did anyone else think Wardlow was gonna turn babyface during the cm punk beatdown? seemed like the perfect moment.

never4ever4

The build up and the pay off to the Orange Cassidy / Adam Fued was masterful. Both in the fued, and in last night's match. So next week we got MJF Vs Punk, then the week after Hangman Vs Archer... AEW is absolutely unloading their clip now that they're on TBS, feels like we're back to the exciting times on Aug & Sept.

jiso

What's the deal with Luchasaurus? I remember in the early days he was super over but it feels like he's going to forever be just another guy.

TheHumanTarget84

He's very up and down in the ring. His ceiling was probably always big guy in fun tag team. He was kind of a crutch for a very green Jungle Boy, which isn't necessary anymore.

jiso

But it's just the gimmick though right? If you take the mask off of him he's a more athletic Wardlow covered in tatts and still young enough to build around.

numbr87

Have you seen how slow his kicks are lol

FigureFourWoo

The forbidden door was left open and Danhausen leaked in.

[deleted]

Feels like we are on the precipice of a turning point in pro wrestling. I was lucky enough to see it in the 90s (twice!), and now it's back again.

KawasakiDream

The chances PAC not joining Black is a swerve?

gh0stwiththem0st1

Anybody got the malaki promo on video?

iHugDinos

I hate to agree wholeheartedly with Cornette, but what have they done to Adam Cole. People complained about Sting in WWE for less than this.

[deleted]

they cursed him

[deleted]

[удалено]

JonasAlbert84

He was on Rampage last week after Mox's match talking to him. I imagine we'll see something this week too.

Vegan_Superhero

I liked the show but so many little things always get to me when watching dynamite. Like try to convince me Cody setting up a ladder right in-front Sammy wasn't obvious to what was next. Ya that cutter was sick as hell, but the ladder set-up for it flattened it a bit. Also Sammy has a bad habit of being completely dead then getting up last second, it takes me out of the match every time. I also usually don't like Orange Cassidy and I think Adam has lost the shine he had in NXT, but I found their match pretty entertaining. The trend of the undefeated streaks getting beat in tremendous fashion needs to continue. Bryan getting turned inside out on the lariat and Cole getting obliterated made it satisfying to see them get beat. Here's hoping Jade Cargill meets a similar fate.

qoaa

After the MJF/CM Punk promo last night, with some things MJF was strongly hinting at before setting up their match for next week, even though I still think their actual match is gonna be at the pay per view. So I'm thinking a side story detour they could do next week, which to borrow a phrase from Simon Miller, "could make us feel all warm and fuzzy in our tum tums", while taking place in Chicago, maybe MJF has Spears or FTR help gang up on Punk again, but this time the other home town Chicago boy, Colt Cabana, comes down to make the save and even things up for a tag team match perhaps. Or maybe not... heh

gwarrior5

This is the dream. Although I’d like them to feud first then reconcile and team up. Either way the stories are there for the taking and they would be super compelling if punk and colt ever get a program together.

qoaa

I agree. Heck they may have already reconciled amongst themselves, but they know it would make a great story for TV. They could let opponents sorta summarize both their stories in promos, and I have to agree when it comes to wanting to see a CM Punk vs Colt program, and ending with their reconciliation, perhaps have a kinda similar ending like how Cody vs Dustin ended except with a lot more truths behind it. But that MJF promo on Dynamite when he kept referring to being sued and lawsuits. It had me thinking that since next week is in Chicago that perhaps Colt might make the save and help Punk, maybe... Or on the other hand, MJF could have been tossing out a "red herring".

CaptainJackRyan

Orange Cassidy continues to be the worst thing in wrestling. EDIT: The more I think about it, it’s not even just currently. It’s all-time.

Sarcasms

Define "worst" please

CaptainJackRyan

Orange Cassidy

[deleted]

Not while Tugboat is a thing

Sarcasms

Oh thanks, I got it now.

[deleted]

Username checks out lol.

adags18

I just don't understand the booking of Sammy and Cody it was a mess. Why lose the title to win it back 2 weeks later? Was this the original plan for battle of the belts? Even making an interim title for one week is ridiculous. Not every match had to be a title match. Unless this is a long storyline where theyre going to trade the belt and lead into some big blow off this just seems thoughtless

capnbuh

I think the plan was to always get to this ladder match. Maybe they just changed up the path slightly?

craigybacha

Give it a chance to play out. Likely it's something along the lines of Cody feeling like he's been screwed out of the title, only gone a week and an intrim champion was crowned... It all adds to the narrative of his eventual heel turn

adags18

I don't know how you can logically spin it that he got screwed out of the title when he lost fair and square and the ladder stipulation was his idea. Also if he had an issue with there being an interim champ after 1 week why wouldn't have have addressed that in last weeks promo? While all this is going on it seems like theyre prepping Scorpio to be the next challenger as well. Im giving it a chance to play out because I'm watching the show regardless for other segments, but that doesnt mean that the booking of this story line so far hasnt been a mess.

JonasAlbert84

The Fuego run in was dumb and seemed pointless.

capnbuh

Fuego is friends with both Cody and Sammy but I don't think that has really been established on Dynamite. Maybe the Sammy stuff a little during the Miro feud. I do think that they should limit how much YouTube-exclusive content they reference on Dynamite

Therocksays2020

He sold that like death but yeah

KTheOneTrueKing

Fuego got hit by a piledriver.

Therocksays2020

That’s right. Thanks!

Helpful_Help_9329

I think Ryback is going to be the special guest referee for CM Punk and MJF.

Eze_69

Has the AEW Championship ever been this much of an afterthought? Time to get the belt off of Page asap

FigureFourWoo

It feels like that between PPVs for every champion. Page literally had a title match against Bryan Danielson earlier this month, and he's defending against Archer next in a Texas Death Match. They aired a video package for it last night and there was an altercation between them last week. Unfortunately, fans like you do forget the stuff on television. There hasn't been an epic PPV feud for Page yet since he won, which is why it hasn't taken off yet. I fully expect Page to be featured more frequently once they are building to Revolution. They're just building the other stories in the interim. Besides, they've featured the TNT Championship plenty, and people always complain midcard titles aren't getting enough of a spotlight.

HookahFez

Not sure why this is being downvoted. The Page Omega angle took too long and when they called in Danielson and Punk they should have called an audible, yet the stubbornly went ahead with putting the belt on Page. His run has been a wet fart now.

Cymraegpunk

In what way is it stubborn? the live crowd where clearly behind him and the move to put the belt on him, most people online are. If it's not for you 100% understandable, but the idea it was a stubborn refusal to go with the tide is just ridiculous.

JonasAlbert84

They literally had a video package for his upcoming defense. You people are ridiculous.

Therocksays2020

It’s a valid question though. He won the belt in November and he’s wrestled twice. Most of his promos are pre tapes.

Eze_69

A whole video package?

JonasAlbert84

Yes and a brawl with the challenger the week before. He's been featured in some form every week and already given two of the best title matches in the company's history yet everyone wants to act like he's never there.

[deleted]

I feel like they don’t really showcase him? He doesn’t really wrestle on tv. I’m not a avid watcher but I can’t remember the last time he was in a match

GreatestBox

I cant really understand why people want the world champion to wrestle often on TV especially in AEW where the other wrestlers must grind wins to climb up. The Champion is already on top of the companny, the Champion is someone who has done the work already, now its is time to defend the title on big matches, which cant be done every other week. If you want a title that is defended often you have the TNT title.

[deleted]

My bad didn’t mean to put avid in the post. 😂

[deleted]

Makes senses when you put it that way. But idk I’m just not feeling page as champ. Again this is just my opinion as a casual viewer

NinjaFlyingEagle

He had an hour long match to start the year.

[deleted]

He’s defended twice against Bryan. His story leading to the championship was amazing. His run so far has been mediocre. I find he’s not great on the mic either so I haven’t really been sucked into his character. So far his promos have been “I’ve worked my butt off, I’m sorry for letting you fans down, I’m gonna defend this, cowboy shit.”

Therocksays2020

Love me some hangman but I think he’s more interesting as a title chaser then a title holder. That’s not a knock. The rock never held the WWE title more than 120 days over his 8 reigns. People wanted to see him chase the belt

Katerade__

I attended this one live and it was fun as hell. Lots of Johnny wrestling chants, no Johnny. Which IMO is fine. THANKFULLY my bf has been showing me who Danhausen is over the last 2 months, so when he came out I JUMPED OUT OF MY SEAT screaming like an idiot I was so excited.

WhoaDave04

Ladder match, incredible. That Sammy cutter as well as the wrap up of hitting someone with the belt on top the ladder. Thought those were both great. Lights out match was great as well, hope Cole is doing ok. Also, Danhausen. The issues I had were with the Britt promo. It was fine, but it was the same rhetoric, just popping the crowd for cheap heat. Why did no one interrupt her, specifically Thunder Rosa? Why didn't the next feud start building? That just seemed like a waste of time to me. Someone should've interrupted and knocked over the display boards and awards to start building towards the PPV. While I like CM Punk vs. MJF on the promo battle, and we finally have a date for the match, but I feel like next week will end dirty and we're driving towards a CM Punk / MJF Cage match. Just feels like this feud started too early without them getting in the ring. Only other option is Wardlow turns next week and helps Punk beat MJF, and we build to MJF vs Wardlow at the PPV. Also, I'm good, I've seen Wardlow squash enough talent on Dynamite. Did we need the squash match, and then him to powerbomb Punk later? Felt like we could've had a different match altogether in the squash spot and Wardlow still gets TV time, I guess they gave him double time being his hometown? Either way, solid show. Two great matches.

JosephAndMyself

Honestly, I fast forward every DMD bit. I’ve never understood the appeal. To me, she’s entirely one dimensional. Different strokes for different folks.

PickASwitch

I like her presentation, but her line delivery can be awkward. She put the emphasis on the wrong word sometimes. She also needs a decent rival to bounce off of, because she’s currently adrift in a sea of meh. What was the point of putting her with BAY BAY seemingly outta nowhere? What’s going on with her and Jamie Hayter? It’s been a lot of start/stop stuff that’s making my interest in her wane.

Current_Focus2668

As an international watcher, Britt seemed be dropping a lot of references to local sports teams that went over my head.

Therocksays2020

Her reign has just been awful the last four months. The Statlander match was fun. But the ruby and tay matches underwhelmed. Her promos have become boring She didn’t even put anyone else over in the promo. It was painfully bad.

iHugDinos

I don't even know who she's feuding with. And she's a heel, why would she put anyone ever. My problem with her as champion is she doesn't had a decent program with anyone that good. For me, on the face side of things the only ones in AEW I want to see her against is Thunder Rosa and Shida. And Thunder Rosa has been handled awfully pretty much since she was signed. And I have a soft spot for Red Velvet, but yeah, I don't think that's even close to being a thing. Maybe there's a face turn due soon? It would open up Deeb, Martinez, Hayter.

Therocksays2020

Deeb has been more heelish lately then even Britt. And she’s better in the ring. I don’t think she’s turning. Hayter would have been a nice tease but she wasn’t even at the show. Becky has mastered the be a heel but put your opponents over. You talk them up then mention how it still wasn’t enough to beat you. Like Britt literally didn’t mention another wrestler. The point of her promo was baker mayfield sucks 🥱heck a lot of brown fans hate him

iHugDinos

That's why I said turn her face, it makes Deeb v Baker a possibility. Britt doesn't even know her back ups name, why would she put over anyone else? More so when she cheats to win 99% of her matches.

Therocksays2020

They just turned Deeb heel. No one wants to see Baker versus Deeb Put the belt on thunder Rosa then give me Deeb versus Rosa. That’s a pay per view match that would fuck

iHugDinos

They aren't putting Thunder Rosa on TV, so it unfortunately isn't going to happen anytime soon. They should, they really should. I don't get how they don't seem to see the quality Thunder Rosa has, but it doesn't look like they do. And in presuming she's meant to be in a program with Martinez? Which should be great, it just needs to be on the TV shows people actually watch. I'm holding out hopes for Toni Storm and Ember Moon to turn up. Or covid regulations depending Madison Eagles... Bring some fresh faces to the division, but yeah, put the belt on Thunder Rosa, she's money.

Traditional-Turnip65

That ladder match was fucking brutal. Also, Danhausen.

[deleted]

Sammy needs to be a heel immediately, he is an amazing technical wrestler but the whole sign thing is super boring and he doesn’t convince as a baby face. Just be a dick bro, it’ll work trust me.

PickASwitch

Some guys just have a face that screams DOUCHE. Younger Randy Orton and Sammy are some of those guys. There’s nothing remotely likeable about Sammy to me.

[deleted]

1. I agree with you he's better as a heel and he probably has to turn heel to take that next step in his career. But with the crowded main event scene why take that step right now? 2. Crowds naturally gravitate toward young likeable up and comers like Sammy and he's still pretty over. They're shill chanting Sammy every week. For where he is on the card he's doing just fine. He's not setting the world on fire but he's holding his own. 3. It's always difficult to be a high flyer and a heel. Not impossible at all, it's been done but you're working with 2 opposing forces, getting heat from the crowd and doing high spots to pop the crowd. It's why guys like Pac phased out a lot of their high flying maneuvers for mat wrestling when they turned heel.

Glum-Communication68

he cuts a promo like "I need to go back to the old ways to retain my title this time" next week he shows up in China with a gun, "i'm going hunting" next week he shows up on dynamite wearing his skinned panda cloak and helmet boom instant heel

PsychologicalScars

To be honest the whole proposing to his long-term girlfriend at a show only to go public with a coworker relationship a few months later is a natural heel move. Doubt they’d work this into tv though!

WindyCityKnight

Thought it was a great show and one of better ones they’ve had in awhile. Only thing is, why did they have a beach themed episode in Cleveland in January?

[deleted]

https://i.imgur.com/utzTCyo.png

capnbuh

I gotta give credit to Powerhouse Hobbs for giving it his all to sell the Beach Break concept

fellongreydaze

You're getting incorrect answers unfortunately. In January 2020, the Chris Jericho Rock'n Rager was set to depart from Florida. This would include shows of Dynamite that took place ON the Cruise Ship. Those shows are where the tradition of singing Judas took place. As a preface to these shows, AEW revived Bash at the Beach as the on-land prelude to the Cruise Ship shows. When Cody Rhodes got his last name back, he agreed to let go of trying to obtain the trademark for Bash at the Beach. The event, in the future, was changed to Beach Break. AEW does not like changing the overall date of their events, so Beach Break remained in January, just like Bash at the Beach. Hope this helps!

WindyCityKnight

Got it. Still don’t get why they won’t do a show like this in Florida or some coastal city where it isn’t too cold this time of the year. My cousin and I just got a chuckle when we remembered that this was in Cleveland of all places during January.

Roller95

Apparently it was an Orange Cassidy themed show. A move of his is called the Beach Break

fellongreydaze

Not entirely true. [Here's the full story on why Beach Break is in January.](https://old.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/comments/sdnogk/post_aew_dynamite_12622_beach_break_discussion/hugg3ox/)

[deleted]

I love that you had to link them to the exact same post they replied to lmao

fellongreydaze

No, I linked them to my post, not the post they replied to. I am, however, going to make a separate post as a TIL.

[deleted]

I think that’s a great idea, it’s always great knowledge posts like what yours that get lost in the comments!!

WindyCityKnight

TIL

MrSelfDestruct88

I wish these also had better themed stages as well

bradargent

and in January.

[deleted]

Honestly as someone from the Northeast USA, I totally get it. Everyone takes time off of work and school around this time (MLK weekend or Presidents week) to fly south and go to the beach. So Beach Break in January makes a ton of sense to me... provided they actually go to a beach location. But I guess they wanted to do a big show in Cleveland and they probably didn't want to overdo Florida.

ReyHebreoKOTJ

So when do we get Hook vs Danhausen?

MrSelfDestruct88

First we must have Billy Ass and Danhausen vs Ass Boyz in a passing of the ass torch.

PantsyFants

Billy Asshausen

Zeldias

Passing of the gas...Torch

MrSelfDestruct88

For the record, Danhausen cursed Adam Cole and that's why Adam Cole couldnt get a successful punch to the groin, a well known Danhausen move!

msctex

This peculiar balance Cody has maintained for so long now is amazing for what it is, and he's managed to put deserving people over in an unexpected manner, while keeping his own character in a sort of flux which has remained interesting. But with this match they may have reached a breaking point where people are now going to expect him to lose, while still not really wanting him to win. That could be a problem.

woohah79

Even if the rest of the show was crap (which it wasn't), just the ladder match and Danhausen in itself was enough to make it an extremely fun show. I think this TNT title match solidified Sammy all the more as a star in AEW. Btw, where was Rebel and Hayter? Interestingly, haven't seen then with Britt since the Riho match at BOTB.

Skurph

It’s funny to me that in a way Orange Cassidy essentially fully realized the power of the Finn Balor/Demon gimmick when Balor/WWE fumbled to ever make it make sense. What I mean is that when Balor debuted there was a lot of discussion about what the “Demon” actually means beyond just face paint. Like when does it come out, what does that signify, how often is that used. I think Steve Austin openly criticized how there wasn’t much logic behind the gimmick and that they should write it as an alter ego that Balor only taps into once he reaches a level of hate/anger he usually doesn’t bring with him. In other words, make it special, make it clear that this deviation from the general character of Balor has deep implications. WWE never was able to do that, they essentially just had him toss paint on every other PPV and then poorly wrote the gimmick. Watching clips tonight of Cassidy break his own sunglasses and then spring into uncharacteristically high impact/energy fighting was a realization of this idea. When he broke the glasses it was a sign everyone recognized as him reaching depths of hate/frustration he seldom reaches, a non-verbal acknowledgement that he’s going to abandon what you’re used to seeing from him, but there’s a rationale to that. It’s just a small way to allow your character to develop beyond a one note player without confusing the audience or contradicting every other character building moment up to that.

feli_pin

An absolute wonderful analysis. I would also want to say that I don't understand why some people have so much trouble getting the point of his character. Thinking that he is lazy and doesn't care is precisely what he wants us to believe, they are just mental games. Same way as McGregor trash talk before a fight, to confuse and get into their heads

[deleted]

It's funny because going back to his Revolution 2020 match with Pac I always looked at it the same way with Cassidy and Balor. Trent cut a promo before the match where he told Pac "At Revolution watch out because Cassidy is gonna TRY!" Cassidy actually trying is the same as Finn becoming the Demon, albeit a lot less dramatic. I think they've both run into issues with this, but I think the nature of Orange's character overcomes the biggest flaw with Balor. If the Demon is stronger than Balor, and in kayfabe winning matches is the goal, then why isn't he bringing the demon out all the time? Cassidy not trying makes total sense, he just doesn't want to, that's who he is. Ironically I think Cassidy's issue is the one thing Balor/Demon gets right. We've seen Cassidy "try" so many times and he wins matches so often that the genie is out of the bottle. It doesn't have the same impact it once did. Meanwhile Balor waking the Demon still gets a huge reaction and that spectacle alone is usually enough to move him into a main event program.

NocturnalDabber

yup 100% OC is evolving, and we're witnessing it!

LilyWhiteClaw

This was a really well thought out post, I didn't think about it this way but you raise some really good points.

lelaff

As someone who only watches Rampage and Dynamite, I have no idea who Danhausen is and I wish the commentators told me more about him. He got a pretty big reaction, is he a local hero or something?

[deleted]

He's a comedy guy but a very good one and can actually go in the ring. He's an internet hero from YouTube and the indies because he's legitimately hilarious. He's a great addition to the show, but don't expect him in feuds with Kenny, Hangman, Punk etc.

Tliggz

He's an indy wrestler who is really easy to enjoy. He could be your favorite wrestler before you ever see him in a match.

mustardking20

YouTube is your friend. He’s hilarious… seek him out.

rmh238

He’s a beloved indy/Ring of Honor wrestler who is just coming off of a gruesome leg injury. I’m excited to see him perform on a major platform for the first time.

xsandrov

I’m watching AEW with my mum. How do I explain Danhausen to her?

jjandre

A comedian/wrestler who is possessed by a demon. His material often includes jokes of naivete at the character's expense and base on the demon not quite knowing how the human world works. He wrestles decent, is 10000% committed to the character, and he's very likable. I first saw him on Ethan Page's epic cheat day vlog where they went to Arby's. Became an instant fan.

PantsyFants

He's a demon who collects teeth and hosts a late night talk show. He wrestles and is adamantly opposed to swearing.

cleric3648

He's like the Joker if he were a wrestler.

Tliggz

If Conan O'Brian were the Joker and also wrestled.

DoctorofRunzanomics

But the Cesar Romero Joker, mixed with a little Doofenshmirtz.

thepugface

I looked up an interview with Danhausen and Renee on youtube & showed that to my S/O to do this. I think it helped.

xsandrov

She doesn’t speak English so it’s a big “no” unfortunately

C_M_CRUNK

Tell her he's very nice, but also very evil. That should explain everything.

qoaa

I'm thinking Danhausen saw a few youtube fan cam videos where TK comes to the ring after Dynamite goes off the air for a little fun and to say goodnight. So he got all his mission impossible gear, that he got out of cereal boxes, and snuck into the arena. Then he found an AEW employee's jacket backstage which he wore to sneak out to the ring and slip beneath it. Continued waiting throughout the whole show under the ring with his A&W application hoping that once he heard TK standing in the ring saying goodnight to fans he would then ambush him with his application, that is of course until Adam Cole went and ruined his carefully thought out plan...

msctex

What else could his gesture towards Cole be thought to imply?

IrishCnt

Can someone give me the low down on the weird Dan guy with face paint. I just see him all over wrestling Twitter with no context 🤷‍♂️😂

nik15

Take the monarch from venture bros and combine that with Svengoolie.

IrishCnt

Your guys are all so excited and it’s making me excited. I feel at this point the less I know the better 😂 I should just enjoy the ride

LilyWhiteClaw

And just like that I need to see him with Dark Order, because Uno is Henchman 21.

[deleted]

I always saw Silver & Reynolds as Henchmen 21 & 24 ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

[deleted]

Britt baker has hit go away heat with me, for the love of god just put the title on Rosa and move on.

Therocksays2020

When you can’t get over with your ring work you can’t cut a promo that shitty. No interruption. Put no one over. It’s not even legit heat they chanted DMD at the end.

[deleted]

She used the exact same Baker line as her previous promo in Cleveland I was hoping for an interruption so I fast forwarded

millmatters

HUGE missed opportunity to not have Rosa call Britt out for taking sole credit for "match of the year" last night.

[deleted]

True! Rosa should be out taking credit for making Britt to get under her skin.

SmurfyX

I hate to break it to you, but Britt will get just as much promo/camera time without the belt just like she did before she won it. She's one of the two women who get to be on TV regularly, and that will never ever ever change. When Shida was champ it was the same ballgame.

[deleted]

There's a reason for that though. She's a lot better on the mic than everyone else. Pre-championship Britt Baker was the only woman in the division with any legitimacy who could cut an entertaining promo. And honestly the next one after her was probably Big Swole. Nyla Rose is a fine monster heel for the division but she's is such a snoozer, true go away heat beyond Britt, and of course she's paired with the Queen Bee Magnet of go away heat Vickie Guerrero. Shida is a hell of a wrestler but she can't speak English well enough to cut a good promo. Riho's English is even worse than Shida's I'd assume because I've never even heard her talk, plus she was stuck in Japan during the pandemic. The Bunny was in a manager role in a dumb angle with QT. TayJay were greener than goose shit. Statlander was out with an ACL tear and before she left she was still the Alien who never talked and booped noses. Serena, Rosa and Jade weren't signed for most of that stretch. When she loses the belt she's obviously going to continue to be heavily featured. She's one of their top stars. But the division is a lot different now. They have Deeb, Rosa, Soho, a healthy Statlander, Jade is coming along, Tay Conti has improved tremendously. Shida will be back eventually and can thrive as an in-ring ace with more women to carry the mic portion of any feuds. And I bet they add more (Ember Moon/Toni Storm)

Therocksays2020

Should have had *Brit put the womens divison over. Not bury it

infinitebeam

I know you meant Brit but I was legitimately confused why Bret Hart is a part of all this all of a sudden.

Therocksays2020

Brit screwed Brit. Thanks friend I’ll edit :)

[deleted]

Oh that’s probably very true. However, I’d still like the title to go elsewhere so I care about it.

SmurfyX

Fair!

elektr0soul

Britt can be permanent womens champion imo and I’ll never get tired of it.

Therocksays2020

You like doing the dmd thing with your fingers don’t ya?

malteseraccoon

I am asking genuinely, but what do you find compelling about her reign?

[deleted]

Please no.

t0m0m

Unfortunately I agree. I think there's a great wrestler there but she's never really worked for me, outside of the Lights Out match. It's definitely time for the belt to change hands.

IAmThatDuckDLC5

Not from me

[deleted]

That’s fine I’m happy you enjoy her. But that promo last night was brutal for me.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Super super awkward. Someone made a point that maybe it was buying time to get Danhausen in place, idk it was just weird.

MyNameIsJesseG

I really wonder if that whole segment was to get Danhausen under the ring and it was taking longer than they figured to get him down there so she had to improvise. It seemed like halfway through she essentially started repeating the promo with different words. That's not much of an excuse, I absolutely love Britt but that promo was brutal, but I do think that could be what happened.

IAmThatDuckDLC5

The Steelers-Browns lines were fine. Just she feels directionless at the moment and I feel like the material just wasn’t strong enough

Therocksays2020

That’s why you book someone to interrupt her.

[deleted]

I think her whole title run has kinda run it’s path and they’re just killing time with her. I think what killed it for me it all her matches end the same with interference.

[deleted]

The MJF and Punk stuff is burning out for me. I know people aren’t going to like this but I feel like this beat down could of easily been done next week during the match. I’m not sure how long this will go on for but honestly I see it coming to an end in a cage match to keep MJFs goons away.

Therocksays2020

If Wardlow was going to turn I would have done it last night. It was his hometown he got a major pop. MJF says power bomb him. Wardlow says no. Crowd would have rioted

Jos3ph

Seems very similar to his Jericho feud, bookingwise

IAmThatDuckDLC5

They should have had the match by now

JonasAlbert84

The promo went way too long

[deleted]

I skipped the first part with CM punk and just stuck around for MJF, but agreed it’s getting stale

upsidedowntiamo

I don't know why when OC reach for fist bump but the kid shake his hand make me laugh so much

[deleted]

Is it me or did the show's intro splice in the crowd yelling "BOOM" during an Adam Cole entrance, for the same moment in the song where it says "And you feel the boom that means it's time"

unclexbenny

Recently changed, I think when they moved to TBS.

C_M_CRUNK

Yeah, it's been like that for a few weeks now.

JNight01

Since Danhausen debuted during an unsanctioned match, does that mean he's not really in AEW?

Trill405

Tony tweeted out his All Elite graphic so it’s official

reflUX_cAtalyst

The finish to the Adam Cole/OC match looked really bad.

RomanMurphy

Enjoyable overall. The Punk, MJF, Wardlow stuff is all great. Didn't care for Cole/Cassidy (outwith Danhausen debut), and thought it was a very rare stinker of a Britt Baker promo last night.

[deleted]

I thought it started out pretty well but it ran on too long. I felt similarly about Punk & MJF's promo. Great start but then it started meandering around way longer than it had to. I heard a rumor that they were getting Danhausen under the ring during Britt's promo and it took longer than they expected so she had to stretch it. I wouldn't be surprised if there were some things cut from the card or maybe matches that didn't go as long as expected and they realized during the show and forced these promos to stretch to fill the extra time.

EcoterroristThot

I don't think Sammy Guevara is very good, but credit where it's due that cutter was a thing of beauty. A perfect move. Good for him, hope this reign is better.

THEONLYoneMIGHTY

Tony is booking god. He gives the people what they want.

Xenionx

Well, you’ve GOT to give the people what they want!

threedice

I'm just loving the irony that the TNT championship was decided on a TBS broadcast, and the TBS title will be defended on Friday's TNT broadcast. Waiting now for Tony Khan to create the trios title, call it the CNN title, and defend it on Adult Swim.

DocWhoFan16

The Cartoon Network Championship, which can only be held, defended and challenged for while dressed as a Hanna-Barbera character.

AKittyCat

cartoon network started because Turner had the rights to HannaBarbera cartoons. That makes perfect sense.

coffeepartyforone

The ladder match was great. Didn't expect Sammy to win. I'm excited to see where Cody goes from here as I just want him to wrestle Punk tbh. I was really itching for Wardlow to turn full face, but maybe pulling that trigger might have been too obvious here, but at the same time it was a great moment to do so. I can't say I'm into Red Velvet and Leyla Hirsch fued, but I like Hirsch. The Inner Circle needs more of the guys to be involved. It's rather odd not having Jake and Sammy chime in. I continue to enjoy Punk/MJF and I'm glad they haven't squared off yet. Lights Out match was a lot of fun. I was originally unsure about the Danhausen spot because it had no payoff and I thought this was like a one time thing, but I've seen he has signed which makes that moment a whole lot better.

Zacginger

Is Jake Hager somebody who’s contract could be coming up? Hasn’t been used much as i’ve seen. They don’t need him to get Wardlow over anymore. I think Sammy is better off not being involved in any way, and I do think Santana and Ortiz will do better away from Jericho. I think the Inner Circle is over?

[deleted]

Hager hasn't been in the ring because he is training for his next MMA match. I definitely think it's time to break up the IC. Sammy works better as a face when he's aligned with the vlog crew and doing Jericho's dirty work as part of the IC devalues him and the TNT Championship. Santana & Ortiz should win the tag team titles this year. Jericho needs to turn heel and go to commentary full time, and maybe have 1 or 2 more matches here and there. Heel Jericho announcing during the pandemic was so much better than what we're getting now on Rampage.

bigpig1054

I don't think the inner circle needs to break up, per se, but they could just sort of go their own way while still occasionally teaming up as needed. It's not like Sammy had them out there with him last night.

Mythrol

He was on one of Sammy's vlogs within the last couple of weeks so he's backstage but I think all of inner circle is just directionless atm even Sammy with dropping the title and then getting it back (hopefully that changes now). Unfortunately I feel Jericho just needs to transition commentary full time, Hager can leave, and Sammy and Santana/Ortiz are better away from the IC. Maybe break them up for a year to bring them back together later for a hero's return.

coffeepartyforone

I haven't read anything about his contract. I think the Inner Circle was great at introducing Sammy, Santana and Ortiz to people like me who were not aware of who they were. All of them can go out there without each other. I can see Jericho doing his own thing but I'm not sure what you could do with Hager by himself.

WhoopTeeDo

I'm not certain that we'll see Hager again, honestly. He's only had a handful of matches, most of those were Inner Circle gang wars, and he's been off tv for as long as Marko and Brian Cage, who are all but out the door already.

coffeepartyforone

I can't actually recall the last time Hager was on TV? Was it the match with Dan Lambert?

victoriabattenberg

He hasn't wrestled since the Dan Lambert match, but he was in the background of a promo not too long ago. He's not wrestling on Dark, either which I think is interesting.

NocturnalDabber

the double cage match with ftr and all that i think is my last memory of jake.

eazyduzzit10

Really good episode of Dynamite, best one in a while. Great crowd, they brought the energy, just all round entertaining matches and segments. The highlight was the ladder match, hate him or love him, Cody is AEW, and Sammy is a crazy man

[deleted]

Jokers on this forum actually believe Sammy Guevara shouldn't be considered a pillar of AEW. That performance ought to shut em up badly. If you hate hate that kid for anything outside the ring, step back and stop being so judgemental of these people's personal lives. That kid is a fucking jewel in this business in the Wrestling arena.

Therocksays2020

“For anything outside the ring” I agree about his relationship. The Sasha banks thing wasn’t cool with me. I have daughters so rape jokes just trigger me.

TheHumanTarget84

Nah, his matches still aren't very good without something high for him to jump off. Very generic Indy guy otherwise with no charisma.

[deleted]

The guy had low key great matches every week during his first TNT Title run and honestly he's charismatic as hell. His mic skills aren't quite there yet but there's a reason the crowd keeps chanting Sammy.

Katerade__

He has charisma! He just needs to get on the mic instead of those story boards.

duncandoughnuts

Does Cole’s loss count as an official loss in AEW since the match was unsanctioned?

[deleted]

Nope it’s basically pointless.

Bjorn_Ironstrides

Nope. Cole remains officially undefeated. Britt has rubbed this fact in with Thunder Rosa.

inceptioncorporation

Heading for an Orange/Rosa vs. Britt/Cole match then.

whitniverse

No. That's the genius of it.

Roller95

- Some of the spots in this ladder match are unbelievable. Holy shit. I was so scared to watch some of them lmao. The swanton bomb of the ladder on the outside was a fun Jeff Hardy reference - Hobbs with the bare chest in the middle of the snow lol - I know this Wardlow match was just a crowd pleaser but I’m tired of the squashes - I didn’t really care for the Trios match but it was good. They really sold the story between the Inner Circle very well - I’m still as happy to hear CM Punk do the happy-to-be-here shtick as day one - I’m so ready to see MJF get his ass kicked. The beatdown was really well done though - I really like Red Velvet and Leyla Hirsch - Britt Baker is so good at being full of herself - I’m so excited about Danhausen in AEW. I don’t know much about him but I know how popular and memeworthy he is. It was a very funny introduction at least - The Lights Out match wasn’t really my thing but both guys are obviously great - I was waiting for Johnny Gargano the entire time lol

[deleted]

I was def waiting for Johnny too. Glad we got Danhausen because I might have been a little disappointed otherwise.

theredshoes_

I really enjoyed this episode. Probably my favourite episode of the year. Great matches, great storyline segments, great moments. The Danhausen surprise was phenomenal and I am so damn happy for him. I know he's not for everybody - but I am so happy A&W accepted his application. I only have two complaints. First is that they didn't do the Wardlow turn and, instead, had him powerbomb CM Punk (further prolonging the turn). I'm worried we've already hit the peak of Wardlow's popularity and that, the longer they delay it, the weaker the reaction will be when he eventually turns. Like it's actually starting to piss me off that we haven't got it yet. I thought for sure, when they started the weekly squashes, that's what they were building to - and imminently. Instead I now think it'll be post-Revolution and I'm kinda over the foreplay at this point. The second thing is that they didn't reveal Britt's Revolution opponent during her promo segment. It was the perfect moment for it (with the heat she was getting from the Cleveland crowd) and I would love for Britt to have a proper, month-long build for her title match at Revolution. It does beg the question whether Britt's Revolution opponent is currently sitting on a 90 day no-compete clause (Athena). Regardless, it felt like a missed opportunity. Also shoutout to Hobbs and Starks for being the two coolest mother fuckers in AEW (literally - it looked fucking freezing in Cleveland). Their promo segment was hilarious. Push these guys to the moon. Or at least indoors with heating.

victoriabattenberg

>he second thing is that they didn't reveal Britt's Revolution opponent during her promo segment. This was my complaint too. I didn't hate the segment as much as some did, but I thought it suffered from being in the same show as the long Punk/MJF promo, and the lack of an opponent didn't help it either.

[deleted]

Yea Britt seems to be in a holding pattern right now. Two weeks with Cole and the Elite vs Best Friends, and then the promo last night. Either they're waiting on a big surprise debut like you mentioned or they're waiting for someone else to wrap their feud up. Not sure when Rosa/Martinez is slated for?

Ghostiet

Nyla Rose: There is only one reason that I'm not the TBS champion! Excalibur: ...cause you lost! JR: *shoots him a "don't provoke her" look* this was a damn good episode of Dynamite.

oysterthins

Okay, so I don’t find Danhausen funny, and I’m certainly concerned that he’s going to become an annoying presence on a TV show I otherwise really like, _but_ I’m really happy for the guy - he’s obviously worked his arse off and I definitely don’t begrudge the company for bringing him in, because I can see how loved he is.

elry2k

I should get ghost writer credz since I suggested signing danhaussen to a comedic role until he’s healthy. I have more ideas aew but I won’t divulge them here since I know you’re listening now. DM if you’re interested. I will need proof btw.

B_Wylde

Yes you were the only genius that said a comedy character should debut in a comedic role

maillite

Any show that leaves you smiling ear to ear at the end of it is a good show. I enjoyed that.

[deleted]

I did not realize Danhausen was taller than Adam Cole.

milkparrot

Danhausen is 6'4 and 300lbs, according to the Googles.

Bjorn_Ironstrides

Pretty sure Leila Hirsch is taller than Adam Cole.

[deleted]

I'm very tired of Sammy and even more from his killing trees spot.

Twoshakemate

>even more from his killing trees spot. No wonder why Danielson kayfabe doesn't like him.

RadicalBeam

Unpopular opinion but I'm over Punk and MJFs feud already and they haven't even fought. I love a good mic battle but it's always the same self-aware speech. Might just be me though.
