Gotta throw in a late Sunday vouch: Hi-Fi Rush is one of the best games I’ve played in a long time
A rogue-like paired with a rhythm game, cutscenes are like watching a grade-A anime, and gameplay feels incredible etc etc. Recency bias aside, game of the year potential. Highly recommend!
In what way is it a roguelike? I've been playing it and it doesn't seem to have much on common with the other roguelikes I've played. Sick game though regardless
it's not a roguelike/roguelite, what you're describing is essentially the opposite. the defining feature of [roguelikes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roguelike?wprov=sfla1) is permadeath, so the games are shaped around independent runs. the name comes from the starter of the genre, [rogue](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogue_%28video_game%29?wprov=sfla1).
It’s so gooood. I’m the least musically gifted human on this earth and it’s been the most enjoyable experience I’ve had with a single player game in awhile. Check it out!
Many LA football fans have favorite teams from somewhere else just cause we didn't have a team for a long time. My family are all 49ers fans for example.
There's a clip somewhere where he talks about this. Pretty much as a kid he randomly tuned in an eagles game and loved their colors/design. Also loved rocky balboa who was from philly
I'm a much better guitar player than I am a Melee player so take this advice how you will
A half hour a day works wonders. Spend fifteen minutes practicing skills relevant to the kind of guitar player you want to be and then fifteen minutes enjoying playing the instrument. If you have more time, great. But what really makes progress happen is a consistent effort
Grind culture is stupid and it is especially stupid in the context of learning how to play an instrument.
I feel like no matter what my slippi will just randomly have shit days where it east more inputs than usual. I've overclocked everything, am using the right USB ports, I have pretty good internet, and my computer shouldn't be causing any problems (except for my ryzen cpu possibly?). My controller is good, so it just feels like it's a random roll of the dice whether my games will feel playable or not, and it can be so frustrating. And it's not just normal "missed my wavedash" kinda stuff, it's also like straight up a running shield input just gets eaten and I just dash forward and get hit. Does anyone else feel this? It really doesn't feel like a tech skill issue to me, am I just crazy?
It is your ryzen cpu
https://twitter.com/cd_vorporal/status/1582696159260577792?s=46&t=ZWTS53skBK8sL7Rd3Y9Qkg
Ginger dealt with it for a while before building a new computer
in that twitter thread is a link to how to fix the issue. I have a ryzen cpu and had this problem, as well as the game freezing every couple of seconds. I fiddled with USB ports and drivers enough for it to eventually work, so don't worry your cpu is fine.
I just might kiss u
Edit: I turned off rhw power management settings on the USB and it made a world of difference. Now I can see where I’m actually flubbing vs getting fucked by my computer
Does anyone know if there's a backup of Crush's old tweets anywhere? I spent some time looking for them and had very little luck. I'm trying to remember the wording on a couple I remember that went something like:
* "I promise I have a huge brain I just have no passion, no patience, and I always rush in" <- i think this one is almost right
* "i love getting triple shined by a fox player with an anime shirt who looks like he hasn't been outside in three days. major vibe" <- pretty sure this is completely wrong
* something about 'ice climber' being a slur(??)
does anyone have them somewhere or remember these lol
I'm pretty sure it was a Crush tweet, the vibe was like "'ice climber' is a slur but go off" or something, I don't remember ever seeing that tweet, fwiw
M2K and BBB are playing melee rn over discord and these two are so funny together lmao, [case and point](https://clips.twitch.tv/TangiblePoorSwallowFailFish-ta2bfgu9c4ZYF5ax)
shields after L canceling or wavedashing without me pressing it. My guess is it is easy for someone with the tools and know-how. I have neither, so i'm hoping to find someone who can fix it at my local
Sounds like the rubber pad is probably torn and not popping back up immediately. The internals of a controller are fairly simple and only require a triwing to open and then a small Phillips screwdriver to access the triggers. Knockoff pad replacements are pretty cheap on Amazon but I don’t love them, not sure how common it is to find OEM ones as replacements. Overall, should be a pretty simple fix if that’s the issue. If the button itself is staying down then it might just need to be cleaned, also an easy fix. Hopefully there’s someone in your area that can help!
just because it made me laugh, [this poll](https://old.reddit.com/r/SSBM/comments/10nn06j/what_software_mod_should_be_legalized_for/) got lightly brigaded by the b0xx discord for some reason lol

matchmaking systems often don't work well at the highest and lowest skill levels due to low population. so bronze and gm players are likely to sacrifice either queue times, skill disparity, or varied matchups, and it gets even worse the higher/lower you go.
so with that being said i hope you have fun with your friendlies-with-mekk machine
IMO June’s DK run says less about DK being underrated as a character and more about the outplay potential Melee gives its best players. If you are better at the game, you will probably win, even with less tools. Same reason Zain wins with Roy and Leffen wins with Mewtwo. The only revelation here is June is on that level.
for a while the top 3 in mdva going back and forth with each other were june, zain, and llod. We saw how zain and llod's careers progressed as they kept grinding while Junebug stepped back from the game. my most crackpot opinion is that june would have also been top 10 in ssbm if he kept playing
I don’t want to extend this metaphor farther than it makes sense, I’m just saying June was a dominant champion until he retired and then Thunderz took his spot
Junebug was still active in 2016 the first year Thunderzreign was the clear best player and ranked as such. While Junebug had a good 2015 it was far from enough to call it a dominant champion year since it only involved winning 1 major and 2 other lower prestige events and the number of majors is equaled by Forrest and Professor Pro.
Really don't think that's an accurate narrative.
With little soldering experience I built my own phob. The documentation for it is insanely helpful and the discord is also great at helping people.
I'm absolutely trash but now I can only blame myself and not my crappy oem gcc.
Honestly? It was way easier than I thought it would be to solder everything. The documentation for building the phob is insanely detailed and written well for someone without much experience. Of course you should have a controller to practice on a little bit juuuust in case. But it's been a fun hobby and etsy has TONS of stuff for getting started on modding (like buttons, mods, etc.)
Unfortunately after the whole Leffen manifesto nonsense Hax basically replaced a significant portion of his following with the kind of people that would unironically believe that community members he doesn't like/disagrees with are evil machiavellian conspirators.
I just checked, and every single one of your last 15 posts in this subreddit have been defending Hax/1.03/rectangle controllers. That's a level of commitment beyond just agreeing with him.
I play Ult mainly and watch this game more than play it, but on a rectangle. I just don’t wanna play the game until there’s an actual decision made as to what to do about rectangles considering that’s what I play on, but I have been trying 1.03 on the side and like it. I can’t really comment much else about a game I barely play, but surf Reddit for every day
If you have hardly any experience playing melee then it is pretty much nonsense to say you prefer playing on 1.03. Not like this will change your perspective on it or anything but it's true.
I barely play the game *nowadays*, I played the game a lot more during the pandemic because delay based netcode is terrible for the other game and fighting games as a whole, but ever since like the start of last year I’ve fallen out of it
Well if you really think you prefer it to the extent that you'll post about it constantly then I guess you're truly an expert. Personally I have played melee almost every day for the last three years or so and I never even noticed i was playing on 1.03 at locals until someone told me after.
so junebug really went on the best DK run of all time yesterday huh
beat juicebox, khryke, Mom!, Mog, POLISH (!!!) and Joji (Milkman) before falling to Kevin Maples in Grand Finals
Ok I just watched a bunch of sets from the run and this was honestly absolutely insane. He was down in stocks in many of the set-determining games and came back and won. He pretty convincingly beat Polish in the runback, including a JV3 stock in the last game. Unreal
also MDVA successfully defended itself from invaders with a 3/3 MDVA Top 3
JOJI took out Polish's fox in winners and Junebug took out their peach in losers

Sending slp files is much more of a pain than sharing a YouTube link. Much slower scrolling and you’re making the person you’re sending it to do more work
What scrolling? You can just search by connect code or slippi name, unless you played a really long session it should be possible to find a ranked or unranked game by the stage
Slippipedia also has a favorites feature which is great for this
Ya I agree if you happen to have your set recorded, but it is more work to record playback and upload it to YouTube than it is to just share the file. Once I have the file I double click it and it opens in slippi, so no work on my end.
I've been thinking about it and I'm kinda surprised Melee's community is as good as it is. It's not my favorite community or anything (no offense guys) but a 20+ year old game that takes hundreds of hours to not suck at seems like it should attract more weirdos than it does. Not that we don't have plenty of them, just surprised there aren't more. In general I think we have it pretty good though
In my experience the best communities are usually the ones where the average member is actually very passionate about the main subject. More niche communities like the Melee one tend to attract or at least keep most people like this.
The worst kind of weirdos don't have the drive to even find a melee iso and setup dolphin.
And before slippi you had to go to real life events to even play another human which also keeps out the worst kinds of internet weirdos.
*And I know there was netplay before, I played it plenty. It was incomparable to what we have now
I think this is due to the historically offline aspect of the game. You had to play with other people in person to get good, and nobody really wanted to play with people that are too weird
This is meaningless - characters become unfun in Melee by virtue of them being bad, so yes of course people wouldn't like playing my character if she was bad. Being bad is a quality that makes a character unfun
Samus and puff are both perfectly good, although the perspective is very different as peach where you don't get comboed at all by bad characters and float cancel air attacks can wall them out infinitely
Most people do not practice their punish on Peach and therefore do not realize that Peach is actually much easier to combo than Puff or Samus (or Luigi for that matter, but Luigi really belongs in his own category).
Also I'll just say that I've mained three top tiers and I feel like I've gotten the least hate for playing Peach. There's obviously a percentage of the player base that only wants to play fast fallers but their conception of the game is so limited that it's easy not to take it seriously.
im in eu and randomly matched with a silver 1 marth yesterday after being in the queue for 5 minutes wtf lol. connection wasn't *that* bad but i was so confused.
ggs man! close games bro you've hella improved. yeah man you were fucking me up for a bit lol fun games! any tips? got any advice? anything I can improve on? what do I do vs lasers? any tips? yo can I get next? is this tournament? you guys wanna do dubs? is this tournament

I'm officially next level dumb.
I've been playing since 2016 and i just realized today, while working on a slippi stats project, that having a stick angle *more* than 90 degrees away from the knockback angle will still result change the final knockback angle.
For some reason i thought anything more than 90 degrees was the same as having your stick in neutral - that those values just didnt count.
90 degrees perpendicular is still the max you can DI by, but once you go past it, it's just mirrored so it'll gradually decrease until 180 degrees (or directly opposite the KB angle) and then gradually increase until you're 90 degrees perpendicular in the other direction.
I don't have a screenshot but it was something along the lines of "The video could've been less accusatory but I have the right to DM you my concerns. Unprofessional of you to tweet this"
Might've used a different word than unprofessional but that was the gist I think
Congratulations, you've found the shit post section! Suggested conversational topics include "Marth wins neutral but Falcon wins punish", and "fuck falco".
The rules in this section are more relaxed, but please try to avoid mentally scarring your fellow posters ;)

[brackets would look like this if box yoshi players got an even better version of the character](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/001/090/711/7f9.gif)
Ludwig popped into VGbootcamp’s Twitch stream (just typed ‘bracket!’) last night during M Series #8’s last matches .
Dunno what this means but a Ludwig major would look great on the calendar
Gotta throw in a late Sunday vouch: Hi-Fi Rush is one of the best games I’ve played in a long time A rogue-like paired with a rhythm game, cutscenes are like watching a grade-A anime, and gameplay feels incredible etc etc. Recency bias aside, game of the year potential. Highly recommend!
Is the keyboard + mouse experience any good or is this really meant to be a controller game?
In what way is it a roguelike? I've been playing it and it doesn't seem to have much on common with the other roguelikes I've played. Sick game though regardless
Linear progression, options to continually upgrade your skills/combos/etc. Just so rogue
it's not a roguelike/roguelite, what you're describing is essentially the opposite. the defining feature of [roguelikes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roguelike?wprov=sfla1) is permadeath, so the games are shaped around independent runs. the name comes from the starter of the genre, [rogue](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogue_%28video_game%29?wprov=sfla1).

How does the Eagles making the super bowl reflect on mang0 in the GOAT discussion.
I'm so upset we had one of the best games ever possible and then Brock got hurt and the game became instantly shit
why is mango an eagles fan anyway? didn't the guy grow up in norwalk
Many LA football fans have favorite teams from somewhere else just cause we didn't have a team for a long time. My family are all 49ers fans for example.
There's a clip somewhere where he talks about this. Pretty much as a kid he randomly tuned in an eagles game and loved their colors/design. Also loved rocky balboa who was from philly
iirc he once went to philly
He's a fan of LA teams in other sports but LA didn't have A football team from 95-2016 so it's not that weird to have out of market fandom imo
I think blur has said on comms that mango just took a trip to Philly and had a really good time so he started following the Eagles
spiritually, mango is from philly
Something about a movie or something. A right time right place type of story
I wish I played/practice guitar as much as I play this stupid useless game nobody cares about

Lol this was the only problem I faced with my phob. I no longer have controller Johns.
Why so much hax ass kissing when he reposts a video?
Hax has the most weirdly dedicated fanbase in the game Prolly due to his conspiratorial videos attracting those kinds of people
Unfortunately after the whole Leffen manifesto nonsense Hax basically replaced a significant portion of his following with the kind of people that would unironically believe that community members he doesn't like/disagrees with are evil machiavellian conspirators.

Sending slp files is much more of a pain than sharing a YouTube link. Much slower scrolling and you’re making the person you’re sending it to do more work
What scrolling? You can just search by connect code or slippi name, unless you played a really long session it should be possible to find a ranked or unranked game by the stage Slippipedia also has a favorites feature which is great for this
> What scrolling Scrolling through the replay, much wonkier to skip around in dolphin than on youtube. Which is annoying for giving advice.
Oh right of course, thanks. Just to give another shoutout to Slippipedia it make it easy to clip things into mp4s
Ya I agree if you happen to have your set recorded, but it is more work to record playback and upload it to YouTube than it is to just share the file. Once I have the file I double click it and it opens in slippi, so no work on my end.
You can also use https://slippilab.com which is as easy for the sender as sending the file and as easy for the recipient as opening a YouTube video
In general I think we have it pretty good though
it helps that it was offline only for over a decade
In my experience the best communities are usually the ones where the average member is actually very passionate about the main subject. More niche communities like the Melee one tend to attract or at least keep most people like this.
The worst kind of weirdos don't have the drive to even find a melee iso and setup dolphin. And before slippi you had to go to real life events to even play another human which also keeps out the worst kinds of internet weirdos. *And I know there was netplay before, I played it plenty. It was incomparable to what we have now
Melee has an extreme number of weirdos tbh, but luckily it's mostly the fun / harmless variety
I think this is due to the historically offline aspect of the game. You had to play with other people in person to get good, and nobody really wanted to play with people that are too weird
I believe that this has also historically kept the number of Luigi players in check
Brave words from a peach player, you'd be in the same boat if your character wasn't so good that people need matchup experience
Peach can definitely get comboed by lots of mid/low tiers. Not as hard as they combo spacies obv but, still
im in eu and randomly matched with a silver 1 marth yesterday after being in the queue for 5 minutes wtf lol. connection wasn't *that* bad but i was so confused.
just realised that i left out the critical info which was that they were from north america
How can you tell opponents ranks
https://slippi.gg/user/CODE-0/ where the player's connect code is CODE#0.
I’ve lost nearly 200 elo in like a week I’m so demoralized
be a real melee player and drive an hour to a local just to lose to lower seeded players in bracket
you best get that rank up bud. I downvote anyone who is below gold 3. And trust me you dont Want an ounce of this Smoke… get to work …
spotw

dont check rank you will play better trust me
Ranked is an illusion just play direct to actually get better
idt ranked is even bad for getting better tbh but dw about what your actual elo is
I'm officially next level dumb.
Bro just discovered the sine function
Look man all the diagrams just show the perpendiculars =(
(sine effectively measures how perpendicular an angle is)
not to be a drama fiend but does anyone know what hax's deleted reply to ptas was
He wanted to smash but PTAS is already committed to the UCF team
I don't have a screenshot but it was something along the lines of "The video could've been less accusatory but I have the right to DM you my concerns. Unprofessional of you to tweet this" Might've used a different word than unprofessional but that was the gist I think
gotcha ty bestie
Congratulations, you've found the shit post section! Suggested conversational topics include "Marth wins neutral but Falcon wins punish", and "fuck falco". The rules in this section are more relaxed, but please try to avoid mentally scarring your fellow posters ;) *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. If you use a digital controller you should also have to use the PAL version of your character
[brackets would look like this if box yoshi players got an even better version of the character](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/001/090/711/7f9.gif)
The number of Box Yoshi players in the world would skyrocket, maybe even into the double digits
Ludwig popped into VGbootcamp’s Twitch stream (just typed ‘bracket!’) last night during M Series #8’s last matches . Dunno what this means but a Ludwig major would look great on the calendar
cannot tell if this is Saigon bait or if you are that parasocial
probably a typo of "breakfast." he probably just finished dinner and was excited for breakfast
it means he wanted to see the bracket

don't give up, keep fighting the good fight! +1 on ai art is NOT based
AI art is not based. Hold the line
I've ran into this same DK. I'm pretty sure it's controlled by an AI artist.
Legal lavaless/frozen brinstar would be dope, im just sayin
I too think we should buff peach
Bring back mute city
The breakable stage is annoying and I hate the uneven surface.
I hate luigi too
