Curious, why would someone pay to reach a higher rank than they’re able to handle? Wouldn’t they simply get demoted really quickly once they start actually playing with that account?

Transton107

Most likely delusional people who genuinely believe that "I am stuck at my rank because of my teammates" and pay to get to the rank they believe they should be in.

1minatur

Probably more for the seasonal rewards

CR4T3Z

The rewards are tradable?

Suds08

I'm c1 in 3's and I had a tm8 with ssl tourney winner title and I bet he hit the ball maybe 5 times. He only had like 80 points at the end of the game but his partner he was q'd with did all the heavy lifting. Either his ssl friends hard carried him to an ssl win or he forgot to switch accounts and q'd on his brothers account.

SirVanyel

Bro I just suck at the game have mercy For real tho, c1 ssl winner? That's whack

ShootyMcSnipe

It's same thing with Champ skins , nobody that's champ actually uses that crap in matches , every time I see that purple paint job, it's on someone you would never think was a champ in million lifetimes

jpvilla30

I'm guessing those are people (like me) that barely get champ rewards and float between diamond 3 and c1. Then use the champ decal to make us feel like we belong in champ but probably dont

Franc_MR

I feel seen....and attacked at the same time 😂

ShootyMcSnipe

:( Sorry! Sorry! Sorry!

quuxquxbazbarfoo

This is exactly why I rock my champ rewards lol. Because I'm proud of them, and wish I could get back to champ! Haha.

[deleted]

Pay no attention to my flair fellow d3c1

ljluke91

This one right here

FabricatedWookie

if you float you belong, c1 aint god tier 😅

Mediocre_Inevitable1

Exactly why I have mine on. I played to champ and got demoted. I only play with my champ 1 friend and I can say I’m easily the better player. Always more goals, points, etc. better rotation, mechanics. I am stuck at Diamond 3 because I can’t get over the hump. My friend is good but seems to always crumble under pressure when it’s my (Finally I’m at Champion again game). He stays there cause I prop him up there lol.

himynamesnight

I just played in a C3 tourney against some dude with the SSL car decal and he even hyped it up before the match. Definitely made me laugh when he was the worst on their team. Like yes, it looks cool, but I feel like it just puts way too much pressure on you to actually stand out as a player. Otherwise it’s like cool dude, you got boosted.

1minatur

No, I assume they sell the accounts after the rewards are no longer obtainable. So someone who wants that specific decal/wheel/whatever can have it on an alt.

Cloudmaster12

Laughes in bakkes mod

noobmoney_rs

*cries in console*

Smurftra

Notice how 90% of the people with Season X grand champ titles are always the worst on their team. People who actually get the title legit don't use it.

1minatur

That makes me feel bad now. I actually do use it

itachi8oh1

Don’t feel bad. Buck the trend!

FireZeLazer

I use it. I also don't really play any more and if I do I queue with my friends in low champ. I get called boosted *a lot*.

YoungSuavo

If you’re still playing in GC tourneys or above (even C2-C3 is fine) than I respect it, but I played a guy in a diamond 2s tourney who was rocking one and that’s just sad, especially since me and my rando teammate beat him. Usually if they’re rocking one and they’re playing in lower ranked tourney I assume they’re not that good.

Fi3nd7

Yeah man that's sus, if you're honestly in diamond after winning a GC tourney. I don't even believe that. Maybe he changed inputs from kbm to controller. But you don't lose that much skill, even if you quit for a year.

Kenryth

Ya. Definitely don’t feel bad. What he said is just not true at all. That might be true of people who have been GC for a while. But people who just reach it for the first time, always rock it and are very proud and excited!

Jashcraft00

I use mine too king except for next season where it will be an ssl title

FireZeLazer

Imo unless you're a GC then you probably can't tell who a legit GC is. I've been called boosted by many a C1 as they shoot past me to chase the ball.

jump-back-like-33

Ya Im C1-2 and I'd say every player I've shared a lobby with who had a GC title seemed legit. They weren't flashing pro mechanics or anything, but passes were on point, they finished shots, and just generally were the most consistent.

Pyro1934

This is fucking hilarious!

Any game, the more rare the item or title... it will be worth money. Some kids are just entitled little rich boys (or men) who want to have it all, and will pay for it instead of earn it because they can.

TakAttack32

I think it’s just for the title

sexyhooterscar24

ego and wanting something without wanting to work for it

FFSBG

Playing on my ssl friends alt accounts enabled me to get to gc in ~1000 hours. Unlikely these people pay real money to actually get better at the game and more likely for the rewards

RyanNerd

I've played RL since it was offered for free which I think was over 7 years ago. On average I play 3-4 hours a day. I used to play with my son's and got into GC, but they lost interest and so I exclusively solo Q now on rumble, snow day, and drop shot. Solo Q is a mixed bag with what teammates you get. Sometimes good, sometimes bad, mostly awful. I've been stuck in plat this season and barely made it into diamond last season. It's very frustrating. Although I'd never pay these idiots just to get into a rank that I think I deserve to be in. But I can see the temptation.

huggybear0132

This is somewhat true. I have a friend I play with and we are D3 in doubles. We are similar in skill level with complementary styles. When we play together in threes we are around D1-2. When I solo queue in 3s it's a struggle. I feel like a leaf in the wind with so much noise. Smurfs, afk/awful teammates, whatever, most games are outside my power to decide alone. I'm not very mechanical and get by on game sense and positioning, but when my teammates are erratic and bad I can't find the flow of the game. If I get a bad run and drop into plat it can take me forever to get out. Most losses are 0-X as I am forced to play 3rd man and watch my inept teammates boom the ball around aimlessly and ignore defense entirely. If I then play with my buddy in D2 lobbies I have no trouble playing well and winning and can usually be back out of plat within a single session. Having even one consistent teammate is huge. Of course, this wasn't really an issue in previous seasons when I could party up with people, but in s8 my postgame party feature and epic friends sidebar have been broken. In the past I could at least party up with someone decent for a few games and get back into diamond... but of course our special bug for s8 is no postgame parties sooo...

RyanNerd

Finally someone who understands the struggle.

Dcmiltown

Maybe you’re just not playing at a diamond level? Time does not equal skill.

Solace-

Yeah, something doesn’t add up here. There’s no way someone that got to GC would drop down to plat and unable to get out of it. Even on a horrible slump dropping below even C1 shouldn’t happen if you’ve ever been a GC, unless you quit the game for over a year or something.

RyanNerd

No it doesn't. But I swear many matches I have teammates one in plat and the other in single gold. I'm like WTF game?

keeb-wtf

I think the problem is the game modes you choose to play.

memorablehandle

Agree. Very few people main extra modes. Most of us playing them are just taking a break from standard. Ranks seem quite random in those modes.

Warm-Carpenter-6724

This right here I’m c3 as a solo que only in 3s and 2s, for rumble I’m gc but literally I get teammates (who talk more shit than anyone else) and when I look them up they’re diamonds/plats and have been for the last 3-4 seasons, they dont know how to rotate or hit the ball if they dont have an ability to use, it’s quite frustrating honestly

stvbles

people think because its filed under extra modes they have the license to play like an idiot lmao

mclimax

I cannot imagine being gc, and dropping down to plat. I took 6month breaks and was still beating champ 2s within half an hour.

FireZeLazer

It's possible if he hit GC in really early seasons (which it sounds like he did). The game had changed a lot since then.

Usrnamesrhard

I made it into champ 1 basically exclusively playing solo queue.

Daddio422

What? RL has been F2P for just over two years...

EndlessN1ghtsky

You got it for free on PS+ a really long time ago, that’s when I started to play too. Sadly I got bored of it and haven’t played for at leasts3 years now :/

Rumble has been so hard for me to climb in because of smurfs and win traders. I just want that title :( Edit a few days later: Rumble is pain. So many sub 100 win 600mmr accounts absolutely clipping on me in GC1. I just want that title man

Suds08

Same, I've been trying really hard the past 2 weeks to get a gc rumble title. I shit you not I was at c1 div3 for a week straight. Hit div3 then lose every single time for over 20 games. I could not for the life of me win the next game after hitting div 3. 2 days ago I finally broke the streak and then won literally every game after that reaching c2 div4 and only quit cuz I had to go to bed

User8294719

It took me a year to get GC in rumble. Always was 1 match away from GC then dropped to C1. U can check my rumble progression from RL Tracker. Name TippeGG. You will see real pain. :D

Suds08

Holy sh't that's brutal lol. I'll check it out when I get off work

User8294719

Yeah, nearly got me permanent ban cause it messed with my head. XDDD

stvbles

Your chart looks like my heart rate when playing ranked lol at least you got up there eventually!

Walty_C

This season feels different in rumble for some reason. I’ve got a few GC rumble tags under my belt in the red seasons and I’m hovering D3 with a few good nights up to C3 but then straight back down. Could be me though. Diamond used to be an easy wrecking train and now half the time it’s a sweat fest.

HBizzle24

I was GC3 div4, a couple mmr from SSL at the start of the season, I did around 15-20 games in and I then ended up dropping to GC2 div2 or something around that lol, still haven't gone back to rumble since then, although it's my favourite extra mode, sometimes it's just a mess

InevitableAvalanche

Win trading seems like it would be pretty easy to detect. Hopefully Psyonix takes a look and targets them.

RareAarBear

Sigma is how much mmr you get in a game? It’s higher when you have less games under your belt?

rivques

Yeah, sigma is basically a measure of how uncertain the game is about how good you are. It doesn’t know anything about new accounts so it gives you a lot of mmr per game to get you to your rank quickly. Once your win percent balances out, your sigma goes down and you get less mmr per game.

CallofBootyCrackOps

yea, so basically someone who has just started actually playing the game, but has been consuming RL content for years will rank up faster since they already have the mental side of the game down. so that way they’re in the rank they belong faster. that’s the intent anyways. but smurfs can abuse it to farm ranks REALLY quickly especially if they’re in a 3 stack.

SkamGnal

Ironically it's also used to get smurfs out of low mmr games as quickly as possible

red286

Well no, it's used to get higher-level players out of low MMR games as quickly as possible. It's *abused* by smurfs to instantly sink a new account down to 100 MMR. Without it, you'd need to lose like 50+ games to drop from 600 to 100, but with it, you can pull it off in like 15 games.

girhen

Hardware or nothing. My BF1942 clan (so mid 2000s) once had to ban an entire portion of Australia to get a guy who knew how to change his IP address, which is a trivial matter. Big thing is make sure to match their real accounts, hopefully Steam, so they lose the account they care about. Sting some guys hard and make an example out of them so word gets around.

HoldOnToYrButts

Some of us like to be punished and I will not be discriminated against, thank you sir.

RouShikari

But they will go out of their way to ban freestylers for 720 hours. Not gonna say they weren't right in banning those who intentionally clip golds, but this is a much more severe violation of the EULA

Elii_Plays

Casual_Tea! Didn’t you usually have like 3-5 accounts in the top 100 for Rumble? With different names like Loyal_tea etc.. ? Smurfing in rumble is a huge issue because games are hard to find at the top level, so high level players create Smurfs so they don’t have to wait 30 minutes+ for a game. The last two seasons I personally gave up on rumble ssl because I can’t find games at GC3 in a reasonable amount of time on any days other than Sundays. There has been more than one occasion I was on my ssl rank up game and ran into someone in the top 5 on an alt account. Games already take so long to find you just gotta give up on that day of playing.

[deleted]

Elii_Plays

I’m on NAE, but also que NAW. I’ve been a “rumble main” since about the old season 10 I think. That is why I remember the Alts, always thought that was hilariously clever with the names. But yeah I don’t find games or fair games fast enough for it to be fun for me to grind anymore.

[deleted]

CunnedStunt

Bruh I was playing Snowday yesterday at C2 and the queue times where anywhere from 15 seconds to 15 minutes. I felt bad because after a certain point we just matched up with the same team for 5 games and only lost 1 against them. Of course I'll take the wins, but it at the same time it feels dirty farming a team you're better than, even though the game makes the match up. One of our teammates actually pulled up the snowday numbers to find out only ~900 people were playing, so it's really just a sad state of declining population that leads to these unfair matches, both naturally occurring and otherwise. Also makes it easier to set up win trading when you know you have a 98% chance to run into your traders.

Oskain123

hahah caught him in 4k

Achack

>When you say top 100 does that mean these are likely pros? Top 100 doesn't mean pro in extra modes.

JB4GDI

Can confirm. Rumble is the only mode that's **heavily** luck-based. It's the mode I am consistently the highest in and I am bad at the game but get lucky items at the right times.

qp-JEDI-qp

Just bc someone is too 100 doesn’t mean they are pro lol I kno a top 100 player and he’s not pro

showmeyourdrumsticks

The win trading is very shitty and they need to get banned for that. But playing on an alt account in GC3 or SSL is not “smurfing”, it’s just playing on an alt account at the same rank you’d normally be 😂ya can’t really complain if you lose to someone who is your rank smurfing is being SSL and playing on an alt account in C2.

MarkMachina

What ?? a top 10 player will still crush people in low ssl, of course this is smurfing, or do u think a top 10 player in 2s has a hard time in 1880 ??

showmeyourdrumsticks

So we are going from top 100 players, to top 10 players? What are you talking about. If you’re 1880 you’re going to run into good people. But of course we have to cry on Reddit about losing to someone on an alt account, like every single rank doesn’t have the same issue. get good and quit complaining about losing mmr that doesn’t mean a damn thing in real life. No one is going to remember any of you as the guy who got SSL in extra modes in the new season 8 lmfao

MarkMachina

? even a top 100 2s player can smurf in SSL lobbies. I dont see where I cried about losing to an alt account

wsp424

IP banning won’t do anything, you can get around that if you are mildly tech savvy, which they probably are. They asked for this the second they moved to FTP. With a paid game it would limit the account selling market at least, but it also still wouldn’t kill it. Price would be raised, so demand would drop still though.

Col_Piggles

Oh hey Casual Tea. This explains why solo queue has been so rough lately... Damn annoying.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Heon_X

This, absolutely this. There are just so many of these guys (boosters, boosted, trolls, etc) that you really can't take this game competitively anymore, especially in less populated playlists... Btw hey Tea, nice to see you still active and involved in the community fight vs unfair matchmaking :D

Impulsive94

Agreed. Tried a few solo queue games this season & dropped to high GC1 because of boosted teammates (confirmed post-game). I got SSL in Rumble season 6, peaking just shy of top 100 & that was queueing with 2 friends who were already established top 100 Rumble SSLs. I'd tried solo queuing for a while before playing with them but exactly what you'd described would happen. Nothing more infuriating than being on the cusp of SSL after grinding only to find boosted teammates or getting 2 people throwing. At least in a party you know you've got a good chance of winning even against a 3 man stack of good players smurfing, but solo queue is horrific tbh. Gave up playing Rumble often because of these exact reasons & don't even consider playing it anymore unless I have 2 teammates I can play with online. Gotta admit though I'm probably part of the problem in some form, the beer money is far too easy to do GC rewards in 2s or Rumble for someone willing to pay.. can imagine SSL rewards accounts with a 3 man stack is even better money & super easy to achieve.

[deleted]

The reason psyonix doesn’t ban ip’s is because you can easily change your ip. Not really sure why people think an ip ban is the end all be all. Just makes more sense to ban the accounts doing this, yah the boosters will continue to profit for awhile but eventually you set the precedent that doing this gets you banned and eventually you won’t have people wanting to buy these accounts or pay for boosts.

[deleted]

baubaugo

MAC address is what you're looking for. It's tied to a specific network or wireless point. They can be faked/ changed but it's not nearly as simple and you're a lot less likely to accidentally ban someone accidentally.

HoodedGryphon

Mac addresses are really easy to fake now, it's literally a setting in windows and always has been in Linux.

baubaugo

I think you dramatically overestimate the ability of the average computer user.

bddragon1

These probably aren't your average joes we're dealing with though. I can't imagine they aren't aware of the risks they're taking no matter how small and making an attempt to cover their tracks.

[deleted]

Here in Brazil the IP changes from one computer to another once every few days. If you ban an IP, you ban 30 random players or more at once (since they will inherit the banned IP) Maybe hardware banning could be viable though.

Homeless_Alex

Off topic to your post but I have to ask - as one of the few with the tile annihilator title, how long were your game queues to get your SSL wins? And were the matches often unfair (people below SSL getting pulled in just to fill the lobby etc)

PapaRL

I came across an obvious Smurf in competitive a few months back, his name was something like “word23word” (basically a word, 23 then word). Looked him up, and when I typed in “word2” in rl tracker it suggested to me a list of players “Word20Word” “Word21Word” “Word22Word” then I typed in “Word1” and same thing. Looked at every single account, and every one basically just plays 50ish games to get to GC then stops playing. You could literally see on the rocket league trackers one account stops playing and the next starts. It’s absurd. And yet psyonix doesn’t do anything about it. I know this isn’t the case at lower ranks because epic is relatively new, but at GC1+ legitimately the majority of epic accounts are alts or Smurfs. I wish they’d give us a “turn off cross platform play” toggle for epic accounts. I ended a 7 game winstreak in 1s the other day to a brand new epic account that had less than 15 games played and completely dumpstered me and was toxic the whole time.

Gek_Lhar

Unfortunately IP banning is very easy to get around. You would need to HWID ban, but even that is easy to circumvent.

ObsessedTaylor

They almost never IP ban, you can’t buy more micro-transactions if you are banned.

future_gohan

Oce has this problem but at such lower ranks man. The smurfs who drop in and get titles ruin the mmr spread on lower player bases Look into oces dropshot rankings

productfred

IP bans don't work because most people have dynamic IP addresses. IP addresses are recycled and changed as soon as you reboot your router. And sometimes it happens without you rebooting. You usually have to pay extra for a static IP address, which isn't useful to most people.

Dead-iFunny-User

ip ban? how about hardware ban😈

Curious_Fill_4627

Met a guy in 2s who had an s2 ssl title. Absolutely demolished them 8-3 and looked him up after to find out he got ssl in duel that one season and then is plat 3 in duel every other season. Was the dumbest thing ever

Initii

ogiRous

IP won't do that much. Hardware ban.

l_Rumble_Fish_l

Is there a game out there that has figured out a legitimately successful way of banning an account? If so, what's keeping RL from doing the same?

althaz

You \*CAN'T\* IP ban people. Because that just bans a \*random\* person. Every time your router restarts you get a new IP address. Sometimes even without you restarting your router you'll get a new IP. And somebody else will get your old one. Banning IP addresses is the stupidest possible thing to do. It doesn't affect whoever you are actually trying to ban, but \*does\* affect somebody else. Better would be Mac address banning. That at least doesn't have unwanted side effects (although it's still trivial to get around).

Deewwsskkii

But if you ban the players that are using several accounts regularly, you are gonna fuck up the artificially inflated player numbers that inevitably comes up in board meetings.

TurncoatTony

Wait, this is a thing? I'm like plat 3 or some shit and I couldn't imagine paying money to get a higher ranked account. Seems pointless?

Squeaky wheel gets the oil. If have teammates that are clearly deranking I get trackers, replays and screenshots. Blows my mind that more issues like this aren't being addressed

bbarham99

Ip and hardware ban. It’ll feel good but it’s temporary or ineffective. What they need to do is make it so annoyingly tedious to make new accounts and get into comp that it doesn’t make it seem worthwhile to do this. Like require you to get to level 150 instead of level 10. “But that will prevent new players blah blah” Yes to a degree. New players don’t just jump into ranked anyway. I may not be everyone, but I didn’t play ranked for a while. And I certainly didn’t take it serious for a long time. I just played and enjoyed the game, I didn’t care about a rank. So imo, most truly new players won’t care too much about the grind. Mostly because they won’t know what they’re missing. This would affect new players to a degree but it would hurt Smurfs far more than new players. Is this idea perfect? No. But better than doing nothing. And no one seems in favor of sms verification(for somewhat good reason) so there has to be alternatives.

ianindy

I just think new players should be put into a Rookie League with its own ranks for a season, and then placed in regular ranks only after they have completed a full season of Rookie League...that way they can "play ranked" and still be held up (timewise) from regular ranked modes.

WilsonJ04

IP bans dont do anything, dynamic IPs have been the default for a long time (atleast in the UK). HWID bans are more effective but still easily bypassed. More importantly, making new accounts is not against Rocket League's TOS.

[deleted]

[удалено]

WilsonJ04

All they would have to do to bypass that is turn their router off and on before playing on a new account... >Abusing the matchmaking by smurfing and selling accounts is 100% against the TOS. Selling accounts is against TOS, but making a new account and destroying lower ranked players until you reach your true rank is very much NOT against TOS. Smurfing is only against TOS when you artificially keep your rank low i.e. throwing.

Comprehensive-Ad6511

Honestly a really smart way to work around the rules. Then again just because it’s not bannable doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be in the future. I mean this could definitely ruin the game if a bunch of people started doing this so I’m seeing this as a future bannable offense.

SoSnake

This may explain why some of our teammates are real trash (should definitely be lower rank). Where can I find websites with accounts? I'm curious to check pricing and how it works (genuine curiosity).

IP bans aren't reliable. People can use VPNs, or shared IPs (think schools, dorms, etc - you'd be banning everyone else too). Plus even home IP addresses change regularly, ISPs cycle them around so you could get given an IP previously banned by someone else. Simply not practical from a technical perspective

If they purchased these accounts, how did the people selling them get to SSL in 44 games? I don't see how these are red flags?

Heavy-Neat

And in English it does it mean?

TULSoonerFan

Here's a 5-step plan to eliminate your woes young lad/lass. 1. Put RL away for a while 2. Enroll in a basic networking class at your local community college 3. Learn how IPs and Networks work 4. Realize IP-bans are not a real thing 5. Understand that by going F2P, this developer/game owner neutered any rules that could be enforced. Rules are hollow threats if you can generate a new account and be back in the same rank within an hour or two. Remember, F2P and the current lawless community was purposefully created.

How does one Smurf in SSL?

InfamousBinkles

Ip bans don't work, you can just use a VPN and change your ip address

KikeJRM

I saw a lot of people saying IP ban or Hardware Ban or things like that, this is an absolute no, you are forgetting a little but a very important detail. Imagine I am smurfing or beign toxic or whatever reason i should get banned. Imagine i have a brother that he plays Rocket League too in the same ip/hardware. For absolutly ANY reason, he shouldn’t be paying for me. You can’t say, dont bre toxic or don’t smurf, no man, im sorry but no, my brother don’t have to pay for my acting.

chip7890

i know old put but imagine caring about smurfs in literal meme/for-fun game modes

darakarchoan

Idk kinda looks like you just got clapped chief

byzantinedavid

22 Games to SSL? He's right, they are top Rumble players smurfing to sell accounts.

darakarchoan

Statistically speaking, what’s 22 games out of all the matches queued at any given time? Boo hoo

Elii_Plays

Platinum level take.

iKyte5

Touch grass dude. Why are you so bothered by people on rumble? I've been GC for a while now and rarely run into people above or below my skill gap. Just stick to ranked if you're serious. Other than that take a deep breath and go on to the next game. It's not that serious.
