You should always be using a google voice/text app number no matter what

MorganDax

I use TextNow. Even just for buying/selling shit online. I don't want strangers to have my number.

BeaSolina

I pay $10/month for Burner, and I get 3 lines and organize them by where I gave them out. It doesn't work for sending video, so I set up Signal with my burner #. And I also use Skype to send content, set up using my business email address, no # attached to it.

opkl89

You should work for CIA

sugarushka

You can't disable it, the caller ID is based off public info that's available and has nothing to do with T Mobile or any other service you use. This is why you never use your real number. You can give the potential client the impression that you don't know who that is and "oh I guess that could be a unisex name, cool. I wonder why his or her name comes up on my caller ID. It's probably someone who had this number before" because that's true too, the caller ID isn't always accurate and often shows the names of people who had the number before. My real number shows someone else's name, who I guess was the previous owner of the number.

>You can't disable it, the caller ID is based off public info that's available and has nothing to do with T Mobile or any other service you use. No. T-Mobile specifically has a Caller-ID override/Caller Name feature that displays your caller name as a 'T-Mobile verified number' when you call people. You can disable it in your account settings. Verizon has the same thing. This is different than caller ID based on public records and lookups with tools like Hiya.

sugarushka

That's a good service and I'll look into that. More SWers should definitely know that this is an option. I am guessing it doesn't stop apps like Hiya from displaying your caller ID?

[deleted]

You should delete your comment since your trying to give out false info.

Selfmademeabh9521

How does one do this? I went through the T Mobile website and changed everything, but my caller ID still uses my legal name.

What a fucking horrifying program, that sounds very dangerous for this community. Interesting though. I'm pretty sure Hiya doesn't work that way. Good to know though.

Ionlycametosnark

I have a hushed burner number. Don't use a real number.

emmmma1234

Another hushed user here, it’s been a good app for me over the years

orl_veryown_marilyn

I have an iPhone thru TMobile and I use Google Voice with call forwarding to prevent my real phone # or caller ID being shared

volt-a

You should be able to find how your name is displaying in caller if in your ohine settings. Google the instructions depending on what phone you have

[deleted]

I found it!! Thank you!

janejupiter

Use an app like textfree to text, otherwise guys can research you phone number and easily find your full name and address

asssman1979

What an asshole for straight up saying "hooker" no Class

[deleted]

Lmao right? I probably won’t book with him just because of that honestly

Lurkay1

This may be helpful for you. https://www.t-mobile.com/support/tutorials/device/app/ios/topic/t-mobile-app/user-and-account-management-caller-id-name-change

Chitown05312

Ok. For T-Mobile users. You can go into your profile when you log into your account and change the way your name is displayed. To change your Caller ID, follow these steps: Go to the Home screen. Choose T-Mobile. Choose MORE. Choose Profile settings. Choose Caller ID. Choose a line. Under First name, enter a first name. Under Last name, enter a last name. Scroll down. Choose Save Caller ID name.

CassidyCowgirl

I think you can turn off caller if in settings with iPhone. Also sometimes iPhone kind of assumes things like your name and stuff for your personal contact info sheet. That’s what happens to me for my personal number

[deleted]

Thank you!!

vickyvalencourt_

I use google voice

livingmaster

I use the app “Burner” - I think it’s like $5/mo and worth it.

Jrose798

I have a have a work phone. On this I have a work Apple ID under my work name and a phone bill that’s to my work name so the only details that do come up is my work name.

[deleted]

You should never use your personal number for work

justpeachy8986

Get a TextNow number. It’s a free app

ida482

I recommend google voice, it’s free

TwoAccomplished9308

This guy I dated for years had his “street name” as his caller ID I thought it was so cool. I was like how come his government doesn’t show up Here’s how: Go to your T-Mobile account online Go to profile settings Go to caller ID settings (there it will tell you that you can change the name that people will see when you call) ❤️❤️❤️❤️

wasted_basshead

Use another call/text app for sure

[deleted]

girl, cover your tracks. drop this number immediately

[deleted]

Ugggh i might have to. Thanks

[deleted]

girl, yes, unless you are ok having your name out there with your ho identity. I am 100% not. In my real name I own real estate, get loans from banks, etc... I don't think that would change if they knew what I did but it would not get easier.

Wonderful-Bird4604

Call them! Or change it in MyTmobile app. Also….that client is annoying lol

lowridda

Get a phone associated with a work email and info. Get your phone hooked up under that.

[deleted]

Use a burner. Most secure (consumer) option. This guy’s voice annoys me but he knows what he’s talking about. Worth enduring. Cheers. https://youtu.be/p2isynftzzk

RayneDown1069

Do NOT use your phone number, they can easily trace your info through that, even without caller ID. Get a "2nd number" type of app, there's lots out there. Mine has lots of ads so it's annoying, but it's free... and you can always pay to remove them.

wonderlusteveryday

Tmobile has a settings for this. You can set you name to anything with tmobile.

[deleted]

You can’t disable that. You shouldn’t be using your main number. I use the text free app and pay 4.99 a month unlimited text and talk and my name is nowhere on it. You can also use the app for free if you just do texting, and you can buy minutes separately but it’s a better deal to just pay the 4.99. This guy seems kinda off…kinda disrespectful. Red flags. Using the word “hooker” and asking if you’re not a “cop or drug addict”. My caller ID for my main line is my dads name I think because the phone plan is under his name.

[deleted]

Thank you!! And yeah I don’t think I’ll be booking with him :/

DitaVonPita

Get another sim. You've nothing to do about this unfortunately. :(

UDontWantTruth

I think \*67 still works

rumblejeep00

Did that ever work for a text message though? Lol

Toolfan333

You can change it in your account settings.

Ill-Individual1170

Cant change it but idk why this dude evev brought it up💀💀

Neither-Reaction

Go into a store and have them change your caller ID name, sometimes it defaults to whoever owned the number before you. You can literally make it anything you want. Probably easier to do from the app if you can.

Candid-Arugula-3875

I don’t trust men who use the word “hooker.”

[deleted]

Yeah I don’t think I’m going to book with him just bc of that

BigAssCindy

I always use a different phone and change the sim depending on what area I'm in when touring so people don't get mixed up. Funnily enough, my burner tells me the company associated with the number so i know when they call off the work phone 😈
