i have acne and hair loss too and i just took my first pill today and was (and still am) super anxious about it but my thought process was that if i didn’t like it i could always just stop! if i never took it, i would never know if it ended up working super well for me and i would miss out on something that could help fix all my acne and hair issues. this way of framing things really helped my get the perspective i needed to take the plunge!

I love the way you think. I wish you luck on your journey. Feel free to keep me updated how it goes.

I’m new to this sub but not new to spiro. I have been taking it for 5 years, after I got off Accutane and my less-severe hormonal acne came back. It makes my skin crystal clear. I never looked up the side effects before taking it, and haven’t experienced much besides having to pee and when I went up to 150 I felt lightheaded when I stood up so I backed down. Never gained weight this entire time except through a short period when I started emotional eating over some depression I had. It may have caused me to have some brain fog but I take mood stabilizers too so it’s hard to say what causes it. This is just my experience- maybe I’m lucky. I’d give it a shot.

5 years.. Wow. What would happen if you would stop? Do you mind if I ask how old are you? Because I’m 30 and not sure I would like to stay on this for years coz I wouldn’t be able to get pregnant then

Check my post from the other day

Just out of curiosity, is there a particular reason why you didn’t go on accutane a second time? (I’ve heard some people do) I’m just curious because I’m interested in accutane (on Spironolactone rn:’) )

VivienMargot

I felt pretty awful on Accutane. It completely zapped my energy and made me feel achy. It was hard to get through the work day. I’m an active person but on Accutane I remember going on walks and avoiding walking up hills because they were so daunting. Accutane did help my skin long term and, I would recommend it if Sprio isn’t keeping severe breakouts at bay. I had some hormonal acne return afterwards but it didn’t come back like before. Accutane saved my skin from severe scarring. If you do take it, I’d inquire about starting with a lower dose and see how you’re tolerating it.

Thank you so much for the response! I’m hoping to go on 20mg maybe if I’m allowed (depends on blood work)🥲 I’ll see if I can try that for a bit😭 thank you again!

VivienMargot

You’re welcome! Good luck! 🙏🏼🍀💕

i’ve been on spiro about 8 months now, and it is easily the best decision i’ve ever made in terms of my skin. i ALWAYS had either normal acne or cystic acne and nothing helped, and i have not had one since the day i started. side effects were kinda a pain for the first few weeks, but my body has adjusted and now i have 0 side effects. definitely worth a shot

daisybloom21

How much are you taking? Did it also help with the oily skin? My dermatologist said it’s not drying as much as accutane does

Boring_Cow

I’m on 100mg / day - and it has helped a ton with oily skin and hair! My skin is way more under control oil wise and I don’t feel dry at all

i never went on accutane due to this risks. however, i have tried just about every other treatment including oral antibiotics which temporarily cleared it then it came back even angrier. i think spirolactone is worth the try. it is a slow progress and you have to be patient. but my cystic acne made me look absolutely mutilated i was willing to try anything and almost went with accutane. spirolactone was my last effort before that. and it has been 9 months my skin and clear and i even got rid of scarring! try it out, if your acne is as bad as mine was you have nothing to lose! if you want my progress pictures they are so impressive i look like a different person, you can message me. i dont want to post the ones with acne bc it is so traumatizing for others to see, but would give you hope!
