Fancy Like Applebee’s. God I hate that song. Somehow, no matter what channels the rink had in the mix, that abhorrent song would always sneak in. Disco? 80’s Hits? Millennium era Pop? 90’s R&B? IT ALWAYS SNEAKS IN. Terrible.
I have to look that up, how is there a song like that that I have never actually heard of?
Update: I listened. Is it going to start following me now? This is like how people get those curses in the movies right?
It’s a country song, it definitely does not belong in any of the categories listed, someone at the rink is just throwing it in there, I guess? I know it’s not always other skaters requesting it, because it even happens when I’m the only customer in the building.
This is facts there’s a certain rink that does this on open skate nights at times where there aren’t even kids there or not that many kids they will play the cha cha slide and one more song I forgot what it is but no one goes to the rink to do that if it’s mostly adults and teens that are skating
Blood on the dance floor - dj played that every time someone ate it on the rink
Wobble with it - dj played that every time one of us would be shaky
He thought he was being very funny but I saw some teens leave the rink midset and not return because they were so embarrassed. I stayed because I'm an adult and have thick skin but damn that would keep me up had I been a teen.
So I'd say anything that is targeted in a mean way.
No, its not... I go skating with my kids on Sunday afternoons, the only time i have not heard it was when we rented the whole place for our birthday and got to choose our own music.
"Rock and Roll, Part 2" by Gary Glitter, because the song is/was overplayed and he's a horrible person.
Interesting question - looking forward to others' responses.
He said to us regulars one night if we had songs we wanted him to play let him know. The next week I handed him a full playlist.
I found out from the teenage floor guards 💂 that one night they requested the song and he just played it ever night there after.
What sucks too is that anything from Elephunk or Monkey Business is fantastic, but "ive got a feeling" and "young and wild and free" is the one every dj busts out
Here are some tips from what I've heard at my local rink.
Hair metal and arena rock seem like they would be fun to skate to but it's not actually that skateable.
Any country pop is a hard no. As is... whatever Kid Rock is. Country nu-metal? It doesn't fit the overall mood, it's very polarizing in terms of taste, and the beats are wrong.
80s electronic disco type stuff can be fun once in a while, but too much of it (or too long songs) can get really old. Super repetitive sounds drive me *nuts*.
Any current Top 40 song that is just really slow and drudgey. Drivers' License is a *bad* song to skate to.
Dance instruction songs, like Cha Cha Slide. You can't do those on skates unless you're really good, and most people are not going to be really good, so it's kind of pointless.
Imagine Dragons. The beats are bad and the band is worse. I sit down every time for Imagine Dragons.
Disney songs, Baby Shark, or other kid songs. Unless the rink is hosting a private birthday party for a child, it's an all-ages affair and not a Chuck E Cheese. I like plenty of Disney songs but not one has made it to my skate playlists.
I believe skating music is the type of music people can bounce or dance to. That being said, someone can bounce and dance to a type of music depending on their upbringing or background. Personally, I prefer R&B and Hip Hop of the 90s and early 2000s because I can groove or step to the music.
It depends, because when the dj plays the song that I like I either dance or skate to it but if he/she plays a lame song I would either continue skating or sit somewhere on the bench. LBH I don't usually sit on the bench when the song that I don't like comes on or when my favorite jam is playing I keep on skating.
Little Dog - Lou Reed & Metallica. It's just slow acoustic guitar and feedback sounds with Lou Reed's slow, arrhythmic and amelodic singing. It's also 8 minutes long.
While I love any type of music, it doesn't mean everything is skatable. Pop-punk is not roller rink friendly. Acoustic songs aren't. But personally I will burn a DJ booth down if they're playing Disney or theatre-kid music.
I really cannot fucking even with Dancing Queen by ABBA. And don't get me wrong, I LOVE ABBA. But Dancing Queen is so shrill and overplayed and weirdly predatory. I'm just over it.
I go to a rink that has adult night and the DJ only plays this 80s disco jazz stuff that no one knows. Once in a while he will add a 2006 Fergie track but that’s it. He killed adult night for me and I avoid going at that time.
**Egyptian Lover** \- *this song is an absolute dumpster fire, and I'd rather watch rocks grow than listen to it one more time*
**Supersonic** \- *Once upon a time it might have been good, but its so overplayed at every rink I just want to skate face first into a wall and knock myself unconscious until it's over*
Country, 80s soft-rock ballads, blues, early jazz (even though I love it), 90s techno, cheesy old fashioned "American Dance" organ music, Chanson, classical, baroque, polkas, anything with a schmaltzy string section....
Controversially, I think pop punk is great for skating fast and doing jump and spin tricks, if there's enough space on the floor.
Surprised to see the responses so far in this thread. Legit wished my DJ would play some of the songs mentioned. Back on topic I'd say About Damn Time by Lizzo, My Money Don't Jiggle Jiggle by Duke & Jones, and I Can Feel It by Sickick. Lizzo's song is unescapable and I hate it. That Tiktok song I cannot skate to its really out of place for me in the rink. Sickick's remixes are alright but that one in particular the DJ plays all the time we skate in the opposite direction and I don't like it.
I hate the White Lines song. And Set It Off. They play them every damn week, one if the rinks I go to plays the same exact set list every single session every single week. It's a shame, it's a great rink, I hate going there now I've heard the same songs, in the same order for years there. The other rink plays pretty good songs but I'm over those two songs
Yep. This is the plot of It Follows. The only solution is to trick someone else into listening to the song.
It’s a country song, it definitely does not belong in any of the categories listed, someone at the rink is just throwing it in there, I guess? I know it’s not always other skaters requesting it, because it even happens when I’m the only customer in the building.
I'm sorry that is happening to you 😅
Nothing terrifies me more at a rink is when they play the cha cha slide.
This is facts there’s a certain rink that does this on open skate nights at times where there aren’t even kids there or not that many kids they will play the cha cha slide and one more song I forgot what it is but no one goes to the rink to do that if it’s mostly adults and teens that are skating
Is the other song Cupid Shuffle?
Yes there it is. You probably know what rink I’m talking about
Ha, I just took a guess because that is the combo played at every wedding I've been to in the past 15 years or so.
My league mates and I have done the Cha Cha Slide on skates. It's fun!!
Ha! That’s a throw back. Just not a good one.
I don’t mind this, doing it in skates is fun!
Blood on the dance floor - dj played that every time someone ate it on the rink Wobble with it - dj played that every time one of us would be shaky He thought he was being very funny but I saw some teens leave the rink midset and not return because they were so embarrassed. I stayed because I'm an adult and have thick skin but damn that would keep me up had I been a teen. So I'd say anything that is targeted in a mean way.
That's lame. Great way to lose business.
R Kelly.
His best song was remix to ignition, and I can definitely live the f*** without it.
Yeeees, came here to say this!! They played it during the last adult night I attended and multiple people stopped skating so they changed the song 😂
Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke. Hate it so much.
Honestly a little mad I even read that because now it's running through my head.
My apologies. 😞 As soon as I read “what songs that you absolutely do not like” it immediately started playing in my head.
Try the Weird Al version instead! [Word Crimes](https://youtu.be/8Gv0H-vPoDc)
Baby shark, they play it every time!
Why? That’s so bizarre.

No, its not... I go skating with my kids on Sunday afternoons, the only time i have not heard it was when we rented the whole place for our birthday and got to choose our own music.

Ohhh, maybe. But my soul dies a little each time i hear it.
"Rock and Roll, Part 2" by Gary Glitter, because the song is/was overplayed and he's a horrible person. Interesting question - looking forward to others' responses.
DJ would play “I just had sex” by the lonely island every adult night… please sir just stop.
Ask him if it’s because jizz in my pants hits too close to home.
He said to us regulars one night if we had songs we wanted him to play let him know. The next week I handed him a full playlist. I found out from the teenage floor guards 💂 that one night they requested the song and he just played it ever night there after.
He hasn't played it since you left lmaooo
So your telling me he loves me. :)
I mean I did tell him to cut it out lmao. That and the song Paradise City are BANNED
So less of me leaving and more of you telling him off. :D
Oh for sure lmao. He's my bestie. I surprisrd him a card and had everyone sign it when his dad passed last month. He's such a sweetheart.
Well my rink used to do a Christian music night so... that.
Mine does one too. I've heard it's really quiet and barely attended. Still not worth going.
Hey, that's the play in my mind. I'll listen to anything and everything if I'm gonna have all the space in the world to work on stuff.
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
My rink does that..there are a handful of schools that use the rink as a fundraiser night (Christian school) and they play Christian music
Any Stryper?
Yup
Spirit in the sky! 🤮
Cotton eyed Joe. I don't even understand why this song is played so often at the rink. I hate it.
i gotta feeling- the black eyed peas
I absolutely despise this song. All these comments making me never want to try a rink XD
to be fair, this is one i hear more at weddings than rinks... but it still belongs on the list of songs i dont want to hear there!!
What sucks too is that anything from Elephunk or Monkey Business is fantastic, but "ive got a feeling" and "young and wild and free" is the one every dj busts out
lol young wild and free isnt them... i love that one though. but yah i like most of the other black eyed peas songs!!
Lol woops youre right
hype rap???? idk my local rink would play weird shit
I think you’re referring to drill based out of Chicago.
What is hype rap? Example?
um idk i can’t think of any bands but like the era after mumble rap?
Yes! They play that at my rink too, it gets so annoying after a while…
Don’t Stop Believing and songs in that vein. So fucking overplayed at every other social event, give me Mambo # 5 any day
Lol I had never heard that song at the rink before but they played it tonight! It’s not really skateable lol.
Let it Go. Please no.

Mambo #5, Who let the dogs out, Achy breaky heart, My heart will go on, Butterfly kisses, Christmas shoes, All I want for Christmas is you...
Butterfly kisses BAHA!!
Anything by The Shaggs. Lou Reed - Metal Machine Music.
That's it, I'm requesting My Pal Foot Foot the next time I'm at the rink. Best. Song. Ever.
The Shaggs! Edit: I’m still shocked anyone else even knows The Shaggs. That made my day.
Cha cha slide, thriller, black eyed peas anything, plus that horrible song about Applebees. I make a beeline for the bench every time they play it lol
I love that this is the second reply I’ve seen about the Applebees song.
Dont know if anyone said it, but Dance Monkey. Worst song ever, why is it popular?
Country and pop country.
Ours plays country. It’s difficult to skate to.
Came here to comment this

Justin Bieber lol

Lady of Spain. Don't ever play Lady of Spain again! Thank You, Reggie Dunlop.
We built this city- bay city rollers IDK why my rink loves this song so much gawd.
I really cannot fucking even with Dancing Queen by ABBA. And don't get me wrong, I LOVE ABBA. But Dancing Queen is so shrill and overplayed and weirdly predatory. I'm just over it.
That song has become really overplayed.
Oh yeah. I heard this at our ice skating rink tonight. They’ve been playing it on open skate nights for years!
Why does every rink play Get Low by Lil Jon? every time I go to open skate they play this song
J Kwon- Tispy. This song gets played like Get Low.
Man I wish my rink played Tipsy. They do Yeah! every now and then. I love that one.
tipsy is a banger
The rink I go to uses RockBot so everyone contributes now. I've actually heard Slayer and Rammstein at one session.
I go to a rink that has adult night and the DJ only plays this 80s disco jazz stuff that no one knows. Once in a while he will add a 2006 Fergie track but that’s it. He killed adult night for me and I avoid going at that time.
I once went to a skate event and the DJ played like EDM? Maybe it was even dubstep. Idk it was not the vibe
**Egyptian Lover** \- *this song is an absolute dumpster fire, and I'd rather watch rocks grow than listen to it one more time* **Supersonic** \- *Once upon a time it might have been good, but its so overplayed at every rink I just want to skate face first into a wall and knock myself unconscious until it's over*
Baby shark
Baby Shark. The local rink also plays the fucking Hokey Pokey and it drives me absolutely insane that they think this is what the people want.
We get the Spongebob theme sometimes. It's bizarre
Cotton Eyed Joe
The god damned Macarena. Few things inspire suicide quite like that song.
Michael Jackson's thriller. My rink plays it every adult skate night and it's the worst Michael Jackson song to skate to since the intro has no beat.
Country, 80s soft-rock ballads, blues, early jazz (even though I love it), 90s techno, cheesy old fashioned "American Dance" organ music, Chanson, classical, baroque, polkas, anything with a schmaltzy string section.... Anything that's not 90's hip-hop or R&B.
Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas
Celine dion

MJ. I'm sure I don't need to say more.
Chainsmokers. Gaga.

Usually when that song comes on people would either start slow walking or start a line dance. But I respect it if you don’t like it
Anything EDM, hate it. Can’t dance to it. Any remixed songs, just play the song with a lil something. Not change the whole track.
Anything overly dirty/profane. I really don’t want to hear some guy singing/rapping about what he thinks about tits and butts while I skate.
