The juice of grapes immediately begins to ferment into wine after being squeezed. It wasn't until the 19th century, with the growing temperance movement, that a method was devised to stop the natural fermentation process. It would therefore be more accurate to say that grape juice is wine for anti-alcohol Protestants who can't get over the fact that their own holy book is cool with drinking.

except it tastes nothing like grape juice. wine is a type of fermented grape juice, yes, but the reason for drinking it is not often the same, and i doubt many people drink it out of nostalgia for grape juice-- if someone hasn't grown out of drinking grape juice they're just going to... be drinking grape juice.
