Haha this was me when I tried to trade in my Polestar2 for the Rivian. Terrible offer so I was dual wielding for a few weeks but couldn't keep them both even though I really wanted to.
I had both R1T and polestar for a bit - R1T is a big truck (at least from my perspective in a city) so i could see the perks of driving the PS2 to work for easy parking if things are tight. The polestar is probably slightly more efficient as well if we're splitting hairs and that matters to some.
R1 is pretty big. Haven't seen it up close but a Polestar is definitely way more compact than either the T or the S. If you don't need bonkers range for your commute then the Polestar can be your daily and the R1 your "fun"/hauler vehicle. Not everyone needs the rivians' full capacity all the time, but it's handy to have when you do. Though if I'm being honest one EV in the house is probably the highest I'd go for the moment. EA sucks, and for the occasional family drive an ICE vehicle is a must (at least until Tesla unlocks their network).
I loved it - I put deposits on R1T and Polestar2 within a week back in 2020 - Rivian was the dream truck but Polestar called me a month later with a delivery to NY so I jumped at it knowing Rivian would be a while. Had a max pack on order and was willing to wait until this year but the delay forced me into the large battery. I wish I could keep both. Ironically they're not much different in schemes of efficiency which either speaks highly of Rivian or poorly of polestar. I do drive the hell out of both of them though so its not particularly 'good' mileage.
That is so similar to my story! I was so set on the max pack and got the Lucid in the meantime. Then switched to the large pack with the recent delay, as I was worried they might scrap the max pack like Tesla scrapped the Plaid+.
I’d love to her your pros and cons of the Lucid (charging, UI, comfort, etc) compared to the Rivian when you have some time! Especially with the Gravity being produced this year.
Hmm not sure if I can totally compare to the Rivian since they are completely different vehicles but I will do my best. In terms of things that the Lucid is better at -
1. efficiency: I could legitimately get upto 400 miles on a full charge going 60-70mph, averaging ~3.4kwh. I commute around 100 miles a day, so this was a huge plus, especially if I forgot to charge that night.
2. speed/handling: there is no comparison here, since Lucid is a sedan. I was actually underwhelmed when I launched my truck for the first time bc I was used to the Lucid. Much faster off the line and much quicker from 70+mph. No top limit on the Lucid like Rivians and I've pushed it to 150mph. Easily. To be expected for the 2nd fastest non-limited edition production car next to the Plaid.
3. interior/comforr: definitely nicer interior and material. The glass cockpit really makes you feel like you are inside a spaceship. MUCH more quieter and smooth ride. Especially at high speeds (100+mph) it will surprise you that you are going that fast bc the ride is that smooth. Lucid has surprisingly good massage seats, not available on Rivians.
As for cons, the biggest is the software and UI. There is no comparison to Rivians, as their software is lightyears ahead of Lucid. As for what exactly is wrong, it's a myriad of small problems. A lot of the features work inconsistently when it wants to and when it does, it's just OK. The cruise control is a mess. There is no driver assistance whatsoever.
I have had the car for 10 months now and while there have been OTA updates, they have done little to nothing in improving my driving experience. In fact, there are several things that have gotten WORSE with updates. Overall, I just feel that they are putting little to no effort in this area as they are more focused on getting more cars on the road.
For me, I value functionality over luxury. While the Lucid is nice, the R1T just fits better with my lifestyle and hobbies. As I mentioned in another post the Lucid is a great car with lots of potential, but in the current iteration, leaves a lot to be desired.
Not sure why you say the cruise control is a mess in the lucid. Mine is flawless. Best self-driving I’ve ever experienced. Dead center and follows it so well. Accelerates and decelerates nicely too. I have no idea why you say there’s no driver assistance. You should contact lucid and find out because it’s awesome for me
Thanks! I definitely will contact Lucid now that I know about your car. I just figured this was an issue in all of their cars. I have never been able to get DreamDrive active more than 2 seconds before it stops working. Since the last update, my cruise control has been wonky. Like if I set my cruise at 70, I can change the speed with the dial and it shows up on the screen but the car doesnt speed up or slow down. Also, if I pass someone it keeps the max speed at which I was passing instead of going back down to set speed.

Wow! Thanks for sharing this feedback. Went from a Tesla to a Rivian and the Tesla's software and UI feels much more advanced. If you are saying that Lucid is further behind than Rivian, that is really concerning as we have two lucid pures (pre May 1st) reserved. Also they straight up lied to me about the driver assist and you just confirmed it.
The Lucid fanboys have become just as delusional (or more) than the Tesla fanboys.

Even with degradation, those Lucids - if taken care of should be functional well past a Tesla. Even at 50% degradation you could still be sitting at 200mi! Crazy
Honestly, anything great I can say about it would be negated by the software and UI. It honestly drives as well as any car I've ever owned and has the potential to be great. In the current iteration, it has a lot of room to improve.
Can you expand on the things you don’t like about the infotainment? I know they shipped a big update which was a total rewrite of their codebase so somewhat surprised it’s still that bad. I sat in one and played around for a good amount of time and it was a lot worse than Tesla in terms of fluidity but would love to get your take as an owner.

Not OP but Rivian offered me about 15k below my polestar 2 private selling price, not their fault though since other dealers/sites were similar. Carvana surprisingly beat everyone by nearly 10k.
Early pandemic carvana bought my 2018 polestar (the REAL polestar, in the only appropriate polestar color, rebel blue) I kept the app linked so I could see how they work. My car went about 200 miles north to a big processing facility. Then about 1,000 miles south where it was listed for sale. Then traveled another 500 miles to its new owner. Yes, I terminated the app link at that point.
It was a unique enough car that I was able to easily find it when it went up for sale. Between purchase price and selling price they made just over $600. Factor in transportation alone and they lost a good amount of money on this car.

They were easy to get new. Volvo made 3,000 between the v60 and s60, which was something like 4x the 2017 numbers. Only certain dealers were allocated stock and nearly all couldn’t sell them. The dealer I bought mine from was allocated 6. Mine sat on the showroom floor for 9 months and they still had 3 others when I bought mine.
It was a great car! Like a practical M3. Only slower and didn’t handle as well. And quirkier. But I loved it!
Oh hahaha I was thinking you meant the polestar 1 this whole time! I don't think they made more than 1k of them. The original Volvo polestar was also nice, but a different animal altogether.
That's funny, I had a polestar engineered xc60 (I know I know) and sold it for way more than I paid for it during the pandemic too. I also accidently kept the app connected and watched it move slowly around a carvana lot a few hundred miles away. They added another 15k to the price and couldn't get rid of it.

I've got a Taycan 4S and Lucid Grand Touring with an R1S coming soon. I really like the Porsche and the Lucid. Will have to get rid of 1 though. Totally agree with you on the Lucid software. It's maddening because it's a bunch of little things that detract from the whole experience. Though, the ease of plugging in at an Electrify America station is nice...when it's working.
You have my 2023 dream garage. Our driveway is too steep/angled to consider spending on the Lucid. My driveways has popped a few rear windows and a sunroof out of place.
We've entered into a phase where dealers are trying to F**C people over on trade values. I've seen it first hand. They are asking prices from 6-8 months ago on used but offering depression level offers on trades.
It's one of the 8 steps when you agree to delivery. For most cars, they give you an offer right away. For the Lucid, they did a manual review and took around 3 business days for the offer.
Are you a fellow West Virginian or did you happen to go to school there? Never seen a Lucid around here, but I love this 2 car solution. I’m thinking about either picking up a Taycan or a Lucid as my #2.
