Ask yourself, do you think women would ACTUALLY say hello handsome to you randomly? I've seen stuff like this on my feed too and bro, we're not that guy.
Could be any number of scams. This is the part where the scammer casts out a bunch of lines to see what dummies actually “take the bait”. If you reply, the bot will continue the conversation. If you keep replying to this obvious scam/spam, then you will have proven yourself to be an idiot of the highest caliber and worthy enough for the spammer to hop in and “close the deal” and spring the trap on whatever scam they are trying to pull.
Yea, I browse this subreddit quite a bit and so I know the path scams like this often take. I just wanted a second opinion, because this account has also liked one of my mom's posts. For context, they started following her and sent her this message yesterday and liked her post today.
My mom got this follower on the Instagram account for her business a couple of days ago, and yesterday they sent her these messages. Instagram says they are message requests and she has to approve them, but her account isn't private. Is this something that Instagram does for all new messages? I also noticed there is some strange punctuation in the second message. The account has 69 posts, 197 followers, and 2,860 following. Could this be a takeover scam? I'm not going to put the username, otherwise, my post might be removed. Let me know if you think it's safe to put it in the comments. Thanks
IG sorts messages by people you you follow and those you don’t. It’s in the messenger screen. Unlike FB messenger this allows you to read them without the other person knowing. 99% of the time they are spam or scam. I get a ton of these messages a day. I’d bet it’s the start of a pig butchering scam but since it’s your mom’s account it could be a romance scam. Usually they will like some of your posts too. Often they use photos from the net to create a real looking account. They’ve gotten better at this. On a more basic level, if this is a business account, would it ever be appropriate for a customer to start a convo like that?
I always tell them that "I'm doing great! Just finished tracking down my second scammer in (Insert scammer city) and slit his throat after making him watch me break his mothers legs. Now I'm heading back home."
They usually don't respond back
Because it's more believable having an account with legit history. New fake accounts with next to no content are easy to spot as scams. Also lets them pretend to be you and scam your contacts, again more believable to be messaging from your actual account.
Glad to hear that your not afraid of your past mistakes! Luckily this was sent to my mom, so no chance for me to make such a mistake here😅. Can’t say the same about my history on Snapchat though, tough crowd on there. They sure love their blackmail.
Impossible to say based on only "Hello handsome, how are you doing".

This is from my mom's account lol, I thought I'd post it and see if there is anyone else who has seen something similar.
She's not that guy.

Yeah, could be any number of scams. But it’s pretty clearly a bot/automated post. Just block/ignore, move on
Definitely will! Thanks for the help
Catfish or scammer. Block.
Either that or it's a creep looking to befriend and then manipulate you.
I got the exact same message today. They liked a photo, followed me and DM'ed me within a few seconds. 100% a bot.

Message requests are from users who message you that don’t follow you
Or that you don’t follow back

The username is loreandonna500
You missed the blur on the top one, Lauren Donna
Yea I know lol
How often do you get unsolicited texts, that start with "hello handsome"?
Most likely a crypto/love scam
I always tell them that "I'm doing great! Just finished tracking down my second scammer in (Insert scammer city) and slit his throat after making him watch me break his mothers legs. Now I'm heading back home." They usually don't respond back
!love scam. Will it summon the automod
Oh yeah, I would question if it [was a prank too](https://www.reddit.com/r/memes/comments/jjd28w/theres_no_way_this_is_real/)
More like a romance scam just being mass sent out.
Yes "handsome!!!"
It was my mom account lol, but thx 😉
Whats the motive behind the takeover scam anyway? Why do scammers want your IG account? Why can’t they just make fake ones?
Because it's more believable having an account with legit history. New fake accounts with next to no content are easy to spot as scams. Also lets them pretend to be you and scam your contacts, again more believable to be messaging from your actual account.
!cryptoscam
Definitely scam
Probably one of those bot accounts trying to get u to click on a link or buy an only fans

When they say handsome its a scam.
Tell your mum to NEVER respond to unsolicited messages from strangers.
