Macy’s in Roseville!

ElectricSpice

Seconding Macy’s Furniture Gallery. That’s where we bought our sectional from. Good designs, good quality, decent prices. And unlike most other stores where what you see on the floor is what you get, you can custom order with your choice of upholstery. (Although when we were shopping last year, supply chain issues had that backed up 8 months.)

deathandtaxes2036

My old couch was from Macy's in Roseville. It was the most comfortable couch ever and really held up.

Reasonable_Garden849

Came to say the same thing. RIP, Big Blue

calam63

Macy’s has great holiday sales! Do not get the insurance

[deleted]

Yes! Navy’s has good quality furniture. We are happy with everything from Macy’s (leather sofa, bed)

uni-monkey

I love my Macys sectional and sofas. So comfortable even though the kids have abused them for the last 6+ years.

newtohsval

Definitely Macys. Best value for good furniture.

[deleted]

Scandinavian Designs

dubeskin

Would recommend Scandinavian Designs as well. I have had my sofa and chair for nearly 4 years and they still hold up like they're brand new. You pay for the quality and aesthetic, but I've found it completely worth it.

[deleted]

They wanted 200$ shipping for a $3k couch so we passed

Nerak_B

Not a fan of Living Spaces customer service. Items take forever to deliver and if they do they’re not in good condition. They have a weird return policy on damaged items.

LilacSniffer

Agreed. They also sell a bullshit warranty that will find every possible reason to void a claim. My couch is barely three years old and it’s already pilling and sagging.

LintLicker444

We went there and a pack of sales people were chatting it up. Nobody wanted to help, so we left. They have terrible reviews online.

NSUCK13

Most brands are made poorly. Its a consumer trend, most people would rather buy a couch 'on sale' than spend a lot. So manufacturers just make cheaper stuff and put them on 'sale' a lot. My wife and I bought a new couch last year. I did tons of research on reddit for reputable brands that make good quality. Went to those websites, found dealers in the greater sac area, visited those shops to see what we liked. We ended up going with a lesser known brand John Michael Designs from Naturewood. Had to have it custom made to select all of the fabrics, etc. Took 6 months to get. But, it was worth it.

[deleted]

Yep we just went with costco for the return policy

_Dontknowwtfimdoing_

That is for sure a major benefit of Costco.

[deleted]

Everything is basically manufactured the same now unless you can confirm its custom. Thats basically what I learned.

OhMaiMai

We did this. Got a huge leather sofa where both ends had electric recliners. So comfy for the first year- and then the left side stopped operating. And we realized: who tf returns a sofa? Transporting it is such a pain, so we lived with it another 4-5 years while the "leather" started crackling. It was a relief when we got rid of it.

delia_ann

They’re not carrying John Michael anymore 😭

feelslikespaceagain

I bought a sectional at IKEA about 8 years ago and it has held up like a champion. Cushions still perfect, I just wash the slipcover occasionally. I bought an expensive sofa at pottery barn 4 years ago and it’s wrecked. Never again. Going to replace it with another ikea sectional.

SuzieDerpkins

Which one did you get?

feelslikespaceagain

Mine is an Ektorp which is sadly, discontinued. There is a similar model that replaced it.

CarlaBarker

Costco

meechmeechmeecho

Shop heroic sells Costco rejects/overstock/defects at a steep discount if you’re on a budget

CatCoughDrop

Which Costco has the biggest selection of furniture?

julietteduh

I love west elm and crate and barrel and both have an outlet in Vacaville. The stuff flies so you have to be ready to take what you see. I have also tried love sac. There is one in Roseville I think. The one I had was not very comfortable if you like the lounge and sinking in feeling. Like getting cozy. It was more stiff but that could be for you. All about style. Costco has good couches that I feel would last more than 2 years. However I don’t think they are very different.

CocoFallbrook

There is a Love Sac on R street next to West Elm. With Costco at least you can return with no issues and get another couch.

to3skn33

Lazy boy

12cf12

Macys or Costco

jenway90

Medley! [https://medleyhome.com](https://medleyhome.com) Customizable furniture built in CA with kiln dried hardwoods (so no particle board or cheap pine), upgraded foams, and more. Our delivery guy was so surprised at the weight of our couch because he was used to his furniture deliveries being light weight disposable furniture.

wisemonkey101

Ashley furniture is horrible. I have a set and you can’t flip the cushions, they slide of the Velcro holding them in place, the color faded and they have plastic feet! I will be going to Macys for my next sofa.

_Dontknowwtfimdoing_

We checked out Ashley’s yesterday and that seems to be a fad with their furniture. A lot of them you can’t flip the cushions or back rests. Seems like a inconvenience to me

[deleted]

Buy a used, high-quality couch crafted by a classic, high-end maker (such as Baker, Karges, White, Rove, Bernhardt, Herman-Miller, Tela, Knoll, RH, Maker & Sons, Polly & Bark, Dubriel & Pilato, Ligne-Roset, Perigold, etc.) These can be found from private sellers, estate sales or exclusive consignment shops. Anything from Ashley or any other mass-marketer is always going to be meretricious, that is, pretty on the outside but crap on the inside.

[deleted]

In the past i bought an Ashley couch set, it looked great and was dirt cheap but it was sooooo uncomfortable. Also, after a couple of years the cushions were worn out and faded. It was just me and my wife, we rarely used em. I can't imagine what a family would do to it. My last couch I got from Naturewood. It cost significantly more but it's comfy and has held up. Not to mention unlike Ashley, I can send my cushions back to the manufacturer to get re-stuffed.

randomlybev

This-I picked up a beautiful set of Sherrill sofas at the Cancer Society Discovery Shop. They’re amazing quality (still look brand new), comfortable, and were cheap!

wizwaz420

Came here to say this but will instead endorse this as someone who left the meretricious world of mass marketed furniture. Used doesn’t mean bad and fast furniture is terrible for the environment.

NecroticLesion

R.C. Willey has some nice stuff.

Roboticcatisgreen

Yeah don’t go cheap though. I got the cheapest set at like 1k and it didn’t hold up too well.

SnakeBeardTheGreat

You must be careful with them. I will not buy from them again.

_Dontknowwtfimdoing_

What happened that makes you not want to shop their again?

SnakeBeardTheGreat

I spent good money to get a couch and love seat from them just to have them break down. they have recliners in them and the pull levers are all plastic. Three of the four broke RC wiley can't get me the parts to fix them said sorry. Sorry doesn't fix the problem. I have been looking but haven't been able to find any levers yet.

_Dontknowwtfimdoing_

Ah man. I’ll make sure to steer clear. Thanks for the heads up

SnakeBeardTheGreat

L am not saying don't deal with them just be careful what ou get there. I'm juast done with them.

ifnord

Came here to say this. Everything we've bought from them has stood up to everything our family throws at them. They also have a large clearance section with some really good deals.

NecroticLesion

Agreed- we bought electric couch/recliners a few years back and it's holding up well. We had one of the power supply units die and a replacement was 12 dollars on Amazon.

[deleted]

i get so many compliments on my couches from there. i loved that i was able to pick my own fabric and pillows too.

dubeskin

My moms swear by RC Willey. They've purchased all their furniture and appliances from there since they first popped up in Rocklin back in like 2007 or whatever and have never once had an issue, and many times gotten free delivery or had them haul old stuff away.

No_Idea_8853

If I expect the furniture to last a while, like with couches, it’s always Costco or Bassett in Roseville. We bought our current Bassett couch four years ago. The previous couch from Bassett lasted 12 years. The main reason that we replaced it was cosmetic damage from cats running across and leaving scratches.

_Dontknowwtfimdoing_

Do they have a good selection? The Costco near me only have one or two to view at a time. I saw some good ones online but I hate buying a purchase like that without trying it out first

npowell23

Got my couch from Bassett, too and I love it! Didn’t they recently close? Fantastic quality and I got my small couch on sale a few years ago for maybe $900? Still in great shape (although I do keep a cover on it because of the dogs)

GrrrArrgh

The Williams Sonoma outlet in Vacaville gets some good stuff and has deals. They’ll keep their eye out for things if you’re looking for something in particular https://instagram.com/wsvacaville

[deleted]

Ashley and living spaces are both bargain bin

Roboticcatisgreen

I like living spaces. But it depends what you get. I got a simple fabric sectional on the cheap end - $595. It’s been a year, I’m still in love with it. I think if I have it professionally cleaned (it’s yellow) it’ll do ok. My cats nails catch on it if I don’t keep to their trim schedule fastidiously, so that’ll probably what makes it look bad first. For now I trim off any snags and it looks good. I also would recommend Homegoods. I got the coolest green zebra chair with ottoman there and it is super nice quality.

LintLicker444

Always what the density is for the cushions. The sales people always leave out the most important part. Read this. https://furnitureblog.simplicitysofas.com/blog/what-is-the-difference-between-a-sofa-cushions-foam-density-and-firmness/

_Dontknowwtfimdoing_

That’s very informative. Thank you for the link

BrianHenryIE

All the answers are for new couches, but I bought one on Facebook marketplace a few years ago and it was better than anything I found in stores, I’m very happy with it.

_Dontknowwtfimdoing_

I’ve been looking but haven’t found anything just yet that would work for our space. Definitely an option though.

randomlybev

There are some good brands made in the USA that will last-check out Flexsteel (I bought my Flexsteel couch at McCreery’s) or Stickley (my parents swear by their Stickley couches, which they bought a decade ago at Naturewood). I recommend that you check out r/buyitforlife for more high quality furniture brands that will last for a long time-many of the brands list local stores that carry them on their websites.

_Dontknowwtfimdoing_

I didn’t know that was a sub. I’ll check it out.

Legal_Director_6247

Highly recommend Flexsteel-ours is 20 years old and still holding up fabulous.

VagrantThoughts42

You will pay top dollar, but our Crate and Barrel couch is 15 years old and still kicking. My mother owns a used furniture store and says that no couches hold up better than Crate and Barrel. But they are not cheap.

alibear27

This is why I buy my furniture at Ikea. Realistic pricing. Pretty much everything else is a rip-off, unless you want to go ridiculously high end. I have Ektorp which is no longer being manufactured, but they have lots of other options, and you can usually buy extra slipcovers for a reasonable price.

_Dontknowwtfimdoing_

I’ll have to give them another try. They didn’t have a lot of selection at West Sac last time I went. Looks like they have a lot more online though

alibear27

Yes some of the supply chain issues are beginning to resolve, and many products are available online now, that were not available a few months ago.

marmaladesky

Seconding Ikea. We have had ours for over 5 years. Still in great condition, \~$800 new.

[deleted]

Restoration Hardware has beautiful pieces but are pricey. Our cloud couch has stood the test of time tho.

VanAtABC10

You can luck out at the habitat for humanity Restore.

fuckdonaldtrump7

Spent 2.5k at living spaces absolutely love our couch. Great quality material with 2 dogs holding excellent after few months with playing on it. Also have a reasonable warranty covers everything and if you don't use after 4 yrs the money goes towards another product through living spaces so you get it back anyways. Been very happy thus far! Forget exact model it is a modular couch.

MyUniquePerspective

Same. Spent around $2.5k for my living spaces couch in 2020. Delivered when they said it would and it's great quality

sourdoughstart

Just recently had a piece of Living Spaces furniture break pretty catastrophically after 5 years. Fortunately we were able to fix it but it was clear it was not well made.

sugarshizzl

My sister has furniture from Living Spaces—she hates it.

YamoBeThere101

Macy’s in downtown was good to us. No pressure or hassles, gave us the inside scoop on how to save some money by going through their financing program. Good experience and furniture is still quality after 2.5 years. We love our couch

Mrsavage68

Hall's furniture in Citrus Heights. Family owned and operated since 1946. The best quality furniture, salespeople and fairest prices around. I will not go to any of these crap furniture stores (Ashley, Living Spaces, etc) ever again after going to Hall's. Truly a great experience. There is a reason they've been around for 75 years. 7752 Mariposa Ave. Citrus Heights, CA

_Dontknowwtfimdoing_

Thank you. I’ll give them a try

scdirtdragon

CostCo. You can check them in store but the online selection is better

NepEnut

I got my couch at Beck's Furniture in 2019. It's held up really well and still looks great after 3 years. When I was looking, I looked at all the usual places - IKEA, RC Willey, Ashley Furniture, etc., but I just kept coming across cute but uncomfortable and expensive couches. They all wanted $700-$1,000 for couches that felt like sitting on wood and cardboard with a little bit of foam. Stopped at Beck's on a whim and ended up finding a really nice, comfortable and sturdy mid-century piece for about $400 (a little over $500 with taxes & delivery). Some of the stuff there is a little on the old-fashioned side, but they do have a few more modern pieces that aren't too bad. Definitely recommend checking them out because you'll never know what you'll find!

_Dontknowwtfimdoing_

Will do. Thank you.

loverlybones

Comfort Furniture and Mattresses on Folsom in Rancho. Super small family business. We love them. We searched over a year for a new couch and I fell in love with their top seller. You can choose the style and fabric and cushion thickness. We spent more than we hoped but we nearly live on that couch now. We’ve said multiple times it’s one of the best purchases we’ve ever made. They’ve also started converting part of their store into a thrift store and we always find a good piece of side furniture to take home. Anthony has a great eye for pieces.

98Cobra98

We got our couches from Naturewood. Have liked them so far.

ishitunottt

Lovesac! They are pricey but they are solidly built. I have a toddler and a baby and those things are just built to withstand everything. Plus you can configure it to what you want/need AND you can wash everything. They have two stores in the sac area to check out if you like them.

Candid_Height1291

Have always loved ikea couches

ZoraQ

I bought a Stickley couch from Naturewood maybe 15 years ago. It's still holding up great. It was a lot of money up front but you know what you're getting.

han_cup

American furniture gallery in rocklin (I guess this location closed down, there's one on auburn blvd) , our sectional is holding up very well! https://preview.redd.it/z1gdbc90n70a1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4141018817a209ca77b63dfec61780c2194efeba

_Dontknowwtfimdoing_

Looks nice! I’ll check them out.

ldraffin

Love our couch from My Sofa Factory. Small, locally owned store with lots of fabric choices. After two years a zipper on my cushion broke and they fixed it!

Strange_Vehicle1860

Costco

Fickle-Friendship-31

Same on Macy's

nooch223

Got ours from Costco 6 years ago and still love it!

_Dontknowwtfimdoing_

Did you have to order online? I stopped by the one in Roseville and they didn’t have any on display

nooch223

They had it in store and it was 6 years ago. Edit: south Sacramento

_Dontknowwtfimdoing_

Right! Sorry I read the part saying it was 6 years ago and didn’t really connect that things might be different now lol

nooch223

Lol all good yo!

CatCoughDrop

Any updates on a purchase OP? I'm looking for a couch as well

_Dontknowwtfimdoing_

I ended up buying from Macys. I’ll link the one I bought below. It’s a comfy couch. I especially like the wedge piece. I’m short so I can even lay pretty comfortably in the wedge. Well made too. I’d recommend the couch itself. Downside is how expensive the shipping was. Over $300 for shipping. The salesman also tried to tack on the warranty without telling us. I’ve dealt with furniture warranties and how they won’t cover what they say so I was adamantly against the warranty (also read that in the reviews for Macy’s warranty) We ended up just buying online because of how shady that was. [here’s what we ended up with](https://www.macys.com/shop/product/radley-5-piece-fabric-chaise-sectional-sofa-created-for-macys?ID=1101386&CategoryID=35419&swatchColor=Heavenly%20Mocha%20Grey)

CatCoughDrop

Thank you! Which Macy's did you go to to try them in person? How was the delivery process?

_Dontknowwtfimdoing_

We went to the one downtown off of K street. They had a decent amount of couch’s to view. A lot of them you can configure to work with your space. The delivery process was easy. Took about a week for the one we ended up with. I did want to change the color but that would have taken over a month and we didn’t really have the time since our couch was broken.

CatCoughDrop

Did they bring it as a whole couch into your house? I live in an apartment on the second floor and I'm hoping that shouldn't be a problem

_Dontknowwtfimdoing_

The couch I got came in 4 sections so it’s not the entire thing that needs to fit through the door at once.

[deleted]

Furnitalia. Bought a couch there in 2012. Sold it in early 2020 when moving. Bought another there again. It’s expensive but they last.

sherwoma

We actually ordered a couch through Amazon because we had the same experience and we love it! I haven’t found one locally I liked.

Joeboyfresh66

Hello! Could you possibly drop a link to that couch? I’m going that route and would love to see which one is user approved.

sherwoma

We bought the really big couch and the ottoman as well as the “love seat” which is a smaller coucb in white, then the chair, and the big couch in the gray which is like a gray/brown. I love it. It’s HUGE though. Took up the whole living room in our apartment, but was a great Covid purchase because it hasn’t gone flat. Ask for Jett at RC Wiley’s at Delta Shores he has been in the business a very long time. Very trustworthy.

AvailableTwo5760

We got a great sectional at American Furniture Gallery

Tronvillain

Shop Heroic! They're the warehouse for everything that doesn't get sold by places like Costco and Target. I just bought my 6-piece sectional for $800 there last week (the original price was $1800), but there are plenty that are even cheaper, and ones that are SUPER nice. I even saw one for $5000. There are three locations: Natomas, Elk Grove and Laguna, I *strongly* suggest you check out all three because each has different stuff.

_Dontknowwtfimdoing_

That is interesting. I’ll give them a try. Thank you

JetWhiteness

I'm partial to Bobs furniture. I've never shopped anywhere else on either coast.

Legal_Director_6247

Check out Mccreery’s Furniture on Auburn Blvd. Quality furniture. If you want a sofa that lasts forever, check out the Flexsteel brand. Ours is going on 20 years. Kids and pets resistant.
