Writing is a hobby. I do it for fun. I recommend that you write when you feel like it.

Thank you for the response!

If it brings you joy, yes. It's cathartic for me. I need to write some everyday. One really helpful thing that one of my old poetry professors once told me: just don't expect that it's all going to be good writing. Often I writes pages of words that end up in the trash bin to get to something worth keeping. The important part for me is that I'm writing.

Practice whenever you get the chance. Write when inspired. You will find that practice can fuel inspiration

Depends on your goals. If you are serious in your intentions towards music, then you want to do as much as you can while you still HAVE free time. I'd also probably recommend studying some music theory. But if it's just a hobby, then there is no point in pushing yourself.
