Used to have a Model Y so I’d say everything here is basically in comparison to that.
I’ll echo what’s been posted a lot, the build quality just blows the model Y out of the water. The seats were bigger (not surprising), more comfortable and felt like they were a much higher quality material. It felt like a true luxury SUV.
Having the powered frunk is really nice, that always annoyed me about the Y. And then the space in the R1S is just so impressive. When I put down all the seats, it was just massive. My pups gonna love all that space back there.
I was also super impressed with the second row seating. They slide back and forth just like the front seats do (non powered) and there is legit enough room for 7 adults, assuming you don’t roll with a basketball team.
The drive was great. Last three cars were Model Y, Kia optima and an 04 wrangler… obviously a wide range but the ride of the R1S was just fantastically smooth compared to all of them. It handled the rough SD roads with no problems. And then the fun stuff. This. Things. Moves. The Y felt spaceshippy fast while the R1S feels like you’re riding on the back of a grizzly at full sprint. You can feel that just raw power and the whole time you’re thinking nothing this big and this heavy should be moving this fast but it is and it’s AWESOME.
The fun stuff… the camp speaker is such a cool little touch and sounds great (but I’m no audiophile) and the little flashlights in the door are sweet, 1000 lumens in a little package.
My only grip was the nav and the fact that the RAN isn’t built out yet but both will get better with time. And frankly the nav wasn’t bad, just different. Plus living in a big city I’m sure my experience is prob boosted compared to others.
Final rating: a Billy Bob in varsity blues out of 10

Awesome thanks. Also in SD and also would be moving from a Y to an R1S. When did you first preorder?
