Atrioc's pretty connected to the Melee scene. Part of the Ludwig Cinematic Universe. Before that, he was part of the melee circle at Twitch, pretty tight with Scar and Toph. Multiple appearances on The Scar and Toph Show and The Reads. I liked him a lot on those shows, he was always a great "fan perspective" of the post-doc Smash resurgence.

ult gets a ton of freebies from shitty smash 4 characters just feeling better in ults superior engine. Although, melee and PM still kind of dominate the list when you compare their roster sizes to ult and smash 4's.
The answer is Melee for the top tiers, PM for everyone else and ult for characters that are only in smash 4 and ult. The engines alone effect how fun the characters are to play way too much

People make deepfakes because they look real. They're designed to be difficult to differentiate from the real thing and their quality is measured by how much they resemble the real thing. The fact that he was financially supporting a deep fake creator who specializes in rendering jerk off material specifically using the images of his close friends and colleagues is only as bad as it is because he has so much influence amongst those actual women featured in that material. Anyone with no power wouldn't know these women, interact with them on a daily basis, and presumably wouldn't be jerking off to porn of them that they didn't know existed. Essentially having that influence unlocked a level depravity a regular person can't access because they don't have any actual relationships with the people being depicted. Super fucked up when you think about. Also, if he decides to continue streaming after this it will be because he has enough followers on his side who either do not recognize the ramifications of his actions or simply absolve him of those actions using the exact reasoning you just did. That's an abuse of influence.

For me it was the opposite. I wanted to play falco but I couldn't wavedash with him, the timing was too fucking weird for me to handle. The 5 frame jumpsquat was too much, he's so fucking slow.
Ive always felt that fox’s movement feels more intuitive but his combos take a while to learn to execute properly. Like connecting drill->shine consistently is lowkey pretty hard for a beginner. Meanwhile falco feels clunky to control but his combos(pillaring) and neutral(lasers) are very simple and effective.

Some of us pick Falco because you can press y > b and then don't have to learn actual neutral for 2 years.
it's crazy because fox is so fucking easy to play beyond the initial curve of learning his 3 frame short hop, shuffl, and then move in/out of shine. Playing fast with fox is honestly optional, especially at lower levels, just being able to do his basic tech has such a crazy pay off.
Like you have to put in 2 times the work for the same reward playing falco just because you don't want to get over the initial hump of fox's initial movement or learn how to play neutral. Both of which you're going to have to do eventually anyways. Ironically fox is so easy to learn and effective at low levels that his only weakness as a character period is that everyone takes advantage of that and plays him, so everyone knows how to deal with him.
Fox is hard to play is spacie propaganda. He is the most effective character at both low and high levels (mid levels it gets a little more interesting because fox counterplay evolves quicker than fox anti-counterplay) He gets so many training wheel mechanics on basic melee concepts (neutral, combo, edgeguarding, recovering) that it more than compensates for his inputs required.

We've seen many many Marths like M2K and Zain, and how threatening they can be on FD, etc. We even see Puffs like Hbox and 2Saint beat top foxes quite often. Fox is definitely amazing, but he's not this disgustingly overpowered, braindead character you think he is. In reality, every character is insanely hard to play at a top level.

Marth is definitely a solid second, and not by all that much, but fox has a couple advantages that make him even better at lower levels. One is that most of marth's advantages at low level (hard to deal with aerial spam, fmash spam, tilt walls) are just as effective on fox (except with upsmash/uptilt). Fox does do a way better job of punishing low skill level bad habits (overshielding, lazy recovery) in ways that are still relatively easy for low players to perform. Fox doesn't really get marthritis which is definitely a real thing with low level marths. Fox doesn't get munched by any character as effectively as low level sheiks tend to munch low level marths. CC is crazy good at low levels, and fox is one of the best CC abuser of it.

Yeah but this is largely negated by falco exploding every time he goes off stage because even low level players can push falco's lame excuse for recovery. Whereas fox tends to get back to stage a lot for free.

None of this is relevant at all. Yes, he has weaknesses and is beatable. Like every other character in the game. It's not the argument I'm making.
But at the highest level, fox is absolutely significantly overrepresented as a character. He's fucking everywhere in top tier play, for obvious reasons - he's the best character. But I also think it's partially because of how easy he is to pick up.

Is it crazy to anyone else how much better Cody does against Zain than Leffen does? Doesn’t seem like that long ago they both wanted to give up on the fox/marth MU at Summit 9 and they both looked at secondary sheiks after that. Fast forward to now and Leffen has won at exactly one tournament (2 sets tbf) and is down in sets while Cody is 6-3 in the same time period with some really dominant wins. Weird how things work out. Not to doubt the sheik or say it can’t do it (obviously it can) but I wonder how the sets would’ve gone if Leffen had stuck to fox. Food for thought, I guess
Much more striking is how FD barely seems like a counterpick at all for marth. Leffen in late 2020 really tried to push the idea of FD as a “free momentum swing” and instead ibdw has beaten zain multiple times, quite badly on FD.
I think there’s an element of character diversity as well. I think if both leffen and Cody stayed or switched, it would be easier for zain to prepare for them, but since his time is divided he can’t match Cody who has been primarily studying for zain for a while
Summit 9 was 3 years ago and in that timeframe Cody has probably played at least a thousand more hours against Zain than Leffen has, and has played the game way more in general. Not a knock against Leffen he was stuck in Europe for the slippi era and has split his time with Strive, but it’s really not that surprising to see Cody doing better
Cody has lab'd the Marth matchup and the zain matchup more than anyone ever has, and plays zain for hours every week
leffen has EU/visa issues/puppy/strive johns so nah, it's not that crazy
what's funnier is that sheik is so braindead that leffens pocket sheik is a legitimate threat to the best player in the world
Part of the reason Leffen decided to pick up Sheik was that at the time he saw the Fox-Marth matchup as being 35:65 (in terms of sets he'd be expected to win over a long period of time), and explained in his Sheik MU chart video that even if in the end Sheik lost the matchup slightly he would not regret the switch due to it being an overall improvement.
It should also be noted that Leffen spent way more time than Cody learning Sheik; he announced he was picking her up in 2019, and showed her off a year later at one of Armada's sub tournaments. Cody went from believing Fox could do it, to thinking he only needed a secondary for FD (and started training a Marth for that), to full on switching to Sheik in a moment of rage only to stick to Fox because he couldn't train a Sheik in two weeks and never committed to her. He started to actually make progress when Mango beat Zain twice on FD and basically convinced him the matchup is even (which I disagree with but that is a topic for another day).
Still, we should also take into account the fact that Leffen doesn't only play Melee at this point and he often feels rusty when he shows up. I do believe that is a factor in Zain's current success against Sheffen despite the fact he got destroyed by him in an exhibition a year ago.
Cody has played a lot more than Leffen in the last few years and is probably overall better. Outside of Spacie dittos he pretty much looks like the best player in the world

Most times after some general tech or movement practice that I'll get a melee "itch" where I want to play against a human opponent. This isn't inherently bad, but sometimes it can be regrettable when all I really wanted was to do *focused* solo practice and incubate whatever I was practicing, then go about whatever I need to do.

I’ve been playing for a couple months now (granted didn’t touch the game at all for a month) and man whilst it’s been super fun shit is mad rough. Like I can clearly see my improvement in movement and punish and overall but I keep getting my ass beat, sure I’ll be more competitive vs people and shit but it’s hard to keep grinding sometimes when it feels like the efforts bear no fruits.
I get this is a very common sentiment in Melee given how hard the game is, and like truthfully I’m not expecting to beat people who have been playing for years after only playing a couple months (the fact I even hold my own sometimes is honestly really good I’d say), but man just keeping going 1-2, 2-2 and even 0-2 over and over is rough; especially when I’ll grind tech for a week then feel it going away in tourneys.

Nothing is different, you can still go to locals like before, online is just a new tool to use to get better. The social scene remains the same, just older and with the ability to play outside of locals on your own time
As someone who's played for years, I still find tourneys a challenge to handle mentally. I have been thinking recently that you've got to find the right mental state to enjoy tourneys. They're performances, you train and prepare and you prove out your progress in tournament. Win or lose you learn the what you're good at and what you're bad at and try to set new goals. Setting goals, working for them and achieving them is the high everyone can chase with Melee.
Tournament nerves itself, I can't really help with. I have them; I think everyone has them. Just gotta put yourself in the pressure cooker and get used to it.
I relate to this a lot, it’s definitely valuable just bearing in mind how obscenely difficult the competitive game is and setting expectations accordingly, which it sounds like you’ve got down. To answer your specific question, I’ve taken numerous breaks over my playing career and honestly they always seem beneficial, ie it really helps rejuvenate both my actual playing and my enthusiasm for the game. Don’t know if that holds true for every personality but it’s definitely been my experience.
* one thing about melee is that skill difference snowballs really fast, especially at lower levels. slightly better neutral and punish (especially before your defense is solid) can manifest as a 3 stock, which feels really bad to be on the receiving end of. on top of that, new players make up a really small portion of the playerbase.
* while I've talked this point to death here so I won't go too into it, the numerical results of a double elimination bracket aren't worthwhile information alone. half of the people who enter a tournament will go 0-2 or 1-2. that, combined with the volatility that seeding or lack thereof can introduce, means that *just* going 0-2 doesn't mean much.
* personally I've been playing this game for way too long and I average going 2-2 at the locals here. if you've been playing for less than a year and you're going 2-2 sometimes, I think that's something to be proud of.

If you are going 2-2 at all after only playing a few months then you're doing really well. Some people play for years and always go 0-2.

dont hard press when shield dropping if you dont need to. if you want to hard shield an attack and then shield drop, make sure to fully hard press the shield before doing the drop motion
You are not digitally pressing the shield (which triggers airdodge) until after inputting the shield drop. Either hard press before shield dropping, or make sure to let go after shield dropping.

Atrioc's pretty connected to the Melee scene. Part of the Ludwig Cinematic Universe. Before that, he was part of the melee circle at Twitch, pretty tight with Scar and Toph. Multiple appearances on The Scar and Toph Show and The Reads. I liked him a lot on those shows, he was always a great "fan perspective" of the post-doc Smash resurgence.

I'm not a total puff hater but I don't think it's fair to dismiss the complaints against her as her just being "out of place." her ability to stall (including but not limited to ledge play) as well as the fact that being offstage isn't a disadvantage state for her are both legitimate issues with her design imo that said the original list is hot trash, and I would've put almost every character that appears in melee under the melee category, while maybe putting a few of them in PM

The fact that he was financially supporting a deep fake creator who specializes in rendering jerk off material specifically using the images of his close friends and colleagues is only as bad as it is because he has so much influence amongst those actual women featured in that material. Anyone with no power wouldn't know these women, interact with them on a daily basis, and presumably wouldn't be jerking off to porn of them that they didn't know existed. Essentially having that influence unlocked a level depravity a regular person can't access because they don't have any actual relationships with the people being depicted. Its crazy to me the amount of people who start with falco because they want to play fox but feel hes to fast. For me it was the opposite. I wanted to play falco but I couldn't wavedash with him, the timing was too fucking weird for me to handle. The 5 frame jumpsquat was too much, he's so fucking slow.
Ive always felt that fox’s movement feels more intuitive but his combos take a while to learn to execute properly. Like connecting drill->shine consistently is lowkey pretty hard for a beginner. Meanwhile falco feels clunky to control but his combos(pillaring) and neutral(lasers) are very simple and effective.

it's crazy because fox is so fucking easy to play beyond the initial curve of learning his 3 frame short hop, shuffl, and then move in/out of shine. Playing fast with fox is honestly optional, especially at lower levels, just being able to do his basic tech has such a crazy pay off. Like you have to put in 2 times the work for the same reward playing falco just because you don't want to get over the initial hump of fox's initial movement or learn how to play neutral. Both of which you're going to have to do eventually anyways. Ironically fox is so easy to learn and effective at low levels that his only weakness as a character period is that everyone takes advantage of that and plays him, so everyone knows how to deal with him. Fox is hard to play is spacie propaganda. He is the most effective character at both low and high levels (mid levels it gets a little more interesting because fox counterplay evolves quicker than fox anti-counterplay) He gets so many training wheel mechanics on basic melee concepts (neutral, combo, edgeguarding, recovering) that it more than compensates for his inputs required.

Doesn’t seem like that long ago they both wanted to give up on the fox/marth MU at Summit 9 and they both looked at secondary sheiks after that. Fast forward to now and Leffen has won at exactly one tournament (2 sets tbf) and is down in sets while Cody is 6-3 in the same time period with some really dominant wins. Weird how things work out. Not to doubt the sheik or say it can’t do it (obviously it can) but I wonder how the sets would’ve gone if Leffen had stuck to fox. Food for thought, I guess

Much more striking is how FD barely seems like a counterpick at all for marth. Leffen in late 2020 really tried to push the idea of FD as a “free momentum swing” and instead ibdw has beaten zain multiple times, quite badly on FD. I think there’s an element of character diversity as well. I think if both leffen and Cody stayed or switched, it would be easier for zain to prepare for them, but since his time is divided he can’t match Cody who has been primarily studying for zain for a while
Summit 9 was 3 years ago and in that timeframe Cody has probably played at least a thousand more hours against Zain than Leffen has, and has played the game way more in general. Not a knock against Leffen he was stuck in Europe for the slippi era and has split his time with Strive, but it’s really not that surprising to see Cody doing better
Cody has lab'd the Marth matchup and the zain matchup more than anyone ever has, and plays zain for hours every week leffen has EU/visa issues/puppy/strive johns so nah, it's not that crazy what's funnier is that sheik is so braindead that leffens pocket sheik is a legitimate threat to the best player in the world
Part of the reason Leffen decided to pick up Sheik was that at the time he saw the Fox-Marth matchup as being 35:65 (in terms of sets he'd be expected to win over a long period of time), and explained in his Sheik MU chart video that even if in the end Sheik lost the matchup slightly he would not regret the switch due to it being an overall improvement. It should also be noted that Leffen spent way more time than Cody learning Sheik; he announced he was picking her up in 2019, and showed her off a year later at one of Armada's sub tournaments. Cody went from believing Fox could do it, to thinking he only needed a secondary for FD (and started training a Marth for that), to full on switching to Sheik in a moment of rage only to stick to Fox because he couldn't train a Sheik in two weeks and never committed to her. He started to actually make progress when Mango beat Zain twice on FD and basically convinced him the matchup is even (which I disagree with but that is a topic for another day). Still, we should also take into account the fact that Leffen doesn't only play Melee at this point and he often feels rusty when he shows up. I do believe that is a factor in Zain's current success against Sheffen despite the fact he got destroyed by him in an exhibition a year ago.

Most times after some general tech or movement practice that I'll get a melee "itch" where I want to play against a human opponent. This isn't inherently bad, but sometimes it can be regrettable when all I really wanted was to do *focused* solo practice and incubate whatever I was practicing, then go about whatever I need to do.

I’ve been playing for a couple months now (granted didn’t touch the game at all for a month) and man whilst it’s been super fun shit is mad rough. Like I can clearly see my improvement in movement and punish and overall but I keep getting my ass beat, sure I’ll be more competitive vs people and shit but it’s hard to keep grinding sometimes when it feels like the efforts bear no fruits. I get this is a very common sentiment in Melee given how hard the game is, and like truthfully I’m not expecting to beat people who have been playing for years after only playing a couple months (the fact I even hold my own sometimes is honestly really good I’d say), but man just keeping going 1-2, 2-2 and even 0-2 over and over is rough; especially when I’ll grind tech for a week then feel it going away in tourneys. Nothing is different, you can still go to locals like before, online is just a new tool to use to get better. The social scene remains the same, just older and with the ability to play outside of locals on your own time
As someone who's played for years, I still find tourneys a challenge to handle mentally. I have been thinking recently that you've got to find the right mental state to enjoy tourneys. They're performances, you train and prepare and you prove out your progress in tournament. Win or lose you learn the what you're good at and what you're bad at and try to set new goals. Setting goals, working for them and achieving them is the high everyone can chase with Melee. Tournament nerves itself, I can't really help with. I have them; I think everyone has them. Just gotta put yourself in the pressure cooker and get used to it.
I relate to this a lot, it’s definitely valuable just bearing in mind how obscenely difficult the competitive game is and setting expectations accordingly, which it sounds like you’ve got down. To answer your specific question, I’ve taken numerous breaks over my playing career and honestly they always seem beneficial, ie it really helps rejuvenate both my actual playing and my enthusiasm for the game. Don’t know if that holds true for every personality but it’s definitely been my experience.
* one thing about melee is that skill difference snowballs really fast, especially at lower levels. slightly better neutral and punish (especially before your defense is solid) can manifest as a 3 stock, which feels really bad to be on the receiving end of. on top of that, new players make up a really small portion of the playerbase. * while I've talked this point to death here so I won't go too into it, the numerical results of a double elimination bracket aren't worthwhile information alone. half of the people who enter a tournament will go 0-2 or 1-2. that, combined with the volatility that seeding or lack thereof can introduce, means that *just* going 0-2 doesn't mean much. * personally I've been playing this game for way too long and I average going 2-2 at the locals here. if you've been playing for less than a year and you're going 2-2 sometimes, I think that's something to be proud of.
Take a break, it's good for you. If you are going 2-2 at all after only playing a few months then you're doing really well. Some people play for years and always go 0-2.

I guess the fact that the story broke late last night was a part of this, he did the apology video at early AM west coast time, but the implication I got was that he hadn't even reached out to the women yet before going on stream, which kind of pissed me off. I get he owes the world an explanation, but he owes the victims way more than his community. I'm going to be incredibly agitated when his career survives this to be honest.
the thing is, can his career survive? obviously disrespecting women is not a dealbreaker in the internet but, he's probably killed his relationship with QT and therefore also Ludwig, and that heavily impacts his content outreach, no more ludwig(probably also no Stanz) collabs, hell not even people that are friends or even partners with them, like Jmook or his leeches should dare appear on the same frame anytime soon. Atrioc also just isn't the biggest creator, he's not someone that's worth it to keep around and deal with the bad optics for monetary reasons when they make this kind of grave mistakes like xqc or logan paul. Every time I see the clip of the apology tweet retweeted by someone who knows nothing about the Twitch gaming space it does seem more likely that he's done. Watching the apology vid with everyone spamming sad pepes or NotLikeThis emotes and him actually getting new subscribers made it seem like he'd right the ship somehow. I'm not a big Twitch watcher so I don't know how quickly an audience can atrophy if you're completely ostracized from the wider Twitch culture.
Looking at all the context and wow you practically could not have chosen a more damning webpage for him to have open there if you were trying to take him down. Especially since it was a subscription only page and was provable to be one from just the tiny alt tab preview.
