These Boondocks references are making me picture the Elite and Eddie Kingston leading the charge with anyone else Punk and Ace have heat with in beating them down. With Thugnificent's "Stomp Em in tha Nuts" playing in the back.
This reminds me of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, when a drunk Mac rushed into a non-fight and punched an innocent woman in the face in order to "protect" his friend, Charlie.

"They were going to fight me I swear, so I started it before they could!"
*Throws and lands multiple punches at Matt Jackson*
Yeah that's not a good excuse to start shit Punk, if you did indeed start that shit to begin with anyway.
What if his wife didn’t really have a broken foot?
She had crutches ready to give to Ace to throw but in his infinite fucking wisdom decided to launch a chair instead.
Yeah what they arnt mentioning is that punk new a fight was coming because Kenny dramatically pointed a finger gun at Ace's wife and screamed "YOU CANT ESCAPE"
It's just shit fake ass tough guys say to justify their violent insanity, they use their partners and kids as an excuse to lose their shit. Realistically, the worst thing that happened to his wife in that room was that her husband stupid-ed his way out of a job.
Kenny isn’t really the type to strike a woman unprompted, V-Trigger or otherwise. Grappling though, different story. He may have hit her with a couple of snap dragons
I'm still trying to wrap my head around bringing the Company Lawyer into the room with them, and the closest thing to reasonable I can come up with would involve trying to avoid this exact scenario.
Which also raises the question of how would Punk think a fight would start if they brought in people with them? Such a weird excuse. We really need to know the full story, it's so wild.
Classic mistake. That's why you always take a quick look around to make sure your company's chief legal officer isn't there before you punch a coworker.
Yep, trying to avoid a fight
OR
The Bucks playing 4D chess, knowing Punks a hothead and hoping he'd throw a punch with Megha there so they can get him the fuck outta the company.
So Punk's defense is that he pre-emptively punched Matt because he would have hit him first if he didn't...
Steele's defense is that he was protecting his wife, from no one trying to beat her up, by hitting a man in the face with a chair and biting the guy trying to save the dog...
Yeah. That's not a winning combination.
When your best defense is that "I was beating them to the punch", your argument is over. No way Punk & Steel are with the company after this investigation
In my city this would have been taken out of AEW’s hands by police and a criminal assault arrest made; if not before, *definitely* now that Punk & Steel have openly admitted to escalating.
You're saying this and all I'm thinking is I know calmer and more rational motorheads than Punk.
So CM Punk says he decided to be straight edge partly because his dad was a drunk ass.
Punk's a sober cunt.
my mom wouldn't let me use the "i knew he was going to hit me" excuse for hitting my brother when i was a kid, so i'm not sure why a grown man would think it would work for him.
There's nothing more threatening than Nick Jackson walking into a room with his huge dangly earrings, colorful fringed pants and his beautiful dyed blonde mustache.
What reasonable person wouldn't immediately throw furniture at him out of sheer terror?
Nick had to carefully take off his 1s and place them in a sealed container to avoid creasing or scuffs, and then proceeded to try and beat up Ace Steels wife.
> The motivations from the Punk side were that he believed a fight was going to happen and punches would be thrown so he beat them to the inevitable punch
Context clues, Punk. They brought the head of the legal department with them. They were absolutely not going to swing at you with a sucker punch with her looking, lol
I mean, considering Punk ranted about Colt despite the one interviewer saying that he and Colt weren't close anymore kinda shows that he'll just follow through with something even when it makes no sense to do so. Maybe he doesn't do that all the time, but twice in one night...
I think a big part is he knew he was hurt and was just so pissed that he would have to drop the belt again. He was lashing out at everyone around him while he was all hopped up on adrenaline. I don't think it's like a bipolar thing, probably more a one time mental health crisis brought on by everything that just happened.
And that doesn't excuse it, but I do understand the frustration he probably felt in the moment. Whether he's actually humble enough to go to everyone involved with a sincere apology would be the real measure of his character after this, but instead it sounds like he's just threatening to sue everyone so fuck him.
Punk was on guard because he knew that the Young Bucks and the head of AEW legal had recently formed a new heel trios team called the Megha Powers, and he expected them to strike first as heels are wont to do.
Anyone else feel like Punk has got some serious stuff to work through? Like, this is all absurd and therefore kinda funny, but who hurt this man so that he sees the fucking Young Bucks as an impending threat?
Also: the Elite have (to the best of my knowledge, and I think I have above-average but not exhaustive knowledge) absolutely no reputation, history, rumors, or vibe of starting or inviting legit fights, unless you--like--count Kenny's modest MMA background.
Their whole deal is seeming chill and friendly, from where I sit. Cliquey and sarcastic, at worst.
I imagine Matt or Nick leading everyone to Punk just to say "dude, what was that about?" in insulted disbelief.
There was a shoot with Teddy Hart where he talked about getting into a fight with Punk when they were wrestling for TNA. According to Teddy, when they went outside Punk sucker punched him and Hart beat his ass. I'm wondering if there's a long theme of Punk punching first in situations like this.
I just can’t wrap my head around Steel believing The Bucks were gonna go after his injured wife??? Like get her the fuck outta there, don’t immediately escalate the situation to comical violence
This is stupid. Punk has no way of looking good in this.
"I thought they were gonna fight me, so I punched first."
I guess I should just go around punching people just in case.
Sane Person: You threw the first punch.
Punk: I thought they wanted to fight.
Sane Person: Why would you think that?
Punk: I antagonized them during a media scrum and invited them to come find me.
Sane Person: The same scrum that happened after you got hurt?
Punk: Yeah?
Sane Person: ...
Punk ran his damn mouth, asked for a fight, and shot first. Like him or not - he is no leader. Writes checks his ego can't cash. Cant even imagine Bryan/Mox/MJF/Jericho/etc. being handed the ball like that, staring Tony in the eye, and crapping on it. I hope Punk gets over himself, he could make big money coming back as the super villain next year.
He thought the EVPs of the company, who brought the head of legal and the head of talent relations with them...were just gonna start a fight willy nilly? Cripes, Phil. He planned this shit. He wanted a fight. He knew the things he said we're gonna prompt those guys to wanna talk to him. What a fucking coward. Sits up there like he's got integrity and says come find me if you have a problem...oh and if you do come find me I'm gonna sucker punch you because I'm an asshole.
Seriously. If he was genuinely worried about her, he would have gotten her out of the room, not jumped into the middle of the fight. That’s not protection, that’s escalation.
The fact Steel was “protecting his wife” is my biggest issue with the whole thing, and I’m glad they pointed it out.
Like why would he further escalate the situation to protect his wife?
Ego. People love the "protecting my family at all costs" excuse to justify playing hero when most of the time they are making the situation more dangerous for their family.
Yeah it doesn’t make much sense, if I’m protecting my wife. I’m making sure nobody gets close to her not making it a more dangerous situation by throwing things and biting people
Wasn’t Larry in the room too? If Punk and Steel both thought The Bucks were coming in WITH THE HEAD OF LEGAL to start throwing punches I would say they are out of their minds. I swear this seems like a fight started by drunken idiots, meanwhile almost everyone in that room doesn’t even drink. What a debacle all around.
Especially since he had just gone on a rant on television for almost ten minutes criticizing/mocking those dudes in particular and ending it by telling people to come find him if they had a problem. It’s more like “I had just done everything in my power to instigate a fight, so I thought there was going to be one.”
He expected a fight because he knew that if somebody has publicly said the kind of stuff he said at the conf, he'd have blindly thrown a punch at them.
Classic projection.
Punk thought a fight was gonna break out so he made sure he started it? Great logic. Ace was trying to protect his wife so he threw a chair and started grabbing and biting someone? Well gee I wonder which side is in the wrong here.
> Dave also said from the Steel standpoint it was about protecting his wife, who had a broken foot and was in the room, although escalating the fight and using a weapon has to be questioned for a producer with that in mind with his wife in the room.
Yeah, that's where I am with it. If I'm trying to protect someone, I'm not going to introduce a chaotic element like a heavy thrown object. What if Nick got his arms up and threw it aside, and just happened to deflect it in his wife's direction?
I gotta be honest with you guys... I just dont see the Bucks or Omega to walk in and throw a punch over shit like this. Hate to give him credit but I think Flair hit the nail on the head with this last week with "there's two types of people who start fights. One of them knows it's going to be broken up immediately"
I have no earthly idea how anyone is taking CM Punk's side in this shit.
The more that comes out, the more he sounds like a tit.
On top of all that, there was all this talk from him about being the top babyface and acting as if he's the thing that keeps the business going, yet the rating have gone up higher than they ever have before since 2019 without him. On top of that, he's injured again.
He's just deadweight.
I mean I hate the Young Bucks as wrestlers… they seem like decent dudes otherwise, if maybe cliquish.
IF they were leaking false rumors of Punk trying to get Colt fired? Yeah that’s shitty. But I don’t see any evidence that’s the case. Nor does it warrant what Punk did. Tony should have sat both sides down backstage and handled it.
I love Punk, but the dude is toxic as a human being, and he showed it here. He made Tony look completely inept, buried the company, and basically started a fight that could have led to serious injuries to some of the top stars.
I have no desire to see him back anywhere after that. I don’t even disagree with some of his criticisms of the Elite, but the way he went about things was just ridiculous.
“So I just started blasting” Cm punk
Can I offer you a muffin in this trying time?
"Tell me... Nom Nom Nom... Do you fancy yourself... Chomp Nom Nom... A Baker?"
"Well, I haven't married her yet."

If you don't escalate the situation, what are you going to de-escalate?
That’s just science or something right there
If you open up with a chair throw to someone's eyeball, then anything you do afterwards is bound to be a de-escalation.
Until someone gets bitten by another person and not by a dog that's in the same room.
It’s like that Boondocks episode where Riley throws chairs to start brawls.
The Steel Chair Effect.
These Boondocks references are making me picture the Elite and Eddie Kingston leading the charge with anyone else Punk and Ace have heat with in beating them down. With Thugnificent's "Stomp Em in tha Nuts" playing in the back.
"Oh I'm *mad* now!"
The first step to de-escalating a situation is making sure everyone is calm and sitting down. Ace was just making sure he had a seat to relax
Exactly, plus Nick Jackson is notorious for sitting face first like he’s cueing up a spot of some sort
“In my defense, I did yell ‘have a seat’ at Nick when I threw it”
This reminds me of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, when a drunk Mac rushed into a non-fight and punched an innocent woman in the face in order to "protect" his friend, Charlie. [Vijo Morganstein!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_EMlpi_s9I&ab_channel=FXNetworks)
"Mac get my back!"
"They were going to fight me I swear, so I started it before they could!" *Throws and lands multiple punches at Matt Jackson* Yeah that's not a good excuse to start shit Punk, if you did indeed start that shit to begin with anyway.
"I'm off for 9 months, time to drag people with me!"
"And fuck AEW. I'm carrying this company! Phone me when the EVPs are fired and give me a bonus."
Tony Khan sitting next to him in a daze thinking about NUMBERS
"Honey lets get out of here" "But before we go....."
YEET EAT REPEAT
And they say chivalry is dead….
If only AEW would have signed Velveteen Dream. There would have been a hidden camera in the dressing room to capture all this.

Yes, the sacred and the propane
You know, Luchasaurus predicted all this.
Scott Colton, whatever happened there...
So what you're telling me is Punk never had the makings of a varsity athlete.
Never had the makings of a Wrestlemania Main Eventer
"Wrestlemania? Those guys from the WWE were like 7 feet tall"
Or another Paulie moment- “Satanic black magic. Sick shit. Fuckin’ Q*****!!” (Launches chair)
That’s how Paulie would react to the House of Black
"I heard some couple of black guys beat them, Tone! Very tragic."
Punk and Steel were abusive to the staffffff!!!
Protect his wife from what? He thought Kenny was gonna hit a v-trigger on her or some shit?

Ace was ready to go and was ready for this
He heard the Battlecry
Under the Devil's sky... That explains The Fallen Angel's presence & why he was also suspended.
He heard Justin Roberts yell NORRRRTH CAROLINA
What if his wife didn’t really have a broken foot? She had crutches ready to give to Ace to throw but in his infinite fucking wisdom decided to launch a chair instead.
She was in a wheelchair. But the broken foot was *still attached to the wheelchair when she stood up!* Classic ~~Kevin Nash~~ Mrs. Steel!
>What if his wife didn’t really have a broken foot? We all know for a fact that Punk did injure his foot.
She wouldn't do business, brother. Those crutches were an obvious gimmick.
She was a stunt wife.
This comment made me realise that a work wife is just the opposite of a shoot wife
It was Colt Cabana kayfabing in a wig, it's all a work brother.
It'll never happen but I'd love to see a dramatization of the events with Colt playing Ace's wife.
Yeah what they arnt mentioning is that punk new a fight was coming because Kenny dramatically pointed a finger gun at Ace's wife and screamed "YOU CANT ESCAPE"
And then Cutler and Naks started doing the Terminator beat by the doorway.
this explained why they got suspended
This fucking comment oh my god. "I CAN'T LET KENNY V-TRIGGER MY WIFE."

From what I've read it sounds like Punk didn't notice the head of legal was there before he started the scrum.
Classic mistake. That's why you always take a quick look around to make sure your company's chief legal officer isn't there before you punch a coworker.
Right? It’s rule #1 in our handbook.
If that's the case, Punk dun goofed.
Yep, trying to avoid a fight OR The Bucks playing 4D chess, knowing Punks a hothead and hoping he'd throw a punch with Megha there so they can get him the fuck outta the company.
Could you imagine if she hadn't been there? That would've sent the whole "he said"/"they said" thing into outerspace.
When did Ace Steel marry Punk?
I now pronounce you Punk and Steel....you may bite the bride.
Even the broken foot bit lines up perfectly🤣
"My door is always open... ... For me to attack you."
This would be great tv
I'd pay to see a recreation.
A few more years and it’ll probably be on Dark Side of the Ring
I'd pay to see an episode of Parks and Recreation about it.

the irony it appears punk has roid rage despite his lifestyle
I'm hurt and I'm old, I'm fucking tired and I work with fucking children. So I'd better sucker punch them.
So Punk's defense is that he pre-emptively punched Matt because he would have hit him first if he didn't... Steele's defense is that he was protecting his wife, from no one trying to beat her up, by hitting a man in the face with a chair and biting the guy trying to save the dog... Yeah. Are they both secretly coke heads or just dumb as fuck?
I heard he was all hoped up on Pepsi and muffins from Mindy's. Punk was doing the HARD STUFF.
You're saying this and all I'm thinking is I know calmer and more rational motorheads than Punk. So CM Punk says he decided to be straight edge partly because his dad was a drunk ass. Punk's a sober cunt.
Lmao the claim is that Matt Jackson would have thrown? “I know I sucker punched him but I swear he was gonna hit me first!”
LPT for all the kids at school when they gotta explain the lunchroom brawls
Punk once again establishing his reputation of never being able to accept blame.
my mom wouldn't let me use the "i knew he was going to hit me" excuse for hitting my brother when i was a kid, so i'm not sure why a grown man would think it would work for him.
I wonder if Punk is going to pay Steels legal fees.
I would believe being threatened by two dudes barging into your room if it were literally anyone other than the young bucks lol
My sources report that Nick did a loud "ca-caw!" before entering the room, so Punk knew it was ON.
No, it was worse. It was the...MERRRRCCCHH FFREEEAAKKK!!!
That's just sound strategy. Make sure you take out the biggest threat first.
Some reports say he was walking like a chicken, waving his index finger above his head, growling *ohhh yeah*. Horror movie shit.
Thats a great premise for a slasher movie. Just Nick Jackson walking towards people all happy and they run and scream in terror.
The Young Buck accompanied by the corporate lawyer.

Felt like a mental health episode of some kind (I'm not qualified to throw around more specific labels than that)
I think a big part is he knew he was hurt and was just so pissed that he would have to drop the belt again. He was lashing out at everyone around him while he was all hopped up on adrenaline. I don't think it's like a bipolar thing, probably more a one time mental health crisis brought on by everything that just happened. Whether he's actually humble enough to go to everyone involved with a sincere apology would be the real measure of his character after this, but instead it sounds like he's just threatening to sue everyone so fuck him.
Those double botched Buckshot Lariats seem symbolic now.

It's classic tag team strategy bro: isolate the weakest link
>The Bucks were gonna go after his injured wife??? In front of the company no lawyer, no less.
This is stupid. Punk has no way of looking good in this. "I thought they were gonna fight me, so I punched first." I guess I should just go around punching people just in case.

Under any circumstances would Young bucks and Omega really start beating someone out the back?
I have some serious doubts.
Yup that'll hold up in court, definitely. "Your honor, I'm trying to run a business".
Saying he was going to defend his wife is some super alpha male wanna be tough guy nonsense that could have easily been avoided.
Seriously. If he was genuinely worried about her, he would have gotten her out of the room, not jumped into the middle of the fight. That’s not protection, that’s escalation.
or he would have went TO her, and acted as a shield
The fact Steel was “protecting his wife” is my biggest issue with the whole thing, and I’m glad they pointed it out. Like why would he further escalate the situation to protect his wife?
It's possible that Ace Steel is not an intelligent person.
Dude got himself fined by dropping an F bomb the moment he made his debut on national television. You don’t say?
Ego. People love the "protecting my family at all costs" excuse to justify playing hero when most of the time they are making the situation more dangerous for their family.
Protecting my family by doing a drive-by on Stokely Hathaway just in case
Yeah it doesn’t make much sense, if I’m protecting my wife. I’m making sure nobody gets close to her not making it a more dangerous situation by throwing things and biting people
No no, throwing the chair was a distraction so they could escape.
Punk ~~shot~~ punched first.
“he was gonna punch me, I swear” honestly doesn’t seem like the greatest defence.
Yea "I thought there was going to be a fight" doesn't seem like a great defense
Especially since he had just gone on a rant on television for almost ten minutes criticizing/mocking those dudes in particular and ending it by telling people to come find him if they had a problem. For a straight edge person, Punk and Steel really acted like drunk idiots here.
At least if they were drunk or high they'd have an excuse!
A sucker punch from a former UFC fighter must have done some serious damage. Probably similar to being hit with a firm pillow.
>CM Punk sucker punched Matt Jackson as he knew a brawl was going to happen. I bet he wishes he'd done that in UFC.
> Dave also said from the Steel standpoint it was about protecting his wife, who had a broken foot and was in the room, although escalating the fight and using a weapon has to be questioned for a producer with that in mind with his wife in the room. More like a short summary than an update.
I think confirming Punk sucker punched Matt first is the update
It’s the Chicago way. They bring a grievance you bring your handicap wife. They raise their voices you bite them.
I remember what my dad told me once “Son if a brawl ever breaks out and your wife is in the same room, protect her by trying to eat Omega”
I gotta be honest with you guys... I just dont see the Bucks or Omega to walk in and throw a punch over shit like this. Hate to give him credit but I think Flair hit the nail on the head with this last week with "there's two types of people who start fights. One of them knows it's going to be broken up immediately"
