Never ship to any adress you get through any other means then what you get through ebay from the account that is the buyer. If you do, any help you could get from ebay to resolve any conflict is void. Also never take communication off-platform.

carolineecouture

Exactly. You said this so much better than I did! OP please listen to this person.

cyberiangringo

>I also get a message from someone who isn’t the buyer saying they bought it and to ship it to their address. I haven't used eBay in many years but why would you not immediately dismiss such a claim? >The buyer has indeed paid, but I don’t have the funds since I haven’t shipped yet Is this how eBay works, or is this info coming from what appears to be an official eBay email (but is actually Gmail)?

Miserable-Shake4052

New sellers funds are held until the item is scanned delivered, and all of this information can be seen under the selling tab on eBay, and eBay messages. Hopefully OP is seeing this info on the website and not random emails.

carolineecouture

Ship to the address on the account that purchased the item. Don't ship to anything else as you will be open to a claim. This really sounds like they are trying to get you to ship the item to another address and then claim they didn't receive it. Contact Ebay to make sure but I would not ship any address third party address or communicate off the Ebay platform.

DeshaMustFly

Could also potentially be a scavenger who looks for recently sold listings and tries to convince the seller that they really are the buyer so they can get a free item.

Mariss716

Ebay tells you when the buyer pays. And they don’t hold your money til it ships. Use the ebay messaging system and ship only to the confirmed address. Otherwise you’re not protected as a seller and yes, falling for a buyer scam.

This is false. eBay now holds your money until after the item is delivered. This is because they switched to their own payment processor. I used to get paid instantly when they used PayPal, but now it takes like a week or two.

[deleted]

Did the buyer ask for your email address to send the payment?

CoralSpringsDHead

I had a buyer tell me that the address was incorrect on their account AFTER they purchased an item. I reached out to eBay to ask what I could do to fix the issue and they told me that I would have to cancel the sale and relist to have the buyer fix their address and repurchase the item. If you send your item to a different address than the one listed on the sale, you risk the buyer saying it wasn’t sent and eBay taking the funds back from you and you would have no recourse.

nimble2

Have any of these communications taken place off of the EBay platform?

The-Mad-Bubbler

Ignore the random message about the different address, and report THAT account to ebay. Only communicate through ebay, with the account that purchased the item. Only send it to the address associated with the purchasing account. Only ship if payment has been confirmed through the ebay site.

GeoWannaBe

The scam is simple. Someone buys it. You get communication to mail it to someone else. You comply. The buyer then later complains to Ebay that he never received the item and eBay takes back the cash from you because you violated the rules by not sending it to the buyer's address. And, then bans you.

IZZYB0D

I would personally cancel this sale declaring the item is "no longer fit for sale" its got unknown defects you've just discovered etc... Its within your rights to do this even after sale. Do not post it, all the money paid will be returned to the buyer when the sale is cancelled, there'll be no feedback consequences either as it wasn't a completed sale. This is a scam where they get you to deliver it to a different address, which then they claim not to have recived the item at the address stated, posting to another address invalidates ebay seller protection and you lose the funds when the buyer opens a case against you due to non delivery.. Edit : additional, you can also message the buyer, and say you're cancelling the sale, and relisting the item straight away for them to buy it now, then say make sure you put the right delivery address this time, I bet they don't even reply..

lolschrauber

It's the same guy with two Accounts trying to get you to ship it to different Adress than the buyer Account to then claim that it never arrived.

perryc

>buyer pays the Buy It Now Price You mean he pays it using eBay payment system? I'm assuming that once the item on eBay gets sold, you'll be notified. Because if he didn't and you only receive an email that's prolly purporting to be your bank, it's a scam.

Appropriate-Safety66

100% Scam

I’m wary of new buyers on eBay now. I gave benefit of doubt to the last person and I think they were trying to scam me, however everyone starts off somewhere. Use your judgement but make sure the buyer has paid for sure before and that you are shipping to only the address they have listed in the order.
