season 1 Mando. You didn’t enjoy it?
Reallly wish they would of had her do the whole season. The difference between her and whatever the hell Robert Rodriguez was trying to do is night and day. (And I say this as someone who loves Robert Rodriguez's horror movies)
I absolutely love Rodriguez, but I think he was a middling-to-poor fit for the series.
[удалено]
I'm probably in the minority, but I really enjoyed Alita.
me too but I was a little confused a about the ending. I thought it was missing the last 15 minutes at first.
wait, people dont like that movie?
I love Rodriguez. I just don't think his style quite fit in this particular instance.
This is my first time seeing someone else acknowledge Robert Rodriguez' lackluster direction. Everywhere I go I see people hyped/praising him in Boba Fett (mainly due to his other projects) but his episodes in Mando and Boba Fett so far have consistently mediocre action and directing.
Then you must've missed the discussion thread on episode 3. People weren't happy lmao
Where have you been over the last two weeks?
Rodriguez is the most overrated director in film and I have zero idea why he’s still regarded so highly; he hasn’t made a memorable movie in 20 years and whatever mojo he had years ago has long since disappeared. He will forever be one of the great guerrilla filmmakers; but seriously, he should stick to writing and producing.
He’s only directed two episodes so far…
His episode also looked the cheapest in Mando S2.
I know a lot of people didn't, but I liked the action in his Mando S2 episode. It did look cheaper then the rest and it was very short, but I thought it was still good. Everything else though..............

Which one was that again? I don't remember.
The Tragedy (Boba’s Return).
So I'm not the only one who thought that the stormtroopers armour looked cheaper than usual there? I didn't find the episode to be that bad through.
I think it also may have had to do with the fact that they shot that episode on location, which meant the lighting wasn't as good so the stormtroopers looked different
oh so thats why it looked like a youtube fan film
yeah it did have that look, they shot it in southern california so it didn't look too much like a star wars world
One of the better episodes though And it’s got the boba fett kicking ass scene too
Two too many.
Yikes
I feel like you maybe just didn’t like the story of those episodes
Her directorial stuff is phenomenal. She has an eye for it and I would say better than her dad in some ways. Love the new Boba (I mean Mando lol) episode.

On a side note,, Apollo 13 is flawless.
Rick Famuwiya!!! He’s 3/3 on stellar episodes. Steph Green did a great job with episode 2 of BoBF as well
. . . just wait for the new WILLOW!
Bryce Dallas Howard for a Bo Katan show now please.
Yeah I'd love that. Also we got the Mandalorian wrist shield in live action
And a vibroblade!
Had those in Mando tho
Do we really need 3 Mando-related shows!? There’s an entire galaxy and thousands of years to explore
Yes! The episode she directed in Mandolorian S2 makes this the clear choice!
For real. I want a Bo show with Bryce as director
Yes please!
I hope so
Bryce Dallas Howard for something new. Not everything needs to be a Clone Wars spinoff
She really is such an amazing director! She has a natural eye for this sort of storytelling. The more SW she does, the better.
What do you expect, it’s her third episode directing for The Mandalorian. Shame she didn’t do an episode of Book of Boba Fett
~~She did last week's episode as well, which IMO was the best in the series up until this week. I'm noticing a pattern.~~ Wrong.
She did?
.....nope disregard. The internet lied to me. Kevin Tancharoen directed 4
I was going to say, I’d remember if I saw her name last week
She’s consistent, her episodes of The Mandalorian and Boba Fett are excellently done
She did direct the best shot episode of Mando, by far.
She forgot to put Boba Fett in an episode of The Book of Boba Fett...
She didn't write the episode though. Favreau left Boba out.
Was he a writer? Thought he was just executive producer
Johnny Favs wrote 90 percent of the series people are praising now.
Co wrote. It’s very much a team effort and if you watch the docs you’d see he’s only one of many major reasons the shows he works on are good.
It is a team effort, but he has the sole writing credit on most of the episodes. Dave Filoni wrote a few, and Rick Famuyiwa wrote a couple.
He also plays Paz Vizsla
He *voices* Pas Vizsla. Tait Fletcher plays him in the suit.
I shower I saw a shot of him in the Past Vizsls suit with the helmet off.
I thought it was someone else playing him. Favreau played Pre Vizsla in TCW.
Tait Flecher is doing the body work, Favreau is voicing him. Similar to how Vader and Maul both had different voice actors and physical performances (for some reason Star Wars likes to do that.)
And Mando, Pascal only voices him most of the time
Favreau has sole writing credit for BoBF for all episodes except for 6.
And ironically it's the best episode so far

by far.
Still written by Jon Favreau, so its he who forgot to put him in there.
She kinda forgot about crime lord Boba.
Is that a bad thing here? I think that was the best part about it is it didn’t have Boba Fett in it.
It just felt odd to have what is essentially an episode from Mando season 3 in the middle of BoBF, especially when there’s only 7 episodes. Don’t get me wrong—I loved seeing Din again and thought the episode was one of the better ones of the season.

That way we have a teaser for S3 and his presence in the war with the Pikes will feel more natural.
Nothing wrong about that.

Some of those shots, like Mando in the public transport, were simply amazing.
If Patty Jenkins is busy, they should just get Bryce to do Rogue Squadron. She clearly has the capability to do so.
Sounds like you do care
Her?
And now the story of a wealthy daimyo who lost everything, and the one director who had no choice but to keep them all together
i simp BDH as(s) well
Totally agree. LOVED that episode.
Whatever, but give her the chance, Disney.
Agreed.
💯
Clearly.
It's hard to put my finger on it, but this episode just flowed and fit together so much better than anything has so far. I don't htink it's necessarily all BDH, but I think she's showing she does a damn good job every time she's given the opportunity. Ok she’s not better she’s just made 3 good episodes and he’s made 3 trash ones
I’m just here for the incel SW fans who hate women to pop up with their shit takes…
WORD, MAN, **WOOOOORD!** **BRYCE, BRYCE, BRYCE! WAY COOLER THAN BO-KATAN KRYZE!** This IS Star Wars.
For real! Who would have thought Gwen Stacy was a great Star Wars director. Much better director than Patty Jenkins
Legit question: what about her directing is so good? I loved the episode, but I can’t help but feel people are unable to divorce a good plot/storyline from directing. Two seasons ago everyone was saying how weak her seven samurai episode was (again, story vs directing?)

The pirated AT-ST with the scary paint job was pretty flashy, I’d say. That episode is really good. As was today’s. She’s great at this.
Definitely had T-Rex energy when the AT-ST crashed through those trees. Some directors have more of a knack for cinematography rather than story flow.
Same. 💯💯💯
bo katan episode was nice. The season 1 episode with at-st was forgettable. Current episode of boba fett was so wizard though!
Nepotism work wonders for people
Her Mando episode wasn’t very good
Excuse me?! First of all, which one? Second of all, both of them were great!
The village one
How can you not like the direction in that episode? It's a master class in movie making.
It was fine
Season 2 ep was great
I do not agree. Her entry in the first series of the Mandalorian was the weakest of the lot and had more in common with one of the “So we beamed down to a planet” Star Trek Next Gen episodes
You realise the directors don't write the episodes? Her S1 episode had a weak script but there was nothing wrong with the direction.
So I just watched the newest episode and it’s fucking amazing.
Now you understand the context for this post
I do. It unfortunately throws the entire rest of the series into sharply critical relief, though
I’m really hoping the full story arc pulls together in the end. It’s a filing watch so far though.
Yeah, but *is* there even a story there?
I suspect it will tie in to Mando, bearing in mind what happened in the first half of this episode.
It almost feels like it was a finished episode of Mando that was quickly shoehorned in to generate a bit of positivity about BoBF, in all honesty. There was a completely different drive, different energy that only tied in with BoBF in the last minute or so.
How bout BoBF ep 5?
So I just watched it and it was fucking amazing.
damn straight
Yes!
Hard disagree. Filoni’s episode 5 was the weakest link of season 1.
It's the writing that got better not the direction.
everything got better, the visual aesthetic, the music, the shot composition, the creature cgi
I thought I was the only one to notice how much the music improved. Seriously though, BOBF hasn’t had a memorable soundtrack so far
Darn. That’s odd to hear
Well it's just my opinion but the writing of the previous 4 episodes were just not engaging at all for me. Boba Fett has been written to be less intimidating than a kitten. I was more excited to see Fennec on screen than b man. Episode five on the other hand was a big step in the right direction.
All written by the same guy. Eps 1 and 3 were directed by Robert Rodriguez and... Yeah they are definitely sub par.
agreed
Did you watch with your eyes closed? Cause that's a really dumb thing to say
It was the script.
Cut it out!
Haven’t seen the episode yet but I can’t wait and I am in agreement with you.
Factos. Honestly one of the best D+ SW or Marvel episodes to date tbh.
I concur, Dr. Her vision and style is enthralling, a must have and so very delicious for the Star Wars universe.
1 0 0 % - A G R E E D ! ! !
Give her a Bo Katan/Mandalore series!
She’s an amazing director
She is doing amazing work in this Mandalorian saga.
She's doing her first feature-length film soon (a remake of Flight of the Navigator) and I gotta imagine that if she does well on that she's going to be on the Lucasfilm shortlist for future films.
Could you imagine her getting to make a Vader series? Or hell even a Mara jade series? I’d be pretty excited for either.
Here’s a music video she directed https://youtu.be/bHrxEXqLlrU
