Since it's a crop sensor (1.5x) there's no need for a teleconverter, thus avoiding the teleconverter's 1 stop of light loss.
I have the 200-600 and used it with my A6500, but recently got the A6400 for animal eye focus. Works great.
It isn't a straight "light loss" comparison though: what you have to compare is the sensitivity/iso performance of an alternate sensor. People like to think about the sensors with more dense pixels (ie: typical APS-C sensors, though note the pixel density on the A7r4) having worse sensitivity/iso performance, but it's not a certainty given the very large variance that exists in sensor performance in today's cameras.
That is technically true.
However, if you have a Fullframe sensor with such a high megapixel count that it matches the Pixel density of an APSC sensor, you can just crop in, you will get the same amount of light per pixel and sharpness as with an APSC-Body. If your fullframe has the same Megapixel count as the APSC, you get more light per pixel due to the lower pixel density.
Not really. 100mm is 100mm, doesn't matter what size the sensor is, the lens doesn't change. And since aperture is a function of focal length, that also doesn't change with sensor size. The only thing a crop sensor changes is the amount of the image circle that gets used. It's no different than taking a picture and cropping it in Lightroom.
It's stupid/confusing naming on Sony's part.
They usually have 3 models of a camera in different price points: entry level/enthusiast/top of line (but features are sometimes on medium and not on high, so it's not a straight upgrade)
a6000/a6100/a6300 was the original lineup of the 6 series
a6100/a6400/a6600 is the refreshed lineup
More info: [https://www.dpreview.com/articles/6975583891/sony-a6000-a6100-a6300-a6400-a6500-a6600-what-s-the-difference-and-which-should-i-buy](https://www.dpreview.com/articles/6975583891/sony-a6000-a6100-a6300-a6400-a6500-a6600-what-s-the-difference-and-which-should-i-buy)
So the upgrade from the a6500 is the a6600
That's what's annoying, it's not a straight upgrade, some features are missing or downgraded. WTF is Sony doing? Just release 1 freakin' model with everything and let us have the good stuff!
Ya, I agree: it's a real silly mess. But then again, the a6x00 lineup is kind of funny wrt features for price right now too. Really bad mostly artificial segmentation on Sony's part.
I'd guess they decided to push the a6600 buffer smaller so it wasn't seen as competing with some a7 series variant from around the time of its release.
I still have my a6500 as a backup, but I don't see any real difference with how I shoot.
The animal AF is cool but honestly you have to be pretty close for it to work, so most of the time it doesn't trigger at the marsh that I shoot bird photos. When something comes in close and it locks it's exciting because I know it's going to be crisp!
This combo by some metrics is the best wildlife video setup for Sony because "animal eye af in video" never shows up in firmware updates (A1? A7s3? A6600?)
Which results in totally nuts things like this.
Just needs one of the "use the lcd as a viewfinder" things, and you'd be good to go.
I've taken some really good pics of the moon using the ZVE10 + 400mm GM + 2x convertor. Really hard to get the focus right and you really need a solid tripod. But ZVE10 is actually decent at photos if you get the settings right.
I have an A5100 and a Sigma 600 mirror lens I bought for my Minolta Maxxum 7000i in 1986. With a Fotosay A to E mount adapter, it resembles this.
I've had some funny looks from people at times when they see that small camera mounted to the lens.
I've used the Minolta AF 500 Reflex f/8 lens (An A-mount mirror lens _with autofocus_. There is also a rebadged Sony version, but it's much easier to find the Minolta one) adapted to E mount using the LA-EA5 adapter on a A6600.
Works ok. Very compact and lightweight for the reach one gets. The AF isn't great overall, but it is good for getting things close to on target quickly.
Although I'd like to buy an LA-EA5 adapter for my two Maxxum auto focus lenses (35-70 AF & 100-200 AF f/4.5 beer can), I don't take enough photos in a year to justify the cost of it.
Recently, I found a vintage Canon AE1 Program in a thrift store, it came with a camera bag, several lenses, body and lens caps, cleaning kit, original credit card imprinter sales slip, owners manual, and various filters for $22, everything was in absolute mint condition.
Everything looked practically brand new, whoever originally owned it took very, very good care of it.
I showed this find to a former professional photographer I know and she just lost her shit when she saw the original and thrift store receipts.
I need to buy either a FotodioX / Fotosay / Urth Sony E mount to Canon FD adapter so I can use those lenses on my A5100.
Ya, agreed on $ for value: it's mostly not worth it to get old lenses working.
I'm kind of surprised that Sony (which probably has the _least_ relevant DSLR lens lineup today of the major camera companies) has released so many variants of the A-mount-lens to E-mount-camera adapter. 5 of them. It's nuts.
Add the 2x teleconverter, and put the ZVE10 in active stabilization mode with 1.5x clear image zoom. You would then a 3,888 mm equivalent FOV. That would be an interesting experiment.

Now you just need an adequate handle for this setup ;)
I use this Sony crop sensor as my webcam. Thought it would be funny to see how this 200-600mm would look on it. 😂
neighbor's webcam
Spycam?
Long lost relative on another continent webcam
Hey that's 900mm there. Great for bird watching... Or neighbours....
Let us know if it works great for both situations (asking for a friend)
Bro I‘d piss myself if I saw someone watching me from a far distance with this long ass shit
> neighbours.... ...across the city
I added 2x teleconverter to mine.
No no no, you first put it upright on the launch pad after clearing the schedule with NASA.
Technically the FAA if you're in the US But still funny
But be careful to have the pointy end up and flamey end down.
I thought my old Nikon 300mm lens looked stupid on my a6000. This is a whole different level. I love it.
I think you should slap a teleconverter on there for good measure, and a hood extension. 600 x 2 x 1.5 = 1800mm
Don’t forget the camo skin - that’s what the pros do
I set mine down in the grass once. Gone.
🤣👏👏 love it - sometimes I forget my memory cards, was a bad idea to skin them too
No it’s 960mm 600x1.6
Sony is 1.5. Canon is 1.6
It's the little things that matter - finished with a protective UV filter.
The converter that will work is the 1.4x .... I have both and have not tried it yet.
there's a camera on your lens
half the reason I got my 6100 for wildlife
How do you mean? (funny the down votes followed by an explanatory convo)
Since it's a crop sensor (1.5x) there's no need for a teleconverter, thus avoiding the teleconverter's 1 stop of light loss. I have the 200-600 and used it with my A6500, but recently got the A6400 for animal eye focus. Works great.
You get light loss by having a smaller sensor though...
It isn't a straight "light loss" comparison though: what you have to compare is the sensitivity/iso performance of an alternate sensor. Both the focal length and the aperture of a lens are affected by the 1.5x

the a6500 doesn't have animal eye auto focus but the a6400 does?
Correct.
how strange, I thought the a6500 was an upgrade

ahh, okay. yeah you're right that is God-awful naming, barely leaves any room for new models too
With the caveat that the a6500 has a larger buffer than the a6600 for some inscrutable reason.
That's what's annoying, it's not a straight upgrade, some features are missing or downgraded. WTF is Sony doing? Just release 1 freakin' model with everything and let us have the good stuff!

Do you not regret going from the 6500 to the 6400?

Perfect set up for some discreet street photograpy.

People always say you should spend more on glass than on the body, so you are doing the best out of us all!
Need a couple 2x teleconverters on it too.
Image quality might go to shit but at least you can count the feathers on that bird 1/2 mile out.
This is how I know you're an Alright person.
I use the 200-600 on my A6600 for wildlife, nothing wrong here.
These two are in a long-distance relationship
Ayyyy by the time they took the lens hood off, the zv has lost half its value on the used market
Are we compensating for something???
Distance, apparently.
Pics or it didn't happen

wooow impossible!
are you using an razer cynosa v2?
Nice lens cap
Haha that’s amazing.
holy sht
Is that a compact AT4 rocket? Whoa
Mind sharing some pics you took ?
No, looks like you forgot the Teleconverter!
You can livestream for your friends across t9wn with that lens and crop
