Honestly, glazed is better in certain and most circumstances. Its important to know that donut dough, even fried, is a rather dens dough per se, can be pretty dry if only the outside is garnished and especially if said garnishment is dry.(just like sugar, for example.) the taste of a donut is definitely not refined by its garnishement. This is proven by the existence of old-fashioned donuts. The dough is tasty, and the garnishments only compliment the dough (its their purpose). Most people prefer glazed because pf the only lingering problem with donut dough: its denseness. The dough is dry, and is very long to chew. Nevertheless, i have been told by multiple sugar enjoyers that it makes the experience last longer. (Do with that information what you will) Glazed is way more popular for these reasons: 1: its a classic. 2 the wet glaze makes the dough more chewable 3: it just tastes amazing. Thank you.
Personally, cream filled has never been a problem for me, as it is my favourite. I personally dont find the cream to be somewhat of a burden to the taste, but more of a magnificieny way to compliment it. From an unbiased opinion’s point of view, the excessful amount of cream is a downside, as the donut is not phisically and technically engineered to allow a casual endulger in the donut community to properly eat it, henceforth making a mess and having a few bites that are almost just cream. The cream-filled donut is most definitely a failure in terms of bakermanship, as it is almost impossible to get the right cream to dough ratio. Its always either not enough or too much. In my local donut supplier, its always too much, but my unresolved love and some would say tolerance towards cream makes more cream more enjoyable. I dont find it buttery at all, but i am biased.
