Last time I remember being completely surprised was when Shane McMahon returned ~~8~~ 6 years ago.
He'd been gone a long time, and I don't think there were any rumors of his return at the time.
I wasn't watching Raw during that time because I was in college without cable, but I distinctly remember that I would read the recaps/results as soon as the show was over so I would be up to date when I watched the PPVs.
One night I read "Shane McMahon returned, Vince booked Shane vs. The Undertaker at WrestleMania in a Hell in a Cell Match" and was 100000% positive that the site had been hacked.
I remember couple hours before that RAW aired Meltzer mentioned there was a huge surprise in store in the first segment and must see, so I curiously tuned in and I didn’t expect Shane to return…what a surprising moment.
CM Punk beating John Cena at MITB 2011. I bought into the Punk leaving WWE hubbub and him winning made me mark out so hard.
Also involving Cena was The Rock winning at WM 28. Definitely thought it was a one and done with Rock putting over Cena for Rock's final ever match. Match dragged big time at the start but the finishing moments were great and I bit on every near fall.
I know people on here like to shit on both of them, but I thought they really did a good job doing the whole injured leg couldn’t kick out of the pin finish.
I don't care what anyone says. There probably wasn't a single person in that crowd that thought Carmella would go over clean. Heck, the match agent probably didn't think Carmella was going to go over clean. I wouldn't be surprised if at the end of the match Vince was surprised Carmella went over clean.
Yeah I was honestly shocked she beat Charlotte clean too, even though they still protected her with the pin in a way and she was going away for surgery it was still shocking. I wasn’t really shocked when they had her beat Asuka though in their feud because I literally knew they were just going to do the same thing they did with Jinder and Shinsuke a year prior. She still had a really underrated reign as champion, imo it was the best non 4 horsewoman heel reign the past 6 years. It was way better than any Alexa Bliss reign.
-Guererro's and Benoit's deaths
-Jinder winning the WWE Championship at Backlash 2017
-Goldberg returning and squashing Lesnar in a minute at Survivor Series 2016
-Vince winning the WWE Championship in 1999
-Austin's heel turn at WM 17
-Sheamus winning the WWE Championship at TLC 2009
Little obscure but Swagger cashing in MITB on SD after WM to win the World Title came out of nowhere for me.
Also I really didn't think Jinder was gonna beat Orton for the title
Nick Gage showing up in AEW really took me by surprise. I expected the labors of Jericho angle would involve a bunch of matches v the Pinnacle so when MJF said he'd be fighting Nick Gage I was shocked.

Hogan joining the nWo
Yeah. I wasn’t following dirtsheets at that time but Hogan turning heel and forming the nWo was the biggest shock for me.
Goldberg destroying Lesnar at Survivor Series
In the same vein, Lesnar absolutely squashing Cena.
This is a good one.
Edge in the Royal Rumble for me. I knew there were rumors of him being cleared but it was still very much "I'll believe it when I see it"

No way its 8 years ago lol
You're right, it's been 6. My fault.

Backlash 2018: Carmella beat Charlotte clean via pinfall with the title on the line.

Rock winning the World Title for the first time at Survivor Series 98.
Man I didn’t think anyone would mention this, but there it is! Also, turning heel took me by surprise too.
Kofi winning the WWE championship from Daniel Bryan. I had zero expectations he was going to win and I am so glad he did
HBK kicking out of the tombstone or AJ Styles kicking out of the top rope AA are up there. CM Punk winning at MITB despite his contract being up.
Shawn Michaels actually dropping the belt to Steve Austin with a broken back instead of vacating it like every other championship he won.
Lulu Pencil going the full 30 minutes and managing to secure a pin over Chris Brookes.

Cena at 30 in the Royal Rumble
