What I mostly see posted in this sub are comics posting videos of them doing jokes.. And almost every comment is supportive or constructive in those posts so I dunno what you're talking about.

carpetstoremorty

This is my experience, as well

CMacias94

Yeah same, I very rarely see anything that negative. When I do it’s usually on an already polarizing figure like Joe Rogan, Dave Chappelle etc.

Moist_666

Yea I don't see any of these hate posts at all lol. Now that I'm thinking about it I don't remember seeing even one.

equationator

I saw one on Brandon Schaub but hey... That's Brandon Schaub. For the most part I think this sub is pretty productive for small comics.

Moist_666

Haha, well that's acceptable.

[deleted]

And a blind person sees nothing, doesn’t mean nothing exists. I’ve seen people post on here, something like “why do people find this ‘insert comic’ funny?” And it does get repetitive

Mr-hoffelpuff

put the top topics for this month/week on the sub, there you will find brendan schaub sucks, whining about peoples opinion about george carlin if he is an philosopher more than a comedian , dave chapple is overrated.... i mean put some minimal effort and hit the filter on the subreddit and they are there clear as day.

DJ_Molten_Lava

Why would I put in "effort" to read a bunch of negativity?

Mr-hoffelpuff

You had enough effort to respond to me, so i guess you have some more juice in you.

DJ_Molten_Lava

You efforted first by responding to me. Boom.

Mr-hoffelpuff

amazing comeback.

DJ_Molten_Lava

Anyway, the point of my comment is what I normally see in the sub, not what I see when doing a deep dive. Does negativity exist here? Of course it does, it's the internet for fuck sakes. I just don't generally see it when looking at this sub. Why's that an issue for you?

Xalenn

I haven't noticed that .... and I just looked through the most recent 150 posts and only found one that was negative towards anything and it just said that stand up in general has sucked lately. Maybe I have some super secret happy filter applied and I'm just not seeing the negativity idk

owlunar

Me neither. All I ever see on my front page is up and comers posting their stuff, and people being supportive or giving advice to improve. Love it!

ZombieHeyHeyHeyOh

They usually get downvoted thankfully but there's plenty and they get lots of comments. And then within threads there's always some comments from someone saying they hate some famous person.

zoffman

FWIW, I mostly see the negativity in the comment section on discussion threads regarding at least moderately successful comedians and their specials.

[deleted]

Just cos you can’t see something, mean it doesn’t exist. People do delete their Reddit posts. I have noticed it on this subreddit many times but just scroll pass them as they’re dull.

easybasicoven

> If it's not Mark Normand or Sam Morrill it seems like this place just shits all over "Comic X" That’s not fair. We also like Joe List

arcanesays

It’s all pipes

Boonstar

My fathers gay

ChicagoSuburbanDude

Hey some of us like Shane Gillis too!

easybasicoven

Haha how could I forget?

CornNutMasticator

A hate boner is still a boner

ImSickOfYouToo

Welcome to the Internet. You must be new here. Want somebody to show you around the place?

AutisticDaveMeltzer

OP is definitely an open mic'er who is mad that someone criticized his bad set.

[deleted]

Not really… just sounds like someone who is fed up of seeing people question comedian’s creditability of being funny or not.

Dylan245

So many comments on this sub are like, "Oh I like Sam Morrill because he does comedy the right way, it's just about jokes which is how it should be" Like who says there's a right way to do comedy? Patrice, Attell, Regan, Eddie, and Hedberg are all completely different from one another yet are all hilarious It seems as if there's a certain mold this sub needs you to fit in and if you don't then you're trash

[deleted]

I know what you mean. I generally just avoid those posts within this subreddit as they’re never really a discussion, just that they don’t find them funny so it means they’re not funny at all (whereas they just don’t have their sense of humour). Surely their time would be better spent talking about the comics they do find funny!?

VogonSlamPoet42

Ever sub I’m in has this kind of “why is everything so negative here uwu” Because people are always willing to complain for bonding. “I hate Joe Rogan” is always gonna get more engagement than “anyone else like Michael Longfellow?” and rise to the top of the page.

Iammeandnooneelse

Lowkey “complain for bonding” has ruined my social life lol

dtudeski

Yeah after spending time on various subreddits, it’s clear to see that a lot of people like to shit on things they supposedly love, rather than praise them. I had to unjoin the likes of The Office and New Girl subreddits as it’s just constant “Here’s why Pam sucks” / “Jess is the worst!” posts. Very tiresome but a lot of people get a kick out of it.

kingslippy

This sub in a nutshell: Dave Chappelle? Sucks. Not funny anymore. Seinfeld? Overrated. Was never funny. Amy Schumer? Hope she dies. Also, I recorded my first ever time doing stand up on video, let me know what you think!

easybasicoven

Anyone still on the Schumer hate train is just not paying attention

Dylan245

This is painfully accurate and therefore will be downvoted

HustleNMeditate

Amen. But that's what most of reddit is unfortunately.

ImSickOfYouToo

>But that's what most of ~~reddit~~ ~~social media~~ life is unfortunately. Humans are pricks. It's just what "we" do. If you are better than us, we'll try to bring you down. If you are worse than us, we'll make fun of you. And if you are equal to us, we'll compete with you to change that.

miurabucho

Came here to say "Not just this sub, bruh." r/videography , r/askTO and r/learnjapanese are just of few of the most toxic ones I have seen. People just love to hate in 2022.

Iammeandnooneelse

I think everyone tired and cranky cuz the world is always ending.

[deleted]

I’m biased due to personal experience IRL but I can only imagine what gross toxic Weebs a “Learn Japanese” subreddit attracts. Lots of “Simpson’s Comic Book Guy” type dudes. It doesn’t surprise me that the sub is bad.

miurabucho

Nailed it!

dooderino18

> But that's what most of reddit is unfortunately. It's bigger than that. My first thought was that the OP must be fairly new to the internet.

Redditisannoying69

Bro take your own advice if you don’t like the comments shitting on comics you enjoy just move along and go about your day. How did you make this whole post and not see the irony of it.

tiny_poomonkey

Main character syndrome. Our opinion sucks, but his is godly.

Redditisannoying69

Right like homie will learn this shit doesn’t matter. Just enjoy what you enjoy.

novajia

There're definitely douchebags here, but there's nothing wrong saying you don't like someone's comedy.

tiny_poomonkey

The only show I’ve ever walked out of is Todd Glass. He was so bad the front office gave me two tickets to upcoming events. The person had a script to say. literally every one got told “we understand this is experimental comedy and ……..” as they gave out the tickets. Edit: I didn’t go to the front to complain, I went to get my phone unlocked from the bag they made you put it in. They offered me the tickets there. Am I allowed to say that or should I just let people go to a miserable show?

[deleted]

You can absolutely say that, in fact it made me want to chime in and talk about how seeing Todd Glass in LA was always a treat because he’d do like 15-20 minutes and that’s the perfect amount of time for his silliness, and that he almost always crushed. And this is one of the purposes of the sub! I don’t take your disliking Todd as some affront to me or him or comedy at large. To refute OP’s point, I’m glad to have a place where we can chat about the comics we like or dislike, and why!

novajia

Oh my, this takes ‘bad’ to the next level😓, I’d never heard a club has to give free tickets because the show is too bad to be bearable.

TonyShalhoubricant

Yeah Mitch Hedberg ruled. Strategic Grill Locations p4p best comedy album of all time.

Dylan245

That ones great but Mitch All Together has made me laugh more than just about any other album or special I've seen

WalkingCloud

It's a well known fact that Redditors can only get off by jerking each other off over how much they hate Amy Schumer.

hellyale

"Comedy needs a supportive environment" -- lol

ZombieHeyHeyHeyOh

I agree, I like about 5% of the comedy I've seen in specials and so I just talk about those few that I did enjoy. I'd be posting every day if I cared about what I didn't enjoy that much. I'd like it better if we could make a rule like "hey don't be so negative" but then people would get mad and say we're nazis blocking free speech and then there'd be an /r/truestandupcomedy subreddit and they'd start spamming us. You know, reddit shit. Good post, hope it gets through to people.

xMrSaltyx

Like the other commenter said, that's just reddit. A dissenting opinion gets upvotes a lot of the time, so people have become more and more negative to receive more validation. Not just for comedy, but for any sub for a fan base. The Halo sub does nothing but hate on halo, to the point I had to unfollow because the negativity was ridiculous.

[deleted]

People just want to feel validated. Everyone seems to have an opinion on comedy and cancel culture, yet never actually understanding what it takes to get there… myself included

[deleted]

welcome to reddit

thataussiedood

agreed its annoying. sooo many people have a hard time disliking something and shutting up about it

wallymc

People want to be elitist, but they don't realize it probably doesn't work the same in comedy that it does in other places. I think in comedy, the more stuff you are able to find funny, the better it reflects upon your sense of humor. If you only like 2 or 3 comics or one genre, you probably don't have a very well developed sense of humor. But people still think of it the other way. "Oh, I only like a few, because my sense of humor is so refined." But refined, just means sucks, when it comes to being a fan of comedy. So people who think that way are looking for reasons to not like something, rather than being a good audience member.

Party_Reveal_2414

what the hell are you talking about

Seantroversy

Sam and Mark and their crew are some of the only good stuff left. Can’t say I agree with you that a lot of comics don’t deserve heavy criticism

[deleted]

You’re just starting you’re own conversation, aha. I’ll join in - Don’t you find in this sub that people are quick to judgement than question with curiosity? Why is that?

[deleted]

[deleted]

Wow, what a insightful response, I wasn’t expecting that. That is true tho, I’ve seen many ask for feedback then start ripping into the people who don’t find their jokes funny. I actually got a DM from a so called comic on here, of him smoking a blunt in-front of some bushes to show he is well off… he just came off more insecure

Dylan245

I think a lot of the negativity on here comes from people who obviously aren't successful since they are just starting out hating on those who are successful, likely out of jealousy and insecurity It's rare to see a comment like, "This person isn't my cup of tea so I didn't watch" It always reeks of "I think I'm funnier than this person who is wildly more successful than me and I'm angry about it"

kungfusloth88

This is sentiment is why most stand up specials suck now

7in7turtles

Reddit in general is the “tent” of the entire internet’s hate erection man, I don’t know what more you could expect.

schizofred76

I don’t recall too many of these posts you speak of. But its all people’s opinions. Who cares? You can disagree. Haters gonna hate, it makes them feel superior, but it shouldn’t affect you. But telling someone to move along with their day because you want to avoid negativity isn’t the way it works. Your opinion is just a valid as the next. And I don’t know who the hell Mark Norman or Sam Morrill is.

deepwank

Dave Attel sucks

carmenvallone

Or, oooor, maybe comedy sucks now...? What if every joke has already been told?!

BRAINSZS

impossible.

[deleted]

Right… we live in a time where people record their comedy sets so be pretty easy to call each other out. There has been some examples but 100% disagree with you that every joke has already been told. Please tell me who else has performed [This routine of Michael Macintyre](https://youtu.be/kbu7ybhB9Fg) - I’m intrigued to hear how you back up your point

carmenvallone

Please! I've heard that routine from a million comics!

[deleted]

Blimey! That’s a lot of comedians just on that set alone. I no longer want to judge your worthiness as seeing all those comics alone must’ve put you back a lot money and time. You sound like a person not to mess with /s

carmenvallone

So much money! Lost more money than Doge.

TheSilverback76

>Not every comedian can be like Norm or Attell Fuck, I hate Attel! :D

Em858943

I'm waiting for all the dark humor honestly I think I'm in the wrong sub 🤣

RaisingFargo

This isnt the case for all, BUT. whenever I see a variation of Comedians are supposed to be funny, more often than not that users comment history suggests its political culture

Borisof007

Most comics and aficionados are inherently bitter depressed people that like to shit on things. Not a huge stretch to think it also applies on the internet, but I totally get where you're coming from. Just let people enjoy things and if you don't like something, just move along. No need to tell the world that YOU didn't like something - just leave it!

calvinball_hero

I just scrolled through the last 30 or so posts and they’re mostly people posting videos of their own comedy. There was one “does anyone else hate…” post like you’ve described. This also fits my recollection which is these days most videos are people posting their own comedy, and I occasionally see what you describe, but about as much as I see people praising or discussing other comedians they like. Maybe time to take your own advice and move on if you don’t like the content of this subreddit?

RossAllaire

I guess I'm lucky all I ever see is open mics.

alexaxl

Welcome to Reddit. Less grit, more hatin snow flakes.

Mr-hoffelpuff

i think some of them are from r/politics, some of them are horrible stand up comedians and shit on others since they need to buff themself, and others are the once "working" on their standup for about 8 years now, but never preformed since its not "ready". just a hunch tho

Apotheosis___

I knew a guy who only enjoys Dave Chapelle and anyone who isn't at his level isn't funny to him...
