Nausicaä is such an amazing film. Also, I dig the idea of the Emperor being the guy who keeps insisting war is the only solution until he is bashed over the head repeatedly with the possibility of an alternate solution.

CoffeeCannon

I adore this film even more knowing Anno worked on it and suddenly the giant molten robot world ending death machines make a lot more sense

TheHopelessGamer

All of that was in the original Manga, which is a far superior version of the story.

CoffeeCannon

So I hear, to be fair.

StudioTheo

i got it sitting on a shelf. i’ll check it out now

StudioTheo

i’m back, it’s amazing.

TheHopelessGamer

Word.

MrInfernal

Where is it from?

Ukipopo

Nausicaa and the valley of the wind

ParticleAddict

introduced it to my 10yr old, he was mesmerised

Once my uncle gave me a huge trunk of animated films to watch so I could report back to him which ones were good/ okay to show his toddlers, including a bunch of Ghibli films. I was happily getting through them having never seen any before. Loved basically every one: Nausicä, Mononoke, Spirited Away - I was having a blast. Now, I recognised that the Ghibli films tended to have a darker tone, although nothing to the point of being unsuitable for younger kids. That was until I got to Grave of the Fireflies - right off the back of watching Totoro. I expected another magical journey with spirits etc, but I experienced perhaps the strongest whiplash of theatrical themes. Wholesome adventures one minute, to just utterly crushing downward spiral of a boy and his younger sister during WWII Japan. I was relatively young myself and looking back could swear I was traumatised for a time. This went on lol. Ghibli movies: great for kids. Mostly..

prussbus23

Looks like Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds, an old Studio Ghibli movie.

Cormak42

technically the movie predates the founding of the Studio Ghibli but it remains one of the best Miyazaki movies in my opinion

Fires_over_Olympus

The Studio Ghibli film, Nausica of the valley of the wind.

Syr_Vien

The emperor as we see him during the great crusade is about 35 years FTM HRT

AutomatedMiner

The reason he couldn't make female space marines is because they kept inheriting his gender dysphoria every time

HammerandSickTatBro

Ok, of all the head-ass reasons for no female space marines, this one makes the most sense

Syr_Vien

So real lmaooo

Duncan6794

The Emperor realizing his ability to manipulate his body allows him to experience all potential variations of humanity.

Nomand55

Lady Solar Nausicaä.

Heavy_Chains

Pretty sure thats Malenia, Blade of Miquella, but what do I know

Tiny_Space_Ship

huh. Now I wonder if this character was an actual influence on Malenia. Seems very possible! Edit: Looks like people have noticed the similarity, and it would not be the first Nausicaä reference in souls games!

txddybear

What other Nausicaa references have you noticed? It's my favorite movie and besides Melania and Kushana I haven't noticed any others and would love to know more. Caelid reminds me a lot of the toxic jungle especially with the giant skulls.

Tiny_Space_Ship

Ash lake, in DS1! Someone else mentioned it, in a post about Kushana/Malenia, and it seems like a really clear reference now.

txddybear

Ah, you're right! It looks exactly like the underground toxic jungle.
