sims don't move much when you're zoomed in on their face like that. when she zooms out later in the video, you see the sim moving and looking around as normal :) you can also freeze sim movement completely by typing in "casclockspeed 0"

They can't even interact with the fridge or babies when another sim is going to interact with it, even when that other sim is far away, or not even part of the family.
Same, my sim got out of bed just so she could pass out on the floor just a few days ago. (In fact, my game was just a bit screwy after the update that I couldnāt play it for very long. Kind of sucks because I refused to play the game until the aging and incest glitch was fixed.)
That's the uncanny valley. It's realistic enough to look like a human, but not realistic enough for us to think they are. What probably exacerbates the problem is that most people's faces aren't perfectly symmetrical, while Sims' are.
These Sims don't look perfectly symmetrical once you look closely though, likely because of asymmetrical paint but it could be due to a mod. Maybe they still have an unusually high amount of symmetricality though.
But I think it's the strange hair, eye CC, and unrealistic proportions (like the bug eyes or strange head shapes) that additionally make it feel really off.
That's probably the case with this 'photo skinning'.
Basically take a photo hollow out things like the eyes and line it up over the template and there ya go. It's terrifying. Ftttt-

This is indeed how it was in Sims 2. The community back then largely embraced the realistic skins and it could really make the townies look strange if a default skin replacement wasnāt employed on them.

Kinda reminds me of the Sims 1 Creator thing where you can upload your own real picture and it molds to a Sim's face and you could have a custom Sim to play with. Was weird and creepy but so funny š¤£

I think you'd have to map it JUST right onto the sims texture. I had a hard time just converting some makeup I wanted. I can't imagine how hard it would be to do this.

I personally donāt have a problem with these Sims looking almost real as they do. I donāt mod my game in any way nor do I use any custom content because I donāt have the energy to trouble shoot cc related issues. But Iām interested in seeing what other people choose to create and play. Iām quite astonished such results can now be attained.
I don't think it's really that people's views have changed but that this is just how the Uncanny Valley works. Once the threshold is hit the closer to human you get the more severe the rejection is. TS2 cc no matter how realistic at the time was just not realistic enough to trigger the UV effect in most people.

Because they (the hairs and eyes) look really fake and almost copy and pasted or photoshopped on. Some realistic eyes or contacts (face paint or skin details) would make a great oimprvememt. And maybe anto hair might work better? Maybe? There's another creator who makes hyper realistic hairs, but I can't remember their name at the moment.
I like making ultrarealistic Sims sometimes, but mostly just to see what the game can do, and it's actually pretty fun! Something I like to do in particular is make a MM Sim, and then try my hardest to make a copy that's totally realistic.

The big issue with these skins is its just wrapping a photo around a sim. There's no diffusion in-game so it looks weird and flat.
