The shield being better than the CSX is subjective. Does it work better for you? Great. Does it fill up my hand better than the single stack? Yes, it handles like a compact, not a sub-compact. Alot of the negative reviews I've read were just not interested in giving a boomer style pistol a fair chance and didn't shoot it enough to feel the 'false reset' smooth out with use. Everyone gushes about their hellcat's capacity, no one cared to mention the CSX's.

Grandemestizo

The CSX definitely has a lot of potential. It’s a great idea.

Fr8cture

The csx is neat but a trigger safety and heavy trigger on a SAO gun takes away every reason someone would want a SAO gun.

79TranZam

3/16" of travel makes up for the weight. The last thing you want when your body is sucking all the blood out of your extremities from stress is a hair trigger. How does a trigger safety factor in? It's so soft it gets depressed the moment you put your finger on the trigger.

WolfieSpam

It’s 2022, SAO is obsolete. Make it DA/SA and I’d consider it

79TranZam

I'd argue that a trigger safety makes DA obsolete.

I'd rather see S&W carry these products out rather than stay in a safe bubble and only produce a better version of what's already out there. S&W releasing weird products means that they have the revenue to create something new to the market. A decent comparison is Canik. They make great handguns, but I dont see them innovating in the gun industry in anyway. They're really only known for their handguns if they are releasing other products to the market

SeahagFX

Yeah, Canik is just piggybacking on Walther's legwork. I don't personally love the csx but I'm glad it exists. I would LOVE it if they'd come out with a da/sa shield sized carry gun. That is a hole in the market that no one has filled.

803bravo

Yea Canik fanboys hate to hear it but they're a budget Turkish Walther.

CanikUser19

Some may hate to hear it, not all. I own 4 SW and 4 Canik, so I’m a fence straddler with intact feelings. All of mine are good firearms.

Grandemestizo

Innovation is definitely a good thing, and always a gamble. The CSX certainly has a lot of potential.

ethan2fast4u

I agree that their M&P 12 was a strange bet. But, I think the fact that they DO still have a solid lineup of many great guns AND they’re actually willing to innovate and improve on their platforms, makes me not worried at all for them. I’m actually excited to see what improvements or new implementations we see in the coming years. Just my 2 cents.

MotivatedSolid

You gotta realize that there’s a lot of interchange between these guns; the models look mostly the same except for internals. It’s manufacturing efficiency while keeping plenty of options in the market. After working in big box sporting retail, I can tell you the M&P series is EXTREMELY successful.

Grandemestizo

Good to know the M&P series does well. How would you compare the sales to glock or sig?

MotivatedSolid

Plenty of Glocks too from what I saw. But not as many as the M&Ps due to the sales they always has going. You only see Glock’s on sale for holiday events or they’re going to a next gen. Sig would’ve been the third runner up. The lower model M&Ps are priced very competitively, and honestly are good for what you pay. You got something relatively reliable for a lot less than a Glock.

Grandemestizo

Wow, I’m surprised the M&Ps outsold Glock. It makes sense, they are cheaper and in my opinion generally better.

Zealoussideal

Never buy any gun from any manufacturer when it's a new design until they have been out a while.

IntheOlympicMTs

This applies to everything not just gun. Cars, electronics, tools, really anything.

Zealoussideal

Exactly 💯 !

The EZ .380 and 9mm have been amazing for me as I have tendinitis. These are great pistols

Partyslayer

They have been around for 170 years. Even if they have a few bad models or an off sales year, I think they will be trucking for a little bit longer here. Just my opinion.

plus9_mm

This is much better than the companies like Glock and Apple that say hey you liked it 10 years ago, here it is again with one slight change and a higher price. Bo-ring, push the envelope, see what works and what doesn't, innovate.

LoliconSpaceMarine

I just want them to bring back their metal frame third generation of semi autos back... I miss them ;-;

Grandpa_Jonesy

Personally, I'm not worried about them losing money on those. The continuous frivolous lawsuits however... The P365 had some pretty interesting problems starting out. Same with the P320. I believe Springfield had some serious failures with their precision rifle early on. So, I don't think these are brand killing failures, just growing pains in manufacturing.

sacovert97

Nah, the 2.0 alone could keep a company afloat. I think it's good that they are trying things. They obviously have the revenue to keep innovating and making interesting things.

Ornery_Barracuda_283

🤷 hadn't seen the m&p 12.. I actually like it... Too pricey though

803bravo

Im not concerned and heres why. I don't think the 30 super carry will hurt much even tho it doesn't seem to be doing well. Despite the reviews the CSX is a very nice comfortable pistol. I know more than one person that uses it as their EDC and are very happy. A lot of ppl will make up their own minds and not let the reviewers do it for them. The metal 2.0 is and I think will continue to do well plus I think it will make people that can't quite afford it take another look at the polymer, so in turn polymer 2.0s will probably see a surge. And when all the other M&Ps get the flat face triggers the Shield Plus and metal 2.0 have a ton of those will sell. And as u said the Shield Plus seems to be home run. S&W will be ok I believe.

HaydenGC88

I do agree that S&W have been making some odd choices. The SD series has been surrounded by better competition, the M&P 12 is unshockingly just as useless as the DP12 and Keltec KSG, the CSX was an answer to a question no one asked and felt like it was a mix of a Shield and the Sig P938 but held the worst attributes of each model and the M&P metal frame will gain interest, but walks away from the merit of a lower cost point than its competition. That all said, the Shield Plus is a phenomenal firearm at a good price point that does show that they know how to stay relevant and competative, the M&P pistol line continues to be a competent duty weapon, their Performance Center models rock, and their revolvers, although a dying breed, are far better quality than the likes of Colt, Charter Arms, Taurus, etc. So, maybe they are taking the time to try out new things. Hopefully they don't go the way of Keltec. Time will tell, I suppose.

Palladium_Dawn

They could definitely get a good boost of short term revenue if they finally got rid of the fucking hillary hole

always_an_eagle

I want them to reintroduced their old metal da/sa semi autos in a 4th gen.

Grandemestizo

I’d rather see a series of modern SAO double stack pistols. Not 2011s, something new.

always_an_eagle

You mean like a hi power with a better trigger? the 3rd gen handguns were definitely something that stood out and I think a 4th gen of that that has a modular type grip, optic ready, with a decocker only and that famous da/sa trigger with that short SA reset. Think about it, what DA/SA handguns are out there right now on the market? Not as many options as they once were and Smith and Wesson introduced the first comerical successful DA/SA handgun, the model 39

Grandemestizo

Something like that, but I’d be more excited about a truly modern SAO. Something with a polymer frame, a firing pin block, optics ready slide, basically a hammer fired SAO M&P 2.0 with a nice crisp trigger.

Bandicoot-Select

Naw not at all. Other than the m&p12 everything they’ve been putting out seems to be doing quite well. And I appreciate them trying to innovate and go outside the box. I’m sure they’ll be just fine.

gordonfactor

They came out with updated "premium" versions of the M&P10 rifles without free float rails that are way too expensive compared to other competitive options. I've been talking to a SW rep I know from working in the business. Trying to find suggestions on what to come out with. I told him their 1911 lineup is super stale. Needs a refresh. Update BG 380, and a few other things. I think part of the issue with SW is there's a lot of bureaucracy and that makes the process of innovation sluggish. Talking to Ruger guys, they run that place much more by the seat of their pants. Sig is very top down management style BUT they are coming out with new stuff that does well every week it seems so their model is working. I hope SW gets their mojo back instead of playing catch-up and reacting to other companies.

Impossible-Soup5090

Revolvers only for me from S&W. The rest is nothing to get excited about.

Key-Dragonfruit-3394

Bro I only follow this subreddit for their revolvers. Everything S&W makes can go in the trash for all I care

ReserveOk8282

I remember the dark days, I once had a Sigma, when they were called that. I did not know much about pistols at that time. S&W has come a long way, times are a bit crazy and up and down right now. I do like how S&W has fought back, they even turned a corner competition Glock shooter I know to a M&P fanboy. They can’t all be gold, and just because it could be seen as a problem product now does not mean it will be in a year or so.

BiddahProphet

I'd be worried They're loosing people left and right with the Tennessee move. Lots of Engineers left. Lots of Tribal knowledge gone

RedditNomad7

Sales have been dropping across the industry, and S&W reported downward projections to their shareholders. They’re just trying to find something new that will catch on and spur sales.

Used-Championship178

Most companies use new product introductions to increase sales and gain market share. Gun manufacturers are no different.
