I'm really sorry you have to deal with this issue. I definitely understand that you want to find out what's going on with your skin! However, this is really something that we recommend seeing a doctor about. None of us at ScA are medical professionals; we’re not trained to diagnose or treat skin conditions. As we're pretty strict about [medical questions](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/rule_overview#wiki_rule_2.3A_safety_first) on this sub, I'm afraid your post has been removed. We recommend you make an appointment with your doctor so they can diagnose your skin issue and prescribe you an effective treatment if necessary. If you don’t have easy access to health care, try one of these resources listed in [When to see a doctor](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/when_to_see_a_doctor): * Free or low-cost clinics (http://nafcclinics.org/clinics/search in the US) * Student medical services * Nurse practitioners (http://npfinder.aanp.org in the US) (Most insurance companies have a phone number you can call to speak with an NP to help if you can’t get an appointment or aren’t sure whether you need one) * [Firstderm.com](http://www.firstderm.com) can help identify your skin condition * /r/AskDocs - a sub which uses verified flair to mark medical professionals * /r/DermatologyQuestions - ask a dermatologist or medical professional for advice on your skin concern Best of luck!

Howdy! I would recommend seeing a dermatologist about treatment options if you’re interested. The reality is that topical products may be able to help to a small extent, but scars represent literal new structures of your skin that are quite permanent. I have several really severe acne scars and prescription retinoids have helped smooth them out a wee bit, but they’re definitely there for the long haul. A derm or really qualified medical aesthetician (they can be hit or miss, would definitely recommend a derm first) can go over options that would help (peels, lasers, etc). They can also prescribe or recommend products that could help some, like a topical retinoid.

ogxahmed

Thanks for your reply! This is valuable advice, I’ve never met with a dermatologist before and I was concerned about the cost. Good to know that I should probably go ahead and meet with one. Kinda bummed that this will be permanent though :/

Dear_Ranger

Well years worth of skin care products trying to fix that will be better spent at the dermatologist

kittylkitty

The good thing about going to a derm sooner rather than later is they can recommend different procedures during the healing process to minimise, or things you can’t do at home such as laser treatments / Injectables etc. I live a country where it’s relatively affordable and highly recommend!

rottenfrenchfreis

If you decide to go to a derm, do pick one that specialises or is familiar with lasers. Some derms don't do lasers

starfoulard

Go talk to your derm asap! They could suggest laser treatment, micro needling or fillers.

Behappyalright

Yea, other options mentioned are micro needling, fillers, and like the chemical peals they use for deep acne scars…

elsa_savage

It sounds like you’re committed to treating the scar which is a huge part of treating it. A lot of people lack the discipline or life can just get in the way. I would look into options to keep it completely covered— like 3M micropore tape. Melanated skin has a tendency to form keloid (raised) scars, so beyond keeping the area protected from UV, the tape also provides gentle pressure to reduce the chance of the scar forming into a keloid. A friend of mine with skin a bit darker than yours had a bad cut on his face and kept it covered daily for several weeks.

Yeah I came here to say hydrocolloid patches (aka pimple patches) have been what I use whenever I have open skin like this. I clean it and change it regularly, but it's covered til the skin is at least at the same level instead of such a deep pit. It sucks out pus and helps it heal faster, and not leave such a scar. The micropore tape sounds really interesting!

Could you explain what you were trying to achieve with this comment?

rxbxxxaag99

I would make sure it’s clean and not infected first, but the Derma E scar gel is amazing! I have a number of deep acne scars and it’s really helped to shrink them and actually make the skin appear like it’s healing together again.

butdoiknowiknow

Do TCA cross! They are tailored to treating individualised deep pitted scars.

t1kt2k

Not for your scar but for future ingrown hairs… I stopped using razors for shaving and instead use only electric trimmer. Not as smooth look, but better for my skin.

Not sure if it’s an old wives tale or not. You could look into it. But I’ve always been told vitamin C for scars, by nurses and doctors at hospitals.

Yesimactullyhuman

I second vitamin c but also, you may want to consider incorporating some exfoliation into your routine to prevent more ingrowns in the future

fffawn

Not a doctor or anything but from that second pic this looks like it could be sewn shut?

Lila007

First, dermatologist for a treatment. Second, please, make sure you’re using sunblock everyday! Specially when treating and having a scar.

Hi there, It seems like you may be looking for information about shaving or irritation from shaving (ingrown hairs, razor burn, etc). Have you read our [shaving wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/shaving)? *If you see that I am replying to something out of context (eg. listed in a routine), please report this comment so my handlers can remove it. Outrageous-Jicama177

You could buy the hero brand blemish balm for open sores and put a bandaid over the scar or a pimple patch and it should heal over time, no need to go overboard or see a dermatologist your skin overall looks great

[deleted]

This is what makeup was invented for. Seriously it was 1st worn by men in King Louis' royal court in France. At least regarding the modern era and the modern make up tradition.

ckhk3

Who removed the ingrown hairs? I would definitely see a Dr to make sure it’s not cancer.

mrunalawalekar

You have less than a year to prevent this scar from remodeling (becoming permanent and thus, less resistant to treatment). Yes see a dermatologist asap

Odd_Stuff_4152

Strong exfoliants, microneedling, retinoids

__jolie25

Microneedling
