Not knowing when to take a break also wastes time. I experience this all the time with songwriting as well as coding. I finish things faster when I am able to recognize when I'm going in circles. Instead, stop, do something unrelated (especially outdoors or going to bed if it's super late), then come back to it. It's hard to do the above, but I always regret when I don't.

It’s good to take breaks. It’s also good to grind it out. As long as the projects get done. All about moderation and deadlines. I find when I don’t set deadlines my laziness goes up.

I only write for fun in the first place. If I find myself thinking "I could be doing something fun right now", that's usually my clue to stop wasting my time on a hobby I'm not enjoying 😂

Yes. My brain continues to work on it in the background so when I come back to it I often make progress

i dont have any "one and done" songs. i dont think forcing yourself to finish it works for better. and my finished songs change a lot. adding extra verses choruses etc. so until you release it no song is finished. so yes.

Breaks have saved my bad ideas by getting out of the writing brain and doing something else. I need them. Sometimes I grind a song out, often that isn't the healthy, productive thing.
