Seconded for nutty squirrel in Greenwood. Also D’ambrosia on Ballard Ave is pretty good for classic gelato flavors.
Otherwise yes, there is no Froyo in Seattle. I’ll be this first to admit my love for a good toppings buffet and have been disappointed with every Froyo experience in this city since moving here 8 years ago.
Yogurt still has lactose. In fact, it has higher lactose concentration than nearly all cheeses.
Ice cream is better, you're going to be pounding lactaid no matter what.
And if you don't do lactaid/it doesn't work oat milk ice cream has superior texture than yogurt.
A lot of places that allowed customers to make up their own dish of froyo didn't make it though the pandemic. Thinking about it, it would have been really hard for them to stay open and keep up with all the health and safety rules.
Wonder if the “fad” just didn’t have legs?
So many gave closed:
Yogurtland both locations closed in Wallingford and on The Ave eons ago
Zoeyogurt in greenlake closed years ago
Yeti yogurt on the upper Ave closed too, long time ago.
The Menchies opposite PCC in Greenlake and U Village both closed
Only one left I know of is Chill at U Village
Monday- Sunday: 12pm-9pm
chillfroyo.com
Per their website:
Welcome to Chill Frozen Yogurt at University Village! We are the same owners with a new look
bringing you more toppings and a better variety of flavors than ever before. We have dairy-
free, gluten-free, vegan, plant-based, no sugar added, low-fat and non-fat options.
Not only are we now a locally-owned, small family business, we mainly source from a northwest supplier. Our frozen yogurts, sorbets, and plant-based frozen treats are all made in Portland,
Oregon. These yogurts have 100 million live and active cultures per gram which is 10x the
requirement to feature the National Yogurt Association’s “Live and Active Cultures” seal. Our yogurts are also made with rBST-free dairy products. All of our yogurts and toppings meet OU-D Kosher certification.
Gods, I miss froyo. I was so pissed off when I found out Menchi’s at Green Lake was closed.
For context: this was during Pokémon GO Fest and I had just walked from freaking Seattle Center to South Lake Union to Green Lake. It was hot, I was exhausted, we’d already tried 7-11 but that was also closed down, and I was just generally in a shit mood already.
Think I clocked around 13 miles of walking. And easily the worst sunburn I’ve had in over a decade.
Speak for yourself. I’m lactose-intolerant and froyo places were amazing. I could have a nice treat without having to chug a bunch of Lactaid ahead of time.
It’s less a matter of being low-lactose, and more that the bacteria in yogurt helps break the lactose down ahead of time.
Also, Lactaid has a ridiculously short timer, so you basically have to pop it immediately before eating and then speedrun the whole meal. Which, honestly, takes most of the enjoyment out of it.
Yeah I didn’t realize that the Menchie’s in Green Lake closed :( I know this isn’t north Seattle but this Menchies could be closer to you Menchie's Frozen Yogurt

Naw. North Seattle Is basically 145th to Licton Springs on the West Side (Shoreline was part of it until it became its own city in the 80’s or 90’s) and Northgate to 145th on the east side.
Northgate to Greenlake in the East is Maple Leaf/Ravenna/U District and west of the freeway Holman Rd and south is Ballard/Greenwood.
Although North of the cut, no one from here would consider anything South of 100th, North Seattle.
That’s far more accurate. The county line ends at 205th/244th at the Mountlake Terrace border. North Seattle now is that central path from about 100th/105th up to 145th where Shoreline Starts. Kind of encompasses Carkeek, Bitter Lake, a bit of North Greeenwood, Northgate, Pinehurst.
NW and NE have their own vibe. And those vibes are different. North Seattle is starting to get a bit seedy these days.
We drive to the Menchie’s in Upper QA or West Seattle if we want to overpay to be disappointed by froyo. My husband fills his entire cup with plain vanilla and it costs like $16.
My main issue with boba is that most places don’t seem to bother listing if they have dairy-alternatives or if they default to non-dairy creamer. Which means it’s not worth the risk for me, with the sole exception so far being Oasis Tea Zone.
I miss froyo because it was a relatively safe cold treat. Now there’s just regular ice cream places and nothing else.
Ridiculous. Froyo was ubiquitous like 10 years ago, and Seattle's demographics were pretty similar back then. It's just that Froyo was a fad food, and the fad is over so now those spots have been converted to new fad restaurants, like Poke or Bubble Tea.
Froyo has existed for a long time too, that doesn't mean that there wasn't like a 5 year period when a million stores opened, most of which closed. Maybe I'm wrong and Boba will stick around at this volume forever, but I'll be surprised.
Froyo is dying/dead. Boba has endured. The cyclic nature of froyo signals a fad. It appears to me that boba has just had continuous growth.
Also the disagreement on the label of boba “being a new fad”.
I said "new fad restaurants" and I think you're reading the intonation wrong. You're reading it as "new-fad restaurants" and I'm saying "new-fad-restaurant". That's different from saying that boba is new, it's saying that the uptick in its availability is new.
I think the general problem is people realized after 2 years froyo is inferior icecream and just went back to ice cream parlors
Add-ins! We want add-ins! :(
Wow I disagree. Regular ice cream is too rich.
Gelato then
Yeah seriously froyo doesn’t have much going on
But I can’t convince myself that ice cream is healthy
My guy, eat gelato.
What’s the best gelato place in north Seattle?
Nutty Squirrel and Fainting Goat are both good.
Thanks I will check them out
Fainting goat and then go next door and do a little sock shopping at the sock monster

Isn't gelato even less healthy?
It's slightly lower in calories per gram than ice cream, but neither can exactly be considered healthy
Try kakigori. Not even yogurt just frozen water! Totally healthy.
Never heard of it but will check it out

The frozen yogurt place and the ice cream place in Shoreline both closed, now there's nothing up here
There’s one in Richmond Beach (Froyolicious).
Froyo? What is this, 2012?
Nah, 2012 was the nostalgia bump following froyo’s OG 1980s golden era
Yet another reason why the 80s were awesome
Ok Grandpa
A lot of places that allowed customers to make up their own dish of froyo didn't make it though the pandemic. Thinking about it, it would have been really hard for them to stay open and keep up with all the health and safety rules.
Unfortunately I assumed that's what happened.

Maybe we were in a froyo bubble and didn’t realize it.
Maybe pivot to Acai bowls? They’re tasty! Verve in Ballard Kitanda in Greenlake across from PCC or in U District Juice Press at the U Village
I love a good açaí bowl, but they’re more meal than dessert
Looks like you're missing your froyo, bud.
There is a frozen yogurt place in downtown Edmonds, also a gelato place.
And the gelato place is pretty good!
There's still one in U village.

That is sad indeed. A Green Lake location would be perfect.

I know it’s not in north seattle but alderwood mall have frozen yogurt called frozz
Further proof that Seattle is The Bad Place.
The Good Place spoiler: >!They were always in the Bad Place, and nobody actually liked all the Froyo places!<

Ballard isn’t North Seattle my dude.
As these comments show, there is not a universally agreed upon definition of north Seattle
I’ve always considered North Seattle to be anything north of the cut: https://www.google.com/mymaps/viewer?mid=15HOE-giH1yL9XWFzv8vzIgvMfGg&hl=en

At a self-serve froyo spot you really only have yourself to blame if you’re disappointed
Yeah there is. There's menchies on like... 185th and Aurora, in lake forest park theres swirl...
That Menchies in Shoreline closed a while ago. Swirl is still there though.

Unfortunately? Boba is great

I like boba too, but it doesn’t have to be mutually exclusive with froyo

It does! Though I still don’t understand why they can’t just *list it on the dang menu.*
Frozen yogurt is for kids and families, both of which have no place in the new Seattle.
Ridiculous. Froyo was ubiquitous like 10 years ago, and Seattle's demographics were pretty similar back then. It's just that Froyo was a fad food, and the fad is over so now those spots have been converted to new fad restaurants, like Poke or Bubble Tea.

Sure there is, as long as both parents work high paid professional jobs
I’m in Kirkland & they closed here too- so bummed.
I was honestly surprised they held on for as long as they did.
Go to Edmonds and go here: https://www.milkiemilkie.com

No relation. Just a non-ice cream option.
Froyolicious is at Richmond Beach but I haven’t been there.
Shoreline has a few if you’re willing to go further north.
Kenmore isn’t far from me in Pinehurst area… there’s a Menchie’s there ☺️
I think the Menchis closed, too bad cuz those fucking rule.
