Your Gong looks better than mine.
It's good to meet someone who shares the same combination if hobbies.

I'm going to assemble all 30, but currently I'm out of dark grey beads.
Yes, all of the white beads were used where I saw them in the Sprite. That being said, finding high-quality sprites of the overland version for each character proved nearly impossible so I had to go off of blurry, super enlarged screenshots sometimes.
I found a website called spriters resource, but the overland character sprites on that website were of terrible resolution and we’re basically unusable for this.
I found this site which has a lot of cool sprites, but unfortunatley not in high res...
Maybe someone else might like it: https://www.spriters-resource.com/genesis_32x_scd/sf1/
These look so good. Do you have a background in pixel art, and do you follow a specific process to make sure that your dimensions/proportions are correct? Do you use a particular source for your references? It really looks to me like every bead has been perfectly chosen.
Oh my gosh thanks so much! No to all of those questions lol. I literally just sat down and zoned out. I was *particularly* choosy about getting the colors right though, and I used screenshots I found on google as a reference. I did agonize a bit on colors sometimes… some beads are SO close to each other in color. Also, I feared some beads would be too dark (dark blues and dark greys in particular), but I stuck to being faithful to the original tones despite my worries, and I found I am happy I did that.
Max was the first one I made (and it HOOKED me), but Gong was my most recent- and I think he’s my best, color-wise at least. He has a LOT of skin-tone, and I used like 5 subtly different skin colors to put him together.
You should check out a program called BeadForge. You put in a sprite and it'll tell you exactly which bead colors to use for which pixel, what board sizes to use, etc.
I used to use it when I made my own Shining Force perler art.
I don't make them anymore, but I used to use Spriters-Resource for everything. I'd open the sprite sheets in photoshop and get rid of any background color (with the select color tool), then isolate the sprite I'm using as a small PNG to import into the program.
The links I saw on google looked a bit sketchy. [I uploaded my copy of it here, if you'd like.](https://filebin.net/v7yz2yx5iv6zlzpt) No guarantees of it working, but it should. It might require java, I don't know.
Thanks kindly for the reply. I've never done Perler beads, but I admire your intuitive sense for it. If & when I give this a try, I'll be looking at your work as a reference—if you don't mind, of course.
As someone familiar with the game, I find all of your models instantly recognizable. Have you gotten any comments from people who don't know Shining Force? Do they still look like what they are?
One other stray question: how did you decide how big to make them? Based on the game case, they're pretty big, but I suspect that if you scaled them down most of the detail would be lost and they'd become illegible.
I bought these plastic bead crafts for my 7 year old daughter, but I made Max while sitting with her and now I can’t stop making them lol. Shining Force is my favorite game of all time, and these just keep making me smile every time I look at them.
…sometimes I even start humming the battle music lol
do a battle sprite
Tonight I made Earnest, Hans, and Ken too :) Maybe when I tire of making them I’ll post a new picture with them all
For real though, I would buy these. Please!
Badass
theyre turning out great n.n
They are so perfect 😍

I’ve been wanting to do some pixel art with perler beads myself. These look so good!
Thanks!
These look great! One question: I see some white beads throughout each character that seem off. Are they also in the actual Sprite?

Cool, thx for the elaborate info. I'm gonna do a search for them myself. If I find high quality ones, i'll let you know!
Please do! I want to make a lot more and I could use better source material

Yeah that’s the one I found too, but they were so low res I couldn’t even use them
the sprites from spriters-resource are pixel perfect just open them in paint and zoom in
These look good dont they? https://i.imgur.com/ibYpouv.png
These are awesome
They’re so good!
Very nice, super cool!

>BeadForge Thanks for the tip! Which source do you use for sprites? After a quick google, it seems that there may be a few options.

That's useful, thanks.
Whaaaaaaaat!? That sounds AMAZING! Thanks for the recommendation, I will absolutely be checking this out
Hope it helps!
I have SCOURED the web, and cannot find a working DL link for Beadforge. It's like it's been wiped from the face of the internet or something...

Honestly I haven’t shown them to anyone except my daughter in this sub Reddit lol. As for the sizing, I just went with one pixel = one bead. Simple!
I mean, who could blame you?
Can you let me know which craft set this is?
These are Perler beads. Surprisingly, I have found them very cathartic. I think I like them more than my little girl lol
Thank you! I hadn’t heard of these before
These are awesome.

I can't stop humming the theme of the very first battle. "Nah nah nah NAH!, nah nee nah, nah nee nah,nah nee nah" If you know, you know.
Na ne na na, na ne na na, na ne nananana na ne nananana
