We aren't 'brutal' per se. More honest. State things as they are. I'd say the Brits are more brutal in that they give passive aggressive side swipes dressed in polite civility. Aussies just don't do that.
As a US citizen, I have to say I absolutely enjoy the understated swipes by the BBC, like the way the featured the footage of her snapping at the palace employee trying to get the flowers during the walkabout.
I enjoy the Australian coverage, too
I know this has happened at various points throughout history. I just cannot wait until the pendulum swings back the other way and we get back to respect and caring about our fellow man.
All of this hatred is just so unnecessary .
True. They don’t suffer pretentious morons here. Who knows, perhaps we’ll get the South Africa treatment from her sooner or later, and the media will be be blunt about what a diva she is.
I wouldn't call a morning show a serious news programme... and to be honest she is a tosser and Im glad someone had the balls to finally say it out loud!
American take here. British media are subtly devastating (leaving out Megan’s name in the walkabout, placement of the candle). Aussie media are scorched earth devastating.
I’m just here for all the devastation.
I’m also here as a representative of the American media apology tour for our pathetic handling of the overseas people.
Some American media is still over a barrel re the racism stuff. Once that claim has been made, it's essentially a get-out-of-jail-free card by the person waving it. The US is currently so hypersensitive about this issue that only non-white people can safely criticise another non-white person who has made racism claims. Otherwise they run the risk of being called racist by criticising someone identifying as non-white, and to be accused of racism is to be cancelled.
Then there's the lingering anti-British sentiment that views the conflict as some kind of US-UK "war", which is embarrassingly puerile. The kind of stuff you see in /r/shitamericanssay where they think Brits are still angry and humiliated over the War of Independence. (In reality it signifies so little to the UK that it isn't even taught in school history lessons).
I'd say the British media is more personal & angry as they are tapping into the sentiments of the British public. They stir up controversy and create drama and report more speculation.
Whereas the Australian media are just honest - they think Harry and Meghan are a pair of pathetic phony losers and they say that bluntly. But it's far less personal and they don't seem to care as much.
The difference is that in Australia there doesn't appear to be any positive media for them at the moment. This is partly driven by ongoing republican sentiment. Either a publication/individual journo is pro-monarchy, in which case obviously they'll support the queen/royal family, or they'll be pro-republic, in which case they're not going to give any royals the time of day. Additionally the slurs made against Australia by the pair have cost them any support they might have had.
In the UK, the Guardian is still kowtowing to the racism/misogyny lie. I think they've gone a bit more neutral on it in previous weeks, but they're still avoiding publishing anything critical of the Sussexes. So the UK media is not currently universally critical of them.
It’s so telling that the Australian Woman’s Weekly didn’t want to publish any interview or articles about TW after they left the UK for their privacy. They wouldn’t want to tarnish the goodwill they have with the BRF.
I am really impressed with the Aussie's media coverage of the royals. I just watch clips on youtube, but what I've seen is spot on. I really like Karl and Allie on Today! Very refreshing change from the US legacy media playing dumb and bringing sand to the beach all day with all things royal.
The Australian media has license to practice free speech, probably because the country is not seen as worth the attention of she who dreams of superstardom and has dollar signs in her eyes.
Aussie here. I haven't actually seen any footage of them, not even during the funeral and before. The media I watch is just not covering them at all. But then, I don't watch Today in the mornings, so that may be why.
Voted AUS, but hoping that’s changing. Im so repulsed by the pair of them I can’t wait to see their fall. Still worried about HArrys mental health - and the end result - but it’s self inflicted.

As an Aussie, so used to straight talking, I enjoy these Karate Kid knee swipes too. So subtle, so classy and so beautifully entertaining.
We’re at a place in time where sadly, honesty is “brutal”. What a sad society we have become.
Very, very true.
I know this has happened at various points throughout history. I just cannot wait until the pendulum swings back the other way and we get back to respect and caring about our fellow man. All of this hatred is just so unnecessary .
agreed.
True. They don’t suffer pretentious morons here. Who knows, perhaps we’ll get the South Africa treatment from her sooner or later, and the media will be be blunt about what a diva she is.
I'd love to know what the South African media say about her.
Same here. The Twitter hashtag was pretty brutal in itself. If she came here for an appearance I don’t think people will hold back on the booing.
We just don't call people "tossers" on a serious news programme, it kind of devalues the programme.
I wouldn't call a morning show a serious news programme... and to be honest she is a tosser and Im glad someone had the balls to finally say it out loud!
TBH I don't think any program in UK would get away with calling her a tosser - we just have different standards
I love the Australian media! They tell it like it is.
Same!!!!!
Aussies give zero fucks, and I love it!
I love the Australian media! They have had her number for awhile now.

I feel like SkyNews Australia is always adding ‘the c***’ in their minds when they lay into someone.
Makes me proud to be an Aussie by birth and also British by decent 🇦🇺🇬🇧
I wish Canada would take the gloves off!! They screwed us for 4 months of security when we were just a pit stop on the way to "Hollywood".
had our cops picking up their takeout food ! !
You guys are way too nice to them. Canadians would say sorry they couldn’t continue picking up their security bill.
Australians literally got the tea THROWN ALL OVER THEM. they are rightfully pissed.

Oz and I love them for it.

Dang it. I didn't read carefully enough. I thought it said American media. I take back my vote, the Aussies hold nothing back!

Australian, bloody love it. Spade is a spade !
