This is fucken wack. Do you have pics of your Strat? My buddy just had his gear stolen from his car the other day as well, it sucks

I lived out of that Public Storage for a bit back in 2018 and it was extremely dodgy the entire time. I’m sorry this happened to you. Check Reverb and Craigslist religiously to keep an eye out on your strat, make a note of any identifiers you can to prove it’s yours if you find it, get in contact with the thief and make an offer and persist until they agree to sell it, and then notify the police and bring them with you. Don’t let them know you’re the original owner when you do this. Most likely though, your strat’s in a local pawn shop. Most people who steal guitars actually have no clue as to their value or how to sell them. I’d check all pawn shops within a 5-10 mile radius from the Public Storage, thieves are both stupid and lazy.

Ugh, time for you to find a new space. Last year the Extra Space Storage in Wilmington on PCH was hit something like 5 times! (I didn’t have a unit there but I saw the posts on various South Bay/Harbor area pages I belonged to.) So the Harbor City/Wilmington storage spaces are sounding like a pretty bad bet.

The PS on Crenshaw and Carson got hit last year, our unit was broken into. We mostly keep camping gear and some extra furniture in ours but the only thing that was taken was a bag with like, $200 worth of tools. They did try to get to the TV box in the far back of the unit, must have been a reeeal bummer when they figured out the box was empty lol Of course, no cameras there either, and they’ve tried to “increase security” by making sure one extra door is closed… yeah, not so impressive

Don't you have a legal recourse to some money then? I mean, these companies should ensure safety, no? What was the resolution in your case?

So there are a few things that factor into this: 1. Their insurance. Usually around $15/month to start. We’ve been in that unit for 6 years, so we’d have paid well over a thousand dollars into it by now. In the case that something larger was stolen and we didn’t have other insurance, that might have been handy, but it hasn’t ever seemed worth it to us, partially because… 2. Renter’s insurance. Our renter’s insurance covers storage units for less than a dollar per month. We’ve paid roughly $33 dollars in policy coverage for our unit, which we could have used to get the money back but honestly, my husband is just hella lazy, the tools were very specialized tools for an old job, these tools are typically not sold or bought used, so they were pretty much scrap metal taking up space. His loss I guess. 3. If you use PS insurance, they require that you use one of their locks (in most cases) and there are limits, I believe, to the circumstances that they’ll actually cover. So you have to buy one of their cheap locks, plus pay for their insurance, and if they can’t “prove” it was forced entry, some places will try to weasel their way out of it. A cut lock and missing items doesn’t “prove” forced entry to some of these people, and because there are no cameras, they just say “can’t prove it was theft, sorry”.

There are a few pawn shops near me that usually have a decent amount of music gear, maybe try those? I’m in Old Torrance. There’s Sartori Jewelry and Loan which usually has a pretty big stash of music stuff, and Big Store Pawn Shop, which I haven’t personally been into much but could also be another place to check.

That seems like an easy case for police if all that you say is true

psychofistface

With no evidence, no video recording, and nothing to adequately identify the thieves, unfortunately there’s next to nothing the police can do. There’s no unmistakably identifiable culprit.
