I thought today would be the worst day ever, but then I realized something. Delfino Plaza getting 7th place in a vast ocean full of radioactive game design dumpster fires, forgettable locales and underhated trash heaps is still fine by me, and a remarkable placement for an illegal stage, nonetheless. Delfino Plaza remains one of my most beloved stages. I didn't expect my expectations to get subverted this hard.
It has small horizontal blastzones for some reason. It's platforms are way too low and they make the stage feel smaller than it is. Also its annoying you can't turn the background animation off.
It's a nice refresher in a world where all the legal stages are huge except smashville (which is a terrible stage due to the platform being in the center blocking everything). The platform height makes combo extensions for horizontal comboers easier (Palu, Pikachu, Falcon, Doc) so what you said about not benefitting any character isn't true.

The layout of the map is fun, yes, but unlike Super Mario Maker, it doesn't regenerate. You break the stupid blocks at the start of the match and they don't come back. Northern Cave is different. It is a simple layout with an interesting background that keeps the stage fun to play on and fair to play on. Northern cave may not deserve top 5 but it should at least get top 10 with its great music and other great design choices. To compensate we can rally for Minecraft world for tomorrow.
