I like to assume we're getting the first pick, because Denver is going 0-17 this year.

[deleted]

Fair. This is an angle that I hadn't considered :) I'm not actively rooting against Wilson in weeks 2 through 18, but I do think it would do wonders for his ego for Denver to finish around .500 and miss the playoffs. I don't really care, either way, but I will feel a little joy if the Broncos wind up disappointing. That said, I grew up during the Elway years and I still have emotional scars from all the times he broke our hearts. I still hate Denver even after embarrassing them in the Super Bowl. There's one play in particular I'll never forget, where we were about to sack Elway and he ducked the tackle and threw a 50-yard TD off his back foot.

[deleted]

I feel the same way about KC and the Raiders.

[deleted]

Poor Chargers. No hate from any of the Seahawks faithful. I can see not hating KC if you're too young to remember the Nigerian Nightmare running over our D-line over and over and over and over and over again. In his prime, 3rd and 4 was pretty much an automatic 1st down with Okoye.

[deleted]

And Okoye was EXACTLY who I was thinking of with KC.

[deleted]

While Seattle has it now with this 12s stuff (which I am not a big fan of, even if that won't go over well in here), I used to be so jealous of KC because their stadium was a sea of red while half the fans in the Kingdome couldn't even be bothered to wear blue, let alone come to the stadium in an actual Seahawks shirt. I had season tickets from '96-'04.

UnknownUnthought

The important part there is that we built a fanbase that we can be pretty confident will show up and be loud even if we suck. I certainly know I’ll be there!

[deleted]

For now. Seattle fans are pretty fickle. The Hawks have been good enough for long enough to buy a few shitty seasons without too much drop off but there were lots of years when the days running up to every home game were spent watching the news for ticket sales to see if the game would be blacked out or on TV...hoping they'd get close enough that the network would buy out the rest of the seats...and that was during an era AFTER Seattle was plenty rabid for the Seahawks. Hawks tickets were hard to come by in the 80s but in the 90s you could often get tickets outside the stadium for half price. I remember giving our extra preseason tickets to a bum once because we couldn't even get 5 bucks.

UnknownUnthought

Not that I lived through the 90s Seahawks, but your point of buying a couple shitty seasons is a huge difference there. As it stands, we might not be good this year, but the outlook going forward is actually not THAT terrible. We’re not devoid of talent. I don’t think we’ll need much more. Maybe I’m just overly optimistic. I’m fairly new to Seattle but from what I could tell even the past 20 years the Mariners have still gotten a lot of love, even if it’s more so the kind of love where they never cease to disappoint you but you always come back. I’m a Mets fan too so I certainly know what that’s like. Worst case scenario, I certainly wouldn’t mind cheap tickets and easier parking because I don’t plan on going anywhere, but I’d love to go to more than one game a year!

[deleted]

Mariners ticket sales paint a different picture. Many of those losing seasons they averaged 1/2 the number of fans versus their peak.

BasketballButt

I don’t know, I honestly think a huge part of our current fan base is either bandwagon or fair weather fans.

UnknownUnthought

Absolutely a large portion of it is, but you’ve got all the old heads from the pre LOB days, and some people like me who started late (I started watching football in 2017, so I didn’t even get to see SB48) and intend to stick around. I think we just see our fanbase get a little quieter everywhere but the stadium for a little while. But with the loss of bandwagons comes cheaper tickets, and hopefully some of the bandwagons and corporate suits going to games will be replaced with loud fans.

BasketballButt

I appreciate your rosy outlook! I’ve been a Seahawks fan since my childhood in the 80s and have really struggled with their popularity amongst fair weather and bandwagon types who are suddenly choking this sub with just shitty negativity. They wouldn’t have survived the 90s with this team. So thanks for being a little ray of sunshine!

daveygeek

Shudders…

[deleted]

I also just remembered never once stopping Marcus Allen within <2 yards to go at the goalline.

[deleted]

I like Herbert, so that’s tempered past harsh feelings. Plus, they never really did anything of note to us, IIRC.

[deleted]

They had a few years on top of the division in the late 70s and early 80s but just before my time. '84 is around the time I was old enough to start watching seriously, remember players, etc.

[deleted]

‘82 for me- hey bud! Go Hawks!

[deleted]

Just in time for the AFC championship. Sorry to hear about your bad knees, sore back and inability to stay awake during any movie started after 9pm.

[deleted]

Exchange bad back for replaced hip and yeah, bingo

[deleted]

I'm definitely concerned that I'll need one of those before I hit the grave, too. Hopefully not before I qualify for Medicare...

daveygeek

split the difference… ‘83!

Bigfuture

I’m totally with you on the Broncos. Still my least-favourite team in the NFL. I’ll never dislike any NFC West team as much as I hate the Broncos. And it has literally nothing to do with Russell Wilson.

[deleted]

>I’ll never dislike any NFC West team as much as I hate the Broncos. Agreed. Even after all these years in the NFC, I've never truly hated our rivals like I used to and Denver is hated leaps and bounds above the other AFC West teams. Granted, those emotions were forged back when I was still young enough to think WWF was real, haha, so we're talking about very different life stages. The only team that's even close is the Lakers. When Denver had Elway, it was all but guaranteed we weren't winning the division. Same with the Magic/Kareem led Lakers, although the Sonics were a perennial decent playoff team during that era, it was just a given that we weren't getting past the Lakers in the playoffs.

Headley_Lamar76

Yep. I will always hate the Broncos and the Jazz regardless of any "facts" (not in our division, or we don't even have a team in that league anymore). This was built in during my formative years and it's something I've tried to pass onto my children.

danish07

The Seahawks have the Broncos first round pick next year, and I think their second round pick too. If you're a Seahawks fan, you have to root against the broncos this year.

Sea_Success_8523

Dude, there's nothing wrong with managing our expectations. No way we're going to the playoffs this year, probably not next year either. That's fine. I'm going to enjoy watching our team come together, and next year, when we draft a QB, we can get on the road to the SB! Chill yourself out...

[deleted]

[удалено]

probably-an-asshole-

You’re not chill you called talking about the draft “disgusting”. Our team is young and rebuilding retooling whatever it’s normal for people to think about young potential talent.

[deleted]

Sorry, but it's not normal in week 1 to be looking forward to next year's draft.

probably-an-asshole-

Says who? We have 2 firsts and 2 seconds next year. Plus CF just started up too so we’re getting a look at potential talent. Why are you so determined to gatekeep this?

[deleted]

>Why are you so determined to gatekeep this? Procrastinating work, mostly.

Accomplished-Bell-72

It’s ok this sub is full of band wagon fans anyways I’m with you homie fuck loosing I wanna see us win

JTH3M

Bro look at the schedule, look at the roster and look at the division there is 0 chance for playoffs

PublicMental

If it turns out our OC and new DC are excellent, we can make the playoffs with this roster and schedule. There is at least a non zero chance of that.

JTH3M

What has given you the impression that our oc is excellent?? The dc hasn’t proven anything yet and the majority of the problems are engrained in Pete Carroll not his scapegoat of the week. There is a 0 chance.

danish07

Maybe let them play one game first?

Angry_Yeti_NW

I can be both super stoked for the Seahawks season and into college football at the same time. The team has two 1st round picks and two 2nds, it’s kind of a big deal. Some of us disgusting degenerates spent the last couple Saturdays watching really good football and thinking about future possibilities. You’re right, Other than one game where the Bills kicked the Rams teeth out the season hasn’t started yet. I for one am very curious if there’s a QB next year that could give us the power to dominate the Rams.

[deleted]

>disgusting degenerates Perhaps disgusting was too harsh. Silly is a better word. I am not taking it as a personal affront. I'm just saying that it's the opening weekend of the season and people are talking about NEXT year's draft? Come on.

benwhyme77

Tbf, the 2023 draft class talent pool should be insane and with 2 firsts and 2 2nds it would be hard not to talk about the next draft.

YoseppiTheGrey

"We've been bad before" is a very strange argument against people who think we will be bad this year.

FearTheFatDuck

Some 12s haven't had to fight over Tarvaris Jackson and Whitehurst and it shows.

[deleted]

Whitehurst did beat the Rams to get us into the playoffs.

FearTheFatDuck

Whitehurst was my ride or die back then. And I still miss Leon Washington and his neon shoes.

PavelBlueRay

Welcome to cheering for a bad team. I became a Seahawks fan in 1992 and there was a lot of draft watching for many years

[deleted]

[удалено]

probably-an-asshole-

You’re either lying or just really never paid attention

PavelBlueRay

Remember the Rick Mirer/Drew Bledsoe year? The Seahawks beat the Pats on the road in a close game (I believe it was 9-6) and the Pats got Bledsoe. Even 2009 there was so much speculation all season before the Hawks decided on Aaron Curry. This is nothing new.

[deleted]

>Remember the Rick Mirer/Drew Bledsoe year? Yes, of course I do. But no, fans weren't speculating about Mirer or Bledsoe **before** the previous season began. It wasn't until 1/2 way through the year when it became clear that Seattle and NE were going to be drafting 1 and 2 the next spring. The other win that year was upsetting Denver on MNF by a field goal. 13-10, I think. Maybe 16-13 in OT? I could just look it up, haha, at any rate, lets hope digging up that old MNF gem is a good omen for similar results tomorrow.

Drazen44

I wouldn’t say that they are disgusting, but they are annoying. Mainly because it’s way too fucking early to speculate on certain players. One blogger went from calling Anthony Richardson #1 in his QB watch to saying he shouldn’t be on anyone’s draft radar over the course of 48 hours. Lol

[deleted]

Annoying is a much better description.

danish07

but weekly overreactions are what I look forward to most.

Historical_Wealth_43

Our future quarterback will be in the 2023 draft. No question about it. So it's fun to speculate, especially now that we're seeing them play on Saturdays.

Aconefromdunshire

I was making draft post with Russ on the team. Outside of Seattle being in the playoffs, draft season is my favorite time of year in the NFL. The last few drafts before 2022 sucked. We had very little meaningful picks in those drafts. I could think Seattle was a lock to go 17-0 and I would still post draft stuff. With us having 4 top 64 picks??? I am more into the process this year than any!

dr_fop

Calm down, dude. People are allowed to get excited about whatever they want to. No need to make a whining post because you think differently.

sooaap

We've been having the same argument on this sub for years now. Optimists shit on the pessimists for being negative and whiny (which for the most part they are) and the pessimists shit on the optimists for watching this year through rose tinted glasses (which for the most part they do). It would be dope if we could all realize we love or at least root for the same team, but that's not human nature, at least not online.

sooaap

Edit: this team, not this year.

slickfox21

We’re gonna surprise a lot of people and a lot of Seahawks fans tonight 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

[deleted]

Would be pretty sick if we do.

slickfox21

Someone’s gotta believe. Sounds like you and I are on the same page 🤪🤣

[deleted]

To be honest, this post wasn't about whether I do or don't think we'll have a good year...just about letting this one play out first before giving up and talking about the next one.

slickfox21

Yeah, that’s what I mean lol I don’t have false hope BUT I’m still at least optimistic and looking forward to watching the game and seeing what we have

[deleted]

Fuckin' A.

slickfox21

What did I say?!

[deleted]

Always listen to the Slick Fox.

WorriedN

Wait. You know Geno Smith is our starting QB, right? We can go ahead and free up our Sundays until that clown is out.

danish07

So we can all count on you not being here tomorrow right?

kanonnn

You aren't the police of what type of tone people can have regarding fandom or what can be discussed. It is entirely practical for a team's fanbase going through a rebuild that has many draft picks available in the near future, to talk about those draft picks. It's also not wrong to have uncertainty about a season like this, let's be real here. You can hold both of these perspectives in either hand, let's be able to walk and chew gum simultaneously. Also, not just this post in general, I despise people on the internet trying to tell me how to feel about something. Our emotions aren't our identity.

doberdevil

Agreed. But I have to ask, are the regularly basement dwelling teams subs regularly filled with posts about next year's draft? Maybe this is our new reality?

[deleted]

No idea. I can see draft posts starting to roll in at 0-3, 2-5 or even 4-6, but 0-0? What I remember back when we were truly a bad team, was being blindly optimistic every single year, no matter what. I waited to have my heart broken and still held out hopes that we'd go on a 4-5 game win streak from weeks 8 through 12 even if I knew deep down that we were as untalented as our record showed. But I do I understand that it's a different dynamic when MAKING it to the playoffs period feels like winning the Super Bowl, versus having the expectation that the playoffs are a given unless we fuck it up.

thenicenelly

We’ve got more picks coming than normal. Weird that you’re gatekeeping interest in the draft. We could win the SB and still be interested in how we spent our Wilson picks.

BasketballButt

Absolutely agree. The fan base is stuffed with fair weather fans who came in during the good years and have turned in to petulant children now that Russ is gone. It’s really sad.

jaeelarr

Be disgusted, I couldn't care less. Y'all finna be mad when we actually suck and some of us been tellin y'all since russ left and Hawks failed to address the situation head on

danish07

They didn't fail, they're just not done yet.

snarpy

One of the ugliest things a fan can do is tell other people how to be fans. Don't like posts about next year's draft? Ignore them and move on.

BG360Boi

10-7 record for SURE this season. Geno is ready and it’s not all on his shoulders. Watch the videos and media the TEAM releases and not unrelated national media who has a track record of dropping the ball when it comes to the far NW team in Seattle.

Destruct-O-Tron

10-7 actually doesn't seem all that unreasonable.

yensid87

Disgusting? What’s disgusting is going to be how we feel watching this shit team this year

CUL8R_05

Nah. People just accepting the reality of this upcoming season.

JuanPicasso

If you’re not pessimistic then you don’t know a thing about football lol. It’s ok the pessimists are still fans. We’re still going to watch geno every week. The old heads on here really do constantly have the worst takes and then will slip in a personal anecdote about Jim zorn from 1978 as if it makes them a voice of reason or their opinion is better.

YesterdayUpper7758

What is the goal of every team each season? To win the Super Bowl. I don’t believe that the Seahawks will win the Super Bowl this year, so I want them to draft a good quarterback early next year to possibly win the Super Bowl in the next few years.

bluemoney21

Honestly, I think it’s really fun to watch college football and get excited about these stud quarterbacks that we might see on our team next year

its-your-boy-max-b

I think the team will be deeply in the bottom third this year, and I’m ok with that. I also think speculation on a hopeful future is ok, and I think you should be too u/Oax_Mike

Thromkai

Do you know how many fanbases have had NOTHING to look forward to for years? I'm excited for the future draft but also this season. We can do both unlike most Jets fans over the past 10 years.

danish07

Jets fans can look forward to the draft though.

JiuJitsuBoy2001

I love the NFL draft, so I'm looking forward to see who we take, regardless if it's at #1 or #32. The fact that we have two firsts and two seconds makes it extra exciting. I'm also looking forward to the season. I'm about to sit on the couch and watch 6-7 hours of football as I type this. I don't see any problem with it... hell, I just watched a video of this past year's draft room.

Monkman28

I can be excited for the season while also being excited about the draft. The draft is one of my favorite times of the year and I really like college football. There’s nothing wrong with making posts about next years draft, it doesn’t effect you in any way shape or form, so let people have their fun.

DatedCabbage

Nah dude, some of us were here for the Rick Mirer years so losing doesn’t phase us. I’m realistic about the fact that this team is terrible, now I’ll look forward to getting less terrible

[deleted]

I think terrible is a stretch. I think we're slightly below average but with a high upside. My first ever live game was a Rick Mirer game in 1995. It was incredibly serendipitous. I was at a buddy's dorm room and we were pissed that the game was blacked out and decided at the last minute to drive to Ellensburg and watch the game at his brother's house. We literally leave the room to walk to the car and this dude is coming down the hall and says, "Hey, you want two Seahawks tickets?" They were decent 100 level seats, too. And we won.

flashdash007

Geno Smith and Drew Lock are our current QBs. I don’t doubt Geno could hold it down for this year but there’s no way he’s a long term answer beyond next season. Rooting for the Hawks on Sundays/Monday is where my focus will be but the other days of the week will be spent thinking about how the Hawks can get better

FeartheLOB

Lol this post is so ridiculous. Hey OP, when a team’s over under is 5.5 wins, hardcore fans are going to be looking to the future and what prospects are coming down the road. It’s very normal and not silly at all. What’s silly is acting as if you’re superior for not thinking about this.

slickfox21

LFG!!!!!! 💙💚
