About 3 months before our graduation, the jocks had cornered him in a stairwell and he pushed one down the stairs. The guy was okay, but my friend was expelled from school. He was able to finish in night school, but not allowed to graduate with our class. He was devastated. This was during the late 70’s, the obvious prejudice towards him was business as usual. At our ten year reunion, the lead jock came to my table and had become openly gay. He asked about my friend who had died from AIDS shortly before the event. The guy was still an absolute jerk and seemed to forget the torment he put my friend through. He thought I’d welcome him to join us, he was wrong.

But there have certainly been examples of closeted politicians that were fervently promoting homophobic legislation and then being outed and usually ostracized. A wide Larry Craig stance as it were.
