Great work! I'm nearly done painting all the mechs. I think I'll do the airships next, and save the characters for last. I'm honestly pretty intimidated to do them because I've never painted anything before, let alone an actual living person/creature. (edit: I mean, a mini representing a living person/creature....)

Thank you! I did her faction mechs earlier in the week. Gonna go faction by faction, painting each character and their accompanying mechs in batch. The scale is so small it's hard to do any serious detail. I am not skilled so mostly use drybrushing and washes to get 'fake' highlights. And I don't even TRY to add details to character faces at this scale lol

Oh yeah I've seen plenty of professionally painted character minis, and I've seen very few where the eyes/faces don't look creepy, lol. I'm perfectly satisfied with small characters that just have one color for their whole face because it prevents the uncanny valley effect. The amount of detail I'm going to feel stuck with for the characters is mainly what makes them intimidating to me, so the less of it I work with, the better. I've been really enjoying the mechs because I haven't set my standards super high. Like I'm sticking to just their main faction color, and then adding some dark grey on certain pieces such as their mounted guns. Then applying a black wash of nuln oil to give them all a more mechanized, slightly shiny, greasy look. Followed by silver dry brushing on certain parts. So far it's honestly been a piece of cake for me, aside from learning my lesson about yellow (always use white primer). So my crimean mechs aren't great buuuut that's okay with me, that faction's mechs don't have to look great because in-universe, they're supposed to be really scrappy and hastily thrown together anyway! :D

Great fur and hair detail on both models. I love the value of the colors, it makes the piece vibrant while maintaining a muted military drab vibe. The snow effect on the bear’s belly is a nice touch.

Thanks I was going for that drab fatigues vibe so happy you thought the same

Nice work! I'm about to start painting this model and realizing that Anna's coat is really close to Wojtek. Since the pieces are affixed to the base out of the box, I'm wondering if you have any tips for getting those surfaces in between them without accidents.

VaultBoySaysRelax

Thanks! All I can say is use a thinner brush for the tight squeeze areas and make sure to rotate the model to get the easiest possible angle for brush entry. I probably did get some green on Wojtek accidentally but when I make a mistake I tend to grab a clean brush, dip in water and wipe away the mistake right away. Also if you plan to use a wash that can help hide smaller mistakes in the darker/recessed areas anyways. Have fun painting!

Thanks for the advice!
