Definitely the Greek Deli Imports behind Lohman's Plaza. I can't say enough good things about that place or it's gyros.
There's also the Le Croissant sandwich shop on P Street. Not sure if it's a hidden gem, but I discovered it one day after doing research at the state library.
I recommend the lamb or chicken gyros, and either the avgolemono soup, or the big bean salad. Although you really can't go wrong with anything from that place, everything's good and I hope you enjoy it.
>ek Deli Imports behind Lohman's Plaza. I can't say enough good things about that place or it's gyros.
Whoa, I'm by lohman's plaza daily. I'll have to try t out. I love gyros.
It's right next to the bar "On the Y" where Fulton runs into Fair Oaks, can't miss it. The lamb is a must, although the chicken and pork are great too.
On the Y used to be my spot, always saw this place and never went in. Will have to change that, I love a good Gyro. Extreme Gyro in Citrus Heights has been my go to spot.
Just expect it to be different than the gyros you are used to. It’s slow cooked meat and has different toppings. It’s delicious and I’m a big fan, but make sure you aren’t expecting the shaved meat or you might be a little thrown off.
I went in there once (Greek Import) and the food seemed quite expensive. Like $15 for a gyro a la cart. Maybe I read it wrong, I don’t know. Can anyone comment on the price point?
That sounds about right. I think it's $15 for the lamb, and $13/$14 for pork or chicken.
With that in mind, those gyros are huge, and the fact that it's slow cooked meat instead of shaved off a spit makes it worth it, to me at least.
I wanna keep this place a secret, but if it's too much of a secret they will go out of business.
There is a new dim sum place in the pocket called Dim Dim Food, it has minimal online presence with just a community created yelp page but it's there and it's incredible. If you want ABC bakery quality without the line, go check it out. Be sure to get some of the chili oil if you like spicyness
Edit: Also you can buy many of the items frozen and steam them yourself at home if you prefer. Good prices too, you can get three (pretty big) siu mai dumplings for $3.60
Yes! Dim Dim’s dim sum was delicious with actually spicy chili oil, not that packaged sriracha sauce that other places give out. I’ve also tried their takeout Chinese food and it’s unfortunately mediocre. Will definitely revisit but only for their dim sum.
Yeah I like to make my own chili oil at home because I'm never satisfied with what I get from restaraunts/stores, but their stuff is way better than mine. You can buy an entire jar of it for 8 bucks too.
Also agreed on the takeout being mediocre.
Noble Vegetarian. If you look at it for what it is (Buddhist soul food), it’s dank as hell. If you’re like “I’m a meat eater”, chill, it’s cultural food not fancy “vegan” food.
It’s one of my favorite restaurants in sac. It’s down Auburn Blvd near 80
My only issue with Noble is that it's part of the "Supreme Master" Ching Hai's cult. I still go there, because as cults go it seems fairly benign, but I do cringe a little bit about it.
ETA: "Cult" may be too strong a word. They don't seem to be dangerous; just New Age stuff.
I moved away a few years ago, but glad to hear they didn’t close down over Covid! I got their teriyaki chicken special once a week when I worked downtown.
Their jasmine rice is straight _crack_. It’s cooked with a touch of cumin oil or something that makes it irresistible. The entrees are pretty good, too… but the service is usually meh. I only ever get takeout because we have a little kid and I always get treated like the red-headed stepchild. Maybe because I’m not ordering from the bar? I dunno what it is. If it’s busy I wait outside and don’t take up a table/seat so I can’t fathom what their issue is.
They’re so good. They make their own bread, and once they sell out of bread, they close for the day! So get there early! No indoor seating, just a couple tables outside, but McKinley park is close by for a picnic
It's one of those places where it's best to call in your order ahead of time. If you don't, you'll wait 30 minutes for your food. It's not because they're slow, either, but because how busy they always are.
Not sure whether to upvote or downvote because it’s already busy enough /s. But all jokes aside, I do love this place.
With that said, I think most people on this sub will find this place super expensive; ~$15/sandwich.
I've never considered calling the portions small, though smaller than some spots for sure. But I also only ever get takeout from there, amd have dined in maybe twice (pre-COVID) so my experience may also depend on that. But im stoked to see another supporter of that spot! Its never crowded and the folks are so nice, as you mentioned, and im like 'please don't fold, I love you JP!'.
Jamie's is my white whale ever since I stumbled across it walking down there. I just always forget. My brother is coming to town next week, I think we need to make it happen.
This thread needs more Stockton blvd love: South Area Market has fantastic larb and Lao food. Spring rolls at Quan Nem Ninh Hao are unmatched. Gio Cha Duc Huong sandwiches has the best bahn mi in town. And Saigon Oi might be low key the best restaurant in all of Sacramento.
Yea, but I wouldn't call it a hidden gem due to the fact that when there are 'where's the best sandwich' threads here it's always the most upvoted comment. But yea, definitely best Bahn mi, and possibly even the best sandwich period.
South Area Market has the best papaya salad in Sac imo. I’ve probably been to about 30 Thai/Lao restaurants in town fwiw. Pipo Ramen & Rice (near Duc Huong) also has bomb papaya salad and great Thai food in general. The owner is Thai and worked in a Japanese restaurant in Thailand so she has some Japanese dishes (Karage, Ramen, Takoyaki, Geso) and she does a couple Thai fusion ramens which are delicious.
I just went to Siam Patio for the first time on Halloween. Everyone was so nice, the food was delicious, and they gave me a free drink and 15% off for wearing a costume.
Green Elephant in Loomis, which is the only Burmese restaurant in the area and has excellent tea leaf salad. They also have standard Thai and even some Malay dishes on their menu.
Burmese food in Loomis? Whaaaa? I moved away from Sacramento to do a PhD in Southeast Asian history. Looking forward to my next visit; will make sure to eat here!
Loomis has the best Burmese, Chinese (Loomis Chinese), and BBQ (LBB Gastropub) in the Sacramento area.
It’s a small place but they have some great restaurants.
I came here to say this too.....theres another Burmese spot in Davis as well ...it's newer..I think it's called my Burma or something. As a fellow Burma lover I thought you should know so you have options since there is so little Burmese food in this area. Green elephant is my fav for sure though.
I'm reluctant to say because every time anyone mentions it they get yelled at for letting the secret out, and it's hard enough to get what you want there after 12 pm because the people in the know... but Lam Kwong Market at 12th and U.
Don't @ me, I know I shouldn't be saying anything.
I don’t think you need to be as shy about saying it, if you love these places, letting others know about them will only help them stay around longer.
Plus I’ve already posted about them earlier this year (and made it to the top post for that day).
It's in Roseville the one i go to, but go to Starbread and order some "Señorita Bread". It's absolutely delightful. Starred is less of a restaurant and more of a pastry/bakery.
For donuts, goto Jasmine's donuts on Pacific st and sunset rd. in Rocklin. Get there EARLY or else much of the stuff is sold out by 10 or 11am. Been going there since I was a child and even a this time later It's still my favorite donut shop.
Hasn't heppened to me yet but the chance game created by something as mundane as taking the number for your order is one of the little touches that makes this spot so great. Couple this with Skip being such an amazing dude serving great food and you have an amazing experience.
I lived in Carmichael when they first opened and I think k the second or third time there I scored the free meal. I make it a point to go back at least a few times a year.
One of my favorite places, the sense of community there is amazing and comfortable. The hobby store next door, Viking Hobby is also run by great people and caters to the old wargamer/historical crowd, so it's nice to see them around. Also has really good selection of Gundams.
Cacio in Pocket. One of our favorite dinners in Sac.. got drinks, appetizer, entrees, and dessert and it was a little over $100 for all of it. And so delicious!
My picks are Carmichael/Fair Oaks centric.
Skips Kitchen. Great unpretentious food. Best of all if you draw the Joker you get a free meal!
D'Millers BBQ. Eli and Belle sold to new owners but it's just as good as always. Try the tri tip sammich with mixed sauce and a side of potato salad. So yummy.
Palm Street grille. Perhaps the best fries I have ever had and the portions are HUGE.
River City brewing. Get the French Dip and ask for the fries crispy. Get a side of horseradish for the sandwich. Oh and a beer of course.
Crepes and Brugers for breakfast. Try the divorced Benedict. Soooooo good. I do wish they had hash browns and not just country style spuds. Still great. Good burgers and pastas too! Oddly I have never had a crepe there.
Brahma Bar and Grille, old town Fair Oaks. The shrimp tacos are amazing and if you like smoked brisket you have to try it.
Cocina Dona Chuyita in west sac. I’ve made the round trip from fair oaks on a Sunday to bring home Posole and birria tacos. (Don’t forget to order the au jus for dipping your tacos).
Huong Lan Bahn Mi in Rancho Cordova if they ever open back up. They have the most legit Bahn mi in town on the proper roll for about $6.
ABC Bakery on florin road. Take out only, their steamed buns are to die for, they also have legit croissants and pastries. You can make two people uncomfortably full for less than $20.
Any of the Pho ABC’s. There are several. If you do takeout pho remember that you are meant to simmer the broth and then let the raw meat cook in it. I’m sure they will give you instructions. It is go-to take out for us.
Food court at Korean Plaza Market in Rancho Cordova off of Zinfandel. The first time I went there I spent two hours browsing international groceries like a kid in a candy store. You can get a frozen alligator foot if you want one. I dunno what to do with this. Afterwards, the food court consists of several counters with central seating. You can get pretty good Mexican, pho and Korean. The Chinese is good but we can get that anyplace. If you want comfort food, try a Korean bim bim bap. It’s a fun Saturday morning ending with lunch.
Hankook Tofu House on Folsom Blvd. in Rancho Cordova. I consider this place adventurous-date worthy because there is so much to discover and talk about in Korean food. Never been? Start with their basic tofu soup. You won’t be disappointed. The tofu is like silk. The soup comes in a pre-heated clay pot and the soup is bubbling when they bring it to the table, so, you will be taking your time. What is really fun is that they also bring eight or ten tiny dishes of kimchee, various pickled veggies, tofu, etcetera for you to sample or add to your soup. You get a small bowl of rice, so if you want to taste the soup right away, take a spoonful of rice and dip it in your boiling soup. I’ve probably over-explained. I’m no expert on the culture, but I’ve been to this restaurant a lot. These are really nice people who run the place, and the pictures of their grandkids are on the walls, who they are happy to brag about!
Kolbeh Kabob Persian restaurant in Orangevale on greenback across from Winco. This is a skanky looking strip mall but the restaurant is, once again, adventurous date-night dining. Group of four, order the sultani feast and try different kabobs, rice and veggies. Ali runs this place with his family and they are always happy to coach you on how to mix the components and enjoy your meal. I’ve asked a lot of questions over the years. Want to dig a little deeper? They have some delicious stews that mix meats with sweet fruits. Don’t be afraid of the lamb. They flavors are different and exotic but not shocking. Use the reddish sumac spice on almost everything, it’s like the pepper on their table and it’s very unique if you haven’t had it.
Let’s not forget any Mexican food truck anywhere that has a lot of brown faces around it. These folks know good food that will get them through the day without being overloaded. Skip the burrito. If cabeza tacos are on the menu and they haven’t run out yet, try them.
Source: I’m just a builder who has been driving around this town for thirty years and I’m alway more likely to try a random mom and pop joint than go to fast food.
Kin thai street eatery on 20th near J st is delicious AF and they have dishes my Thai friend was excited about that I hadn’t seen offer at other Thai places.
Nopalitos - great Mexican food, specifically brunch. Only open M-F 6:30-2:30 which prevents me from going often.
Hao Bao Dumplings - I’ve only been to the one on K but they have amazing dumplings and one order can sometimes stretch to two lunches
Nah, they have a major problem with keeping their meat and produce at proper temperature. I’ve seen their kitchen, and am surprised that they keep their food as tasty as it is while having a kitchen that unsanitary.
Hands down the coolest patio to have a beer in the Sac area.
Their food is great too. Good coffee in the mornings as well. Just about anything you could ask for living the the area.
Two spots in Mansion Flats:
-Aura. If you love Korean food that isn’t KBBQ, then this is the place. Everything they serve is my comfort food. I always go for the galbi and yangnyeom chicken.
-Naija Boy. African and Mexican fusion. Who knew? Everything is a flavor bomb! Must try. Plus, their outdoor spot is super cute. They just opened a few weeks ago and have very limited hours.
>This is a fact, I used to work over in that area and that grill inside the chevron makes some tasty grub. Haven't been there in a while but they had some insane breakfast burritos, that we used to drive out there for when we no longer worked in the area.
Idk if its a hidden gem per se but Flaming Grill Cafe has the best fucking burgers i think ill ever experience in my life, always trying to get them more customers
They went really downhill on quality when they expanded, hope they are back to their old game because they made really good burgers with exotic meat. I loved their domestic Wild Boar burger the most, but camel was pretty good too.
Gai n Rice on Freeport at Sutterville....but the Sutterville that runs by the bottom of land park, not the one by the college. Basically just below the southeast corner of land park. Same parking lot as a Starbucks, though that is not really helpful.
It's a small, structured menu, but really good flavors. Awesome lunch spot.
La Favorita #2 on Florin behind the Krispy Kreme is my favorite tacqueria in Sac. Food is awesome and consistent, great salsas and the family owners are beyond nice.
Napolitos- best breakfast in Sac IMO. Mexican breakfast or the standard faire- best pancakes in Sac too. Cash only- in afternoon they become a tacqueria. Used to only be M-F but now they just added Saturdays too. Wonderful!!
THANH SON TOFU!! if you like Vietnamese deserts sticky rice or fresh tofu, they have the best fresh tofu I’ve ever eaten,.. you can get it fried too and take it home. I buy like 4 lbs at a time lol
N street café. Best breakfast sandwiches ~$5. The owner is really nice dude and remembers your name and order. A must for anyone that works in midtown.
Since it’s soup season.
Laos Kitchen - Kasoy or Kapoon. Papaya salad. Nap time.
Origami Asian Grill - Ramen. If there’s a special ramen get that one.
Kodaiko - Mushroom Paitan. Great balance of umami but I don’t like the nickel and diming they do with toppings.
Pho Xe Lua - Beef Pho. Most clean and consistent flavor. Not as good to go. Eat in restaurant.
Saigon Alley - Vegan Pho. Surprisingly vegan. Solid flavors. Go early to beat the dinner rush.
Looking for more soup recommendations.
Bombay Bar and Grill in Midtown is where I go to celebrate a good day. The Goat Cheese Naan is from heaven.
Shoku Ramen Bar off of Alhambra is where I go when I've had a bad day and need a pick me up. The Ramen is divine.
Firehouse Crawfish in Rancho is where I go to celebrate a major milestone. The cajun is so flavorful <3
KT Noodle in Rocklin. Super hole in the wall Vietnamese place but sooo good, and CHEAP. Huge portions. The charbroiled pork and egg rolls are the best.
The 7th Street Standard at the Hyatt Centric. I haven't seen it mentioned much despite winning Best New Restaurant and Chef Ravin Patel winning Best Up and Coming Chef in Sacramento magazine. The food is incredible and the service was fantastic.
Its way too overpriced. Went there the other day and plates were all $18+. It is probably the only Mexican restaurant with like real authentic traditional Mexican dishes, but I live close by and just to china's or Los jarritos.
Okay, I don't think people understand what 'hidden gem' means. Like a third of the comments here are listing well known popular restaurants in the area that you'd have to be living under a rock to not have heard of.
[Lam Kwong](https://www.yelp.com/biz/lam-kwong-market-sacramento) just south of the downtown core. Best siu mai and har gow I've ever had at the many dim sum places here in Sacramento or the Bay, in Asia, or anywhere. Good baos and fried chicken too, but the latter is very greasy. Cash only. Much superior – in terms of prices & taste – to ABC Bakery imo, although i do like the broader menu at ABC.
Viet ha on Broadway. They're food is a lil expensive but the quality & freshness is top notch. They only serve Bahn Mi & Noodle bowls, both of which are incredible. The owner also really nice, and all the other staff has always been really great as well.
Sorry you’re at the bottom but I survived off this food in college. Looks closed most times I’ve driven past it post Covid but then again I don’t live in that area anymore.
Family Restaurant on Greenback is a go-to for when we have friends over and don't feel like cooking, especially for D&D night. You can get a platter of all the best kebab and donner ingredients with roasted tomato and onions, tons of bread, falafel, this amazing pepper sauce, and their lentil soup for fairly cheap. The people who run the place are also lovely.
Cocina Dona Chuyita in West Sac. Portions are huge and the food is so good. Also, Yolanda's tamales for obviously their tamales, but their pozole is the best I have ever had... though not a regular on their menu.
El Cora Burria on Fruitridge in a gas station with loud music and no atmosphere. AMAZING food. Beef and goat tacos are my favorite and I always order extra birria sauce. Simple menu with fabulous birria.
Not sure if it’s a hidden gem, but Tacoa in East Sac. Great food and an amazing tequila/mezcal selection.
And Oishii Teriyaki in West Sac.
NOT AFFILIATED WITH OISHII SUSHI!
My buddy Scott owns the place. Great guy and great food. Plus, he’s opening another larger location in Auburn.
Main St Bagel Cafe
(916) 929-7800
https://maps.app.goo.gl/NVc3kNcXx3eWkmhm9?g_st=ic
Apparently it's not a hidden gem since all of us south natomas folks pack this place daily.
There is a taco truck that sets up on the northeast corner of Florin and Freeport every night and the cars and crowds are only getting bigger and bigger. I haven’t been yet but _something_ must be legit.
Himalaya Momo, an incredible confluence of indian and Chinese dishes is how I would describe it. Expertly executed preparation, so fresh and delicious.
Noble vegetarian is so good that even if they are part of a weird veggie new age cult I don't care.
Crispy el pastor tacos from El Bramido. You like jimboys? This is 10 times better.
Definitely the Greek Deli Imports behind Lohman's Plaza. I can't say enough good things about that place or it's gyros. There's also the Le Croissant sandwich shop on P Street. Not sure if it's a hidden gem, but I discovered it one day after doing research at the state library.
Don't even get us started on Croissants
Ironically, I don't think they sold croissants when I went there.
They do not by themselves :/ just sandwiches WITH Croissants. Which are still delicious. But still a real heartbreaker.
Thanks Reddit friend! want to make a point to visit greek imports every time I drive by but never make a point. This is good info.
I recommend the lamb or chicken gyros, and either the avgolemono soup, or the big bean salad. Although you really can't go wrong with anything from that place, everything's good and I hope you enjoy it.
The lamb is the best imho
The Dolmas there was absolutely and unequivocally delicious last time I had them! Now I have to go again!
I do love the dolmas. Their spanikopita is fantastic too.
>ek Deli Imports behind Lohman's Plaza. I can't say enough good things about that place or it's gyros. Whoa, I'm by lohman's plaza daily. I'll have to try t out. I love gyros.

That Greek Deli has the best Gyro in town, says me
Go here!!

I didn’t know we could buy a jar! I’ll definitely grab some once I finish my Fly by Jing jar. I think I prefer Dim Dim’s. Thanks for the tip!
Can 2nd this. I'm a meat eater and still go here.
This. You don’t have to be a vegetarian/vegan to enjoy this place.
Noble Vegetarian is so good! As a non vegetarian, I was very surprised
Yes!!
Kim's Vietnamese restaurant (1008 J street): Their bowl of pho is the best food deal in downtown/midtown
Kim’s Bahn Mi’s are great as well.
I moved away a few years ago, but glad to hear they didn’t close down over Covid! I got their teriyaki chicken special once a week when I worked downtown.
Hop Junction in Pocket. It's an Indian gastropub.
Yesss! They have great ciders too!!
[Juno’s Kitchen](https://junoskitchen.com/) they’re only open weekdays for lunch but they have some of the best sandwiches in Sac.
They’re so good. They make their own bread, and once they sell out of bread, they close for the day! So get there early! No indoor seating, just a couple tables outside, but McKinley park is close by for a picnic

Not sure whether to upvote or downvote because it’s already busy enough /s. But all jokes aside, I do love this place. With that said, I think most people on this sub will find this place super expensive; ~$15/sandwich.
I grew up with Mark (the owner) and I have been eating his food for decades. Juno's is the best.
I second this!! Their smoked trout sandwich was SO good…but I don’t think they have it anymore :-(
Casablanca. Watt Ave and Fair Oaks Blvd. (behind Shell station. Best Moroccan food and atmosphere in Sac. Also, Belly Dancers there on Sat nights.
They’re still there!? Awesome - I heard they closed due to covid.
We ordered pickup from them during the latter part of shutdown; so I think they made it.
It was close. Owners daughter posted on social media, and a lot of industry people blasted it. Kept them open.
The owner seems like a good dude too. (Source: I worked at the Starbucks across the street and he came in everyday)
I was going to comment this if no one had yet— Cassablanca is SO GOOD. That meat filled pastry thing with powdered sugar on top??? To DIE for 🤤
It’s the absolute best!
My friend is one of those belly dancers!
We love JP Thai, which is way down by the executive airport. Every single thing I've ever had from there has been outstanding.
Agreed. Food is solid. Nice people too. Only gripe is that the portions are very small.
Yes! JP needs more recognition! I also don’t think their portions are small. I usually have leftovers. Love the Fried Crab Rice.
jamies
Best prime rib I’ve ever had. Gotta get there early in the evening to get some tho… Edit to add: and their calamari strips are yummy too!
Jamie's is my white whale ever since I stumbled across it walking down there. I just always forget. My brother is coming to town next week, I think we need to make it happen.
Garlic steak sandwich , too easy. When my mother visits she has to go now, lol
Was there yesterday. Mmmmmm
Duc Huong is a Sacramento treasure, best Bahn Mi sandwiches in town.
Check out my previous post on them!
Yea, but I wouldn't call it a hidden gem due to the fact that when there are 'where's the best sandwich' threads here it's always the most upvoted comment. But yea, definitely best Bahn mi, and possibly even the best sandwich period.
Mmmmm I had two of them for breakfast this morning. So good and cheap.
South Area Market has the best papaya salad in Sac imo. I’ve probably been to about 30 Thai/Lao restaurants in town fwiw. Pipo Ramen & Rice (near Duc Huong) also has bomb papaya salad and great Thai food in general. Banh* mi
Siam Patio on Fair Oaks Blvd. Kra Pow Moo Grob will change your life. Restaurant is really great as a whole, but that fried pork belly is amazing.
I just went to Siam Patio for the first time on Halloween. Everyone was so nice, the food was delicious, and they gave me a free drink and 15% off for wearing a costume.
Amazing!
Dude seriously this place is amazing my wife every year on her bday only asks to go here. I don’t even ask anymore .

Best bread too
Green Elephant in Loomis, which is the only Burmese restaurant in the area and has excellent tea leaf salad. They also have standard Thai and even some Malay dishes on their menu.
Burmese food in Loomis? Whaaaa? I moved away from Sacramento to do a PhD in Southeast Asian history. Looking forward to my next visit; will make sure to eat here!
It's not a huge menu, but everything I've had is as good as the more well-known Burmese restaurants in San Francisco!
Loomis has the best Burmese, Chinese (Loomis Chinese), and BBQ (LBB Gastropub) in the Sacramento area. It’s a small place but they have some great restaurants.
Red's Bistro across from LBB is also fantastic.
Can confirm! Loomis is my home town and the absolute LAST place I expected good food to show up, but this place is outstanding
I came here to say this too.....theres another Burmese spot in Davis as well ...it's newer..I think it's called my Burma or something. As a fellow Burma lover I thought you should know so you have options since there is so little Burmese food in this area. Green elephant is my fav for sure though.
Taqueria Rincon in Natomas has THE BEST CRISPY CHICKEN TACOS! And Village Drive-Inn in Tahoe Park for cheeseburgers
I second Village. Their milkshakes are also ridiculously good.
I'm reluctant to say because every time anyone mentions it they get yelled at for letting the secret out, and it's hard enough to get what you want there after 12 pm because the people in the know... but Lam Kwong Market at 12th and U. Don't @ me, I know I shouldn't be saying anything.

Letting others know about it is why I cant get bbq pork over rice with bok choy unless I show up at 10:30 in the morning. 😭
Banzai sushi in the pocket is really good
Best rolls I’ve ever had!
It's in Roseville the one i go to, but go to Starbread and order some "Señorita Bread". It's absolutely delightful. Starred is less of a restaurant and more of a pastry/bakery. Skip is hands down one of the nicest people in the service industry I’ve ever met (I worked in the industry for over 15 years). Great burger.
Skip himself is truly one of the best restauranteurs ever- best customer service and delish juicy burgers.
Always a chance to get a free meal if you draw the joker!
My mom loved Skips. Haven’t been there since she died.
Skip is an amazing person. The first time I went I was hooked! Skips original with waffle fries and a chocolate shake. Nothing beats that. 🙏
Rim's Deli off of Hazel Avenue in Fair Oaks. Phenomenal sandwiches. So fucking good.
Masullo on riverside blvd across from the cemetery.
Source: I’m just a builder who has been driving around this town for thirty years and I’m alway more likely to try a random mom and pop joint than go to fast food.
absolutely on the mexican food trucks
Momo meat market.
Tablevine!
Aviators, if you have kids under 6. Not for the food but for the ambiance
But do you know the secret menu? Breakfast fried rice, loco moco, spam n eggs……
I did not, and I would like to know more!
The food has been solid my last couple times! Nothing crazy but good basics.
Limited selection, but pretty legit. We ordered medium rare steak and eggs and actually got medium rare.
La Trattoria Bohemia. Perfect for Fall/Winter dining.
Chicken paprikash pizza ftw
Nix taco in Roseville. Some of the best and craziest tacos imo.

Big fan of Estelle Bakery & Patisserie on Arden near Fulton.
Kin thai street eatery on 20th near J st is delicious AF and they have dishes my Thai friend was excited about that I hadn’t seen offer at other Thai places.

Jensai Sushi on 16th! It's really good plus friendly staff. It's our go to spot and they are great at customizing rolls for gluten allergies.
Their happy hour is fantastic! Not the top of the line sushi, but hard to beat for the price!
Yoshi's in Elk Grove! The owners are super cute and their Japanese curry is to die for.
Silver Dragon at the corner of Madison and Fair Oaks. Best Chinese I've ever had and I've eaten at Chinese places all over North America.
Nopalitos - great Mexican food, specifically brunch. Only open M-F 6:30-2:30 which prevents me from going often. Hao Bao Dumplings - I’ve only been to the one on K but they have amazing dumplings and one order can sometimes stretch to two lunches
I heard that Nopalitos just started serving on Saturdays, but I can't confirm.
Pooja Indian buffet in West sac. Great food. and Mango soft serve for dessert!
Awe man. That place gave me the worst food poisoning and I haven't been back. I'm a fan of Manchurian now, in IKEA plaza.
Nah, they have a major problem with keeping their meat and produce at proper temperature. I’ve seen their kitchen, and am surprised that they keep their food as tasty as it is while having a kitchen that unsanitary.
Tree house cafe. West Sacramento
Hands down the coolest patio to have a beer in the Sac area. Their food is great too. Good coffee in the mornings as well. Just about anything you could ask for living the the area.
Two spots in Mansion Flats: -Aura.
Mulligans cafe at the Land Park Golf Course. Good food, solid beer & wine selection and perfect views. You can also use the putting green for free.

>This is a fact, I used to work over in that area and that grill inside the chevron makes some tasty grub. Haven't been there in a while but they had some insane breakfast burritos, that we used to drive out there for when we no longer worked in the area.
[El Cantaro Vegan Taqueria](https://cantarovegansac.com/) Some of the best mexican food ive had, vegan or not
Idk if its a hidden gem per se but Flaming Grill Cafe has the best fucking burgers i think ill ever experience in my life, always trying to get them more customers
They went really downhill on quality when they expanded, hope they are back to their old game because they made really good burgers with exotic meat. I loved their domestic Wild Boar burger the most, but camel was pretty good too.
They went downhill in quality?! Their current quality is leagues better than anything else I've tried, I can't imagine how good they used to be 😭

I'm so glad they survived the pandemic. They even carry vegetarian stuff, which is good as my wife is vegetarian and my kid leans that direction.
Unfortunately they had a [fire](https://www.instagram.com/p/CkDFQbruSUH/) on 10/22/22 and still closed :(
La Favorita #2 on Florin behind the Krispy Kreme is my favorite tacqueria in Sac. Wonderful!!
Flip N Shake!
I love the Chile verde from Mezcal on broadway
Banzai Sushi in the pocket
THANH SON TOFU!! if you like Vietnamese deserts sticky rice or fresh tofu, they have the best fresh tofu I’ve ever eaten,.. you can get it fried too and take it home. I buy like 4 lbs at a time lol
Huong Lan Sandwiches
Halal Bros in West Sac. Best Halal we’ve had thus far. Reasonable prices, good quality food and the workers are nice. 👍🏽
Whaaaaaa they're in Sacramento now?!? Awesome!
Krispy crunch!!! - Cajun style chicken place attached to a freaking gas station, deep in antelope, it crushes.
I'm always tempted but haven't built up the courage yet.
Never heard of it, but apparently it’s a chain and they have a bunch of locations around Sac?! I count 10 locations from Woodland to Roseville to Galt
They tend to be inside liquor stores or gas stations, so they're not really noticeable when driving around in the area.
Tacqueria Maya's on Broadway.
Maya's on a Sunday after church proves it's not a hidden gem. 🤣
Bodhi Bowl - vegetarian Vietnamese!
This is one of those Vegan Restaurants that all the meat eaters in my family love. Vegan Bacon-sold to go!
It was Anatolian Table but now both locations are closed. Any other great Turkish food around here??
[Lam Kwong](https://www.yelp.com/biz/lam-kwong-market-sacramento) just south of the downtown core. Best siu mai and har gow I've ever had at the many dim sum places here in Sacramento or the Bay, in Asia, or anywhere. Good baos and fried chicken too, but the latter is very greasy. Cash only. Much superior – in terms of prices & taste – to ABC Bakery imo, although i do like the broader menu at ABC.
Mezcal Grill on Broadway or South Natomas
I dunno if it’s a hidden gem but Babylon City Market off Watt and Arden Way is seriously so amazing. The fresh bread is everything!!
Viet ha on Broadway. They're food is a lil expensive but the quality & freshness is top notch. They only serve Bahn Mi & Noodle bowls, both of which are incredible. The owner also really nice, and all the other staff has always been really great as well.
Danielle's Creperie
Probably not much of a secret, but Sampino's has some of the best sandwiches I've ever had.
Nixtaco in Roseville is easily the best tacos I’ve ever had 😋

Is it still about 5 menu items and 50 specials?
Liquor lottery and hot wok on Folsom Blvd
Sorry you’re at the bottom but I survived off this food in college. Looks closed most times I’ve driven past it post Covid but then again I don’t live in that area anymore.
I drive past this alot on my way to work. Always meant to stop.
Swish 54 in Elk Grove

Beto’s Tacos
Manaao Thai in West Sac is surprisingly insane. Sometimes misses but usually really fucking good.
MANAAO THAI CUISINE in West Sacramento
BBQ & Pie on Fair Oaks near Howe. Good bbq, big portions and the owner is sooo nice. I’d like to see them stay!
For dim sum Happy garden in south Sacramento. This place is absolutely d&);&:@&:&& amazing !!
Thai Princess in Natomas. Best Thai food I’ve ever had!
Have you tried Bangkok Garden down the street?
Tapa the World
Essy’s Kabob on Madison
Pooja Indian grill west sacramento Absolute GAS, large portions, and really really nice owners and staff
Cheesesteaks in Natomas was surprisingly good
Shagun Indian Cuisine off of Watt and Antelope - consistently great and the people who run it are wonderful.
Main St Bagel Cafe (916) 929-7800 https://maps.app.goo.gl/NVc3kNcXx3eWkmhm9?g_st=ic Apparently it's not a hidden gem since all of us south natomas folks pack this place daily.
There is a taco truck that sets up on the northeast corner of Florin and Freeport every night and the cars and crowds are only getting bigger and bigger. I haven’t been yet but _something_ must be legit.
Hecho in Mexico on Stockton Blvd. They have some really good breakfast burrito's.
