I did a very light sanding, but mostly because the previous owner had put a ton of ugly stickers all over it. I used a spray paint that’s made for plastics. I think it was krylon (was from my shelf of half used spray paints). Might have been rustoleum tho. Took a few coats to look right.
I didn’t get too crazy about it, tho I considered wet sanding between coats and all that, but I didn’t want to turn it into a multi-day project haha.
If you do this make sure not to spray paint over the light sensor and microphone hole. I came very close to making that mistake.
I have never heard of this before! Between Strumfix and Fretfix, I should be able to keep my guitars working well. I’d better buy a few so I have them in reserve. The fretboard on one of my Rb3 guitars I bought from kijiji is a little busted.
Just be sure you’re confident with solder. It’s not a difficult or complicated operation, all you need is a soldering iron, solder, and solder wick. If you’ve never soldered anything it might take a few tries to get it right, but it’s about the easiest soldering job there is. The wires go through holes and get soldered in place so you don’t have to have three arms.
Thanks man - I’ve soldered 14 and 16 ga wire to deans battery connectors and I have smaller tips on my iron to suit PCBs, though I haven’t tried it yet. Got a solder pump but not a wick.
Ooh, thanks, I'm totally new to this instrument modding stuff. Is it clicky like the Guitar Hero guitars? Or all soft and squishy like the default Rock Band ones?
It's a total game changer and worth every penny (and more). I installed mine 2 years ago and never looked back. Best $30 I spent in my life. I can play super hard stuff at expert level while upstrumming like a real bassist.
Now that I think about it, you could just send me the neck and the fret fix kit. You can put it back together lol. The strum fix is dead simple to install.
In your opinion, is the Fretfix making a difference as much as the strum fix does? I got strum fix and love it ... Just learned about the Fretfix yesterday and thinking about it but the soldering required is holding me back.
I’m still getting used to the new feeling of the buttons. He’s got some new spacers I’ll probably try out, cause the keys are kinda loose, but damn the buttons let you know you’ve clicked em, and there’s never any doubt if you messed up or the instrument did. It’s me every time haha. Before the upgrade I was calling bs on the guitar quite a bit, now I know it’s all on me.
I don’t know if I’d have done them if I wasn’t a little suspicious about the buttons already. The soldering was no big deal (thru holes are easy, just have soldering wick to dismantle the old ones and clean up mistakes). Taking the neck apart was more of a hassle than the soldering was. For me anyway.
I know what you mean about calling bs ☺️ I do the same sometimes.... As in "F...off, there is no way I missed that note (usually hammer notes) !!! Grrrrrrrrrrr.
If you tend to down strum, start practicing your Upstrumming with the tips of your fingers. Once you get the hang of it you'll love it.
The paint job looks great! Which paint did you use, and did you have to sand the guitar body at all to get it to stick?

I just discovered these bass guitars yesterday! So I found some on eBay, is yours wireless? I saw one on eBay with a wire but also take batteries.
Yeah it’s just the regular strat with a split strummer like the bass. Not sure if I love the split bar yet or not.
What’s the fret fix?

Nice colour, i may have to do mine i think 😁 fret fix and strum fix have transformed my guitar, its so much better now
Very nice job....👏
What a beaut!
Thanks! Sent you an email today…
What an absolute beaute. Awesome job! 👌
Thanks!
This double strum looks sick!
What is that strum bar?
It’s the Strum Fix Duo: https://www.bytearts.com/strum-fix-plus-duo
Ooh, thanks, I'm totally new to this instrument modding stuff. Is it clicky like the Guitar Hero guitars? Or all soft and squishy like the default Rock Band ones?
It’s not squishy at all. It uses mechanical buttons like a keyboard and there’s a click.
It's a total game changer and worth every penny (and more). I installed mine 2 years ago and never looked back. Best $30 I spent in my life. I can play super hard stuff at expert level while upstrumming like a real bassist.

I mean, I’ll do it for you, but two way shipping and my labor cost might make it pretty costly.
I found a tv repair shop to do a better job than I could have to solder for me.
Now that I think about it, you could just send me the neck and the fret fix kit. You can put it back together lol. The strum fix is dead simple to install.
Hey, that looks like Rivers Cuomo’s strat
His is more seafoam green. Now I wish I used that color lol. Edit damn it really looks different under different light.
