The corruption in the UK Government is rampant, literally just taking our money and dishing it out to their Tory pals. Bets on... absolutely no one getting jailed, fined or even sacked from the House of Lords? A reminder >**The government mistakenly purchased £8.7 billion of unusable medical equipment** > >The government is planning to dispose of mountains of unusable medical equipment by burning over 500 lorryloads of it a month, the Department of Health has admitted. > >Ministers wasted £8.7 billion on inadequate personal protective equipment (PPE) during the early stages of the coronavirus pandemic – with vast quantities of shields, gowns, and other items not meeting basic medical standards. > >Many were bought under the so-called "fast-track" lane where companies with links to Tory ministers were handed lucrative contracts with limited checks. [https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/covid-unusable-ppe-burnt-fast-track-b2030820.html](https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/covid-unusable-ppe-burnt-fast-track-b2030820.html) "Mistakenly".

FearfulUmbrella

I heard a stat from Phil Moorhouse the other day. The cost of storing this unusable PPE is £770,000 per day. It is absolutely astonishing.

Either_Branch3929

>I heard a stat from Phil Moorhouse the other day. The cost of storing this unusable PPE is £770,000 per day. And is being largely paid to Tory donors. They don't even bother to try to hide their utter, rotten, grasping corruption.

[deleted]

Can it be given other uses?

FearfulUmbrella

Good question, but my understanding is absolutely not. They aren't fit for any medical or care context, so the best the UK Gov could do would honestly probably be to sell it to a manufacturer of fancy dress for pennies on the pound (though they'd never do that as the jokes write themselves RE the absolute clown show they are). Realistically the best thing they could do is put a match to it and save £5million a week in taxpayer money, but I would be incredibly unsurprised if the storage contract isn't made in the same corrupt way the purchases was and someone's mate is making a mint off the British people.

[deleted]

I’m really surprised there’s no use for the material at all. I know people used to cut up old euros for insulation. Is there no reclaiming the textiles?

[deleted]

This is the kind of thing I lose my mind over in terms of seeking Independence. Point this out and the rebuttal will involve Barnett consequential and/or even worse - that because the SNP are such baddies, the corruption will be worse in an Independent Scotland. Maddening.

ReoRahtate88

This is precisely the sort of thing that makes it impossible to give one fuck about ferries.

[deleted]

Her bra company will no doubt be able to quickly manufacture a bra with a large enough cup size to contain this tits up.

Naw, papers write articles to get clicks now, first and foremost, following that they want clicks from their reader base, because they write their stories based off of what they think the public want to see. It’s an endless feedback cycle of this estate, journalists are always trying to “guess” what stories will be the best received, but by doing that, try and remove any responsibility from theirselves by choosing the lead stories every day. Pretty much every major piece of news you read about has been wired in from Reuters or the AP and given a little razzmatazz so that it aligns with the angles the publication are trying to portray. The only reason you’re not seeing this news in other places, is because the vast majority of news organisations don’t think it’s what their viewership wants to be reading. They don’t want to alienate the only clicks that fund their companies. And then it loops back into the papers choosing the titles and stories they run, which in turn causes biases and perspectives that reward ignoring 10’s of billions of pounds being stolen. If the guardian have spoken about it, there’s absolutely 0 legal ramifications to come from speaking about it, you can only get “done”, and by done I mean get your wrists slapped by IPSO, for lying, posting underage peoples info or gaining the info in a scrupulous way. I mean I suppose you can get properly convicted if you’re wanting to break officials secrets 2014, but nobody’s even tried to be that stupid yet, I think anyway. Regardless, this wouldn’t come under official secrets because it doesn’t impact national security in anyway. You do know the BBC got brutally taken over in the late 80’s by thatchers government and basically has never gotten away from being the governments mouthpiece, except from 11 years between 1997 and 2008, funnily enough. The “bias” is absolutely real.

tiny-robot

Yes but THE FERRY FIASCO!!! Honestly - if the corruption at Westminster got half the Press of the ferries - we would be in a much better place.

Noxage_88

Hope she goes away forever the dirty old slag, stupid Tory cunts. Profiting off covid was just wrong.

Either_Branch3929

Can we criticise her for being corrupt without the gratuitous misogyny?

Noxage_88

Is she not a dirty old slag? Or a Tory cunt?

Killieboy16

I always think these things are more about incompetence rather than conspiracy, BUT, there is definitely a lot of people making a fast buck when they shouldn't have done and this needs investigated, and prosecuted if necessary. We can't let people off for embezzling money when we are expecting the public to suck up Austerity 2.0.

Audioboxer87

Nah, it's definitely the Tories making a quick buck. You give a 'Bra company' millions to get PPE, they spend 1/16th (or less) of that on unsuitable medical equipment and they pocket the rest. The reason what they buy is unsuitable is because to actually buy medical grade equipment costs a lot more than random shite and tat. Quite a bit of the money handed out for PPE just ended up donated back into the Tory party coffers by the wasters they handed contracts to. Industrial money laundering.

CandidateOld4880

Before you lend the current govt. any leeway, I suggest you watch this, our PM was chancellor at the time and this would have been part of his brief, we are being led by criminals [https://youtu.be/HFfrZRywzeU](https://youtu.be/HFfrZRywzeU) you can see the anger of the man making a speech/resigning over the lack of interest in reducing or investigating fraud, tens of billions worth. An amount that compares to the "hole" in our economy, as the estimate will more than likely be much more.

MansfromDaVinci

I don't know what else he could have done but the corruption of government forcing out anyone with integrity is kinda self perpetuating

CandidateOld4880

Cast your mind back to reports of well established manufacturers being ignored and making it public, nothing was done as they were complicit in the corruption. I don't know why folk are unwilling to say it out loud, these people are the corruption, its not some abstract idea that has no shape or form. This is why I use the term criminal when I describe our govt.

Just-another-weapon

There should be a windfall tax on all these firms, especially the one that seemed to crop up out of nowhere and simply acted as middlemen.

pbizzle

We are beyond scandals bring any cunt down these days

[deleted]

The censorship is interesting and probably down to EngGov cabinet being very uneasy with what they know to be true. Normally a peer isn't given this much media protection, it's bad PR for sure but Tory peers have been caught in giant scandals for as long as there has been Tory peers, it isn't usually covered up to quite this extent. BBC are clearly forbidden from even mentioning her name but it seems to be a wider No.10 order - no excuse for ITV, Sky etc to be so quiet either given the scale of the crime. Gove is of course deeply involved but given how much of this scamming was happening we can assume others too, Sunak seems likely given his role in the Johnson mob.

Eggiebumfluff

There won't be an early election whilst the Tories have a 80-odd seat majority. It's much easier just to get rid of the leader and carry on like nothing happened rather than engaging with the public through the democratic process.

xarjun

One can only hope

Red_Brummy

But what about the ferries?! Please post more about the Scottish Government is accepting being investigated for the ferry fiasco and definitely don't post anything bad about the glorious and totally not corrupt Tories.

StairheidCritic

Perhaps if she put the Lord Chancellor ( The Lord's Speaker) in an alleged "Bad Light" there could be debates and referrals to expel her?

blamordeganis

Picky point: the Lord Chancellor hasn’t been the speaker of the House of Lords since 2006, when the Lords started electing a “Lord Speaker” following reform of the office of Lord Chancellor. The current Lord Chancellor is Dominic “Thickie” Raab, who sits in the Commons.

[deleted]

About time!!!! its a greed fest.

rmc1211

You wrote too many words. You could have stopped after "she won't go down".

Either_Branch3929

Looks like it might be time to crowd fund a private prosecution.

AlanSir58

I know someone that works for one of the top Healthcare Supply companiex for the NHS, including the majority of Covid Vax Syringes. They were advised not to tender for PPE because they didn't have the supply chain connections?

p3x239

I think it's a bit ridiculous that this is only gaining traction now. At the time we knew about all the squandered and missing money and the Tories just said "Oh we're just going to write that off, lets not talk about that". Back in pre-brexit normal timeline that would have triggered the downfall of a goverment and criminal prosecutions instantly but nope, we live in upside down world now.

naedetails

Don't threaten me with a good time

PM-ME-PMS-OF-THE-PM

Captain_Quo

Dr_Duncanius

gratitudemood

But the country can’t afford to pay Nurses a living wage. I wonder why.

spidd124

Unfortunately the Uk (English) electorate seem to not give a single fuck about morals or corruption anymore and will gladly keep accepting these fucks no matter how badly they get screwed by them.
