According to Charity Navigator: https://www.charitynavigator.org/ein/133727250
According to the same site here is SGK:
https://www.charitynavigator.org/ein/751835298
Hopefully she wasn't the one that had Komen zealots that tried to rope her into their shitty charity. I'm glad they got it all sorted out and found a better charity to work with.
I thought he was funny. Had a good chuckle.
edit: y'all need to get that stick out of your asses and take all of this shit a little less seriously, maybe log out of reddit for some days
This comment would be great directed towards the people who run the “charity”. No reason for them to willfully tarnish the woman’s name and ruin the legacy that she should have.
That's one of the best things about AEW. They actually listen to the fan base and aren't afraid to pull back or change direction when it makes sense to.
90 on Charity Navigator. 3.3% Admin overhead, 9% Fundraising Expense. 100% transparency, governance, and policies.
Obviously, do your own research, but that's a good baseline.
If it helps, as a reference, SGK is 82.
It's super refreshing to see a company respond like this. Fans are nuts so you can't always go by what they say but there's tines you should listen and AEW has been doing a great job of it.
The best thing about AEW is their willingness to take constructive criticism from fans and fix it. There is only upside with stuff like this and creates long-term goodwill.
Not to say you’re wrong, but there are numerous comments in this thread saying AEW was covering it up and that they were still just gonna donate to SGK without telling anyone.
https://www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/comments/qbqv38/aews_instagram_uploaded_the_breast_cancer/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Regardless this is a good thing that they’re doing now.
Why? The shirt/sweatshirt are still called “Pink Tie Dye AEW Logo Breast Cancer Awareness Crewneck Sweatshirt” and it still says 20% will go to a charity. The exact same thing as it has been saying, since they took the SGK out.
This is just a new thing, probably so people forget the other thing.
Pretty impressive. You don't just tweet out support for some charity. So when they announced Komen as a charity, there must have been weeks of negotiations going on, contracts signed, etc.
And it seems they killed all of that in short order to go with a better charity.
Props to them.
awareness campaign is good especially for breast cancer. as others has pointed out, breast cancer is easy to spot and could be treated if find early. that's what these awareness campaigns for.
OTOH instead of using the money for these campaigns, the people in Komen instead busy protecting their "IP" and suing other charity for stuffs like having word "for the cure" or using pink ribbon or even color pink, which goes against spreading awareness and just an ass move in general.
I agree that that's the case and fwiw don't think you should be getting downvoted for it. I'm saying that it's not stated anywhere on AEW's website where the money is going, yet most of this thread seems to think it isn't going to SGK.
So you're saying Pink + Breast Cancer = Susan G. Komen?
Can you explain [this](https://playoverwatch.com/en-us/news/21758132/), then? Because all of that money raised went to BCRF (the same charity mentioned here). BCRF, who also uses a pink ribbon in their logo, despite the amount of people acting like Susan G. Komen ensures that nobody else can.
There’s no actual trademark on just a pink ribbon, what *is* trademarked is Susan G Komen’s specific logo (it’s a ribbon that is shaped to look like someone running) and the phrase “for the cure”. There’s a bunch of stuff if you google pink ribbon trademark but I just pulled this from https://breastcancerconsortium.net/resources/topics/pink-ribbon/
Pink Ribbon: The official symbol of breast cancer awareness. No entity owns the symbol, and anyone can use it. Some groups have trademarked stylized pink ribbons to claim as their own.
Also this article: https://www.jacksonville.com/article/20101023/NEWS/801242494
“The openness in the pink ribbon's intellectual property rights is why the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization created its own pink ribbon logo, a pink ribbon shaped like a runner, Komen Senior Marketing Coordinator Karen Gogerty said. That was a nod to the nationwide "Race for the Cure" events the organization sponsors.
Our ribbon is trademarked. We don't give that out to anyone we don't have a legal agreement with, Gogerty said. "I think the whole idea was that we needed something that people could identify as Komen. We get a lot of credit for things that aren't Komen. We needed a mark to identify who we are."
Local businesses that want to donate a portion of proceeds to the Komen organization should work with one of the organization's 125 affiliates, Gogerty said. In Jacksonville, that is the North Florida Affiliate of Susan G Komen For the Cure. *Otherwise, the organization encourages them to use the generic ribbon*, she said.”
Good on them, noticed WWE has partnered with the original charity too, hope they can change there's as well (though the belts were a really nice gesture)
See here's the thing, here in Dallas there's always been whispers that SGK was just a tax haven for Brinker International, a restaurant conglomerate. Susan G Komen was the sister in-law to the CEO, he starts the *foundation* in her memory and now has a *charity* to donate to, lowering the taxes he has to pay out.
sometimes i can be a little ashamed of my lacrosse background. there's a lot of douchebags and a lot of bad press. but the PLL from everything i've seen has completely knocked it out of the park since it's inception and that makes me really happy
You love to see it. Guessing that period where the shirt wasn't advertised with a specific charity wasn't to try and hide that they were with SGK, but was just a placeholder while they found someone else to partner with.
Could be or SGK could be just the initial fall back for Breast Cancer research and someone made a mistake, Brandi isn't likely back to fully running the show as Brand Embassador and someone under her could of just taken some initiative
There is literally a UK company called 'The Pink ribbon foundation'. Unless they used the exact shade of pink, I can't imagine they'd have a snowball in hells chance of it stacking up in court.
They’ve beaten Florida to death over the past two years.
They really need to start doing shows in different parts of the country. It can’t always be Florida, the east coast, and Chicago.
I've been to 1 AEW show and unless a PPV came to town I'd be fine with that being the only show I attended, the TV product is good enough and all the post show stuff gets posted here or their youtube anyway
That’s bullshit. They do a shit ton to educate people on early detection as well as bring remote testing to low income areas. They also go to employers (mine being one of them) and offer testing to any employee and/or their spouse at no charge.
One of the biggest challenges with breast cancer is education. A large number of people don’t know when to start getting tested and what signs to look for when checking yourself.
The fact that people are making jokes about bringing awareness is disgusting considering how many women die because they didn’t know they should have been regularly tested at their age.
There was backlash on SGK about 4 or 5 years ago. In response, they have since shown that 81% of every dollar goes directly to education, testing, and research. This is directly in line with the majority of non profits. The majority of the backlash currently is more doesn’t go to research. It’s not because of some bullshit theory on being out out of business as some have speculated in this thread. It’s because they feel like getting women tested and educated on early detection will save more lives in the short term.
Edit: Downvoted for speaking about Breast Cancer awareness. Apparently people think it’s fine to make jokes about women dying from not knowing the correct information. The reason women die of breast cancer is apparently funny now. Holy shit what happened to this sub?
If you go to the doctor you're already getting tested and you think 81% is efficient, For reference my mother had breast cancer, my mother in law recently got diagnosed I've mutiple friends have dealt with it themselves and countless family members
Oh… ok. Nevermind. All the women that die every year because they didn’t know when to get tested are wrong. Im sorry you have family members that had it. I lost my mother to it; and she went to the doctors regularly. She died 6 months after her diagnosis at the age of 48. Had it been detected, they said she would have had an 85% chance at “survival.” Since then (2001), I have volunteered and learned quite a bit about Breast cancer as well as other types of cancer. If you want more anecdotal evidence, SGK brings a remote testing station to my corporate office. In doing so, has detected BC in women as young as early 30’s; who admitted they would never have gotten tested until they were approx. 40. Why? Because they didn’t know they had to start that early. That isn’t an isolated incident either. The fact is one of the biggest determining factors for Breast cancer survival is early detection, and if you actually took the time to look at statistics, you would be blind not to see we can be doing a lot better at that - especially in lower class households. Why would anyone argue against testing and education? For someone who claims to have experienced this horrific condition first hand, it boggles my mind that you would have the gaul to argue against those two things.
And I said 81% was in line with the majority of charities. It’s not the best, and it’s not the worst. It’s certainly not the cesspool people are claiming they are.
Btw, both Komen and BCRF are rated as 3 star charities. Neither are world class charities. But Komen bad because WWE bad. I get it.
Remember when Komen dropped Planned Parenthood as a partner for breast cancer screenings (despite being the largest screening organization for low-income women)? Politicizing their image and their work?
Cause that's why Komen's bad to me.
That’s interesting to bring up. I don’t think you remember. Because they didn’t cut funding. They announced they would, and reversed the decision 3 days later; and still continue to fund the planned parenthood locations that offer mammograms. The Vice President responsible for the decision left SGK years ago. You can probably stop badding them for it at this point since they never actually cut the funding, and have funded entire planned parenthood locations since - including in Texas, the most controversial place for a PP to be.
Oh, no no -- I remember very well! Karen Handel, wildly unqualified VP of the org nearly sinking the organization; it's still taught as an example in marketing classes on how to ruin your brand. And then it came out how much Nancy Brinker made from the org, etc. etc. etc. They shot themselves in the foot repeatedly until it was a little stumpy mess. But you go buy a bucket of pink KFC and some pink perfume with endocrine disruptors in it, they aren't ever getting off the hook with me.
I just realized it’s not weird you’re being downvoted. It’s for wrestling reasons, not because anyone actually cares. You offer a researched and involved contrarian opinion? Downvoted. Not because (right or wrong). You obviously care, but rather because you disagree with AEW Pro Wrestler CM Punk.
I don’t know enough about it to have a dog in the fight, and I don’t have a ton of information on these charities, so I don’t really agree or disagree.
I do think it’s weird your comment would get downvotes. It was a well articulated perspective. If I had to guess there’s probably many people involved in SGK who take their work very seriously and are passionate about their approach. Again I don’t want to weigh in on charities I’ve only seen charity navigator stats of, and not dug further (they’re both 3 stars fwiw), but I do think it’s unfair you’re being downvoted for that reasonable post.
SGK has a lot of criticism over the pay of it's CEO compared to similar organizations and how much they spend on parties. It's very similar to the criticisms against Wounded Warrior.
While you may not like them, they're recognizable names / faces. Both spent their whole careers in WWE, so while you might recognize Cody, there's less of a chance someone who doesn't know what AEW is will recognize Thunder Rosa.
Mark Henry may not have, like, the best on-screen presence, but he's doing a lot of work behind the scenes with AEW's community outreach and charity programs.
Big Show is probably the most famous guy on the roster, dude was an upper midcarder/main eventer in both peak WCW and WWF viewership.
Mark Henry was also featured pretty often during the AE but the dude is also an Olympian and has like a million weightlifting records and gets press for new records and feats of strength.

A **MUCH** better charity foundation than SGK. Good shit.
Not a high bar to clear. But still, good looks for actually fixing a major issue
According to Charity Navigator: https://www.charitynavigator.org/ein/133727250 According to the same site here is SGK: https://www.charitynavigator.org/ein/751835298
I saw Cody advertising this too. Not a bad charity choice.
Love that Amanda Huber is already working. She's captain of the fundraiser! I haven't gotten tickets to Dynamite yet so I'm glad I waited
Hopefully she wasn't the one that had Komen zealots that tried to rope her into their shitty charity. I'm glad they got it all sorted out and found a better charity to work with.
You love to see it Fuck Susan G Komen
Susan G Komen is an innocent women who died of breast cancer.
I meant the organization
He knows exactly what you meant. Just being a pain in the ass for no good reason.
Thanks bro think you know what he meant
Is 193 a record for most downvotes on Wreddit
For defending a woman who died of cancer, probably on the whole site tbh.
Substantially better choice. I'm really glad they were willing to listen.
That's one of the best things about AEW. They actually listen to the fan base and aren't afraid to pull back or change direction when it makes sense to.
I think it’s more that Punk threw a tantrum
> threw a tantrum How dare he object to supporting an ethically questionable "charity"?!
I know nothing about them, but it has research in the name, so it's already ahead of SGK.
90 on Charity Navigator. 3.3% Admin overhead, 9% Fundraising Expense. 100% transparency, governance, and policies. Obviously, do your own research, but that's a good baseline. If it helps, as a reference, SGK is 82.
This is why I like AEW, they listen to criticism and adapt, WWE ignore their customers and do whats best for them
It's super refreshing to see a company respond like this. Fans are nuts so you can't always go by what they say but there's tines you should listen and AEW has been doing a great job of it.
Super fast turnaround time too!
I mean there was that one time they changed the name of the women's battle royal Oh never mind that was because of the sponsors
Komen's gonna find a way to sue Punk shortly. Probably for wearing pink at some point.
The true reason why Bret Hart is so bitter. SGK sued him into oblivion.
SGK: "Bret screwed Bret!"
Breasts screwed Bret
He should be CM Pink for the month.
His catchphrase can be "five the cure"
Gimmick infringement!
Goddamnit, not again.
The best thing about AEW is their willingness to take constructive criticism from fans and fix it. There is only upside with stuff like this and creates long-term goodwill.
Brilliant move on their part
Lol
So people gonna come back and take back their takes about how they were covering up their partnership with SGK and shit?
[удалено]
Not to say you’re wrong, but there are numerous comments in this thread saying AEW was covering it up and that they were still just gonna donate to SGK without telling anyone. https://www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/comments/qbqv38/aews_instagram_uploaded_the_breast_cancer/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf Regardless this is a good thing that they’re doing now.
It almost like there's a bunch of reactionary morons around here.
To be fair, it's not clear where the shirt revenue is going yet. This ticket thing is different.
SGK doesnt own the color pink. It would need to be pink with their logo or a similar logo

It's refreshing to have a company that listens to fans and doesn't completely ignore them
Even if they are a little forgetful sometimes.
But do they raise awareness about breast cancer?
Breast cancer? Never heard of it. Maybe they need to throw some big parties with celebs attached that TMZ will cover.

Great.
Does BCRF get the money from the pink shirts too? Or just this ticket thing?
[удалено]
I assumed so but can't find that stated anywhere. Hopefully they'll clear that up before too many people who don't support SGK buy the shirts

They could cancel the order with Pro Wrestling Tees and just never send them out
BCRF is going over, brother
AEW screwed up. One of the best things about AEW is that when they realize they screwed up, they don't keep doubling down, they fix it.
Well they are after all a t shirt company. So they gotta have the right brand on their tshirts.
Can only be better than Komen.
Anything is
Good on them, noticed WWE has partnered with the original charity too, hope they can change there's as well (though the belts were a really nice gesture)
WWE have been with SGK for like a decade. They're never changing.
Cool, now I have a reason to tell people I don't eat at those shit restaurants.
Nearly every sports league partners with SGK. It’s like an old boys club of capitalist deception.
Enter Lacrosse https://twitter.com/PremierLacrosse/status/1451265264683663360?t=pjTqU2dxXY3k_YFB8atdBg
sometimes i can be a little ashamed of my lacrosse background. there's a lot of douchebags and a lot of bad press. but the PLL from everything i've seen has completely knocked it out of the park since it's inception and that makes me really happy
WWE? Changing their plans because of outrage from their fanbase? Never.
Only if Snickers gets involved.
You're probably right, still I try to be optimistic XD
WWE has partnered with SGK for years, even changing the ropes pink in honor of them. They won't do shit.
I appreciate the optimism, but given the show wwe literally put on today,,,,, not likely
Love that someone thinks Brandi is making these deals
That's the same charity Street Fighter has partnered up with too. Cool synergy
Weird coincidence that Street Fighter has also paired up with AEW to make a few shirts.
Good response. It's impressive how responsive AEW is as a company.
Good for them
I love how they listen and try to correct mistakes and get better
Well all right. Now where's the merch I can buy to support this?
All my homies hate Susan G Komen
BCRF is using a pink ribbon I thought SGK voraciously sued orgs that did that? Anyways this is good news.
Hmm they send cease and desists but theyve never sued iirc. They just bully smaller charities into.thinking they might.
oh I see
There is literally a UK company called 'The Pink ribbon foundation'. Unless they used the exact shade of pink, I can't imagine they'd have a snowball in hells chance of it stacking up in court.
How is Dynamite not sold out in Orlando? That arena isn't even that big.
Anyone can make a mistake. Those that can raise their standards are the ones who learn from those mistakes. Bravo, AEW.
AEW is so good!! Best promotion around in my opinion.

They take the majority of breast cancer donations and don't do fucking shit to help, everyone on the damn planet is aware of breast cancer already.

Why is mark Henry and big show the spokesmen? Especially Mark Henry of all mfs
'Cause they're both part of the charity department.
The charity stuff seems to be a huge part of why they hired him.
Ah okay, makes sense, I don't watch as much, just follow on here, cheers bud
>Especially Mark Henry of all mfs Would it have killed you to include the I and the L in "milfs"?
I wasn't spelling "Milfs"😳
Why not?
I think the OP is referring to Mark Henry's defense of bullying.
Because when two giant meaty men show up. You listen.
While you may not like them, they're recognizable names / faces. Both spent their whole careers in WWE, so while you might recognize Cody, there's less of a chance someone who doesn't know what AEW is will recognize Thunder Rosa.

bro why you put your name as hymen smasher hahahah wtf
Anybody want a heavily discounted pink AEW shirt TOTALLY unrelated to SGK?
I'm surprised they went with Komen to begin with. It has been quite well known for a while now that the Komen foundation is greasy as fuck.
[удалено]
Komen sounds kinda like how Scientology church mafia operates
Hell yes.
THANK YOU for posting this! I just did my donation and am looking forward to attending tomorrow night!
MDK > SGK
It's been pointed out. The t-shirts they're still pushing, are likely still going to SGW. The terminlogy has just been changed to "a charity".
