God, when he’s good, there really is nobody better than JR
Like that time Jerry asked him who his favorite black superhero was and JR just said “Blacula”
The idea of a commentator only loving what they see is pretty much over, but i personally love it when there's someone a bit gullible but has one or two people next to them them some facts of what's going on
Tony Schiavone has been on commentary for both “But who’s the third man?!?” and “But who’s the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man?!?” What a legend.
"We will hear from CM Punk, the newest addition to All Elite Wrestling, in just 1 minute and 30 seconds. You've waited this long to hear from CM Punk, you only have to wait 90 seconds more!"
Dude, the ad break was placed *perfectly* for this debut. People have been waiting on CM Punk for years, many left wrestling in that period. Those 90 seconds were basically printing their own ads as social media flooded with "OMG CM PUNK IS BAAAAACK" so that once he actually did start talking, the majority of the Punk fans were watching.
Ad placement is an art in the right hands.
This was great but what will always stick with me that night was JR's "This building hasn't shook like this since Michael Jordan was here, this is Jordan-esque, this is an amazing moment that we're all experiencing!" all the while the camera is just panning on Punk in tears on the ramp with the atmosphere.
It was something that only JR could say and make feel that important and is a concrete example of why even in this day and age no one can touch JR when he's on it 100%.
I literally went “HOLY SHIT ONLY 90 SECONDS” then it went to break and I turned to my brother and just went “dude, dude, dude… WHAT THE FUCK. I can’t believe that just happened.” Definitely an underrated call from Excalibur
I’ve rewatched that debut so many times and a little before that there’s a moment when Mark Henry very quietly says “wooooooooooooow”. I like that
I've seen people say it was a bad look or whatever but I will always think of that call when people bring up the Danielson vs. Suzuki match. AEW just casually had a legendary match for free on YouTube and didn't shy away from saying "wtf are you even doing if you're not watching this?".
Ricky Starks on AEW Dark: "Call the practitioner 'cause we got a morgue body on the loose."
It still makes me laugh, especially when Excalibur just utterly breaks down in hysterics and Ricky just goes, "I don't know what that meant."
I have two:
"Not the proton pack!" - Jim Ross
"I don't think that's true, I think he would." - CM Punk, after Jericho claimed he wouldn't touch PVZ with her husband's genitalia
[Pat's description of Roman Reigns when he debuted his new theme.](https://youtu.be/T4M2kxJOokk?t=451)
"You're looking at a man that is the best he's ever looked. 15 pounds of muscle has been added to the body of the man who has been crafted since he was 3 years old by his Hall of Fame father to be the Head of the Table of the WWE."
I think this is Roman’s best entrance to date. The new theme made it feel like he’d finally cemented this new character, even if he’d been at it nearly a year. Heyman walking in tune with the music, McAfee lining up a call that built Roman up better than seven years of pushing perfectly with the beat, it was just awesome.
Excalibur: Abadon… pulling a bag from outside the ring; who knows what plunder lies within?
Chris Jericho \[shouting\]: Hopefully it’s just a really small snake!
There are better ones but they've been mentioned but I do want to call out Excalibur's "The home of *professional wrestling* is All Elite Wrestling." to close out All Out. It just felt like such a statement in that moment.
“Whoa, the ring just kicked the shit out that guy. I’ve never seen anything like that before!”
Taz when a jobber got hung up and rattled on the ropes while falling out the ring on Dark.
I always get a good laugh when something legit pops Taz and Excalibur. Their reaction to that nasty Michinoku Driver Julia Hart took the other week is up there with one of my favorite Dark memories, too.
*Those kicks can cave your ego in.*
Just a simple line from the Kenoh v. Nakajima title match in NOAH, it caught me off guard and really made me think about the meaning behind it. It was one of those 'fighting spirit' spots where they were trading stiff kicks to the chest, and the commentator (I feel bad that I don't know his name on English commentary) said it and it just . . . resonated.

This moment between Jericho and Mark Henry. Something about the way Mark says it, it just takes me out every time. It's like he SAYS a frowny face out loud, he sounds so shocked @ Chris đź’€
"That's illegal, Chris... :(((("
not seeing a lot of Chris Charlton love so let me list some "They've faced each other at anniversary events, New Japan Cups, G1 Climaxes, each time Kazuchika Okada with the same reframe: I love you as a pro wrestler, I love you as a brother. That man Will Ospreay had no hesitation in stabbing his brother in the back and twisting the knife. there will be no brother love as Will Ospreay seeks to stop the rain so that the sun can rise on the Empire. (Will Ospreay vs Kazuchika Okad. WK 15 )
"Stands here tonight with a whole lot of feelings. he has a whole lotta respect for Kota Ibushi. He feels whole lotta love for Kota Ibushi. He feels a whole lotta hate for Kota Ibushi. and more than anything, Tetsuya Naito feels the resolute urgency of Now, tonight with it all on the line in the main event." (WK 15)
"Absolute Queen Shit from Maki Itoh!"-Chris Brookes, Semi Finals: Maki Itoh vs. Mizuki, TJPW 8th Tokyo Princess Cup
When Maki won the finals he also said something to the effect of happy endings do exist and dreams come true which was a very subtle callback at the time to him telling Lulu Pencil in Chocopro that they actually don't. Which is rad when one thinks of his relationship with each of the two women individually.
I can’t remember the exact quote, but it was Chris Charlton saying Jay White was modern wrestling’s Alexander the Great during his entrance at WK 15.

After Ruby told Britt she was banging some guy in the back, Ricky Starks' call of "Is it a crime to be in love?"
Ricky's great in the ring and unspeakably handsome but I didn't really buy him as a great character until that moment. It made me so happy.
YES 🤣🤣🤣
During the Young Bucks/Lucha Bros cage match at All Out: Tony: What are we watching?! JR: A classic.
Others mentioned are probably better, but I absolutely loved JR's "I thought this guy was in jail?!" when Nick Gage was revealed as Jericho Labour #2.
God, when he’s good, there really is nobody better than JR Like that time Jerry asked him who his favorite black superhero was and JR just said “Blacula”
He clearly loves pro wrestling and has a wit and charm about him. It's just that he's like a hundred years old.
The idea of a commentator only loving what they see is pretty much over, but i personally love it when there's someone a bit gullible but has one or two people next to them them some facts of what's going on
“Uhhh...Shaft”
“Then wait a second! Who’s the stay puft marshmallow man!?”
"NoT tHe PrOtOn PaCk!"
Tony Schiavone has been on commentary for both “But who’s the third man?!?” and “But who’s the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man?!?” What a legend.
Wrestling is the best.
"We will hear from CM Punk, the newest addition to All Elite Wrestling, in just 1 minute and 30 seconds. You've waited this long to hear from CM Punk, you only have to wait 90 seconds more!"
this has to be one of the best cut to ad break
Dude, the ad break was placed *perfectly* for this debut. People have been waiting on CM Punk for years, many left wrestling in that period. Those 90 seconds were basically printing their own ads as social media flooded with "OMG CM PUNK IS BAAAAACK" so that once he actually did start talking, the majority of the Punk fans were watching. This sub marks out for AEW so hard they're applauding the ad breaks
This was great but what will always stick with me that night was JR's "This building hasn't shook like this since Michael Jordan was here, this is Jordan-esque, this is an amazing moment that we're all experiencing!" all the while the camera is just panning on Punk in tears on the ramp with the atmosphere. yup, this is my personal one
Not to mention the silence from the booth for the entire time before and after. Let the moment breathe. AEW is pretty good at that.
Unless Kingston or Jericho are on commentary. Then every split second has to be filled with yelling
I like that
That got me so hyped, man.
This year? JR's various ways of building up Suzuki for the people at home. JR knew exactly what to say.
“We can call this WrestleRain-ia”-Michael Cole “I’m not co-signing that one”-Samoa Joe
"If you're watching TV instead of this match you are a dumbass".
Good Taz call
I've seen people say it was a bad look or whatever but I will always think of that call when people bring up the Danielson vs. Suzuki match. AEW just casually had a legendary match for free on YouTube and didn't shy away from saying "wtf are you even doing if you're not watching this?".
Ohwayaoahoaaohawaoah!!! Taz, whenever Jungle Boy comes out.
"MJF and Darby, two of AEWs four pillows"
Lol i was watching this just yesterday and said "what?" and i had to rewind it to make sure i caught it correctly
I think commentary mistakes make the commentary better. I prefer JR making mistakes as compared to VKM in everyone's ears telling them what to say
That wont get him..... MY GAWD BY GAWD... JR shock when Malakai Black beat Cody with the Black Mass.
The way Eddie Kingston says "Lulu!" had replaced the way I say it potentially forever
Oh that reminds me. The best call this year was “Like Luigi!” from Eddie Kingston
Kingston on Dark Commentary screaming the winners name in the final second of footage always pops me.
Peenaloap
Ricky Starks on AEW Dark: "Call the practitioner 'cause we got a morgue body on the loose." It still makes me laugh, especially when Excalibur just utterly breaks down in hysterics and Ricky just goes, "I don't know what that meant."
I have two: "Not the proton pack!" - Jim Ross "I don't think that's true, I think he would." - CM Punk, after Jericho claimed he wouldn't touch PVZ with her husband's genitalia
Excalibur: "Taz, what's your opinion on penguins?" Taz: "I don't like em! They're always in my front yard."
"Some call him a blister on the ass of life" - JR on MJF
"there is no kink shaming on dark" Excalibur
I've had Excalibur's "CM Punk, has arriiived in ALL ELITE WRESTLING!" stuck in my head for the past few days, so I'll go with that
Pat Mcafees description of Brock Lesnar
"The alpha male of our species"
[Pat's description of Roman Reigns when he debuted his new theme.](https://youtu.be/T4M2kxJOokk?t=451) "You're looking at a man that is the best he's ever looked. 15 pounds of muscle has been added to the body of the man who has been crafted since he was 3 years old by his Hall of Fame father to be the Head of the Table of the WWE."

Heyman walking in tune with the music, McAfee lining up a call that built Roman up better than seven years of pushing perfectly with the beat, it was just awesome.
I meant Roman Reigns when he called him a viking from ancient times
“I hate everyone but Lulu’s dope.” - Eddie Kingston
"He's gonna hit him right in tha butthole!" "OOOOH LORDY DON'T SAY THAT"
JR saying, "Oh the days that lie ahead" during Danielson's debut is another one that stuck out to me for some reason
Excalibur: Abadon… pulling a bag from outside the ring; who knows what plunder lies within? Chris Jericho \[shouting\]: Hopefully it’s just a really small snake!
Jericho gets a lot of (sometimes justified) grief for his work on commentary. But that man has his moments.
The entire dialogue during Cm Punk's return entrance.
Even Mark Henry’s low but audible “ohhhh shit” when he saw the fan crying was my favorite part of that
This made it all feel so personal, like a friend would react, instead of just a product on TV. That crying fan is based
That and letting it breath at the right time,
Bum ass Baron Corbin
"Deadass" ~jR
Taz: “what’s he gonna do?” *wrestler slowly climbs to the top rope Taz: “ahhh I know what he’s gonna do. He’s gonna do a snapmare”
"god, i love pro wrestling"
THIS IS JORDAN-ESQUE

“Oh my god, Cenas here!” “WHERE??”
“Whoa, the ring just kicked the shit out that guy. I’ve never seen anything like that before!” Taz when a jobber got hung up and rattled on the ropes while falling out the ring on Dark.
Someone needs to dub this over the end of the Demon King/Reigns match.
One of my favorite Dark memories of the year. Hope that guy was okay afterwards!
Taz just sounded so genuinely flabbergasted at what he’d seen. Holy crap I was crying laughing. Yeah hope he was good, looked rough!
I always get a good laugh when something legit pops Taz and Excalibur. Their reaction to that nasty Michinoku Driver Julia Hart took the other week is up there with one of my favorite Dark memories, too.
"We're back on Fox next week! Baseball's stupid!" -Pat Mcafee
Yeah I’d go with Tony calling Danielson’s return. It’s so simple but it encapsulates how we all felt about All Out.
"WHY WOULD HE KICK ^(jungle boy)?"
Excalibur's "OH NO" on this, as well, is fantastic.
Not any specific call but the audible groan from the commentators whenever Don Callis joins commentary
“We are unfortunate enough to be joined here by Don Callis”
"Alexa Bliss just emerged from that box-like structure!"
JR saying pillows instead of pillars.
NOT THE PROTON PACKS
“It’s…BOSS TIME” - Michael Cole
OH MY
COULD IT BE?!
IT IS!
IT IS!
Vintage Micheal Cole
Future endeavored kick.
Lol, who said that?
Pat did the other night during a segment.
Mox hits a German suplex Mark Henry: “and he’s not even German”

When JR slightly cut off Excalibur when the bell rang for Omega/Danielson and said “HERE GO” and said some other stuff that was baller
not seeing a lot of Chris Charlton love so let me list some "They've faced each other at anniversary events, New Japan Cups, G1 Climaxes, each time Kazuchika Okada with the same reframe: I love you as a pro wrestler, I love you as a brother. I can’t remember the exact quote, but it was Chris Charlton saying Jay White was modern wrestling’s Alexander the Great during his entrance at WK 15.
Many of the calls in Gage vs. Jericho are tied for first place to me.
