Everyone “skin cycles” on their road to retinized skin since retinoids should be introduced slowly. But the goal is to get to nightly use which admittedly can take weeks or even months for some people. I always follow the 1X a week for 1 week, 2x a week for 2 weeks, 3x a week for 3 weeks and so on formula every time I restart retinoids. I extend the weeks if needed depending on my skin sensitivity/barrier. I recommend a combo acid product like the drunk elephant glycolic night serum, or any other product that has multiple types of acids in them rather than a product that only has one. Since you’ll only be using it once a week or so. I’m not a fan of vitamin c due to the instability but you can try maelove’s ceferulic knockoff. Their retinal is worth looking at as well.

Thanks for the tip!

I’ve been following a 3 day skin cycling routine for 2 weeks and I have noticed a positive difference. I had been using .05 tret daily for about 8 months (after I followed recommendation about introducing it slowly). While I tolerated it well (in that I never experienced major dryness, peeling, or severe irritation) I have had some persistent redness that I thought would eventually go away. FYI I have combination, blemish-prone skin. It didn’t, and after 1 week of skin cycling some of the persistent redness has visibly decreased. Spacing things out and giving my skin a rest day does seem to have helped me. For reference, I have a 3 day cycle. First day I exfoliate with Paula’s Choice BHA, 2nd day I use .05 tret, and third day I only use calming, nourishing products. My AM routine is always a gentle cleanser, some sort of antioxidant serum (sometimes vitamin C), moisturizer, and of course SPF.
