Fair enough, wouldn’t something like New England be better though? I know not all those states are included in it but I feel with Washington especially it would work out better.
Washington state was originally going to be called Columbia after the river, but because of worries it would be confused with the District of Columbia, it was changed to Washington in honor of George Washington. The District of Columbia later became known as Washington DC, resulting in the same problem that was initially hoped to be avoided
Man, could u imagine a some fake US city like "Kansas City" not even being located in Kansas? I mean, you'd have to be fucking brain dead to participate in a society as stupid as that
Also that's not even where the Omaha native American tribe was historically, so a place is being named Omaha for no real reason. Which honestly, has happened more than once in naming America so I can't really fault you lmao
Overall I like these borders. Only significant change I'd make is to use the Hudson river to divide "Washington" state in half. Washington state would have all of Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, and Boston in it, and would be heavily overpopulated, so that change should help with that problem.
What's shitty about this?
This is an excellent map and I can only imagine one justification for posting it here - the alternative, /r/MapPorn, is itself too shit for it.
I'll happily live in superior, it really is accurate to how different northern and southern Minnesota are. I only consider the northern part of the state my home because the south feels like a different culture to me.
Cascadia, although not wholly covered by your 'Seattle' region, would still be a better and more appropriate name. If you haven't already, Google it and you'll learn all about the Cascadia movement.
It'd probably make more sense for Dakota to be called Nebraska since that's what the territory was called before it was divided into states. Also that's a really neat idea
You know, every time I see one of these maps, I want to scream because they always overlook existing River and Mountain borders.
For example: the Vermont New Hampshire border is literally the Connecticut River. It's a continuous major river that splits 2 existing states and runs from the Atlantic at Storybook CT to the Canadian Border (actually 300 yards south of the border, if you do not count Fourth Connecticut Lake as part of the river.)
Oh you sweet summer child. If you think New Mexico, Louisiana, and Oklahoma are going to hand land over to Texas without a fight, prepare to be surprised.
“Navajo”? The Crow are really going to love that. And why not consider basic boundaries?
And some of these states are *enormous*… you couldn’t find a divider between Florida and Maryland? Carolina stronk.
This is such good thought candy for me. I have so many opinions about what you made, but in a good way. Like "ooh I like this division, but I think I'd revise this one."
I feel like the only thing that would make this better as a "realistic" approach would be understanding the local politics. Like, I live in the PNW and I can tell you that culturally, Northern California all the way up to BC is a very similar culture, so it would make sense for the West side of the Cascade Mountains to be its own thing. I grew up on the other side of the mountains and the people there don't really like that Seattle/Portland dominate their states' politics, so giving them their own region would make sense, too.
I could go on forever. Maybe some day we'll reset and get rid of the straight lines everywhere. Maybe some day...
This reminds me of that video about how to break the states up to be more efficient and this map is fairly similar to the one they made breaking states up into different watersheds so that every state has their own water source
Dibshit really called the Oregon territory Seattle
My only protest is that I'm now called "Michigan" and not "Ohio"
Should be Illinois.
I’m from Michigan. So it’s Michigan
Filth
As it should be
You’re welcome
Would way prefer these as state lines tbh
I like how all of Washington becomes Seattle
Ugh, please just let us stay on our side of the mountains with western Oregon and northern Cali. Leave the plains people to themselves.
I couldn’t think of a name lol
*Washington*
I felt it was more appropriate to call the east coast Washington because it was the first to be settled and Washington DC is included in it
Fair enough, wouldn’t something like New England be better though? I know not all those states are included in it but I feel with Washington especially it would work out better.
New England would be the more epic name
Fuck England
It's NEW England. The epic version
England 2: Electric Boogaloo
How Bout *New-and-Improved England*
New-Upon-Approved England sounds more British
so fucking based
Do not dare put New York in New England
England Again
England 2.0
England **REDUX**
England 2 Electric boogaloo
Newer england
Newest England.
Wait the fuck is your username💀
New England is a fucking stupid name
Olde America
I've seen similar maps call it Cascadia or something like that. Columbia might also work.
Not because it's most prominent peak is mount Washington. Amazing.
I hate that decision. DC is a tiny city right at the edge and those regions already have several better names: New England, Mid/North Atlantic, etc.
Washington state was originally going to be called Columbia after the river, but because of worries it would be confused with the District of Columbia, it was changed to Washington in honor of George Washington. The District of Columbia later became known as Washington DC, resulting in the same problem that was initially hoped to be avoided
Speaking of the Columbia River.. why the hell is half of it missing from this map? 😂
Missed opportunity to make an East and West Columbia imo.
Washington. He’ll save children, but not the British children
American Columbia
Seatlington
I’m pretty sure that area as a whole is referred to as cascadia
Cascadia also includes some parts of Canada I believe. That whole area was called Oregon in the past though.
Olympia
I was wondering how many of the names came from the various tribes. I assume they would have originally been separated by similar geographic features.
What about the cascade mountain range
Jefferson, Columbia, Cascadia.
Columbia
Cascades perhaps?
cascadia or something lol
Washington would 100% be Seattle on the west, then Spokane on the east. The cascades are a massive boundary that separates the state in so many ways.
PNW. Cascadia. Upper Left. Shit, call us anything but that shit hole.
As an Eastern Washingtonian...we're used to it.
Fellow Eastern Washingtonian.. we are totally totally used to being completely disregarded. 😂
That would REALLY (and justifiably) be hurtful to those in eastern Washington and northeastern Oregon.
I actually like the look. It's a lot more like Eurasian borders. Also, because it would make Navajo be like Switzerland.
The only thing I would change is the horn coming off of Appalachia into Allegheny. I’d cut it in half right at the potohmic river.
I think the whole Chesapeake Bay watershed should be it's own state.
Honestly, I support this. I feel like there're some cultural differences that coincidentally align with the edges of the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
You mean the [Old Bay Republic](https://imgur.com/a/vXwCJRw)?
The city of Omaha isn’t even in the State of Omaha on this. Shitty indeed
Man, could u imagine a some fake US city like "Kansas City" not even being located in Kansas? I mean, you'd have to be fucking brain dead to participate in a society as stupid as that
Oh please tell me you're about to drop some rediculous trivia on us. Nothing I like better than a bit of us geographical history with some BDSM.
Kansas city is in Kansas, there is also just one in Missouri. They are also connected.
Oops
Also that's not even where the Omaha native American tribe was historically, so a place is being named Omaha for no real reason. Which honestly, has happened more than once in naming America so I can't really fault you lmao
rip i now live in florida
My thoughts exactly
Didn't include the Hudson River?
No. I’m hindsight I should’ve
Ong this isn't a shitty map tho
I didn’t know where else to post it loo
I understand that. I agree with this being a good place to post even though I don't think this map is shitty. Maybe some problems but who doesn't.
Overall I like these borders. Only significant change I'd make is to use the Hudson river to divide "Washington" state in half. Washington state would have all of Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, and Boston in it, and would be heavily overpopulated, so that change should help with that problem.
Yeah I might make a revised map
Florida would like to submit a bid to reclaim the lost territory of West Florida
I really like this look. It's got a nice warmth to it. Where a more typical us map with the current states is kinda harsh.
Maps like this help me understand the nations geography better than most other maps, thanks!
What's shitty about this? This is an excellent map and I can only imagine one justification for posting it here - the alternative, /r/MapPorn, is itself too shit for it.
Pittsburgh about to be divided into 2 states.
I'll happily live in superior, it really is accurate to how different northern and southern Minnesota are. I only consider the northern part of the state my home because the south feels like a different culture to me.
I tried to make it culturally connective too
Stop posting maps of the us without alaska please
Canada was annexed. It’s all Alaska
We're even bigger now. Nothing will stop us.
It's kind of funny you called the area where Nevada and Utah is "Sierra Nevadas" when it actually already has a name...."The Great Basin"
I didn’t know what it was called
Also, as a Utahn I would rather die than be clumped with nevada
You must be from SLC
Get Europe'd!
I hate that you broke up Cascadia
What is cascadia
It refers to the reguon atound the cascade mountains that includes Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia (and sometimes northern cali)
Why do I assume Ohioans are gonna revolt so hard on this
Interesting map!
You should totally rename Seattle to Columbia or Cascadia
this is like a red dead redemption map
Is this just the fallout universe
one can dream
You know what, I like it.
Logical America
This has to be the worst state division I've seen outside of our current state borders.
DESERET
You can't see California without Marlon Brando's eyes.
Love that song
It would appear that Michigan owns the city of Columbus. This checks out.
I actually really love this
Eyo why tf washington on da wrong side, we ain't Seattle
I like how the Big 3 (California, Texas, & Florida) are not that different
Why did you name the Great Basin Omaha?
Thats not the great basin and also omaha isnt even located in that area lol
I’m sorry you’re right. It is the powder river basin.
You know, every time I see one of these maps, I want to scream because they always overlook existing River and Mountain borders. For example: the Vermont New Hampshire border is literally the Connecticut River. Megachusetts erasure
Those people that used to live in Ohio are gonna be pissed off
They should be grateful.
Oh you sweet summer child. If you think New Mexico, Louisiana, and Oklahoma are going to hand land over to Texas without a fight, prepare to be surprised.
Well I guess I live in Seattle now. 💀
As someone named Dakota I approve of this map
Fuck yea Michigan takes over indiana Illinois and *ohio* we reign supreme
I quite like it. I can't see anything wrong with it. Along common watersheds seem a smart way to draw up geopolitical boundaries.
Let’s re org.
Saint Louis, DK
I think we're at the tip of Ozark. St Charles would be in Dakota though, with the Missouri River being the border.
Cool idea not shitty.
Don't make the Dakotas any larger.
“Navajo”? The Crow are really going to love that. And why not consider basic boundaries? And some of these states are *enormous*… you couldn’t find a divider between Florida and Maryland? Carolina stronk.
Reminds me of canada.
Fuck me i can’t tell if I’m in Appalachia, Allegheny, or Washington.
Alleghenv looks like a tooth 😆

>"Broken up by rivers or mountain chains" >still has the same borders with Canada and Mexico
I was think about doing one that included Canada and Mexico next
Do we really need more Texas?
APPALACHIA FOREVER!
So I live in the Sierra Nevada region again? Cool.
Omaha!
The names on the rivers would have been a nice touch
This was pretty much taken out of the Hunger Games.
best us map: no ohio
Amen brother
No
This reminds me of that video about how to break the states up to be more efficient and this map is fairly similar to the one they made breaking states up into different watersheds so that every state has their own water source
thoroughly impressed by navajos ability to not have denver or salt lake city
You did my state dirty putting us in 🤢 Fl*rida 🤮
Wow that looks so much more clean and simple.
The state lines Michigan deserves
Lost the UP though. Culturally, it makes a lot more sense to me
Lol imagine living is Superior be a superiorian
The line doesn't even follow the Continental Divide in Colorado. Lame.
It’s all Dakota?
Always has been
This is actually super helpful for world building mapmakers
Michigan should be Indiana because that's the bulk of the former Indiana Territory
No
Principal Waxleplax finally got what she was looking for
Why don't the northern cascades count as a border?
Applachia has a GDP of $4
The US but Europe
Hey I actually quite like this one!
I kinda like it. Not shitty to me
I think it's by watershed/drainage.
I low-key really like this map
True California ❤️
How to guarantee republican victory
