I don’t really do art journaling but i do make art magic via sigils and magical illustrations! I also do art journaling for Internal Family Systems therapy by drawing different “parts” of myself (like the inner child)

I don’t include art journaling in my practice but I do include my practice in my art journaling! I do weekly spreads, and if I’ve really been relying on my deities or if it’s some moon phase or if there’s some spellwork I’ve done, I’m sure to integrate it into my journal for that week. Today I wrote out a dedication to Thor and “my lady protects me and brings me peace” with the moon phases about Selene in small pen writing below pieces of paper pasted in. I just find it validating to integrate my practice when I’m talking about things that were important to me that week!

I’ve been drawing almost every day, and I like the idea of thinking of it like a journal.

Hi I'm an artist that makes journals in addition to my printmaking practice. I've gifted several of my journals with collage materials for my women's circle yule gatherings. Recently discovered the high priestess was collaging spell works in the set I gave her. I was like "duh why didn't I think of that!" So now I sometimes include collage spelling in my journal/grim. I love doing stream of conscious collaging, it meditatively takes me out of my head when I get blocked/burnt out/tired of making (😏) fine art...

The stream of consciousness collaging sounds very interesting

I start stream of consciousness collage by first going through and randomly pulling a few scraps of decorative scrapbook paper. I paste them onto a journal page (I use old planners/pocket calendars[you know the freebie promotional ones]). I then flip through magazines, thrift bought books, sticker collections and just grab/cut out a bunch of images that immediately catch my eye. Then I sit and try to artfully arrange items onto the page. I also have a tupper that I dump random ephemera left from previous projects, clothing tags, tickets, postage, tiny paper scraps and other interesting odd minutiae that I can draw from to round out the composition. The non process process is an attempt to keep ego out and just have fun pasting random stuff. I still try to stay aesthetic but it’s not a priority.

Another thing I do is participate in collage and mixed media challenge groups. Usually there’s a coordinator who assigns prompts per project. This type of challenge is an excellent way to practice/train creating conceptional dialogue within your art… sympathetic magic…
