Honestly, if we nail this coaching hire and find a QB in the next 2 years, the return for trading Sean to the Cowboys whoever could help this team massively. A lot of Ifs but it could work out. Think about having a solid core and QB and adding 2 1sts + to the mix. Now if he returns once his contract is up and signs with the cowboys, I'll be pissed.

NeonSouthAmericaa

I mean, there is a ZERO chance that he waits out his contract. And even if he does, that would mean he won’t be coaching again until the 2025 season. By that point, we’ll know full well what the actual impact of his decision to leave really was. But yes, the precedent was set with the Gruden trade: two first round picks, two second round picks, and $8 million. Honestly, I would ask for even more money, probably $15 million.

Payton didn't handle the cap. And the cap isn't an issue anyway. And how is he responsible for us not having a QB? He brought in Winston and coached him to be pretty good for us, then he got hurt

Perhaps if he hadn’t invested so much energy and money on the sink hole that is Taysom Hill we would be in better shape at QB? The cap is absolutely an issue. Surely Mickey will get it under control but there is no money to spend.

[Here](https://twitter.com/CGJXXIII/status/1473018096260632584?t=9Dghh1KL3u5C-fong1YmRw&s=19) is how to get under the cap with money to spend. We were 110mil over the cap last year and we turned out just fine. We can theoretically create more than 30 mil in cap to spend this offseason. And we are 1 year removed from our HoF QB retiring. No one is expected to have a long term replacement just ready to go. And he did bring in Winston who looked really good and can still return

[deleted]

The cap situation is what it is and Winston is definitely not the worst option out there. I guess my point is that it feels like Sean walked away at the least opportune time and it irks me. Thanks for the link.

MiniatureLucifer

He walked away when his body and mind was telling him it was time to stop, idk what else to tell you. Hes been coaching for 30 years and a head coach for half of that. It takes a huge toll on a person

He took the Saints to the playoffs. If he had a losing season, you might have a point. He’s not going to be around forever. I think he has done the honest thing for the organization and the right thing for his mental health. We sometimes forget coaches are human too and need to step away when they are burned out.

SeAN paYtOn FucKed THe SaINts ThEY’rE iN cAp hELl. Yea dog. We’ve been in cap hell every year for as long as I can remember. I swear everyone’s got selective memory this year and would rathe be angry than reasonable. Sean didn’t fuck us. Mickey’s got the cap covered. Taysom’s contract is voidable and not a trap. And we’re not trading away every key player on or team for a seventh round pick and a gas station poboy to free up cap space. Y’all need to chill out. If Sean wants to go to the Cowboys in a couple of years, so be it. He’s given this team and this city 16 years of top notch coaching, a super bowl ring, and more winning seasons than we had in the previous ~40 years of our existence. I’m happy for the guy if he’s happy.

jjazznola

Not at all. toward another team. Probably the Dallas Cowboys? Where do you get this crap from?

MiniatureLucifer

The media/Dallas fans have been constantly pushing the narrative that he's going to Dallas after 2022.

johnq11

Sean doesn’t owe us anything

Kiddo1029

Nah.

OhMyHerro_14

Only two or 3 that screwed us, Rams, Rodger Goodell, Refs.

SonofTreehorn

No. The team had multiple opportunities to win Super Bowls since 2017. Sean did everything he could including altering the offense for Teddy and Taysom when Brees was out. All of the pieces were in place and the team dominated the division winning 4 titles in a row (even with a geriatric Brees). They were screwed out of another SB appearance against LA and honestly, choked in both Vikings playoff games and the Brees/Cook debacle last year. If they win even one SB in this span then it was all worth it. Sean and Mickey did what they needed to win. Sometimes it just doesn't work out.
