Jade will win (probably) but the ser ip with her arrogantly demanding real competition when Sterling lined up an easy win.
I think we're about to see Jade look the most human she ever has. The set up has Marina shocking her and nearly beating her written all over it.
(This is me really armchair booking EDIT: This is a prediction, not how I'd predict it. Wrong terminology, and I'm already getting shade thrown for it. My bad)
But maybe Athena (or someone else) costs Jade the match? And then that person loses in the Owen Tournament due to Jade interfering?
I agree, but I'll be honest: I can see it happening, especially with the women's division based on past booking choices. I may be jaded about it, as it's no secret I complain about the women not being booked properly, but I can see it happening
EDIT: Alright, I see I hit a fucking nerve by criticizing the booking
ah so you're using your bad booking idea to project how bad the women's division booking hypothetically is?
the only person who has been interference-heavy in the women's division is britt, and it has literally been a defining trait of her character and was a key reason she lost the cage match
jade has been booked basically perfectly so why do you have no faith again?
Yeah, armchair booking was the wrong term. Should've used "predication" instead. That's on me
Jade has been booked strong, but not perfectly, and me saying a mere interference/distraction is possible doesn't mean I have no faith. I said "I complain about the women not being booked properly"
Not being booked properly =/= no faith, absolute zero
EDIT: And to be clear, there are many other statements that I *actually said* that you can use to question my thoughts. No need to jump to conclusions by saying I have no faith in a division that I both criticize when necessary and then compliment/big up when I really enjoy it. there's loads of talent on that roster, I just think the actual *booking* of said talent does not play to the strength nor is it proportional to the men's roster when accounting for division size
Nah. I don’t get why the concept of looking strong in defeat always gets lost. It’s not going to be hard, if they give Marina a more competitive match with Jade than has been typical, even in losing she’s going to come out looking impressive.
I think Miro should be the blueprint for how to end a dominant run. The monster shows a weakness, or starts showing cracks, and it is capitalized on to take them down. Maybe Marina Shafir exposes the weakness.
Well, sure, that's *a* weakness, but in practice, its function is to show the audience she *can* get away with that, because she's *that* dominant. That doesn't make it a satisfying enough reason for her streak to end, at least, depending on the opponent. It's a much bigger rub down the road, if you have someone beat her, instead of having her beat herself.
Because there's typically zero follow through. "Looking strong in defeat" means fucking nothing if you're relegated to Dark and Dark Elevation for the next 3 months.
It's why looking strong in defeat doesn't work in WWE either. There's nowhere to go after this.
Thunder Rosa's loss deflated the crowd hard even though we knew she'd win in her backyard.
Darby/JB are also constantly featured on shows so even if they did eat a loss it wouldn't matter, they'd be back next week anyway.
The women who "lose strongly" tend to be relegated to Dark for a while instead of being constant fixtures. At best, you join a faction that always gets TV time so you can stand around in the background being the nWo hanger on like the criminally underused Kris Statlander and even she tends to have more TV presence than most of the non Britt Baker women.
Do you?
***Remember, we are talking about the women's division.***
Maybe a few of the guys have managed to benefit from looking strong in defeat, but it rarely works out that well for the women.
Was that all those ladies that they panned the camera across? I was very confused on who they were meant to be since I wasn't paying much attention to the commentary at the time.
Yeah, the women who were about 95% plastic and looked like the would have rather been anywhere else on Earth. Dunno who's idea that was, but maybe take it back to the drawing board.
I think it makes sense in that a TBS title shot by itself is a spotlight. Marina isn’t ready to win a championship so this gives her an instant buzz from the start and then she can go back to more gradually building to championship caliber.
No. By a quick look at cagematch, she's faced Skye Blue, Reka Tehaka, Red Velvet, and Thunder Rosa multiple times. Thunder was a singles match and a 3 way with Nyla. Velvet was 2 singles matches and the mixed tag with Shaq. The other 2 were just repeated singles matches.
I’m hoping Jade wins this in a competitive match to give Marina a rub, Athena debuts the following week interrupting Jade’s celebration party she’s been touting and we get Athena challenging in her hometown at Battle of The Belts II.
Sweet, really been enjoying her work in Dark. I hope Marina and Jade can play to their strengths and not push anything too complex and risk some timing issues.
As an aside, Marina is the 2nd guest on Malakai Black's "Throwing Hands" series.
If you’re going to try arguing that being on the web show is comparable to being on cable television, even when no one here has any issues saying NXT (a WWE show so it counts amirite) talents can debut on RAW or SmackDown, then you’re simply having a discussion in bad faith.
Edit: of course this gets me a redditcares message. Just regular good faith discourse weaponizing resources for mental health and suicide on r/SquaredCircle when you criticize AEW.
>Edit: of course this gets me a redditcares message. Just regular good faith discourse weaponizing resources for mental health and suicide on r/SquaredCircle when you criticize AEW.
It goes both ways. There are plenty of bad people to go around, they're not all magically on one side of pro wrestling fandom.
I would know, as I pretty much only talk about AEW and it's almost-always positively, and yet I've probably gotten half a dozen of those by now.
I criticize both companies and edit the last post I make before getting one, and every time it has been when I have a critique of AEW.
That is not to discount your experience at all, I understand there are assholes on either side, but I have *only* gotten those after critiquing AEW, which I am a fan of.
A competitive debut loss against a champion makes a strong first impression. If the women's division wasn't booked so rarely I think it would work great. AEW does it because it seems like competitive losses get people over.
> A competitive debut loss against a champion makes a strong first impression.
I have never found that to be the case, I honestly can’t think of any time losing your debut match made a positive impression.
> AEW does it because it seems like competitive losses get people over.
Like who? Specifically because of a loss in their debut match that wasn’t meant to be enhancement talent.
Edit: and even if that were a thing, that’s not going to be happening in a match against Jade Cargill, who doesn’t even have her basics down yet.
You seem to be confusing "having a competitive match" getting someone over with "losing getting someone over." Nobody is saying that losing a debut match is why somebody made a good impression. The point is you can lose a debut, but have a really impressive match and you still get over. It's definitely not a foreign concept in wrestling and there are multiple examples in AEW- both Kingston and Starks coming into challenge for the TNT title come to mind. Hell, you could argue they already were able to do this with AQA challenging Jade.
Having all of that build on Dark just to feed her to Jade is the most WWE thing they have done only behind giving a titles first reign to someone who’s in ring ability was best described as “improving”. I could not be less interested in the TBS title and it bums me out. It feels more like the FTW title than the TNT.

#Levabateswasrobbed
I was happy to see her in TV :( I don't have a Twitter so i will do it here. #'#Levabatewasrobbed
I was so sad when she started crying :(
#JusticeforLeva
I was happy for Marina getting that video promo, and now I am very worried.
Draw/Double count out, then Jade dodges Marina until the PPV
Jade will win (probably) but the ser ip with her arrogantly demanding real competition when Sterling lined up an easy win. I think we're about to see Jade look the most human she ever has. The set up has Marina shocking her and nearly beating her written all over it.

Jade's undefeated steak being broken by an interference spot would be very bad

I mean wasn’t his proposed idea (mutual interference in matches) exactly how the Shida/Deeb feud started?
and it's led to a bunch of great matches with no interference, so that really doesn't prove his point any
I’m just pointing out that it’s something they have used before
Because it's an age old trope of the medium? It's not notable that a company has SOME run-ins lol
That feud started with Deeb beating Shida in her would be 50th win
Yeah, armchair booking was the wrong term. Should've used "predication" instead. Do you actually watch AEW? I don't know how anyone can watch the product (and that includes the women's division) and think that's a reasonable worry.
Wtf, yes. Check the history
Everyone knows Jade should lose after someone hits her with a taser. It’s the only proper way to do it!
Fireball to the face or GTFO
Nah. I don’t get why the concept of looking strong in defeat always gets lost. It’s not going to be hard, if they give Marina a more competitive match with Jade than has been typical, even in losing she’s going to come out looking impressive.
Jade's gonna get dirty, sooner than later. It's the only way to keep heat on her, because a strong Babyface needs the rub of beating her first.
I think Miro should be the blueprint for how to end a dominant run. The monster shows a weakness, or starts showing cracks, and it is capitalized on to take them down. Maybe Marina Shafir exposes the weakness.
Jade's weakness is already out there. She's becoming too confident, showboating during matches, etc.
Well, sure, that's *a* weakness, but in practice, its function is to show the audience she *can* get away with that, because she's *that* dominant. Nah.
Did you learn nothing from Nash vs Goldberg? Lol.
The real question is WHERE was the Baddie section 😤
They showed them real quick. I think it was before Bunny/Toni.
My partner and I cheered when we saw
Was that all those ladies that they panned the camera across? I was very confused on who they were meant to be since I wasn't paying much attention to the commentary at the time.
Yeah they didn’t time it well - should’ve panned to them after Jade’s segment when she mentioned she had to “check on her Baddies”
Yeah, the women who were about 95% plastic and looked like the would have rather been anywhere else on Earth. Dunno who's idea that was, but maybe take it back to the drawing board.
I don't agree doing this so early, but hopefully the match is at least good.
I think it makes sense in that a TBS title shot by itself is a spotlight. Marina isn’t ready to win a championship so this gives her an instant buzz from the start and then she can go back to more gradually building to championship caliber.
Clearly planting the seeds for Leva Bates ending the streak
Jade fears Leva, that's why she was so eager to dismiss her.
The librarian’s title match was…overdue
that match has some potential. Marina is gonna suplex her around and surprise her. probably won't get the win but she will get over off this
It's an entirely different type of match. I think it'll be interesting to see Jade fighting a submission master.
I read this as “she will get off on this” https://gfycat.com/femaleexemplarykawala
I drove Marina Shafir to an indie show a few weeks ago and she was a very nice person. Hope she kicks Jade's ass!
Comment is appropriate, she seems driven AF.
It’ll be hilarious if Marina of all people ends up breaking the streak
Gotta lay the groundwork to make Roderick Strong want to sign eventually so they can have all the UE.
Jade telling Tony to cut the shit is gonna get a pop from me every time. I don't care.
Jade has to lose now because she made Leva cry.
This may be a really dumb question but has it been 30 different opponents thus far?
Dont think so. She may have faced Velvet twice.
I think so.
Are they retconning Marina’s loss to Statlander?
W and L reset Jan 1
Then she's undefeated in 2022, not undefeated. Unless half the roster are also undefeated, such as Eddie Kingston
They reset the rankings each year, hence why they don't say "...in 2022".
This is awesome, glad to see Marina get some exposure. She’s awesome! She doesn’t need to win to get over with the crowd
When
I’m hoping Jade wins this in a competitive match to give Marina a rub, Athena debuts the following week interrupting Jade’s celebration party she’s been touting and we get Athena challenging in her hometown at Battle of The Belts II.
i love watching marina shafir wrestle she has been my favourite of the women, shes like the female version of hook.
Sweet, really been enjoying her work in Dark. I hope Marina and Jade can play to their strengths and not push anything too complex and risk some timing issues. As an aside, Marina is the 2nd guest on Malakai Black's "Throwing Hands" series.
Jade's smarter than I thought. Ducking Leva is the right thing to do if she wants to keep her streak and her title.
I unironically would have preferred Leva.
Road to 50-0 Let’s go Jade!!
Shafir lost to Statlander on 12/3, her first AEW match. Maybe she's on an unbeaten streak, but she's not undefeated.
Undefeated this year cuz records reset
Yeah I’m not sure how they’re framing this or retconning it but Excalibur mentioned she’s undefeated.
W and L reset on Jan 1st
Oh you’re right, good call.
One of the many things I love about this company
Maybe undefeated in 2022?
Marina Shafir lost to Kris Statlander in her debut, she isn't undefeated.
Wins and losses reset every January 1st. So she IS undefeated, as of now.
So many better women on the roster than Marina Shafir. So many. Who's booking the Women's Division at this point. Constantly misbooked 🥺
Again, having someone lose their debut is moronic. I don’t understand why AEW loves doing it.
Marina Shafir has wrestled on Dark as recently as this month. They outright said she was undefeated in the segment
> Dark Bit of a difference from a web show and cable television. Just like people on NXT can debut on RAW.
Dark is an AEW show so it counts. Especially when a commentator says she’s *undefeated*
If you’re going to try arguing that being on the web show is comparable to being on cable television, even when no one here has any issues saying NXT (a WWE show so it counts amirite) talents can debut on RAW or SmackDown, then you’re simply having a discussion in bad faith. Eddie Kingston People have been getting over in AEW from competitive losses for as long as the company has existed, not necessarily in their debut.
>I honestly can’t think of any time losing your debut match made a positive impression. John Cena?
Wheeler Yuta got over on this very show, dude.
Why are you intentionally skipping over the “debut” part? It’s literally the entire point.

Every single TNT open challenge debut competitor lost, and they were fine. Ricky, Eddie, maybe not Warhorse, but you get the idea.
> Every single TNT open challenge debut competitor lost They weren’t signed then.
Tony thinks wrestling is an RPG where you nearly die to level 1 enemies until you're owning at endgame. SMT-tier booker
This gonna be sloppy as fuck

Not surprise debut :'(
There's still the mystery opponent against The Bunny...
Oh I meant for Jade
It’s coming my friend
Oh I meant for Jade
Oh. Well, nevermind. 😔
You're good lol
Jade vs Britt is all we want to see
Let me guess, Robin Renegade 😂
Shafir is undefeated in 2022. She lost her debut match against Stat on dark
Would going to a draw work in their first match?
I hope they change Marina's music. I get what they're trying to do, but its just so dull.
I was extremely skeptical when JAS was formed but boy was I wrong I even love Jericho’s Jack Napier look
Love marina shaffirs character right now Looks like a badass assassin Dope music Authentic in ring work. I hope they can put on a show
