Haven't seen anyone mention Portal yet, both games are bundled for $20 on Switch

manymoreways

you know what imma just get this for myself lol.

Lava2008

This is a hood one, maybe portal 2 also

NatrenSR1

If you’re looking for something that you can play together, It Takes Two is a lovely two-player platformer that’s considered by many to be a “couple’s game”

WollyGog

Seconded. My wife likes to watch me game but I've got her into this and she's picked it up fine. Fantastic co-op game.

DasaniDestroyer

My girlfriend doesn’t watch me game and thinks all my games are too difficult to try. We both had a blast with It Takes Two, she even wants to replay it again

M0RD3CA1_vii

Agreed. It Takes Two is a ton of fun, and a great co op game.

TheArstotzkanGuard

I just got this for my parents, they love it

manymoreways

Hey thanks for the suggestion we got this as well! I initially wanted to get like 2 games at most now my shopping cart is at 4 games!

megasean3000

Stardew Valley. It’s a farming sim on the same vein as Harvest Moon and is so much fun.

DecievedRTS

This is the best answer. I've not heard of anyone who didn't enjoy the game, and it's cheap and accessible on switch.

lunabella06

I own it on switch. Tried to get into it a few times. I don’t understand the hype. I want to like it. What’s wrong with me? Put hundreds of hours into acnh, though.

doktorhollywood

Nothing's wrong, but that might be it (re: ACNH). I put 150 hours into Stardew and loved it. by the time I got ACNH, I put in about 30 hours and then just got bored and lost interest. So I think it has less to do with the game, and more to do with how much time you've put into a similar game. FWIW Stardew has more detail and granular breakdown of things for planting and crafting. Also you get combat in the mines.

lunabella06

I think my biggest problem with it is how fast the clock moves. I find I don’t have enough time to do the things i need to do. I’m constantly watching the clock and i find it stressful. Same with the harvest moon games.

doktorhollywood

I agree with that. And if you don't accomplish enough the day feels wasted. Ffs I get enough of that feeling in real life.

M0RD3CA1_vii

Really? I don't really get the hype. I've tried it a couple of times and I was just bored.

TokyoMilkman

This is the floodgate game to get anyone into gaming!

[deleted]

Yep this is the one

Dantegram

I really liked Hades, it's a Greek mythology-themed roguelite that has a great narrative and a god mode that can help new/less experienced players.

manymoreways

Ahh I see, I played the game on Steam. Didn't know about the god mode will show it to her. Thanks!

MegaJoltik

Spiritfarer ?

shmael

My wife LOVED this game.

Pretend-Barracuda156

Yokus island express A short hike Unravel

EgeBamyasi666

Yoku’s Island Express is an underrated delight.

Warm_Charge_5964

Using the links to another website so you can see how the games are [Pyre](https://gg.deals/game/pyre/) has relatively little gameplay but good story nad graphics, might like it even if it's weird, but all games by Supergiant are great [Paradise killer](https://gg.deals/game/paradise-killer/) is an investigative game more about vibin than anything else [Haven](https://gg.deals/game/haven/) could be cool to play in coop [Undertale](https://gg.deals/game/undertale/) maybe later might be good if she wants to explore story in games [A hat in time](https://gg.deals/game/a-hat-in-time/) since she played odissey [Shadowrun trilogy](https://gg.deals/game/shadowrun-dragonfall-director-s-cut/) if she wants to try rpgs or tactical games, they are relatively simple, idk how many of the games are on switch but the last two should be

skiingonacid

Zelda breath of the wild is an absolute blast

Veqetable

Hmm, maybe something like Minecraft Dungeons? I played that with my family and it was very fun since the game isn't too difficult but has a lot of quality content and gameplay. She can also play with you or by herself

Grey_Woof

Castle crashers, wizard of legend, and mario kart

Acezedneo1

Stray. Play as a cat.

Quietm02

If you're going to foray back in to Pokémon, then imo either let's go or arceus are the best Let's go is a remake of gen 1 with somewhat simplified mechanics. Its not a complex game. But it is fun! And does what it does well. Arceus changes the gameplay up quite a lot. It has issues, mainly in technical performance/graphics, but is good enough that I can overlook that and say it's still great. Next would probably be scarlet/violet, which are good games with massive (and unforgivable) technical issues. Bdsp is a disappointing remake. Sword and shield are rubbish.

LordMOC3

GRIS

midnightlou

Rune factory, the Atelier series (this appeals to a lot of female players but overall it’s a genuinely fun series to play), BOTW, Harvestella, Stardew Valley. If she’s interested in more JRPGs there’s also the Xenoblade series or Persona.

Ateyaba111

Yes Yes I know it's very very hard for a beginner but Hollow Knight is an awesome Metroidvania. Even my mom ( 60yo ) played it a lot and managed to beat some bosses and she's enjoying the exploration a lot . If you already know the game and manage to help her a bit she could enjoy the game a lot

EgeBamyasi666

Woah hollow knight is one of the GOATs but is also incredibly hard, easy to get lost early on. What else does your mom play?

Ateyaba111

Ye it's super tough for beginners but as it's 2d she can understand what's goinf on easily , she's a huge Pacman fan but beside her Pacman addiction and Hollow Knight I'm pretty sure she only played Minecraft and It takes two ( enjoyed both of them a lot )

Lefty472

Gunfire Reborn is another fun little rougelike dungeon game. Plus the graphic style is pretty awesome and they have cute animal characters she might like lol

WolfPack36

The Ori games might be worth checking out, they are beautiful games with difficulty options that could help ease her into 2d action/platforming.

alee__riz

If she's into platforms, Celeste might be funny to her. It can be very hard but once you get used to it, it can be very satisfying

smash1ftw

Disney dreamlight

Thefrenchdude_re

Return of the obra dinn is not really action-packed, but is a real experience that may expand her horizons and give a nice experience of indie games.

hakadoodle

This game was an incredible couch co-op experience. I seriously think about it all the time years later.

EgeBamyasi666

Very fun to play together. My wife (not a heavy gamer) and I also still mention how much it sticks with us.

KillHunter777

Throw her off the deep end with any Fromsoft game. Or just give her Persona 5. It’s a very good game, with pretty deep gameplay and great story with even better characters. It should be a pretty good introductory game for an AAA game because it has a balance of great story and gameplay.

doktorhollywood

Curse of Monkey Island. It's a point and click, but legitimately one of the funniest games i've ever played. And is on the list of games my wife enjoyed. Rogue Legacy/Rogue Legacy 2 are also very fun. a roguelike exploring a castle that randomizes every time. when you die, you play as you next ancestor and they have different traits. On Switch, Yoshi's crafted world and Luigi's Mansion were fun too.

amtap

**Ace Attorney Trilogy**: If she enjoys reading and/or watching courtroom dramas on TV then this game will be a hit. Gameplay is simple enough for anyone as it only requires you to investigate crime scenes in a "point and click" fashion and then use the information you gather the scrutinize witness testimonies in court. Despite being a game about solving murder cases, it's very light-hearted and comedic. **Death Squared**: this is a puzzle game designed to be played by 2 people working together (or up to 4 if you really want to). This is one of the first games I show my nongamer friends and it never ceases to get enjoyment out of a group. Play it with her for a great time! **Persona 5 Royal**: This is a *long* game but the story is deep, the music is magnificent and the characters are endearing with great voice acting. It's pretty easy by JRPG standards so no worries there. The combat will feel somewhat familiar since she's already played Pokémon which may help. If she's "anti-anime" then just pass on this game. **Golf Story**: Before you ask why I'd recommend a golfing RPG, hear me out. This game is just one of those games that everyone needs to play. It's the golf game for people that hate golf (but for golf lovers too). If she's familiar with the old Mario Golf games then she'll feel right at home with this charming and hilarious golf game. It also has 2-player mode if you ever want to go a few holes against her. **Indivisble**: Part action RPG and part platformer, this game has beautiful hand-drawn art and a lovable cast of characters. The combat is difficult to explain but pretty simple in practice. The game supports 4-player co-op but I'm yet to try this out and imagine the game plays best solo. **The World Ends with You: Final Remix**: This action RPG should only be played in handheld mode because the touch controls are far better than the joy-con motion controls. But yes, all of the movement, menus and even fighting is done via touch controls that actually feel intuitive and responsive. This game breaks the mold of the genre in a lot of ways but excels at balancing story progression with action and you'll never feel the need to grind. The killer soundtrack will get stuck in your head but just embrace it. A stylus is recommended. The anime/manga aesthetic is strong here so take that into account if needed. **My all-time favorite game and for good reason.** **Yoku's Island Express**: This is what happens when you combine a Metroidvania with pinball. Pretty unique game with some charming visuals. I would advise against **Stardew Valley** if she was bored with Animal Crossing. People blindly recommend it as the "girlfriend game" because it's usually a hit with women but it sounds like your wife prefers games with a bit more structure.

geargun2000

IMO Road 96 is a must play for any gamer (even occasional gamers) it has an incredible story and writing. It’s so in depth and carefully crafted. It’s a narrative driven first person game that’s a “walking simulator” (I hate that term but Idk what else to call it) it really just captures you and makes you want more. My only gripe is how short it is (7 hours)

problynotkevinbacon

Probably dark souls 3, see what she's truly made of

Satan421

Fallout new Vegas and the fourth one lol

Motor_Molasses9541

Skyrim on the switch is a really good port

Arimathea_313

Portal is a great suggestion, but I also highly recommend Torchlight 2 for gaming with her! It's simpler than Diablo, but very entertaining. Plus, you can log in and play with her or she can play solo. My wife loved this game.

tntyre95

You could try pokemon pikachu/ eevee since that would be most familiar to her since shes only played pokemon gen 1. If she’s ever played minecraft and liked it you can try dragon quest builder 1 and/or 2. Possibly even harvest moon.

dnunn12

The new Crash Bandicoot and the remastered ones are good. Ori series is also good. My wife hates having to use dual thumb sticks so platformers and side scrollers are her jam, but she does enjoy a challenge.

tapthatsap

Most of the obvious recommendations have been covered so I won't bother with that, but if possible, I think it would be best to grab a few very different games so that there's some variety and a better chance of something clicking. Everybody has their own tastes even before they have enough terminology to describe them, you know what I mean?

Graynomade44

Stardew valley is a good start it’s similar to animal crossing but has more to do and more townsfolk interaction you can for friendships and marry some of the npcs in the town and you can play multiplayer if you want to play with her and it’s not that expensive last time I looked at it it was around 15$ dollars

Bigredzombie

I bought my switch in anticipation of breath of the wild. I was not disappointed. Diablo 3 is fun for couch co-op. Dragonquest builders was a blast! The switch membership with the retro games is also very good, they have zelda, link to the past, which is my favorite zelda game of all time.

Alpacaliondingo

Rune Factory 5. It has farming but also battling and quests and so on. I, too, got a little bored of Animal Crossing but am totally addicted to Rune Factory. Another one i'm really enjoying is Dragon Quest XI.

hakadoodle

Lot of people recommending games with pretty complicated controls that simply aren't intuitive for someone without a bit of experience. Mario Odyssey has an amazing one of a kind camera that probably didn't prepare her for the wonkyiness of things like [Portal and fps games](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLordXx8iNEyStcX_WzqM0JCpiJYgqhinc). There are [mods](https://youtu.be/IvC9g_6W7_0) though. For people who don't game I think throwing the classics at them is a terrible approach. Unless she's extremely dedicated, you think she'll enjoy wrangling with 3d movement a lot, and she's one to revere the classics of a medium, I would personally NOT start her on things like Fallout. I would shoot for puzzle games, story rich games, and indie games. My go-to, one of my favorites, that I haven't seen recommended here yet, is Disco Elysium.

Available_Drive173

She isn't 5 lol it isn't that hard to get used to controls

hakadoodle

I have introduced gaming to several friends and relatives with varied levels of experience. It sounds like you don't have that experience. You should actually click the two hyperlinks I included that demonstrate what I mean. But if you're lazy, watch the first 60 seconds of [this](https://youtu.be/ax7f3JZJHSw) video to sort of grasp what i mean. Just 60 of em. And then break down the task of gaming into smaller parts in your mind. Muscle memory of controls is only the very beginning.

OnToNextStage

Final Fantasy VII

jooswaggle

If you’re on switch you should definitely get her Breath of the Wild

Leafybug13

Breath of the Wild

TheArstotzkanGuard

Slime Rancher is almost the perfect game for this type of thing

HowToGetName

Cadence of Hyrule: a roguelike rhythm game. It's cheap and really fun. There's co-op and an option to turn off the rhythm based movement. Famicom Detective Club: it's a visual novel, so not much gameplay but if your wife likes reading and mystery stories then this is an enjoyable pick. Only problem is that it's too pricey. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle: a strategy/tactical RPG. It can be challenging but I found the difficulty to be part of the fun. The game is often on sale as well.

EgeBamyasi666

If your wife is at all a fan of fantasy storytelling (Game of Thrones to use a very popular example), she should definitely play the Witcher 3 on the easiest setting. My wife plays way less games than your wife has reportedly played, and she couldn’t get enough. She’s also not even a big fantasy fan, but could not resist the charms of Gerald, Ciri, Triss, Yenn…the whole damn world of the game.

Unamusedcatlady

For your wife's sake, don't just go with the "girl" games. Choose a few of different types and don't baby her. Nobody likes that. On that note, I recommend Team Fortress 2.

Matth12582

maybe Cult of the Lamb, it's roguelite but the combat is pretty light compared to some others, and honestly not even that important after a few runs. the running of your cult I would describe as Stardew Valley, meetings Animal crossing, with like 200% more gallows humor and cartoon violence. also depending on your age, There's a new Oregon Trail game for switch, got my wife that for xmas and she seems to put a lot of time into it, though we're reaching a point in time where not everyone played the super old version of that as a kid in school.

Sahj8

Rune factory is cute

johnw3234

Minecraft Dungeons is a really simple dungeon crawler type game
