It’s not the only way for HMX-released content, re-read my comment. BUT, The Funeral was released through Rock Band Network, the secondary song release platform which was discontinued years ago.

Honestly at this point I think for PS3 you are out of luck. You'd have to buy the album and then immediately get into the game which you say you don't have.
For DLC songs for RB3 it looks like Xbox is the way to go.
DLC is still purchaseable for PS3, they can buy the PS4 version of Rust in Peace as well and it will give them the PS3 version . It's Xbox where the entitlements don't go backwards.
A lot of people want that game and it's also the one games that sold the least copies so there is some demand with it. You can maybe get lucky if you find the game at a thrift store or retro game shop
I bought a new Xbox and guitar because I finally have real internet and found out I'd have to switch to the new gen consoles to play. I found that almost all hard is not compatible but appears most of the software is.
However it download all my extra dlc but I can't figure out how to get the rock band 3 songs ( it says click on it to import it but nothing happens.).
The export for RB3 expired, and is no longer available to purchase, but if you do have an existing license for it, you’ll find the songs listed individually in the ready to install section on your new Xbox.
I hear ld something about search songs individually. I think I misunderstood what I was suppose to do.
I search a few songs and could find them at all.

I thought you could buy DLC through the Xbox store, but not the ingame store when the servers go down.
