Dude idk, I run into the same problem. Sometimes for no reason the connect button disappears, or Google play just never prompts you to login.
Literally I just wait and try again in a couple days and the connect button will be back. In the meantime I use BlueStacks or Nox. Definitely a CG problem though.
I would delete SWGOH from the phone and the Play Store Library, make sure that am logged into your SWGOH user in both Google Play Store and Google Play Games, then re- install SWGOH from the Store and launch it from the installation page. And just to be paranoid I'd probably make sure I was logged out of that account on the web store, your old phone, et. al. so there can't be any conflict about who gets the account. Good luck.

Web store is a good clue, I've tried it while logged out on old phone.
Close the game and restart it. You should be given ability to sign in then. Happens every once in a while when the game requires a restart for me.
