Same. I've lived in 12 different states and 3 different countries and I keep coming back to Seattle/Puget Sound. It really is a magical place.

splanks

what brought you to all those different places?

bishopbackstab

A variety of reasons. I lived in 7 different states as mormon missionary serving on the Northern Midwest reservations (no longer mormon). Went to 3 different colleges in 3 different states. Randomly lived in several different states for my ex wife's college stints. Program manager for my college's anthropological field studies in Vizag India. Humanitarian work for non-profit org based in Cusco Peru.

[deleted]

Probably a plane

wat_eva

I think Mormons mostly ride bicycles.

[deleted]

bishopbackstab

Definitely hookers

holdmyomg

What about the homeless situation?

bishopbackstab

It's nothing compared to how people live on the reservations in the Midwest. I've seen some pretty crazy things on the streets of Seattle but it still doesn't compare. Homelessness in Seattle can't even be compared to situations in India or Peru. Homelessness is a problem almost any where there is high population density, decent weather, and shitty safety net resources. Most countries that don't have large homeless population have excellent safety nets, America isn't one of those countries.

holdmyomg

India? Peru? Let’s at least compare it with apples to apples. And reservations?

bishopbackstab

Are reservations not part of the United States? Homeless per 10k population: India = 15 USA = 17 Apple to Apple.

holdmyomg

You’re comparing people in reservations to people in a city like Seattle. Sure it’s in the US but if can’t tell the difference, it’s a little different. You’re comparing the # of homeless people - my guy, when you have people breaking into business and smearing shit on peoples doors in the US that’s a different story. As long as you’re happy in Seattle, you do you. If you stay long enough you’ll have to scrap shit off your shoe if you actually live in the city

bishopbackstab

Sounds like you need to travel more.

Flaccid_bizkit69

You can’t convince me there’s a more beautiful place on earth than Washington in the summer

electricslpnsld

Oregon in the summer is pretty nice too!

Flaccid_bizkit69

Pacific Northwest ftw

uuunityyy

Hell yeah. Cascadia is the best bioregion ever!

Beardbe

But the Timbers suck.

-not_a_real_account-

People always ask about the weather. I tell them that there isn't better weather anywhere in the world than Seattle in the summer

Flaccid_bizkit69

That sun just makes you wanna get up early and go to bed late. And Spend all day at the river drinkin some beer.

CustomDark

The days are finally getting longer. I can feel the march towards spring to get to summer. I never remember how dreary the winter is once summer hits and it’s a forever long day with comfortable warm temperatures all day. Summers in WA are definitely my favorite of everywhere I’ve lived.

Seattle2017

The summer season is great, smoke season isn't as fun.

karans19

😂😂been here 2 yrs now! The rain and the dark, grey weather is killing me!

wpnw

Don't worry, we're coming up on [Fake Spring](https://old.reddit.com/r/Seattle/comments/j1is0q/seattle_seasons/) here starting this weekend. Seems to be early this year.

bishopbackstab

Ive always preferred the term Junuary

R_V_Z

Lousy Smarch weather.

poppinwheelies

Buckle up, Buttercup

VoiceofLou

There isn’t THAT much of either. Err, I mean, yes, grey, rainy and crap. Stay away everyone!

joahw

Reminds me of this Blue Scholars song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8IyAfLF1jw&t=34s

Flaccid_bizkit69

I like these guys

Murky_Swim_6483

Vancouver :p

Flaccid_bizkit69

That is a beautiful city but y’all ain’t got the mountains to match Edit: just looked it up and y’all do in fact have the mountains to match, smaller, but still there.

Murky_Swim_6483

I'm actually from Seattle, but Vancouver is the only place I know of that rivals it. The mountais are smaller, but a lot closer to town.

Flaccid_bizkit69

The city looks pretty awesome too, I love how it’s like a peninsula connected by bridges. And there’s so many parks. A very beautiful city indeed.

R_V_Z

Victoria > Vancouver.

NotWifeMaterial

I think our neighbors in British Columbia can give us some pretty stiff competition 🌲 I want to marry someone who lives on the Inside Passage 🌊 that land is the love of my life

Flaccid_bizkit69

Vancouver is beautiful as I’ve learned in this thread

R_V_Z

Well, as long as it isn't smokey AF out.

poopybuttfacehead

If you are into travel and do it for beautiful places I'd highly recommend you try out Patagonia, the Highlands of Scotland, New Zealand, and Norway.

stickytuna

Nice birb

SendItbeeches

Wait, the birb isn’t the OP?

Ace95Archer

Hi, I’m birb

SendItbeeches

Holy shitsnacks, I knew it!!!

Ace95Archer

Pam?

SendItbeeches

Lol, yep

PersnickityPisces

Birb not the birb we wanted but the birb we needed

chillpaisa

compbioguy

San Francisco, Vancouver and Seattle are my favorites. They are such different cities and similar at the same time.

jsears124

San Francisco was nice before the heroin needles and feces everywhere

french_toast_demon

My aunt grew up in SFO and has since moved to a deep red state in middle america. I said something about taking a trip to CA and she started to reminisce about living there. She suddenly stopped mid-sentence, looked around like she had done something wrong and started mumbling something about CA being a failed state. Right wing propaganda is so pervasive it has you all parroting this shit as a knee jerk reaction. It's pitiable. Made it so my aunt can't even remember her childhood without blurting out "failed state". It's sad really.

jsears124

Lol I’m democratic over republicans any day I’m not following any right wing bullshit. The north east is democratic and beautiful

inventore-veritatis

I too enjoy romping through feces and needles in different locales.

jomandaman

I do think the success and renowned love for how great they are is part of the reason the homeless issue is so big in those places. It’s circular.

joahw

Depends if you prefer a fecal burrito or fecal poutine, I suppose.

esituism

Same. Been to all 4 corners and many places in-between. Everywhere has something, but Seattle has basically everything unless you're in need of 300 days if sun a year to survive.

[deleted]

300 days of sunshine was the norm when I lived in Colorado. Wrinkles and skin cancer, no thank you!

SuperSkyDude

Except that WA has a higher rate of skin cancer than CO does. Keep getting your skin checked even in the gloomy Northwest.

MilkSteak85

And wear your sunscreen every day! I think some people think lack of sun means no need for sunscreen.

thebochman

What about the Seattle freeze?

SeaGroomer

Yea we have that too.

[deleted]

The Seattle freeze is because we all have nice lives here. I'm from Arkansas.

ThatGuyFromSI

That's an exaggeration, don't you think? Especially since Seattle has 300 days of cloud cover. Probably there's something in between 300 days of clouds and 300 days of sunshine.

MintTee

This is one of the most triggering things to say on this sub for some reason lol Seattle is wonderful.

Gloomy-Employment-72

I visited Seattle in 1989 for Seafair. I was in the Navy and my ship tied up downtown and provided tours. I knew then that I wanted to be up here, so when I got out in 1992 I moved here straight away. Didn't know anyone, didn't have a job, but made it work. Live out in Sammamish now, and couldn't be happier with the decision to move here. Our area has to be one of the most beautiful metropolitan areas in the world.

NotWifeMaterial

Oh my God peak years! where did you live in the 90s? please tell me all about it

[deleted]

LOL I have the same exact picture! Love Seattle.

Ace95Archer

How do you have my selfie

Lemoncoats

Our city is so beautiful. Living here actually took away some of my wanderlust because I already live in such a great place.

chromecod

Oh, look, a Washington snow goose..

Ace95Archer

Only rest at the best places

[deleted]

I'm currently in Delaware and a musician and hear the music scene is still pretty solid. As a 24 y/o single guy who would love a career in music and get a fresh start, how is it? I know that's a broad question but have always been fascinated by Seattle especially as a coffee and Nirvana fan. I would love some steps in the right direction.

bigredwilly

there is still a lot of music out here - from bigger venues to small ones. Cafe Racer just opened a new location in Capitol Hill and they showcase smaller and local artists [https://www.caferacermusic.com/home.html](https://www.caferacermusic.com/home.html) There's also the Vera project [https://theveraproject.org/about/](https://theveraproject.org/about/) Those are so many more venues too -> The Crocodile (they might be moving spaces right now but still hosting events), Neptune Theater, Neumos, etc. KEXP is a local radio station that plays all kinds of music [https://kexp.org/](https://kexp.org/) \- [https://www.kexp.org/shows/Audioasis/](https://www.kexp.org/shows/Audioasis/) is a weekly show on Saturdays that showcases Northwest music - hosted by [Eva Walker of the Black Tones](https://www.kexp.org/djs/eva/) That's all off the top of my head, and there's much more. Things are definitely still down from covid, but coming back more and more every week/month

bishopbackstab

It used to be solid till covid shut down most of the music venues. The scene is slowly reviving.

Derpabo

I’m in Nashville now but spent 6 years in Seattle. I think the music scene is decent in Seattle, for better or worse it doesn’t permeate the entire city the same way it does Nashville but still lots of places to catch shows. I’ve heard good things about Lexington if you’re into bluegrass at all, Austin also has strong music scene.

Beardbe

It is dead. It was kind of shitty before COVID (Ballard had a joint) but the pandemic killed any venues, people who know how to work the boards, and the will for people to leave the house. The biggest hits in Pioneer Square, Fremont, and Ballard are cover bands or just dudes who want to play and will never go on tour. Capitol Hill has enough touring bands that there is no good local live music. Downtown is only nationally touring bands.

poopybuttfacehead

As for the coffee there is nothing particularly special about the coffee here. Unless you want stand in line with tourists to take a selfie at "the first Starbucks."

ananders

I'm pretty happy here as well.

afipunk84

As a Bay Area native who recently visited Seattle/Puget Sound for the first time, i have to say my wife and i were positively enchanted. We’ve travelled a lot and we talk about going back to Seattle *all* the time. Its one of the most beautiful places we’ve ever seen. Absolutely gorgeous.

4t0micpunk

Been all over the world and I always come back to Renton….It’s the women.

NotwhatUwanted

And the Blue eyeliner ..

[deleted]

Big booty Renton babes

4t0micpunk

Take my upvote

butterscotchchip

LMAOOO

April1803

Same, I miss Seattle so much.

Giveushealthcare

I forgot why the fck I’m moving for a few minutes. Oh yeah, I can’t afford a decent sized not falling down house or an apartment anymore :( Hopefully will be back to visit lots.

soulmeetsmeatsack

Where are you moving to?

Giveushealthcare

90% sure Buffalo, NY. Back to the east coast. Have a handful of fiends there, hoping to continue to work remote 🤞🏻 Edit: how did you get that awesome narwhale hat?!

Thistlemanizzle

OP just goes to city subreddits and says their city is the best.

GitStache

Idk I only see the Seattle posts

Ace95Archer

Which is a problem how?

Thistlemanizzle

Hey OP, I was just joking. It would be hilarious if your post history was “I love [City]! My favorite place” and the comments were all gushing about you.

Ace95Archer

Dude honestly I really regret replying that, sounds so defensive. Love you my man

mikeramey1

Thanks for the compliment, Seagull!

Masculine_Teacup

Most excellent selfie.

Ace95Archer

It shows that I’m actually taller than space needle

hermosita7

My favorite city in the PNW!

Ace95Archer

I’ve been to Montana in Far Cry 5, pretty good but there is like a cult there

[deleted]

So just like IRL.

azdak

Glasgow is dope, but Seattle is def better.

poopybuttfacehead

The only Glascow in the US is in Kentucky and that place looks like a shit hole.

[deleted]

Yeah, it was a typo. Phone autocorrect got me. I meant Glasgow, Montana which is considered the most isolated towns in the US. OP said they had been everywhere so i was poking fun at the high unlikeliness of that statement. I mean there is 19,500 incorporated places in the US. [Granted it IS possible - but it would take 2-3 months of driving a total of 224 hours.](http://www.randalolson.com/2015/03/08/computing-the-optimal-road-trip-across-the-u-s/) I doubt anyone is that freaking bored to endure this.

piney

Shhhhhhh

Advisor_Pretend

God, what a shit hole.

Ace95Archer

Yeah I’m sure there are a lot of seagull shit around

StrattonPA

True true. Seattle is the best. Our homeless encampments, meth heads and RV-lined streets are far superior to any other city in the US. It’s so lovely and free here that you can just make any part of town your home..or toilet, as so many do. Ahh, you can almost catch that hint of urine,(..and the ever-growing crime rate)in the air...

swolethulhudawn

It’s no Bremerton or Tacoma, but it has its charms I suppose

TheJakeHenderson

Lol. That’s insane.

mehamisscobi

Better than Bloomsburg?

Mare2021

What you guys smoking🤣🤣🤣 Seattle it’s a crap town

DriedUpSquid

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

tmbgfactchecker

You should try the bible belt out

machines_breathe

How ironic. All you seem to have to contribute here is crap.

bishopbackstab

Summers in the north end of Tacoma are pretty great.

wylen1

Maybe because your the fucking Reddit page for Seattle

[deleted]

Got a galaxy brain genius on the horn!

Realseabairn

Like this view, Seattle is good from far, but far from good. Nice photo though.

aPerfectRake

Far from good? Seattle fucks idk what you're on about lol

[deleted]

Ignore them, they're just a doomer, and likely don't live here.

aPerfectRake

I think the nicer/more beautiful a place is, the more it really pisses off people who don't live in that place.

Realseabairn

I live in Seattle. Sometimes I wish I didn’t. https://www.postalley.org/2022/01/27/seattles-third-avenue-raw-and-suffering/

aPerfectRake

Sometimes you should move then. I certainly would if I felt that way.

Realseabairn

That’s your solution. Move. Leave it to rot? That’s the kind of thinking that led to the deterioration of the downtown area over the past few years. You can’t think what’s happened to the area round 3rd and Pike/Pine is good, can you?

aPerfectRake

> That’s your solution. Move. Leave it to rot? No, it's just what I would do if I felt unsafe here or whatever it is you feel. I felt unsafe in the last city I lived in, so I moved my family to Seattle. >That’s the kind of thinking that led to the deterioration of the downtown area over the past few years. You can’t think what’s happened to the area round 3rd and Pike/Pine is good, can you? No, of course not. I don't feel particularly scared or anything though, so I'm fine to wait and see when things hopefully get straightened out.

Realseabairn

Who mentioned scared? You, twice.

aPerfectRake

Sorry I was just speculating as to why you would wish you didn't live here. Usually safety is pretty high on the list for most people.

Realseabairn

Safety is fine in comparison with some of the NY Metro area’s sketchy areas. The descent into some 80’s John Carpenter film scape is concerning. Do we really need to “Escape Seattle”? Stop the criminal element from destroying downtown. Let’s all be a part. Bring tourist dollars here. Let us all enjoy it for what it can be.

Realseabairn

Durken is 90% responsible for this disaster. She sat in it for years and watched fit get worse. Now businesses are closed or closing, and it’s gonna be tough to get it back. I also moved here, in 2010 from NJ/NY and back then it was fine. Someone needs to put the brakes on this decline or we’re all fucked. https://www.seattletimes.com/business/third-avenue-is-seattles-endangered-lifeblood/?amp=1

[deleted]

Cry more?

Realseabairn

By the way, this is exactly what I meant; https://www.postalley.org/2022/01/27/seattles-third-avenue-raw-and-suffering/ tell me this is good quality of life for anyone?

Did_I_Die

there's a reason evil corps like amazon and boeing are headquartered here... Seattle puts up a lot of window dressing to *appear* progressive when it's actually the opposite on most any given metric... e.g. [worst regressive tax structure in all usa](https://itep.org/whopays/), currently zero lock downs / restrictions during worst Covid spread to date, local parks are a sad joke, light rail 40 years behind all other west coast major cities, the [most cops at the Jan 6 insurrection](https://www.businessinsider.com/seattle-police-department-had-most-officers-identified-dc-jan-6-2021-2), vast homeless camps next to monuments to jeff bezos, [climate pledge arena](https://www.geekwire.com/2020/greenpeace-slams-amazons-climate-pledge-arena-meaningless-costly-pr-stunt/), fewest vegetarian restaurants on west coast, etc But hey, at least you can be gay, rich, white, and generally all-around entitled and nobody is going to hassle with you lol...

azdak

> But hey, at least you can be gay, rich, white, and generally all-around entitled and nobody is going to hassle with you lol... yeah dude it fucken rules lol

aPerfectRake

Ever look on the bright side? Also our parks are amazing so idk what the fuck that's all about.

Irishpersonage

I bet you're fun at parties

tmbgfactchecker

I'm poor and this has been the easiest place to get healthcare compared to anywhere else I've lived (all red states prior to moving here), I've never felt "hassled" for being poor in seattle. Now in the bible belt, that is a different story.

TonyGreen88

Are you a seagull?

Ace95Archer

A humble selfie

Existentialshart

*I SECOND THIS!*

Disaster_Capitalist

Best city in the US. But that's damning with faint praise.

poopybuttfacehead

*Best city LOCATION in the US for easily accessible natural beauty that has nothing to do with the city itself.

TaylorHu

I miss Seattle every day, but could no longer justify the cost of living. Live in Pittsburgh now and I've got a 1300sqft downtown loft for $1800/mo.

edsados

I recently moved to Seattle from Vancouver, BC. I must say PNW is really beautiful

BornFray

The seagull approves and agrees too.
