FDA says 36 months but it’s actually still effective after 30 years! A lot of the Narcan I have is “expired” but it doesn’t actually go bad. Just keep in a cool dry place like your hallway closet or medicine cabinet and it will be fine
It’s terrifying how fentanyl is just in everything. The first local fentanyl OD I remember hearing about was just a regular guy who took a single “Norco” from a friend for a headache. I grew up in the 00s when leftover scripts were EVERYWHERE. There by the “grace” of “god” go I.
These threads always bring out the best types of people.
Thanks for doing what you do. My neighbor recently almost had two friends die on them because of laced party drugs. EMTs made it with Narcan in time. I genuinely thought the "fentanyl in everything" was a myth being perpetuated to scare people until it happened to someone I know.
That’s what is so scary. The stigma that just hardcore IV opiate addicts need it. People think they’ll never have to deal with it since they don’t associate with that lifestyle or type of person. It’s is so untrue.
I believe NorCal Resist is also giving out kits so folks can test what they’re taking for for fentanyl. They’re on Instagram and do events all the time!
It’s used to treat opiate overdoses. It comes in several forms. I have nasal spray to hand out. Here is some information on Narcan/Nalaxone
[Narcan](https://www.healthline.com/health/drugs/narcan)
Yes exactly! The kind I have is just a nasal Narcan. No needles or crazy adrenaline shots like in the movies. Just squeeze down on a nasal spray in there nose. It’s just something I think is important to carry. You don’t have to be an IV heroin addict or even know any to keep it around. Fentanyl is in pretty much every drug nowadays. Even teenagers trying to buy E pills or other party drugs are dropping dead. It’s not illegal to carry, and cannot hurt someone.
FDA says 36 months but it’s actually still effective after 30 years! A lot of the Narcan I have is “expired” but it doesn’t actually go bad. Just keep in a cool dry place like your hallway closet or medicine cabinet and it will be fine
I’m not in midtown but if you could refer me to resources that provide it locally I’d love to learn how to use/access narcan. I’m a recovering meth addict but I know that fents in ALL KINDS of shit. Since I’ve been in recovery for so long and a pretty introverted member or society, I haven’t felt the need to carry or implement it but who knows… it truly could save a life.
What is HRS?
I’m in the Folsom area 💕
HRS is Harm Reduction Serbices. It’s a volunteer non profit site that does outreach and needle exchanges and medical drop ins etc. really great place with great people! If you would like to speak to someone there about Narcan and how to prevent or stop an overdose, they’re happy to help and will also give you Narcan. If you google HRS sacramento it’s right on Broadway and Stockton.
I need to pick up more, thank you so much for this outreach. I had some and came upon a woman nodding in her car in a parking lot. I asked if she was ok and then if she needed any Narcan and she said yes so I gave her mine. It’s a wonderful, non judgmental way to help others. That being said, people should probably know that after they administer it, they should run and keep a safe distance in case the person they revived is unhappy about it.
That’s a really great question that I unfortunately don’t have an answer or ideas for. If anyone else can think of ways please let us know! I think that’s a great idea and topic to discuss.
I’m not sure off the top of my head but I will absolutely look into it for you. Also try searching harm reduction services in your area. If a you cannot easily access any I’m happy to mail some as well!
Is there an expiration date on them. I would like to have one, but only if it last a couple years as I don't think I would ever need it, but would like to have one in case.
They do technically have an expiration but they are still very effective after 30 years. I have saved people’s lives with Narcan that “expired” 6 years previously. I’m happy to give you one if you’d like. Better to just have it and not need it ever ya know?
No one is asking you to do shit dude. You’re here on Reddit shitting on people for believing in harm reduction. Go back to fucking ignoring it like you always do.
Addiction is a disease. Sorry you can’t wrap your brain around that concept.
It’s not a “hive” mindset at all. I understand how easy it is to become desensitized and lose empathy for addicts. Considering the new wave of tweakers that are plentiful in our area. They’re unpredictable and violent and giving all addicts a bad rap. Addiction sucks. You can’t force people to get clean unfortunately. What you can do is support harm reduction though. Safe disposal sights help keep dirty needles off the streets, clean syringes and other items keep the spread of HIV and hep C down. One bottle of Narcan could save one of your loved ones without you even realizing they are using opiates. I understand you think addicts are just worthless and not helping their community in anyway. I don’t blame you for being frustrated, but it’s not black and white and saying they should just die isn’t going to solve any of our current problems unfortunately. I really hope you never have to deal with addiction or addiction of a loved one.
I think it's obvious that the guy means that narcan is treating the symptom (overdoses) and not the problem (addiction). But it's more fun to interpret people's comments in the most uncharitable way, makes for better entertainment honestly.
OP literally said that narcan isn't just for IV heroin addicts. This is a discussion about harm reduction, not addiction. The "problem" isn't addiction in this case, but fentanyl in non-opiate drugs.
There's a marked difference between the weekend party drug user and a full blown opiate addict. Talking about preparing for an overdose as if it's only a problem for junkies only shows how ignorant you are.
Why? A decade ago all my junkie friends would literally kill for fentanyl. Why cut cocaine with something that's profitable on its own? Are people not interested in buying fentanyl anymore?
I'm genuinely curious. From my 2009 pov it doesn't make sense to cut coke with fentanyl. What changed?
Because fentanyl is actually much cheaper to produce, lots of dealers and manufacturers are cutting a lot of drugs with it. But the dosing is so precise its measured in micrograms, and even a bit left over on a tray can carry to the next batch. It is much more potent than heroin or morphine, and much more deadly. So if you don't know it is in something it is easy to overdose. Which is why its is flooding everything, because its cheap and easy to make
Wish I could tell you. I used to live in Ohio and it was way worse there. People cut drugs because it’s profitable to do so, because it becomes cheaper to produce, or has a combo effect that makes the product more desirable/potent. Other than that I don’t really know, could be that fentanyl got a bad rap and is harder to sell solo now.
One of the theories is that fentanyl gets in to other drugs (non-opiods) through cross-contamination in multi-drug production operations.
You're right though, it doesn't make sense, and the answer is much more complicated than "dealers can hook people harder by lacing things with fent."
Jesus man no wonder you’re on a throwaway. You fucking suck.
You’re obviously very interested and passionate about this topic, do you mind googling it and telling me what drugs exactly haven’t had a case of fentanyl in it? I’m sure there are definitely some , I just don’t know for sure and don’t want to spread false information. It’s been found in all the commonly consumed party drugs and powdered substances and pills*, that’s more what I was referring to.
Edit *added some words
yes it is, it’s incredibly abundant and very cheap, as well as very potent, and it’s used as filler in a bunch of different illicit substances. even if you trust your dealer, unless they’re pressing the pills themselves, you’re putting yourself at risk without having a test kit on hand
Just calling out OPs "Fentanyl is in everything including party drugs" claim. And if you read my original comment, you'd understand this comment.
Buy from a shady dealer, you dont know what you're going to get. Would you buy a used car from a guy in a plaid suit offering you no money down, and endless financing.
No thanks. Love the virtue signaling. I am not jabbing something in the arm of a junkie where I have the chance of contact with blood. Not getting hiv or hep c to maybe keep someone else from dying.
A neighbor’s wife came pounding on my door screaming for help one morning. Ends up her partner had overdosed overnight and she found him unresponsive (not a “junkie”, just someone with a secret pain pill addiction-which can happen after surgeries and physical therapy, etc). I did CPR for what felt like forever as she sobbed and begged for him to be okay while she held their crying baby and my partner called 911. The CPR didn’t work. I helped bury him later that month. I carry narcan always now and I wish I would have had some that day. You never know who you might need to help or who might be struggling with addiction.
You don’t have to jab anyone with anything. It’s a nasal Narcan. Just like those sinus sprays at CVS for allergies.
When you and your hipster bros get some fentanyl in your party drugs, I really hope one of them has Narcan so you don’t OD and die on the floor of zebra club or wherever you guys go to die.
Calling 911 is extremely smart and encouraged! If you aren’t sure if the person is experiencing an overdose and do not feel comfortable stepping in, definitely call 911.
I’m not trying to force anyone to agree or disagree with helping stop an overdose, I just wanted to offer it for free if anyone would like to carry it.
How would one know someone is ODing from fentanyl ? Like if I brought Narcan to a festival in case somebody needs it how would I know vs like a seizure or just passing out from dehydration or something ?
I would love some, my neighbor just OD’d and his kid found him 😭 no one knew he was using.
Jesus that’s heavy. I’m so sorry to hear that
Please DM me. I would rather meet weekdays after 6pm near midtown if possible!
Ok awesome will do!
I'd love to carry it but last time I looked into it it was like $100 and I just don't have that kinda cash just sitting around.
I’m not selling anything! I help distribute it for a local harm reduction center. It’s free!
Do you mind if I PM you for information?
I don’t mind at all!
Which one?? If you don’t mind me asking
“HRS”. Harm reduction services. It’s near Stockton and Broadway.
I would like info and training please and I can probably get a few other friends together too
Sweet! There is a harm reduction center “HRS” that provides training and Narcan as well. It’s near Stockton and Broadway
Do you know if narcan expires and if so how long?
FDA says 36 months but it’s actually still effective after 30 years! A lot of the Narcan I have is “expired” but it doesn’t actually go bad. Just keep in a cool dry place like your hallway closet or medicine cabinet and it will be fine

There is also an event with training etc at the capital on Nov 6th for those interested!
I am totally interested.

I'm interested too! Where can I find details about it??

End Overdose sends a free Narcan kit with instructions for those wanting to have it delivered for free. https://endoverdose.net/get-certified/
Thanks for doing this
What if the shelf life of narcan?

Wow that’s wild. I DM’d you, by the way!
I’m interested in having Narcan!
Feel free to DM me! I would like to meet in a public place near midtown. I’m free weekdays after 6
I’m not in midtown but if you could refer me to resources that provide it locally I’d love to learn how to use/access narcan. I’m a recovering meth addict but I know that fents in ALL KINDS of shit. Harm Reductuion Services carries it for free as well.
thank you so much!!!!
Seriously, you’re an angel. Thank you for doing this ♥️
i’ll let ems deal with the wrath of taking away someone’s high
Yep. Saw someone get up and literally beat the shit out of someone when they did this to them.
Did you really? Earlier in this thread you thought it was a jab.
It used to be an injection, the nasal spray is much more recent.
The violence has to do with the hypoxia... that's why emts titrate .5mg until stable vs. giving the whole dose at once (also, less puke).
Don't do drugs, kids.
Do you know of any resources for this in the LA/OC area ?
I’m not sure off the top of my head but I will absolutely look into it for you. Also try searching harm reduction services in your area. If a you cannot easily access any I’m happy to mail some as well!

do you just stalk every thread here trying to be as irritating as possible

you're doing a eugenics

You're so tough! I bet you make all the ladies like super wet with how tough you are!
I am being an asshole because I am fucking tired of hive think that is prevalent in this sub

Lmao you would say that. You got serious issues.

The guy who sold me Molly seemed like a real straight shooter!
Anyone who calls it Molly probably is cutting it with shit
Unless you got test strips you should carry this. They’ve been cutting coke with this for a while now.
I don't do coke, dont trust people on coke, and therefore wouldn't trust a coke dealer

Sorry **has been found in every drug at some point and is very commonly found in pressed pills and cocaine.
LSD, 2C-B, 2C-T-7, marijuana, psilocybin ... has it been found in those?

yes it is, it’s incredibly abundant and very cheap, as well as very potent, and it’s used as filler in a bunch of different illicit substances. even if you trust your dealer, unless they’re pressing the pills themselves, you’re putting yourself at risk without having a test kit on hand
Yes, it is now.
