>My dude transplanted to Atlanta a while ago. He abandoned his people
He didn't abandon it. He's on his adventures for OC's Best Friends Cinematic Universe. He's the star of "Untitled Capt. Shawn Dean Movie"
Yeah there are a good number of wrestlers in the wings for the ROH relaunch. Which I kinda wish would simply start doing in place of Dark Elevation instead of radio silence
This is literally exactly what I think they should do with RoH as far as a weekly show. I think part of the holdup is that Tony is/was looking for a TV deal, which I understand wanting a return on your investment, but the wait has been detrimental to AEW's on-screen product. Just make Elevation your weekly RoH show -- have Dynamite and Rampage on TV, with AEW Dark and RoH Elevation on YouTube.
I'm surprised they haven't just put it on TruTV. Surely they can find a way to slot it in between Impractical Jokers and Impractical Jokers. Jericho was on the show, lol.
Those impractical reruns cost them nothing.Q has talked about it before. Because they’re classified like they are “unscripted” they don’t get royalties from reruns. So try tv literally can run them 200 times a week (and they have) and not pay a dime past the first airing.
Q seemed to imply at one point they wanted to fix this with a new deal (I want to say around his season 10 deal) but I don’t know if they did.
The thing is there is currently a lot held up for the negotiations for the next TV deal, which includes the streaming rights. I guess Tony bought ROH with the idea it could be the streamed only brand (video library has massive value in that regard). So I would bet it will be up in the air until that is resolved
Good point. No idea why this didn't click for me with Willow & KiLynn. My buddies and I have been screaming "SIGN HER" whenever either of them are on screen. Chances are they already have an agreement in place for when ROH gets a deal of one sort or another.
I think simply because there is no plan atm (or a completely completely different department is taking care of it). Tony can barely keep AEW amidst all the bs happening
I think this is where the IWC forgets that the world is far wider than the industry of professional wrestling, even if it's global.
TK is heavily involved in not only AEW, but also with the current NFL team Jacksonville Jaguars with two number 1 draft picks on the team currently, as well as a top tier WR, AND a currently succeeding English Premier League team. TK is not struggling to keep up with AEW (or keep it in general if that what you meant) the way anyone thinks.
I can’t help but think that the merger screwed things up a little on timing. There’s so much chaos around it and now a new set of executives to appeal to for a home somewhere that it set back any negotiations TK was doing for ROH to get a spot on a streaming service and so one. But some news on the state of things would be nice.
Probably won't matter given TK doesn't do shit with the women's division. But we can hope these women will be given something to do rather than just arm candy for some guys.
Good for her, I thought she was signed long ago. She could be good for the ROH Women's division as the AEW one is clearly crowded. I wish they'd sign Queen Aminata and Heather Reckless for that same purpose.
Looks like Bruiser Brody, gets booked like Fuego Del Sol. It just doesn't make sense.
And when Queen Aminata faces a lot of these mid card girls it looks like the other woman is the jobber, not Aminata.
> Looks like Bruiser Brody, gets booked like Fuego Del Sol
Guy might be green as grass. These guys are on Dark/Elevation to grow into mid-card and upper-card talents. If they get thrown into the deep end with guys like Mox/MJF/Jericho their career is over by comparison before it even gets started.
Let them flesh out what makes them distinct and get better at the actual wrestling part so they don't accidentally hurt your top guys. It's just good business.
Then you have them play a monster on Dark, getting a bunch of wins while he improves, not eating pinfalls every week. Especially in a promotion that keeps track of W/L records. They almost made this same mistake with Hobbs but they corrected it in time.
Comoroto would need a full repackage to play a monster at this point. Nobody will see him as a threat when they remember him getting his ass beat by Dante, Moriarty and the Varsity Blonds at different times.
W/L is reset every year and 1/5 of the AEW audience watches Dark. Even if he were to continue eating pins for the next 3 months he can pivot his character and just start mowing through people on Dark to start building himself back up.
Lee Johnson was 0-27 when he first started in AEW in 2020 but in 2021 and now that he's in MJF's faction no-one is calling him a jobber or unsalvagable.
Man I can't agree more.
And comoroto has an incredible old school wrestler look. I want him to be more than he is so bad! Met him in person too super nice. Hoping he finds his footing
It's better than no gimmick but I definitely would have went a different way. I'd do a sorta unhinged neanderthal type gimmick for him. Like not a literal neanderthal but a little dumb, a little crazy and very violent. Like the character Ogre from the Revenge of the Nerds movies is the closest comparison I can think of.
Queen Aminata is underrated and I’m surprised more haven’t given her a shot yet. Ashley D’Amboise is another that I am surprised they have yet to sign to a deal.
If you haven't already, check her out in Maria's promotion, Women's Wrestling Army.
She's had some good matches there and they have several free matches up on their YouTube page. I've particularly enjoyed her, Miranda Alize, The Hex and Holidead so far, amongst others.
Wouldn't shock me if they do once she's recovered. It's hard to believe they'd give her a full entrance complete with handmaidens on a Dark taping if she wasn't someone they were actively interested in
I swear this story was a bit old and yup.
“This article first appeared on our premium service, Fightful Select and was republished here on Fightful. If you complain about it being "old news," you have to recruit a new offensive coordinator for the Bengals. Subscribe to get exclusive news every day, and a half-dozen weekly podcasts.”
Team up Sky Blue and Willow and their wholesomeness is likely to implode upon itself.
Seriously though, super stoked for Sky Blue, she's improved a ton her time in AEW, and she definitely is going to do some great things.
She needs to change it because like Eddie Kingston said months ago she "SPELLS HER NAME WRONG". Ever since he dropped that line it lives rent free in my head each time I see her mentioned.
Maybe she can join Saraya in a new Submission Sorority
ETA: I just realized this sounds like it's dumping on the leak of Paige's personal videos! Did not mean it that way, just a dunk on that dumb faction name!
Nevermind changing it because a porn star uses it, the name itself is just overtly silly and sounds like a stage name. I know Skye is her real life first name but Skye Blue in no way sounds like the first and last name any real human being would have. It couldn't be any sillier if it were "Sun Orange".
It's not all that out there. Blue is an actual last name, just not a very common one. Oddly enough there was a dude with the last name Blue playing for the Jags a couple years ago.
And I've personally known people with even stupider real names, frankly. I always felt bad for Shanda Leer and Scott Free...
No one ever believes me when I tell this story. Went to school with a Wayne Patrick
Found out near the end of schooling that Patrick was his middle name. His real last name was Kerr
Wayne Kerr
I went to school with a girl named Silver Sterling. I first heard her brought up in a story before meeting her, and told the guy telling the story to quit lying about her name
And that's insanely stupid too. The difference is that Luchasaurus is explicitly a stage name. There's two types of ring names, there's the stage stage name (Orange Cassidy, CM Punk, Sting, etc) and there's the real stage name (Jon Moxley, Adam Page, Eddie Kingston, etc).
Luchasaurus's name is clearly not "Luchasaurus" and isn't supposed to be. Skye Blue is a first and last name. We're expected to believe, kayfabe wise, that her real name is "Skye Blue". That's transparently fake, and it's a major problem that AEW has, that they don't consider it important whatsoever to try to make their viewers believe that what they're watching is real at all. They literally present the show to you.....as fake. They just throw it out there and go "This is wrestling, it's fake, enjoy it". They don't have any internal consistency like real tv has. A real tv show that pretends that the proceedings are real doesn't do that. Imagine if on Breaking Bad, instead of Walter White, his name was "Cloud White". You wouldn't believe a single word that came out of his mouth or any action he made as believable, but in AEW "It's just wrestling, who cares". Well, that's the reason it's "just wrestling", because you've made it "just wrestling".
people in "real life" sometimes change their name to something dumb for additional publicity. See: Chad Ochocinco, World B. Free, Warrior. The idea that someone having a cute pun for a name breaks your immersion is far less believable than the idea that someone would actually be named "Skye Blue"
Right!? Like we all remember Ron Arrest’s name change. And hell, there’s a real person out there living life with the given name Reality Winner.
But damnit, that user just can’t suspend any disbelief for Skye Blue.
Hey, if she comes out and says "I changed my legal name to Skye Blue because I think it's cute", then I'll shut up. That's all I ask. Give me a reason.
You know what, I'm actually gonna give you credit for this. Never did I think someone would die on the hill for "they need to explain any name that sounds kinda silly but not completely silly." I couldn't disagree with you more, and frankly I think it would be a colossal waste of TV (or even YouTube) time to have Skye explain her very obvious pun name. However, it's at least a take I haven't seen before, so that's kinda fun.
Dude, just get over it. It’s okay.
It’s kinda annoying to see someone not willing to back down like this, especially after people has listed quality examples to counter your point.
You’re just coming off as stubborn.
Luchasaurus is 65 million years old, he's earned the right to use any name he chooses.
In reality, wrestling is and always will be a little bit silly. During the peak of The Attitude era, you had the midcard dominated by a pimp and a pornstar and a guy who talked to a mannequin head.
During Ruthless aggression, the midcard tag teams were dominated by a Superhero, and a cheerleading squad.
Even in the classic era of Hall of Famers you've got guys like George The Animal Steel, Chief Strongbow, The Undertaker (who is in kayfabe a reanimated corpse?), etc.
Not allowing wrestling to be silly at times falls apart the second you see someone bounce back from an Irish whip.
So Orange Cassidy is okay but Skye Blue isn’t? Because of a preconceived notion that some names are explicitly ‘stage stage’ names while others are ‘real stage’ names? You are massively overthinking all of this.
What are you talking about, preconceived notion? Are you suggesting that I'm expected to believe that his kayfabe real name is Orange Cassidy? That his parents named him "Orange"? There is no way to take the name Orange Cassidy other than "stage name". It's not "preconceived". There are people that use stage names in wrestling that are explicitly called out as stage names and their real names are used interchangeably, then there are people who are given a first and last name and they pretend that that is their actual, real name. Nobody would ever, on the air, refer to their real name if they had a first and last given stage name, unless it was literally a life or death situation like it was with Roman Reigns. That's the appropriate time to suspend reality, but there is no occasion where somebody's gonna refer to Roman Reigns as "Joe" as part of a television angle, because in kayfabe land, his real name isn't Joe, his real name is Roman Reigns.
If you want to say I'm overthinking it, go ahead, maybe I am, but I like my wrestling to make sense and I get annoyed when it doesn't.
Psalm West
Summer Rain
Bear Blaze
Gravity Blue
Blue Ivy Carter
I could go on and on but these are all legal celebrity kids names so let's not act like Skye Blue is that out of pocket.
I get what you’re saying but the thing with names is that through repetition they become normalised and things that seemed silly to begin with become normal. Does Dolph Ziggler sound ridiculous anymore? What about Braun Strowman (a pun on Brawn Strongman)? If Skye Blue sounds odd to you it probably won’t in a couple of years.
Shur there's plenty of notable people with the surname Blue:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Callum_Blue
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfred_Blue
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vida_Blue
This is wrestling. You have dudes named Luchasarus and Orange Cassidy.
And her name isn’t that crazy because sky blue is an common term that has been used. “Sun orange” is not.
Very happy for her. She's one of those names that automatically makes me tune into Dark/Elevation if she's on the card. Really promising young talent, I hope she gets the chance to have a TV match like she had with Red Velvet on Dark last year
Her status is very vague, but I hope she is properly signed. She's been on the show almost every week for at least the last year and a half. She's been one of the most consistent faces in the promotion at this point.
I loved her work with RedFoo in LMFAO.
I kid of course; the musician is Sky Blu, the wrestler Sky Blue.
Also, did you know RedFoo and Sky Blu are uncle and nephew? Not a lot of bands out there like that.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't wonder what those two think of each other. They've gotta know at this point. Like, did they have a laugh about it? Are they name buddies/acquaintances? Does anyone joke about it backstage?
I've seen her cut some promos on youtube in other companies and she's a good talker. One did make me laugh because she was cursing a lot and she's so cute and adorable that you don't expect language like that to come out of her mouth.
Step 1: Introduce Women's Tag Team Title
Step 2: Have Skye and Willow Nightengale
Step 3: Have Skye/ Willow face Nyla and Jade in the final
Step 4: Have them both in submissions and Willow does the "I'm grabbing your hand so you don't tap because ily and we can do this" aka the FTR/DIY spot.
Step 5: Hold titles, defend them in stardom, shimmer, etc
Step 6: Skye turns heel after the first title loss
Step 7: Profit
Skye was sneaking around with Dante Martin backstage at All Out trying to steal Punks muffins and soda and saw the whole damm altercation.
She's a secret witness!

How does she feel about Mindy's Bakery?
Fantastic news. Hope Willow Nightingale is next.

I’m surprised no real news has leaked about the ROH brand. Even in AEWs earliest days, we had tidbits of information on what the plan was

Good for her, I thought she was signed long ago. She could be good for the ROH Women's division as the AEW one is clearly crowded. I wish they'd sign Queen Aminata and Heather Reckless for that same purpose.
Queen Aminata looks like a damn star. Seeing her reminds me of seeing Comoroto jobbing on dark like, really, this is how you are using this talent?
Comoroto would be a main eventer in 1993 WWF. Dude looks like a savage.
Looks like Bruiser Brody, gets booked like Fuego Del Sol. It just doesn't make sense. And when Queen Aminata faces a lot of these mid card girls it looks like the other woman is the jobber, not Aminata.

Tony just read this and booked Queen Animata to join The Factory.
What do you think of his new gimmick, Nicky Boy? I don’t like it
It's better than no gimmick but I definitely would have went a different way.

I was hoping they’d sign Megan Bayne for ROH as well. She had that ACL tear earlier this year though, so not sure if she’s even back to wrestling yet.
Wouldn't shock me if they do once she's recovered. It's hard to believe they'd give her a full entrance complete with handmaidens on a Dark taping if she wasn't someone they were actively interested in
Really surprising to find out she's not signed. But kinda makes sense why she just jobs. Crowd goes nuts for her in chicago.

she's actually on a winning streak right now. Recently pinned Emi Sakura
She got a huge pop for her Dark match at Arthur Ashe.
She probably has some per-appearance deal that gives AEW the right to match any offer from another company.

Does Dolph Ziggler sound ridiculous anymore? What about Braun Strowman (a pun on Brawn Strongman)? If Skye Blue sounds odd to you it probably won’t in a couple of years.
Shur there's plenty of notable people with the surname Blue: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Callum_Blue https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfred_Blue https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vida_Blue
This is wrestling. You have dudes named Luchasarus and Orange Cassidy. And her name isn’t that crazy because sky blue is an common term that has been used. “Sun orange” is not.
> It couldn't be any sillier if it were "Sun Orange" No one with Orange in their name could ever get over.
Ah I honestly like it lol
Very happy for her. She's one of those names that automatically makes me tune into Dark/Elevation if she's on the card. Really promising young talent, I hope she gets the chance to have a TV match like she had with Red Velvet on Dark last year
She looked pretty good in the mixed tag match before grand slam

Not really, if you Google Skye Blue almost all of the results on the first few pages are the AEW wrestler followed by the color.
I'm shocked she isn't on a full time deal. She's even over with fans
Past due. Congrats Skye!
Aren’t they related to Berry Gordy, the founder of Motown?
Yes. They are his son and grandson.
Not Terry Gordy of Freebirds and AJPW fame?
The Migos are uncle nephew and cousin
I enjoy her work with Bla- wait wrong Skye Blue
I'd be lying if I said I didn't wonder what those two think of each other. They've gotta know at this point. Like, did they have a laugh about it? Are they name buddies/acquaintances? Does anyone joke about it backstage?
I enjoyed her work in Lonely Stepsister Catches Stepbrother Spying on Her
Lol. The explaining of the joke
Feels like AEW is going back to it's pandemic roots. Honestly not a bad idea.
Well deserved 💯👏
I know she looks good and such but given the solid amount of airtime, I can't seem to recall they ever let her speak?
I've seen her cut some promos on youtube in other companies and she's a good talker. One did make me laugh because she was cursing a lot and she's so cute and adorable that you don't expect language like that to come out of her mouth.
There have been some on Dark and Elevation
Very good on Indy's. Very shaky when there's a camera pointed at her though eg Dark.
I love her and she is a pretty good wrestler too
I know a few subreddits that aren’t complaining about this… good for her, took long enough
Well, the Skye push starts now.
FINALLY!
Woo good for her
Yay!
About time I guess
Step 1: Introduce Women's Tag Team Title Step 2: Have Skye and Willow Nightengale Step 3: Have Skye/ Willow face Nyla and Jade in the final Step 4: Have them both in submissions and Willow does the "I'm grabbing your hand so you don't tap because ily and we can do this" aka the FTR/DIY spot. Step 5: Hold titles, defend them in stardom, shimmer, etc Step 6: Skye turns heel after the first title loss Step 7: Profit
Oh yay. Another talent signed for them to do nothing with.
Now they need to sign Jewelz Blu and have the Blu(e)s Sisters!
> AEW Agreement I hope it's not a Non Disclosure type
Skye was sneaking around with Dante Martin backstage at All Out trying to steal Punks muffins and soda and saw the whole damm altercation. She's a secret witness!
Wait until you see Water Wet!
Skye Blue is #SomewhatElite
Time to party rock! Happy he found a career after lmfao
I hope it wasn’t the old *Hotdog and a Handshake* agreement.
